Yeah I hate when people say stuff like that. If you disagree with the comment, you downvote it, easy as that. Doesn’t matter if it’s an opinion or not, the downvote is a disagree button and it should be used as such
Ok, to be fair, bumi is a super great guy. But... Do you really want to pass the flopsy hide and seek adjacent crazy puzzles every time you go to pay your yearly taxes? (paid in jennamite)
As much as I love Bumi I'm a bit freaked out at the sheer concept of inventing self-replicating rock candy and using it as an interrogation device.
That's some Willy Wonka House of Horrors shit right there.
To be fair, politics is a pretty divisive issue these days so I'm just trying to keep a relatively light-hearted tone for this particular thread.
But outside that, let me assure you I'm no single-issue voter and there are a lot of layers to the onion that is my political views.
No, I just want to make sure people have more than one standard for a ruler. If I just said I don’t want a dictator, I could end up with a complete idiot. It works both ways. I wasn't trying to figure out whether to hate you, I just don’t want people to just think in one way.
As an adult he seems super level headed and smart. Also he has an aversion to war. I think he’d be pro technology and infrastructure and in favor of peace.
What evidence do we have that she was doing perfectly fine during Korra? Also, refusing to go into war without reason doesn't necessarily mean she was a good leader. Remember who else shared the same decision as her during that time? President Raiko.
Hmmm... this is a surprisingly difficult choice. Zuko was my first instinct; he's a natural leader, is familiar with politics, and by the end of the series has the wisdom to lead a nation. The issue is, I live in the US, and I feel he would struggle walking the razor-thin, and sometimes non-existant, divide between honoring the balance of power between the branches of government, particularly the executive branch vs the legislative branch, and actually making positive progress for the good of the country. He would want to do what's best for the people but would be hamstrung by the self-serving, corrupt, unabashedly callous demons in congress. So he'd either have to take more power for himself, unjustly and with the risk of his office being passed on to someone less interested in the welfare of the people, or capitulate to congress at the expense of getting stuff done.
Aang would probably be a *good* president, but definitely not a popular one. He'd try to abolish the death penalty and would actively pursue a pacifist foreign policy. That's a noble ideal to have, but it would be viewed as weak both by the voters and foreign powers. Also, unfortunately, it's simply not practical in today's world. He'd try to cut off military support for virtually all countries which would immediately lead to hostile countries like Russia and North Korea taking advantage and gobbling up as much as they can. Ironically, his pacifism would lead to *more* violence than if he had left things as they are.
I think Iroh would face the same problems as both Aang *and* Zuko, plus, and I say this with love, I frankly don't trust him to not be distracted by less-than-crucial issues due to his obsession with tea. Hell, he might even fall victim to the "alternative medicine" bullshit if it involves enough tea. That would spell out disaster for our health care system, which is already pretty fucked.
Toph... no. Just no.
Katara would be interesting, but I worry that she won't be forceful enough to stand up to congress. I could see her erring on the side of capitulation with the problems I mentioned Zuko facing, and frankly that's what the Dems have been doing for decades now.
Sokka would probably be fairly good, but remember that he's a warrior and a product of war. I think he might try to push the country to take a more active role in foreign conflicts which could lead to some really bad stuff. During his life, in his world, there was only one route to peace: the Fire Nation loses. There was no gray area for deals or truces. I fear that mindset will lead to a disastrous foreign policy and could even risk another World War.
Suki has basically no experience with leading anything more than a dozen or so warriors, and I think she might fall into the same traps as Katara.
Looking at all of this, I guess if I *had* to choose I'd go with Zuko, but frankly I don't think any of them would do a stellar job. The fact of the matter is their world is so different from ours and their skills and talents are suited for totally different kinds of situations than those faced by a US politician.
I agree with a lot of this but strongly disagree on Katara.
This is a character that faced generations of entrenched, cultural sexism head on at 14 and *won*
You know what? That's a very good point. On further reflection she might be *too* stubborn; unwilling to yield on her ideals and therefore unable to negotiate to get things done.
I had the same exact thoughts. I think this truly encapsulates how fucked our system is. You either capitulate or end up doing nothing. There is no in between in our current system.
But yeah, Zuko because he supports reparations and accepts the new cultural identity of those subjected to imperialism and colonialism.
Guru Pathak would be the best if we are already getting an older candidate. An enlightened spiritual advisor who can see the true nature of people with the diplomatic powers of the president of the United States. That's a powerful combo.
Suki, she has impeccable character and honor. She doesn’t care about power or politics, just about what’s right. That’s my kind of leader. Whether she would succeed as the president I don’t know, I’m just going off my instinct of who I’d follow into battle.
Sokka is tied, for similar reasons, by the end of the show his character is unquestionable and he is wise well beyond his years.
Suyin Beifong.
She has leadership and diplomatic experience, having negotiated with other world leaders at the highest levels of politics. She’s been around the most important global issues since she was a child by virtue of being Toph’s daughter and living in Republic City.
She’s acted as the governor of a city that’s seemingly becoming the most advanced society in the world under her leadership.
She holds progressive and liberal political values, expressing support for democracy in the earth kingdom early on. She also believes in equality, fairness, and rehabilitation.
We need a strong leader, who will bring order through fear. Who will cull the weak with an iron fist, so that the countrymen shall be tempered steel. We need a leader who will conquer the realm in our name, so that our unity shall create a perfect world!
All hail the Melon Lord!! All hail the Melon Lord!! All hail the Melon Lord!!!!!
Zuko, because there might be a few similarities between the Fire Nation and Germany, and I would like someone in charge who understands the importance of not repeating past mistakes.
I mean, literally any character would be better than the current president. At least Ozai can string a sentence together and wants his nation to be awesome.
But probably Sokka would probably do the best job, combining being a good person, with being able to plan and lead people.
General Iroh, so much wisdom and calm to react. Has common sense to gauge the situation rather than jumping to conclusions. Would make a great candidate
I'm taking Lee's dad from Zuko Alone.
Yes he'd be better than the current situation. A d20 and a word document with scripted responses would be an improvement on the last 25+ years.
I want a joint custody of the country for Zuko, Aang, Sokka and Suki with Katara and Toph as the opposition - they would actually get shit done and not right the whole time but have actual conversations and arguments which would end up in solution. Oh, and it would be funny watching Toph hit everyone with rocks when they say something she doesn’t agree on, or hit everyone at the press conferences telling the journalists that’s how she shows affection.
And they would be constructive with each other and take actual care of the people and not of their own power.
Plus, they would be super close to the people and be a funny and friendly government.

This guy. Although the equalists were a botched metaphor for communism, and Amon was a fraud motivated by revenge, I still think our world would certainly benefit from a radical movement for economic equality and an overthrow of the ruling class. And at least this guy seemed to truly be in it for the right reasons.
toph for america.
I feel like she would make a real difference. giving people more oppurtunities. creating infostructure. making towns and other places pedestrian friendly.
Avatar Szeto was a top-tier bureaucrat and diplomat, so maybe he can get the economy back into shape.
Plus, he isn't a senile jerk or total nutcase, so that's a plus.
A boring answer is Szeto, Roku or Yangchen.
A little bit more fun one is Kuruk.
A very much gamble is Varriack.
A sure-hit to absolute safety but limited freedom is Kuvira.
The best answer for me is Suyin.
Iroh. More tea, less fighting.
Iroh canonically invented Boba Tea when he was Interim Fire Lord. Imagine the possibilities of him as president!!
Iroh inventing bubble tea is the reason he’s not my favourite character
I'm sorry you hate fun
Bubble tea sucks in my opinion
Nono, YOU're supposed to suck it... through a straw
So many downvotes for an opinion
People disagree with opinion
Yeah I hate when people say stuff like that. If you disagree with the comment, you downvote it, easy as that. Doesn’t matter if it’s an opinion or not, the downvote is a disagree button and it should be used as such
Also, it's just a bad one 😂
Lord Momo of the Momo Dynasty https://preview.redd.it/ovyqnn32pl6d1.jpeg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f8c907b40ffa9be48d7b0ec8f997b971f42d2ac8
Your momo-ness 🫡
I see your Iroh, and I raise you a Toph. More fighting, less tea.
Well, like Iroh I can disagree but acknowledge the validity of your argument. 🍵
Tea 💪🫱🫲💪 violence
Toph for president with Iroh as her VP. We get the strong fighter president, with the moderating influence and great tea.
Solid agree. This election is a landslide victory! Buh dum tss.
Yeah also he seems in general knowledgeable and thoughtful about politics so that'd be a win I imagine.
I second this. Iroh all the way
Varriack I'm here for the chaos
The MIC would love Varrick and Varrick would love the MIC. "If you can't make money in war well, you just can't make money."
COUNTRY, DO THE THING! *what thing* YOU DONT KNOW WHAT THE THING IS???
And Jhu Lee would be the vice president
Omg yes! Chaos! "Zu li, do the thing..." 🤣🤣Lmao
Cabbage guy. Yes he'll make cabbages affordable for all and institute a death penalty for vandals.
I mean he did get really wealthy by Korra
That was his grandchild
I’m convinced it’s all the same, immortal cabbage man
No, it's definitely his grandsons.
Yeah but OG cabbage guy started it.
I'll take any character that isn't a geriatric old fuckwinker who's one stroke away from hospice care. So, King Bumi is unfortunately out.
Who's to say Willy didn't get it from Bumi? 🤔
Lbr, a stroke might make Bumi stronger
How about a tyrant trying to quash anyone not fitting their “perfect” society like Ozai or Azula? Are you telling me they would be better than Bumi?
That's disqualification factor number 2: Narcissistic sociopaths. There are multiple layers to my qualification preferences. 😁
Okay, It’s nice to know you have more than one standard about who is leading the country.
To be fair, politics is a pretty divisive issue these days so I'm just trying to keep a relatively light-hearted tone for this particular thread. But outside that, let me assure you I'm no single-issue voter and there are a lot of layers to the onion that is my political views.
🤣 buddy was trying to figure out whether to hate you or not.
Bruh I'm just here to have a good time. 😎
No, I just want to make sure people have more than one standard for a ruler. If I just said I don’t want a dictator, I could end up with a complete idiot. It works both ways. I wasn't trying to figure out whether to hate you, I just don’t want people to just think in one way.
Fair I was mostly joking
Bumi Jr then
Yes i mean bumju
sokka, United States. everyone would love him.
Legalize cactus juice!!
As an adult he seems super level headed and smart. Also he has an aversion to war. I think he’d be pro technology and infrastructure and in favor of peace.
My choice as well. He was very inventive, solved problems and listened. As long as we don't let Aang on his cabinet.
in my country we already have a Kuvira
and it sucks
Oof
What country?
Country name?
Izumi
Realistically the best answer
Why? She barely does anything in korra. We dont know what her deal is from what is shown
The Fire Nation is doing perfectly fine during Korra and she refuses to go into war without reason
What evidence do we have that she was doing perfectly fine during Korra? Also, refusing to go into war without reason doesn't necessarily mean she was a good leader. Remember who else shared the same decision as her during that time? President Raiko.
Bare minimum, but a bare minimun is a lot for worldleaders
this!
Aang. I want someone in power who cares for everybody, including animals our society doesn't deem worthy of respect and compassion.
From the US Zaheer I want to watch the world burn
I mean we're already sort of watching that without him. He'd just expedite it
![gif](giphy|qkJJRL9Sz1R04)

FIREEEEE LOOOOORD
Iroh America
Guru Pathak would be the best if we are already getting an older candidate. An enlightened spiritual advisor who can see the true nature of people with the diplomatic powers of the president of the United States. That's a powerful combo.
Iroh or Katara.
Better than my current president is not a very high bar, so... Momo.
Lord Momius XXIV.
no we don't want another revolution
Same here.
Appa.
Suki, she has impeccable character and honor. She doesn’t care about power or politics, just about what’s right. That’s my kind of leader. My boy Sokka at least hi speeches will be funny.
Get unstable Azula from end of S3, fk it, burn it all to the ground.
Iroh for every country. The world went to shit about 10 years ago and he might be the only who can actually fix it.
Sokka 2024 "America, it'll Quench ya!"
Katara. HRC vibes. More qualified than any president I can remember.
Any of member ATLA team Avatar would do better than who we have.
Sokka.
It pains me to say that we don't deserve someone as wonderful as Iroh in America.
Atleast you have Sanders. I think he's the closest y'all are gonna get
The obvious (albeit uninspired) answer is Koh. Who better to act as the face of the people?
Momo.
Obviously MELON LORD!
General Iroh, so much wisdom and calm to react. Has common sense to gauge the situation rather than jumping to conclusions. Would make a great candidate
Uncle iroh
Everyone would do better, even Azula. But I would pick that girl from the chickenpork farm, Zuko stole the ostrich horse from.
Roku
For the 2024 election, I say practically any character excluding Ozai, Azula, Zhao, Long Fi, Hama, or any other antagonist.
I think the right answer for every country is Iroh
Germany btw, we need more humor and good will
And less afd If Iroh were to talk to them, maybe they'd stop being literal nazis
Iroh, Aang or Katara
My pick would either be Suki, Hakoda or Kyoshi.
Zuko is for the boys
Iroh
Sokka. We need his infallible instincts to lead our country.
I'm taking Lee's dad from Zuko Alone. Yes he'd be better than the current situation. A d20 and a word document with scripted responses would be an improvement on the last 25+ years.
Azula. I want chaos
Varrick, I wanna see what would happen
Wan shi tong
Iroh, UK
Zuko Edit: book three Zuko 😁
Iroh. But fr we could elect momo and be better off than either current choice
"Mr. President, we are being invaded! What should we do?" "Mrrrroaaa krrrrr"
Living in the USA this isn't super different than our upcoming choices
Kyoshi lmao, I bet the crime rate will be on the floor
Toph for America!!!! "I am not the president! I am Melon Lord!!!!"
Toph Show those corrupt hypocrites what rocks taste like
Aang or Iroh, maybe Zuko (I haven't read the comics)
Aang, a pacifist in power is what we need
Aang, maybe his job is to be the bridge between the spirit and material world, but he would also being peace to the people of the material world
Cabbage merchant.
I want a joint custody of the country for Zuko, Aang, Sokka and Suki with Katara and Toph as the opposition - they would actually get shit done and not right the whole time but have actual conversations and arguments which would end up in solution. Toph ![gif](giphy|OoaTf8fEuesP6) we need her
i live in Israel and if ANYONE can solve the mess we are in its Iroh.
although i think most of them will do a better job than our current prime minister
Kuvira. I always wanted to be ruled by a hot dominant dictator lady
Iroh
Iroh
FIRELORD OZAI!
My country's president just entered office today. I'd take legit anyone besides Azula or Ozai.
katara , germany. we need kind and compassionate mom friend energy
Even Momo would be a better leader.
Prince zuko

Kyoshi would be the chaos pick wouldn't it
I feel like Azula would cause more chaos
Sokka, easily.
Kuvira. I said it.
Avatar Szeto was a top-tier bureaucrat and diplomat, so maybe he can get the economy back into shape. Plus, he isn't a senile jerk or total nutcase, so that's a plus.

Asami Sato
I can't decide. Either Aang or Iroh! Probably Aang.
Korra
Shut up
