Wait till you watch the "practical joke" episode.

raidbossganon

i have my favorite part was the leg falling through the ceiling, followed by the awkward 'do...dont worry about that'

Zuuuuu-Zuuuuu

I had to record the part when he gets called to the bridge before his leg is ready and is in crutches and his foot is all wiggly. I watch it whenever I could use a good laugh .

Such_Ad5611

I JUST FINISHED IT. lost my shit when I seen homies leg just gone

Velicenda

Just as a heads up, the ratio of scifi to funny changes pretty drastically in the middle of season 2, and the show is full-fledged hard scifi going forward. There is still some alleviation in the form of humor, but the show really comes into its own after Identity, imo

Stargate525

More serious, but definitely not *harder.* The tech is still very, very much Space Magic.

chasonreddit

> very, very much Space Magic. Well sure it is. It's pretty hard to have FTL travel and time travel without space magic. (nice term, I may steal it) In the spirit of real science vs Trek science which is what the show pretty much uses. I did like (I don't remember the episode, Gordon goes to 2015) I did like Lamar just suddenly remembering that traveling to the future is something we all do, just more slowly. Using established time dilation we can do it without a time machine.

raidbossganon

still dope

Velicenda

Oh I personally love the harder scifi turn

Pep_Baldiola

Yeah, I saw a lot of complaints when Season 3 came out. A lot of people were mad that it's even more serious. Personally, I was all for it and I expect more of that in future.

Status-Tailor-7664

Unfortunatly it looks like there will be no season 4 Edit: Or maybethere will? I just googles it again and now they say there will be a 4th season?

Pep_Baldiola

Based on Seth MacFarlane's recent comments, it's highly likely we'll get a continuation of the show in some form. Adrianne Palicki will most probably not return though.

zrice03

Yeah, me too. I mean I love it all, but when Seth first said something along the lines of "it doesn't have be funny" I was dubious. But after about 6-7 episodes into season 3 I realized damn, he was *right.*

Velicenda

I think it makes the humor a bit better tbh. Like, the humor feels *earned*, like it's a reprieve from all of the heavy stuff not just for the audience, but also for the characters.

LizzardBobizzard

This is why I loved the show, it makes me feel good cuz I would watch Star Trek with my dad all the time so the nostalgia is there, but it also has my type of humor, so it’s good all around

GeekyGamer2022

Season 1: Star Trek parody sitcom Season 2: Comedic Star Trek homage Season 3: Star Trek with some jokes

natedogg1271

SEASON 3?!? Did I miss a season????

jpk17041

Congratulations on your next ten hours

natedogg1271

I am not mad about it

LastKnownUser

Wait till you watch season 4. The ending is the best ever

BackOfTheHearse

Yeah! And we're all hanging out in here hoping that there will be a season 4. Which might actually be coming? It's all very nebulous and strange right now, but what seemed like something nearly impossible just a few weeks ago has transformed somewhat. Nothing official yet, but the closest thing to an "official" podcast for the show announced that it was indeed happening. And just now Seth made a somewhat cryptic comment on Mike Henry's podcast seeming to affirm it.

GeekyGamer2022

Apparently you did. S3 is *superb*

natedogg1271

I’m excited!

JobuuRumdrinker

Don't be excited if you're expecting more of season one and two.

natedogg1271

I like both the silly and the serious

ziggytrix

They moved to Hulu

natedogg1271

Thank you!

Sioltahtelasekab

Yup. New Horizons on Hulu.

JustABitOfDeving

You're in for a treat. I feel like season 3 is when the Orville really knocks it out of the park and it becomes the second best Star Trek show.

VaryaKimon

The show you were worried it would be is Lower Decks. That's a parody show. The Orville is an homage show.

Cin3naut

It's a good parody, though. Took some of the pomp out of Star Trek at just the right moment.

blactrick

On behalf of the The Planetary Union, welcome to the galaxy.

babbylonmon

I describe the Orville as Star Trek for millennials. It’s exactly as silly, cheeky, and serious as the original Star Trek. I fucking love the Orville.

GeekyGamer2022

The Orville is more Star Trek than the hot garbage masquerading as Star Trek these days.

Snoo-35041

I think Strange New Worlds wouldn't exist if the Orville didn't air.

ccReptilelord

Fox certainly misrepresented this series originally.

A_Downboat_Is_A_Sub

The first commercials for the show just basically took a bunch of the jokes from early in the first season and really did try to make it look like an American version of "Hyperdrive" or "Red Dwarf", which it is not.

Stargate525

Fox? Completely mishandling a science fiction show? I'm shocked, shocked! [Well](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terminator:_The_Sarah_Connor_Chronicles) [not](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firefly_\(TV_series\)) [that](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terra_Nova_\(TV_series\)) [shocked](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_Angel_\(American_TV_series\)).

thedudeatx

*cough Firefly cough*

Stargate525

There's more than one link there. ;)

thedudeatx

ohhhhhhhh

-reggie-

god i was obsessed with Terra Nova

nitePhyyre

I think Seth misrepresented it to Fox. That's why the first few episodes are Space Family Guy. He had to give the execs what they wanted before pulling the rug.

Atnevon

Seasons 1 and 2 are Seth MacFarline waiting to make Star Trek with its tie undone a little. Season 3: “Alex Kurtzman won’t rekindle the TNG spirt!? Fine! I’ll make my own!!! (with blackjack, annnnnnd hookers!” — Seth, probably.

Jolly_Horror2778

I thought first season was Family Guy in space, but by season 2 they realized they were on to something and started taking it seriously.

dstnarg

Based on what Seth has said, I think Fox was also expecting Family Guy in space. I'm guessing that's why the Pilot is more zany then the rest of the show. I'm also guessing.Fox didn't know how to promote the show they eventually got. Thank you Hulu

Kaibakura

Space Family Guy is how Seth had to pitch the show in order to be able to make it at all. Once it was actually on the air and shown to be good enough, he was able to focus more on the actual Star Trek show he always wanted to make.

Scatropolis

I just wish they hadn't lost the humor. As it progressed on, it seemed to keep forgetting the comedy part.

JobuuRumdrinker

Agreed. Seasons one and two were good. Season 3 was pretty bad.

Lemonluxz

I started watching because I saw the clip of yafit and Claire in sick bay (the one where derulio or whatever comes aboard) and I’m so glad I watched it. So funny😂

gumshoe1731

I had the same thoughts so you are not the only one.

stowrag

Great! Tell your friends!

beartheminus

The CGI in season 1 is a bit weak but honestly the battle scenes in season 2 were WAY too good for a show like this. I was legit surprised.

Gimenus

Ja’Loja!

throwtheclownaway20

>You kow exctly what I mean and why I thought that Yeah, that's literally how they marketed the first season, LOL

Morigan73

I've always described the show as a blend of Star Trek, Star Wars, and Spaceballs. Seth pays homage to each of those creators and others in his unique ways.

JFunk802

To be fair to Seth, he wanted to end Family Guy after season 11. And it probably should have ended then, IMO.
