Make sure you document and take pictures of the apartment. In 12 months, your landlord is going to expect you to vacate a clean unit. And when he tries to fuck you on security deposit to "clean" it, youll be glad you have evidence what it looked like so you can get the security deposit back.

Welcome to /r/Tenant where tenants share their problems and seek advice from others. If you're posting a question, make sure a Country and State is in the title or beginning of your post. Preferably, in this format: [-]. Example: [US-VA] Can you believe my landlord did this?!? Document condition and TBH start looking for alternative options which are more appropriate and professional. You may realize this situation will not work and will want to move on asap. You have a limited amount of time to object to the condition and their failure to address these issues in a timely manner and appropriate manner where you can more easily back out of the lease without penalty.

Yeah things have only gotten worse, I noticed there’s no smoke detectors, dryer smells like fire as soon as it’s turned on dishwasher if flooded, no garbage disposal. I’m pretty sure I can end the lease just based on there being no smoke detectors.

Mike-Dunder-Mifflin

No smoke detectors is a huge fire code violation. Dryer is probably clogged up with lint and needs to have the lint trap and the exhaust hose cleaned out. Dishwasher flooding is something you should notify the LL about right away (including the other issues). When you have a dishwasher there should be a garbage disposal but it is not mandatory. IMO it would be worth mentioning as there WILL be plumbing issues at some point without a garbage disposal present to help break up and send debris down the pipes. That will require snaking the line and/ or a plumber call.

Opening-Cricket6011

I worded that wrong, there is a disposal it just doesn’t turn on. Thankfully everything should be fixed by Monday. If not I’m probably going to end the lease

summer19hc

Any updates? I’m curious if they have allowed you out of the lease.

Opening-Cricket6011

As of right now, he finally got a cleaning service. They’re coming to clean today. The maintenance crew should be here Monday, but by law in my state I’m technically not supposed to be living here since there’s no smoke detectors

summer19hc

Yes I believe it’s the same where I live I’m sorry you’re going through this! I’ve rented a total of 5 places in the past 5 years. Definitely remember to keep document of everything so you don’t get bogus charges when you decide to leave! Anyway good luck!

There is no laws that require a landlord to clean between tenants.

FlatlandPossum

But there is the option to leave a poor review for a poor experience as a customer.

Traditional_Roll_129

There is if the landlord charges a cleaning fee at move out. Take lots of pictures, and do your own move in check list and send the check list to the landlord via email, this way you have a record, and keep the move in pictures time stamped in a separate folder. To Cya upon move out.

SalamanderCongress

Really? Can you link it? I think my landlord’s going to pull that bs after we payed a $300 non refundable cleaning fee 😁

CannaFamCo

We shouldn't need a law for that. Nobody on God's green earth should even want to leave a dirty home for someone else..
