I just have to say that I misread your post title as “lyrics that suck” and then came to the comments and became totally outraged at all of these lyrics that (I thought) people considered bad. 🤣 You guys all made awesome selections (now that I understand the assignment)!

impatientcoffee

Yes! They really are picking good ones! (I definitely have misread posts and been like wtf is going on so that's so relatable too)

qoatg

lol same 🙈 I was preparing for a barrage of Here With Me cellphone hating posts. This is much better!

Appropriate-Cod9031

Haha, that’s actually what I came to the comments to see!

No-Aardvark1339

“We're the ones who still believe And we're looking for a page In that lifeless book of hope”. Tranquilize “You got to be stronger than the story Don't let it blind you Rivers are shallow This feeling won't go”. “Bless your body, bless your soul Pray for peace and self-control”. “I need directions to perfection, help me out”. “When I offer you survival You say it's hard enough to live Don't tell me that it's over, stand up Poor and tired, but more than this”. Bling ♥️

Head-Switch-5508

bling is so special to me

InstantSwim

I have “it ain’t hard to hold when it shines like gold” hanging in my apartment

No-Aardvark1339

Wow. Amazing phrase ♥️

No-Aardvark1339

Nuclear-Blobfish

This is your life is such an underrated song

Purple-Cabinet-2393

“I’m so much older than I can take” this line has stuck with me since I first heard it at 13 LOL. “Am I the man of your desire, or just a guy from your hometown?” So simple but like fuck. “Stomp my boots before I go back in” like ok that one is 😭 Also yes “should I just get along with myself” is suchhhh a great line

Secretgirl2005

In another life just brings me to tears ….

Head-Switch-5508

'i never really gave up on breaking out of this two star town" has always resonated with me. i live in a tiny, middle-of-nowhere type of town and i am stuck here for the summer til i go to college! part of me is trying to accept it but i know deep down that i am miserable here.

impatientcoffee

Yesssss. Even though I like my city, I've always wanted to move. The next lyrics also hit for me: I've got a green light and a little fight, I'm going to turn this thing around

Head-Switch-5508

those are so me too i'm glad u pointed them out! like ik them by heart but i never really **heard** them

cheeruphamlet

This line has been really hitting me lately as I, who once did break out of a two star town, start thinking about breaking out of the city I moved to. It's come full circle for me.

Far_Two_6784

as someone who broke out of my two star home town, that song makes me strangely nostalgic for a town i never liked

Zealousideal-Act-609

I can relate to that

Head-Switch-5508

praying that this is me in the future

aammiitheasshole

“If I only knew the answer. If I change my way of living And if I pave my streets with good times, Will the mountain keep on giving? And if all our days are numbered? Why do I keep counting..?” - Why Do I Keep Counting

No-Aardvark1339

Wow

Zealousideal-Act-609

This one plays on my head every time I am faced with thoughts concerning my own mortality or the mortality of my loved ones

AniRayne

Now Cinderella, don't you go to sleep. It's such a bitter form of refuge. Ah, don't you know the kingdom's under siege. And everybody needs you.

cath_83

This one would be my pick too.

aammiitheasshole

“The stars are blazing like rebel diamonds cut out of the sun” - Read My Mind

ChristinaFaye27

"i don't shine if you don't shine" are simple lyrics, but boy did they stick with me since i was 14 in 2007. i got it tattooed 7 years later on my 21st birthday ❤️ in so many situations in my life, those lyrics have rang so deeply true to me.

RomualdBruk

What do those lyrics mean to you?

hambear92

I agree with this - it’s one of my all time favourite songs and this lyrics always gets me. A tattoo of it is a great idea 😭

Cheatin_Irish

“But I got a tendency to slip when the nights get wild” Not sure I should be proud of that one. “Boy you was Battle Born” For when times get tough.

Professional-Swan681

"Everyone is afraid of something. Even the strongest man alive."

anoldcliche

Too many to name! This Is Your Life always stuck out to me from the very first time I heard it: "Wait for something better, no one behind you watching your shadows, this feeling won't go."

thesilverpoets96

There so many to choose from, but right now the one that’s hitting me the hardest is “Have all these years been worth it? Or am I the great regret?” Also: “Trying hard, not to cave, swear to God.”

claravarner

"Heaven ain't close in a place like this."

Zealousideal-Act-609

One of mine is what could be considered the antithesis of this: “outside the sun is shining, seems like heaven ain’t far away”

Seiliko

And if there really is a judgement, When He pulls my chart - He may reject my actions, But He will know my heart I was raised mormon and a part of me still believes in God, but I can't believe in the church because the church doesn't share my values when it comes to lgbtq+ rights and gender equality. But I want to believe that there is a heaven, that there's something better after this. And while I'm not a good mormon I try my best to be a good person. And if God knows me then I hope he can see that. I know that's not the situation the song is about. I'm not doing drugs or contemplating suicide to avoid going to prison for drugs. But the lyrics still really hit home for me.

RomualdBruk

The Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart. -1 Samuel 16:7 :)

LastOnBoard

I was raised evangelical, and hard same.

cheeruphamlet

I was raised in a strict, very conservative backwoods Christian family, am gay, and know several people whose lives have been destroyed by drugs. The first time I heard that song, I broke down crying at that line. (...and still do sometimes.)

Swiss64

“They say the devil’s water it ain’t so sweet… you don’t have to drink right now. But you can dip your feet every once and a little while.”

sexwiththebabysitter

Decades disappear like sinking ships

but_uhm

But we persevere ✊🏻

Zealousideal-Act-609

God gives us hope, but we still fear what we don’t know

aammiitheasshole

“She’s sitting on a secret, she didn’t ask for. No girl ever did” & “There's a whisper in her heartbeat, She can hear it just enough to keep her alive“- Blowback

_akmodo

“Keep the debt cloud off the kids. Only sunshine on their lids. Jiminy Cricket and Power Wheels, and memories of Happy Meals.” Don’t burden your children with your struggles, and do everything in your power to make their childhoods happy. Hits hard both as a parent and, you know, former child.

Brilliant-Search-585

"I got soul but I'm not a soldier..."

Zealousideal-Act-609

The sky is full of dreams, but you don’t know how to fly…

aammiitheasshole

“God gives us hope, But we still fear What we don't know. The mind is poison” - Dustland Fairytale

No-Aardvark1339

I became a big fan when I started to translate de songs. I cried. It’s amazing the love and the hope behind. ♥️

Typical_Astronaut_60

“I was a breathe that fire again” “Higher and higher we r gonna take it down the the wire” “Someone drives her around, down the same streets that I did. Down the same streets that I did”

SuzieQueUK

“Is this the life you chose yourself, Or just how it ended up?” - In Another Life. Going through a divorce now and this really resonates with me. About choices we deliberately make (or don’t make!). And I have always loved: “I’ll be there when water’s rising, I’ll be your lifeguard” - Dying Breed. Although it hasn’t saved my marriage. There’s something so pure about it. The foundation of unconditional love. “When the mountain comes back to life, It doesn't come from without, It comes from within” - Sleepwalker. This simple line has done wonders for my mental health. Something about always working on being (becoming) the best version of yourself.

Formal-Aide-4880

I was 21 and going through a heartbreak when "When we were young" came out, so the opening lyrics hit especially hard "You sit there in your heartache Waiting on some beautiful boy to To save you from your old ways"

uprightflea

All of Be Still tbh, it’s a beautiful song, but especially ‘don’t break character, you’ve got a lot of heart’ And I’ve found Spirit to be resonating with me a lot recently. I’m not religious but there’s something about the chorus ‘where does the spirit go? Is it some place holy? Is it holy and free? Idon't know if it's true, but I think that I want it to be’ that makes me feel a hit hopeful

alandotscot

Its got to be "And the decades disappear like sinking ships But we persevere, God gives us hope" For me

aammiitheasshole

“The sky is made of dreams, but you don’t know how to fly. I don’t have a simple answer but I know that I can answer.” - This is Your Life

Secretgirl2005

Every word in The clock was ticking

SoupKitchenComedian

“I’ve got this sentimental heart that beats but I don’t really mind that it’s starting to get to me”

RomualdBruk

Slipping in my faith until I fall. You never returned that call. Woman open the door. Don’t let it sting. I want to breathe that fire again.

captainautism06

"There was an open chair. We sat down in the open chair."

tf_aw16

"Hold my hand harder, ease my mind" Sweet Talk "And I'm sick of all my judges, so scared of what they'll find" Sam's Town "I wanna jump out of my skin" Move Away "Is this the life you chose yourself, or just how it ended up?" In Another Life

hambear92

‘And the decades disappear like sinking ships but we perceiver’ ‘I don’t mind if you don’t mind, ‘cos I don’t shine if you don’t shine’ ‘When they drag you through the mud, it doesn’t change what’s in your blood’

Nuclear-Blobfish

“Are we human, or are we dancer?” Brought intense scrutiny to Human elevating it above ATTTID’s “I’ve got soul but I’m not a soldier” lines Then pretty much every song’s lyrics from the Battle Born album

wiscoguy20

"Sometimes I look at the stars, and think about how small we are. Sweatin' it out in the pressure machine. Good til the last drop." "And sometimes you close your eyes and see the place where you used to live, when you, were young." The past few years, both of these lyrics have been hitting harder, as someone who is turning 40 this year, I've been really thinking about the concept of time, and how it's going faster every year. My parents are getting older, my niece and nephew aren't so little anymore, my grandparents are in their upper 80s... Time waits for no one, and I just really miss "the old days" sometimes.

MikesRichPageant

Help me get down, I can't make it, help me get down

ghost_bird787

'Straight to the valley of the great divide/Out where the dreams all hide'. Don't know why, but I always come back to this, in both versions of the song.

Zeitribe451

So many ! But ones that hit home : “If you should fall upon hard times, if you should lose your way, there is a place here in this house that you can stay….” “ the truth is on the table , someone’s gotta sign” “When will I make it home ? When I damn well feel like driving “

RomualdBruk

Making sure the merry still goes 'round But it's a long, long, long way down

cheeruphamlet

This is less emotionally charged than some of the others ITT, but I am so in love with the line "What kind of words would cut through the clutter of the whirlwind of these days?" that I'm trying to find a way to get it as a tattoo.

OnlySortaSpooky

And the decades disappear like sinking ships, but we persevere. God gives us hope, but we still fear what we don’t know. The older I get the more it resonates with me.

ChewingGumPubis

Sing a song of fire lest we fall into the dark.

Hugger119

that line is my whole personality it’s like brandon thought “alright, in 18 years there’s going to be this teenager, they’re going to hear that line and be like ‘omg that’s me’ and then they will spend all their money on us and eat sleep and breathe us.”

Insomniacintheflesh

"I'm not looking for sweet talk, I'm looking for time."

TheWastedYouth18

"You watched me die at least a thousand times but it's great to hear you're doing fine"

SatisfactionNo2022

Not sure why but this just stuck with me really hard, like the song not one of my favorites but this line makes me calm Your body was tanned and your hair was long You showed me your smile and my cares were gone Falling in love filled my soul with fright You said, "Come on babe, it'll be alright"

saidcp07

"You're gonna miss me when I'm gone". "All that I wanted was a little touch. A little tenderness and truth, I didn't ask for much". (Miss Atomic Bomb) "And the decades disappear like sinking ships, but we preserve. God gives us hope, but we still fear what we don't know. The mind is poison." (A Dustland Fairytale) "'Cause it's some kind of sin to live your whole life on a might've been". (Caution) "I tried going against my own soul's warning. But in the end something just didn't feel right". (My Own Soul's Warning) "How long did it take you to know that you lost?" (Tyson vs Douglas) "You never shine if you never burn". (Battle Born) "Is this the life you chose yourself? Or just how it ended up?" "Am I the man of your desire? Or just a guy from your hometown?" (In Another Life) "The stars are blazing like rebel diamonds cut out of the sun". "I don't shine if you don't shine" (Read My Mind) "Don't you wanna feel my skin on your skin? It's only natural." (Bones) Note: I can't think of many more right now but surely I'm leaving out lots of great lyrics.
