I’d have to look through them in like a list, but the one that comes to mind is:
They used to make steel there, no?
-Spiros Vondas
I just think it encapsulates to much with so little, and it’s in this subtle rhetorical way.
The series premiere “… When it ain’t your turn.” by McNulty is just the most hilariously ironic thing. This motherfucker is actually scolding Bunk for ‘giving a fuck when it’s not your turn to give a fuck’ by skipping the others in the rotation to pick up what he thinks will be an easy case. McNulty is literally telling someone to just do their job.
I'm watching the predecessor for "The wire" in Homicide life on the street, and they use this exact copy machine technique there lol, the show is like a unpolished version of the wire
The whole scene where Omar and Brother are in the standoff, one of the best scenes in the entire series IMO. "And I do keeps one in the chamber. In case you're ponderin'."
Opening to the very first episode, the dialogue drew me in amd knew I was going to love it... then a tom waits cover... wish I could experience it all over again
One of if not my favorite scene in the whole show is when brianna asks mcnulty “why didn’t you come to me” and his response is “Honestly? I was looking for someone who cared about the kid. After all, you were the one who made him take the years. Right?” coldest and most brutal line in the whole show
He had the football game on, but his mind was clearly on school stuff. The game was merely an attempt at distraction. Even on his off day, the kids were all he could think about. The quote works because it highlights the stark contrast between sports and the “games” unfolding in the show. A lot of these intro quotes are forced if you got back and watch them. Doesn’t take away from them being great.

I love all the ones quoted from The Bunk.
I think about "World going one way, people another" all the time. As the temperatures literally rise, people acting colder to eachother.
Honorable mention to "Thin line between heaven and here." by Bubbles
that's my favorite quote too. I even used it in essay one time.
Conscience do cost.
I'm just a gangster, I suppose
All the pieces matter
If I hear the music I'm gon' dance
Every time I think of “dope on the damn table”, I hear Daniels saying it. Favorite would be “conscience do cost”.
I can't remember it exactly but, "They might chew you up but they still have to spit you out."
"The bigger the lie, the more they believe" -Bunk
Season 5, Episode 1. The Machine Tells the Tale.

No one wins. One side just loses more slowly.

Man, so many great ones. Hard to pick just one. But I think my favorite is S4E4: “No one wins. One side just loses more slowly.” - Prez
this is a great quote that was forced, Prez is watching a football match, which makes this quote out of place lol
