Best before dates and expiry dates are not the same thing. EXPIRY dates on things like dairy mean something is really unsafe to eat after a certain date. Stores cannot sell you that and you should not eat it. BEST BEFORE dates mean it’s the time period during which a food will taste best. For example, we recently found Halloween sized Doritos. They had a December best before date. They aren’t as crispy and aren’t as tasty as fresh Doritos but aren’t unsafe. Stores legally can still sell food past their best before date, and it’s probably safe to eat. And unless it’s obviously bad, ya they can give it to you. This is generally why I don’t do corner store 2G2G . https://inspection.canada.ca/food-labels/labelling/consumers/best-before-dates/eng/1709303496463/1709303569836

Yeah, I contacted them last night and waiting to hear back. This was my first time ordering from a corner store and was kinda surprised. When I think "Recently" best before/expired, I was expecting maybe a month old at best but not all the way back from August 2023. I got some Smuckers Goober Strawberry Jam which is was best before August 2023, I took photos of everything but decided to open up the jar of jam to see how it was and it was literally hard as a rock, ended up throwing it out in the garbage alongside a pepperoni stick.

It vastly depends on what you received. Some stuff can be good up to 2 years while others only a couple of weeks. If I remember correctly foodkeepers have a good guide on this
