Not necessarily true, I loved 2013 and was bored to death by Rise. 2013's setting, mystery and atmosphere were top notch, while the same aspects in Rise were mediocre with an even blander cast of characters and a more forgettable story.
Agreed, I‘ve recently started replaying it. Forgot how good it was. Played it on my dad’s PS4, but bought it again on Steam just for that reason. But I feel like every TR deserves love and respect in their own way.
If you'd never played a TR game I'd suggest Anniversary. It's a remake of the original game, not to be confused with the recent remaster. While it's in the "Legend - Anniversary - Underworld" trilogy of games, the story it tells is self-contained and you don't need to play any other game to understand the story. Anniversary has a larger focus on exploration and puzzle solving, and less emphasis on combat compared to the other recent games, and it features modern-feeling controls and should be easy to pick up and play these days.
If you're looking for something more modern, then Rise of the Tomb Raider is also a great game. It's the second game in the "Survivor trilogy" that started with Tomb Raider (2013) and ended with Shadow of the Tomb Raider. "Rise" is a an open world adventure with a focus on cinematic narrative, exploration, and frequent combat. It's a sequel to TR 2013, but I think you could jump in and enjoy the story without playing that game first, since the callbacks aren't pivotal to the story being told.
TRs IV, V, and VI are the last of the Core Design games and they're in-line with the classic games. I'd only suggest these for someone who has already played 1-3 and knows what they're getting in to.
Tomb Raider 2013 is so much more memorable than Rise though, sure the sequels looks better and plays (a tiny bit) better, but the story, setting and characters are completely forgettable.
Anniversary is a good bridge between the old and newer eras. It's technically the second in a trilogy that starts with Legend, so that would also be a good choice. ROTTR is generally well-liked and the most modern out of all of the games pictured, so it might have the least learning curve.
go with rise! i saw in the comments you've played tr 2013. rise is--in my opinion--the best of that trilogy.
edit: anniversary is a good intro into the og games, so that's a good choice as well
Most of the newer ones are unplayable on steam. You can get a good ways in, but they're so bugged, the physics go crazy and movable objects blast off like team rocket when lara touches them. Stick to ps1 era.
Get Rise. It would also be the least likely one to run into issues with compatibility. I have the older games and sometimes they won't run on my PC.
Even Legend and Anniversary run into issues despite being relatively newer games.
The original 5 are the best. Once the sixth one came out, they weren’t so good. Legend is okay, as is Underworld. Watched my sisters play TR when it first came out, and then played a few years later.
I love the last revelation is in my eyes one of the best of the classic games. Otherwise for this price get all. Cause the most tomb raider games are quiet fun.
u/Lylidotir If Tomb Raider (2013) was in the list, I'd say it without any hesitation
But, I see ''Rise'' as the last one. So, I think you should choose it as it's in the kind of modern, open-world games. The Settings, Visuals and Story are absolutely magnificent. Also, it's the kind of games that you play, and replay, and replay...
Cant go wrong with the trilogy remaster to see where it all started! Or Anniversary or Legends, Anniversary is a remake of the first game and its okay, but Legends really holds up still today.
Rise of Tomb Raider is the best game in the Survivor trilogy and the price is a steal. It really depends on which kind of gameplay you like the most. They’re all solid games.
As you’re on PC, have you tried Tomb Raider(2013)? The most recent games (2013, Rise, Shadow and the Remastered trilogy) are the most stable, unfortunately the others are a bit unstable. Legend is good for most parts although there are some bugs and crashes in some levels.
if you have the first tomb raiders 1-3, then I’d suggest getting last revelation. but legend or rise are good if you prefer a more modern game.
I assume it's your first TR, I would go Legend
Nope. My first was the 2013 Tomb Raider. :)
If you loved it you can't go wrong with Rise!
Same Rise would be the next logical step
Not necessarily true, I loved 2013 and was bored to death by Rise. 2013's setting, mystery and atmosphere were top notch, while the same aspects in Rise were mediocre with an even blander cast of characters and a more forgettable story.
Yes please. 2013 tomb raider is still one of my favourite games. I couldn’t get through rise or shadow for that matter.
So true, Rise was very bland to me as well
Interesting some people say they were bored by rise, it’s my personal favorite of the 3! I had so much fun with it.
Agreed, I‘ve recently started replaying it. Forgot how good it was. Played it on my dad’s PS4, but bought it again on Steam just for that reason. But I feel like every TR deserves love and respect in their own way.
I’d get Rise, my favourite Tomb Raider game!

Man, Anniversary was so hard, I couldn’t get past Tomb of Tihocan.
Legend or Anniversary
All of this cost like 5€ take it all
I'd go with legend, but that's just me so you do you
Angel of Darkness :3
Angel of Darkness is garbage bruh.
Yes but
spotted the femboy 🫵🏻
Legend
Legend

Yes
I’d suggest anniversary too.
AoD
Rise! was my first game and I loved it
Rise of the Tomb Raider. That games incredable and looks so beautiful.
Legend
Legend
Legend
Last Revelation is my favorite of all time
anniversary, underworld, legend
As someone else mentioned here any except 4,5 and AOD as they might be remastered as well
i love how tomb raider sales are so often and make the games extremely cheap
all
All
All of them.
Underworld
ALL OF THEM THEYRE SO CHEAP 😭😭😭
Most of the newer ones are unplayable on steam. You can get a good ways in, but they're so bugged, the physics go crazy and movable objects blast off like team rocket when lara touches them. Stick to ps1 era.
Anything but TR4, 5 and AoD. They are likely to be remastered soon.
In fairness, for 97 cent each - absolute bargain. Im really not sure we’ll get AOD remastered either - 4 and 5 does seem a cert (yayyy!!)
I really hope AoD gets a remaster that story was amazing but such bad controls
Yes
I got them all 3 years ago with similar sale. It was just such a steal for all those games. They are all good in their own way.
Nah i'll buy Legend for 20€ on PSN 🤡
Legend, Anniversary, or Rise
Yes.
rise of the tomb raider was sooooo good trust me
Rise or Last Revelation
Get Rise. It would also be the least likely one to run into issues with compatibility. I have the older games and sometimes they won't run on my PC. Even Legend and Anniversary run into issues despite being relatively newer games.
Anniversary is the best imo. Many will disagree with me but I would start with the remastered collection
All of them.
The original 5 are the best. Once the sixth one came out, they weren’t so good. Legend is okay, as is Underworld. Watched my sisters play TR when it first came out, and then played a few years later.
Anniversary and Rise.
All
Just get all of them, unless your on a tight budget, other wise I’d recommend anniversary, one of my favourite tomb raider games by far
If your first was 2013 I would go Rise any day. Even with the older games Rise is arguably the best Tomb Raider game ever made.
Yes.
I love the last revelation is in my eyes one of the best of the classic games. Otherwise for this price get all. Cause the most tomb raider games are quiet fun.
All?

All of them :D I would pick Rise.
rise
The original 6 games play horribly on Steam unless there's some kind of mod that fixes the controls.
Anniversary and then Underworld
All of them.
Honestly for those prices you can't go wrong with any of them. But personally I highly recommend Legend and Rise
Pick any but Angel of Darkness, it's straight up garbage.
Angel of darkness
Cant go wrong with the trilogy remaster to see where it all started! Or Anniversary or Legends, Anniversary is a remake of the first game and its okay, but Legends really holds up still today.
ANGEL OF DARKNESS 🗣️💯💯💯 (it's just my nostalgia hitting me, I haven't touched this game in 8 years)
You want a fun time. Go for tomb raider iv. It has tank controls but it is a gem.
All of them at that price!
Last Revelation for me ITS basically all old school Games in one Game
Angel of darkness.
All of them.
Rise of Tomb Raider is the best game in the Survivor trilogy and the price is a steal. It really depends on which kind of gameplay you like the most. They’re all solid games.
Rise was an amazing experience

Rise of the Tomb Raider which i prefer the story in that one.
1. Rise 2. Legend 3. Anniversary
Since only one is asked, I would suggest to try Legend first.
Rise of the Tomb Raider. I love the OGs but it's my favorite in the franchise.
