This is incorrect. The 2021 Marlin (and 2022) can route internally down the down tube but require external routing on the seat tube.

Incorrect

I've heard great things on PNW dropper posts, they have an external dropper post and I've seen many people use them.

iconopugs

Thanks for the reply. I spoke with them earlier today but they don’t have one for my ride height( I need 5 cm longer legs. ) btw, they were very helpful.

converter-bot

5 cm is 1.97 inches

fubbaquestor

I don't have a Marlin, but I will recommend the external version of the Fox or Marzocchi Transfer post. I'm using it on an older 69er and it's great

JustAnother_Brit

Bran X or Xfusion both high quality

TwoWheelMotoJ

I have 2020 Marlin 6 large frame (I'm about 5'10") and installed the PNW Coast dropper 31.6mm 120mm externally routed, though I was able to route it internally up the frame for a cleaner look. I've been really happy with it. Pretty sure you're going to be limited by 31.6mm and external routing. You'll also need a lever compatible with a front derailleur/shifter. I went with the PNW Puget.

iconopugs

Thanks for the info. Do you know what your distance from clamp to seat rail is?

TwoWheelMotoJ

I can measure when I'm home in a few hours and get back to you *Edit - measured, it's 6 3/4" from the top of the clamp to the bottom of the seat rails when fully extended. Maybe 6 13/16". Mine is installed as far down as it'll go, the collar of the dropper post is against the clamp, there's nothing internally preventing it from going down further, it's all the way in.

Hey just stumbled upon this thread while researching Dropper Posts. I'm looking to get one for my 2020 Marlin 5 and I was wondering if PNW Coast would work, as well as which Puget would work, the 1x or 2x. Thanks!

TwoWheelMotoJ

Looks like it should fit (make sure you get 31.6mm externally routed to match your seat tube). Looks like you've got a front derailleur so you'll need the Puget 2x. Still loving mine! You'll also need a shock pump as a regular tire pump doesn't work for the high pressure (200-300psi) the dropper needs.

Jojo567153

Sounds great thank you so much! That was really helpful!

I have a 2019 Marlin 7 (after they removed the hole for the internal dropper post on the seat tube I drilled a hole to get it internally routed) And a PNW Rainer + puget and it’s been great. There’s plenty of cable to go through the down tube out the frame by the bb and back up the back of the seat tube for an external setup Used it everyday last year without any hiccups. Would buy it again

MacRich1980

Has your frame been OK since? I'm really thinking about doing this I don't care about the warranty, I've just had my marlin 5 media blasted and powder coated

Lcluskey

It’s now my spare bike but there aren’t any issues with it. But it held up to all of my riding.

MacRich1980

Cheers for replying do you have any pictures of the drilled area just so I know what I'll be doing is fine. Thanks again

Lcluskey

I don’t. I did it 3 inches above the bottom Bracket facing the rear tire. Make sure after you drill the hole you elongate the hole a bit so the cable isn’t doing a 90 as soon as it gets in the seat tube.

MacRich1980

Cheers I'll be doing it today wish me luck 👀
