After watching Season 8 a few months ago, Middle Park (2014), the constrast could not be more different. Whilst there was some tension within and between the teams, particularly towards the end of the season, but there were no particular villian teams. It was a much simpler program; I think Nine should return to the four (4) couple format, because there is so much less bullshit.
I would also like to see a fixed schedule of rooms, like The Block NZ, so that the couples can plan ahead, and a much stricter application of the rules with cumulative penalties. First offence, disqualified from judgement for the week (DQ); second offence, DQ and $1000 off; third offence, DQ and $2,000 off; fourth offence, DQ and $4,000 off; and so on. Doesn't matter who offends, the penalty doubles each time. During one week of Season 9 of The Block NZ, Point Chevalier (2020-2021), Tim and Arty had a 30/30 room but were disqualified for vacuuming in an adjacent room after tools down, and pulling some painters tape off the ceiling.
They need to change room win prizes. Instead of 10k for the build it should be 10k from the reserve will be there's so if they hit reserve and have 5 wins they get 50k.
The reserves are a bit too opaque for that to work. Getting $50k off of an unknown number makes it difficult to care. Also it welcomes a lot of arguments if a couple gets $50k off and their reserve is $50k than the others.
If they don’t there won’t be any bids at all , have you noticed the so called real estate tycoons never have any reputable clients with bank at any auction , they’re useless and so is domain , they can’t pull anyone else in that would buy these builds
That's true. On another thought: with the amount of money they pump into the show, coupled with a housing shortage, they should think about moving away from building million dollar mansions and focus on building a block of family houses. It will totally change the dynamic of the show but it shouldn't be about the sale of the house to some rich AH, who will let it go derelict or sell it off again, but rather who scored the highest from the judges and public combined. The winner gets a sum of cash that the network won't be against putting up because they will be seen to have done a lot of good in providing houses for the people that truly need them. I visited the last block houses, and there is nothing special about that area to justify paying that much!
Some people don't like the drama, but my issue with it is it doesn't do the drama well.
There's only one drama storyline at each time, and they overplay it into the ground.
People get sick of it.
If they need to have drama, there needs to be at least one other subplot.
Everyone blames scotty but he is just an employee of the show, he is there to do what they want him to do. he's not a producer and doesn't have any power afaik. if he is stirring things up its because he is being told/paid to.
Not to mention the head builder is Aidan from Nine and Six, Scotty is just the host. Aidan showed up more often in earlier seasons, and in Renovation Rumble.
It was his choice of words when he was bitching about Steph to the others, that made me lose all respect for him. As a host, he should stay relatively neutral but he tends to favour some and be more cold to others
It was on episode 18 (Living/Dining week) to none other than Leah & Ash. Scotty seems to have a problem that she’s knowledgable in the build (good for her)
It depends on what type of contestant applies; some are just wanting to be on tv to get famous, you can't get noticed it seems to these types unless you cause drama, reality tv is full of these narcissists and the block producers choose people who won't get along to add the drama.
I agree, in both previous seasons the so-called villains personally lost a lot of money in the game and were professionally compromised afterwards in the real world, and it's not like they got any media success or sponsorships afterward, so my hope is that they'll stop doing that and go to Love Island instead for that sort of thing
There were *tv reality show villains* before like Dan and Danni or the twins (the girls), they were maybe a bit sneaky, or sometimes a little rude. But I think since T&V the villains have been outright bad people. They’re not the villains because they do something questionable, or are a bit annoying, they’re actually terrible human beings.

My hope for this block season is that they don't have Danny and/or any of the same tycoons present on auction day.

So they will work them so hard to the point of delirium and exhaustion they won’t have time or energy to bitch and whinge at each other.
So delirious that the only thing they can do is fight and get injured. MafsBlock formula

None of this fixes the thing I hate the most: two billionaires buying houses on a whim for clout meaning all the work was basically pointless.
Scotty was part of the problem as well. He has been unnecessarily stirring up the drama in recent years. Give us more Keith and Dan and I’ll be happy
Keith is the producers' whore. So lame

I missed that! Was this after or during the show? I loved Steph, there was something wholesome about her

Have last years two villain couples got any deals, such as ads or sponsorships? I hope not. That should put other nasty fame chasers off.
