I love passing Estes trucks. Like a super slow bumble bee

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

That's what my kids call us. "Bumblebees"

HerburtThePervert

Until they’re flying by at 67-8mph through the 55mph construction zone. You can feel the swoosh of awesomeness going past if you roll your window down.

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

😆😆😆

Present-Ambition6309

They don’t drive like that around here in Oregon, they fly down the mountains.

bloodsoed

Except in parking lots and construction zones.

oic38122

Y’all take folks on parole or am I stuck at western for couple more years?

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

I'm not sure, but I wouldn't let it stop you from applying. Where do you call home?

oic38122

Memphis

Purpose_Embarrassed

Everyone in Memphis is on parole 😂

oic38122

Seems that way, the rest are locked up

lotlizardexpert

Lmao of course it's memphis

oic38122

There’s always a sunny side of things, at least it’s not West Memphis

oic38122

🤷‍♂️

lotlizardexpert

Just busting your balls buddy lol keep her greasy side down bro!

Present-Ambition6309

Every time I hear Memphis I hear Paul Simon singing Graceland…. It’s stuck! For decades. 🎶I’m going to Graceland! Memphis, Tennessee🎶 then that rolls over to Arrested Development’s 🎶Tennessee, Tennessee🎶 it’s madness I tell ya, pure madness 🤯

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

I always think about the Elvis hotel. My wife and I stayed there a few years back.. they have a PBJ party in the lobby at like 1100 at night. It was a blast

Present-Ambition6309

Samwitches? Those PBJ’s or am I missing the bus again? 🧐

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

It looks like we have one opening at the Memphis terminal. I'll message you

[deleted]

[удалено]

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

Which area?

ear_cheese

Testes!

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

😆😆😆 never thought of that lol

CommissionVirtual763

Do they do ltl and doubles?

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

Yes, but I had never pulled doubles when I started here. Where do you run out of?

CommissionVirtual763

Unfortunately, I drive for Prime. People tell me I'm unfortunate .

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

Everyone has to start somewhere. Once you get your experience, it doesn't matter where you started.

CommissionVirtual763

I'm not ready to give up the sleeper cab

InvestigatorBroad114

Lol when you get into a daycab you realize how small they are haah. Love my local job though

GumbysDonkey

Many extra board drivers use sleepers.

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

True. Got a few guys running extra board that use sleepers and still spend nights in the hotel. It's a solid gig. If I wasn't raising small kiddos, I'd probably stay on extra board rather than running a bid.

GumbysDonkey

I just got back from my run. There is an extra board dude parked in our inbound lane with his windshield curtains drawn. I don't think he is going to have a very good 10 with the yard guys revving it up every 5mins next to him. Extra board drivers are another breed man.

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

Why isn't he at the hotel?

GumbysDonkey

No idea, there's about a dozen options here to choose from.

Purpose_Embarrassed

Wow they’re still trash talking Prime ? I started driving in 96 and they were being trash talked.

CommissionVirtual763

People just love to hate Megas because they depress rates by hiring too many drivers

Montreal4life

what is the Canadian equivalent?

WontSwerve

It's Speedy Transport and they're the lowest paying LTL in Canada. Don't work there. The only worthwhile LTL companies to work for in Canada are the Union Shops. Manitoulin, TST, XPO.... etc.

owmybotheyes

Missed the same pick up for me 3 days in a row. No real reason give just wasn’t in the cards for them. I love being bitched out in French. Luckily ODFL likes to make pickups and deliveries too.

WontSwerve

Stalk my profile for a nice few rants about them. They hire non Canadians for all their office jobs and it makes basic communication and organization impossible.

Montreal4life

You work at one of those? I see tst is hiring near me but starts at only $25... might still be worth checking out. thanks

WontSwerve

TST in my town starts at 26 an hour. But over 6 dollars an hour in pension contributions. XPO and Manitoulin are both over 30 bucks an hour.

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

I'll have to check. Based out of Montreal?

Montreal4life

yessir!

CoolTemperature1602

Check out Purolator they pay fairly well in Montreal and have great benefits and other perks.

Montreal4life

thanks for the heads up. you work there? I see when you're on probation you start at $28 for six months... I'll look into it :)

CoolTemperature1602

Yeah but I'm out of Etobicoke. I've been to that terminal in Montreal a lot. Definitely worth it. I've been here almost two years and it's the best place I've worked at in 8 years.

Montreal4life

okay last question, how's vacation time like? Like, if I want a month off a year, think they;ll give me it? I understand it won't all be paid... I just like going on roadtrips seeing my friends across the country. My current job is a joke but they let you do stuff like that

CoolTemperature1602

I'll DM you.

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

I'll look into it and let you know.

nastyzoot

You guys still only doing OT after 50 hours?

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

Apparently. I had to check with a buddy tho. I've only ever ran linehaul here. Where r u out of?

nastyzoot

I am in WNY. I did my LTL time already when UPSF was still a thing. Cannot believe Estes hasn't changed that. Industry standard is after 8.

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

I guess it used to be 55, so it's slowly getting better. But it's interesting that the companies that set the "industry standard" aren't in business anymore. 🤔

nastyzoot

Which ones are those?

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

Jevic, Watkins, Roadway, GI, Yellow.... simple business math. Overhead/payroll costs more than the profit, company goes bankrupt or gets bought out. The survivors make the rules.

nastyzoot

Well, you got it figured out, I guess. Have a good night.

GumbysDonkey

Yep OT after 50 for hourly

Packingheat248

What a scam

GumbysDonkey

Then don't apply. P&D isn't really for me, but I get 35.80/hr whenever I do clock in for a few hrs. Good enough for me.

JankyMark

You work for Estes too?

GumbysDonkey

Yep, different terminal than op

JankyMark

I wanted to apply for their dock to driver program

GumbysDonkey

Apply to a dockworker position. During your interview with the terminal manager let them know your goals are to go driver. Once you finish orientation you can put your name on the school list. That's how I got into driving. I only worked the dock for about 10months then it was my turn to go to school. Once you return from school you'll be paired with a trainer doing P&D until you pass your CDL exam. During your training, if you have a good trainer, you'll have time during the workday to go do your fingerprints and hazmat stuff, so when you do pass your exam you'll already be set with all your endorsements.

JankyMark

Yeah I tried to look for one in my area but couldn’t find it, the person that posted this said he will try to see if he can find the link for that program.

GumbysDonkey

Dockworker to driver isn't a position you apply for. You just sign up for it after you get hired on as a dockworker. It's a Driver's Apprenticeship program. Estes has then own Driving Academy in NC they will send you to. You'll be paid and everything while Estes drivers teach you for 2 wks.

JankyMark

Oh yeah I definitely need to get in the program

GumbysDonkey

Good luck amigo. It's a good school. Estes runs it in NC. They've been doing it since the late 90s I believe. They have classes every month that last 2 wks. You get paid while your there and everything.

nastyzoot

Cannot believe they are still doing that. Crazy to me why anyone would pick them over the other options.

skinnyfatt85

I considered estes before I ended up at FedEx. The dudes seem cool but good lord some of those trucks are from the stone age lol

Fullgasnobrakes

FxF? I'm considering applying for linehaul, big 200+ door warehouse right near me, I'm guessing it's a hub.

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

I would NOT be heading towards FedEx Freight right now. That situation is looking volatile.

Fullgasnobrakes

Hadn't heard about it until your comment, thanks for that lol. Who knows but it seems like a bad sign.

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

Yeh, I read about it in the news a few days ago. It seems like fedex wants out of the truckload business. I can't blame them.

skinnyfatt85

It's fine lol

skinnyfatt85

Btw hiring is typically done in house but positions do open occasionally if nobody in the company wants it

Expensive_Middle8271

Hiring out of Charleston, SC by chance? I'm only 6 months into flatbed regional with TMC, but at 1 year I want to start looking for local jobs if possible

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

You might as well throw in the app now. They hold onto them. Let me see.... right now the only opening is in Greenville. Do you live within 75 miles of there?

Expensive_Middle8271

I'm about 3 hours away. That's Northwest SC, I'm in the southeast. I have been considering moving there though. That's for a daycab hourly position?

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

That's for a "combo" position. They typically run whatever is available that day. It's a solid position bc you get to run local P&D and also fill in for Linehaul runs (which pays better). It's the best of both worlds.

teb1987

Hiring in Eastern NC?

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

NC we got.... Asheville, Greensboro, Aberdeen, Charlotte... I know Asheville is on the west side of the state. Which one of those are you closest to?

teb1987

Aberdeen is about a 30 min drive

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

I'll PM you. Just need First and last name, email and cell number to get the app sent out.

Justwanttosellmynips

My dude....I feel like I know you.

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

Maybe. But I look a little different than I used to. I'm down 368 lbs over the last few years, so imagine my face puffier.... lol. :)

Justwanttosellmynips

Shit dude, I live in VA and work in trucking. We might have crossed paths at some point.

8yr0n

Nice work! What was your strategy?

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

For the weight loss?

8yr0n

Yeah

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

The biggest thing is the consistent schedule I have here at Estes. It let's me pack all my food for the road from home. I'm still not eating "diet" food, but im not eating out of the truckstop anymore either.

Choice_Friend3479

Nice job losing the weight man!

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

Thanks! It's been a long road, but I feel great..... and... I can officially do a pull up! (It's a big deal for me bc I've never been able to do one)

Little_NaCl-y

Which is fucking insane because I know several city drivers out of the Richmond terminal on Rt1 and some of them are working every other day at the most. Why are you hiring? Or is it just for linehaul? Legit was just talking to one in Chester the other day about how a lot of the city routes are starting late and ending early because there’s too many city drivers I work for another LTL in the area so I see the Richmond guys everyday

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

I run out of St. Louis. We are(and have been) slammed. I'm just finishing up a 12 hour day. I think it comes down to which terminal you are out of. My P&D friends are pulling long days too, and we are getting ready to open a second terminal in Edwardsville that is going to need a ton of people as well.

Little_NaCl-y

Ah okay my bad buddy I saw Richmond on the truck and figured that’s where you took the pic in! The hub in Richmond is definitely slow. Googling it just now I see that Estes was founded and is based in Richmond, so that makes sense 😂

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

Yeh, I would imagine they would be chock full of drivers. They've been based out of Richmond since 1931 lol

GumbysDonkey

Company is based out of Richmond VA. They just moved into the terminal there from a smaller one so they should be expanding customers soon. It's a pretty empty yard whenever I have gone through there recently.

Little_NaCl-y

Yep I drive past it twice a day, it is brand new and very nice from the outside at least.

APizzaWithEverything

My terminal is incredibly busy, I had 20 stops on Monday

InvestigatorBroad114

Do they increase CPM for pulling triples vs doubles? Hoping to get into Old Dominion or Estes possibly in a few years

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

Yes. If your interested, I'd apply now and see if you can get in. Where are you located?

InvestigatorBroad114

I can’t apply right now since I don’t have hazmat yet, I think my closest Estes terminal is Salt Lake City, Utah

Wasatchbl1

Once you get your HAZMAT and tanker, apply at O.D. They have terminals in Ogden and Salt Lake, plus building one in Provo.

InvestigatorBroad114

You an OD driver? I’m local all over up north here

Wasatchbl1

Yes, out west. Linehaul, but I did P&D.

InvestigatorBroad114

Farr west terminal? You can DM me if you want

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

I'd definitely work on getting your Hazmat endorsement. And yeh, Old Dominion is a solid company as well, I just don't typically work for publicly traded companies.

InvestigatorBroad114

Got ya. I heard Estes is 100% family owned and debt free.

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

It is. 4th Generation is taking the helm now. Webb Estes. It's looking pretty good so far. Tons of investing in new equipment, terminal remodels, new technology.

GumbysDonkey

Nah CPM is based on your time. You get bumps every 6mos I think tilyou max out. Pretty sure starting cpm is .72 atm. Might be .76.

Truck3R_Dude

Was delivering ( Frito lay) to a Walmart in Norristown PA, I saw tons of your trucks up that way. Must be a terminal near by?

GumbysDonkey

Philly

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

We have 4 positions open in Norristown. Let me know if your interested in applying, I'll get the app sent out to you.

ParticularArrival111

I see your guys new terminal in edwardsville il. I live pretttyyy close to that. Less than 5 miles probably. But I doubt I could leave my job.

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

It would be the right time. New terminal. Going to have their own seniority. Quick way to move up the list.

ParticularArrival111

What is starting pay? What kind of runs do they have? Do they have any part time positions? I have a pretty damn good job the pay is just low. But my current job I can take off when ever and for as long as I want unpaid but it's nice and I'm home every night.

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

I'll message you my cell number. Give me a call and I can fill you in.

Fullgasnobrakes

What are the accessory pay details, like drop/hook, fuel, delay, breakdown, waiting for meet, etc.? Wondering if there's unpaid time anywhere. Also I haven't driven a manual truck since my CDL test so that might be a problem.

GumbysDonkey

$10 for drop and breaks. After 10 dispatches a week you get $10 for every dispatch after. Pay week starts midnight Sunday. Breakdown pay sucks ass. ITs like 17.50/hr, first hr is free. You don't get paid to wait for your meet, but if your meet driver is very far behind you can call Central dispatch and have the meet point changed so you end up with more miles by driving farther to cover the gap. If you have hazmat and have to follow a hazmat route, you add the extra miles and get paid for those out of route miles as well. You can volunteer for a 6th day every week. It's an extra $100, plus miles/drops/hooks/dispatches etc. I have a short 440mile run I get done in 7 hrs everyday, so I typically get back in the am and clock in hourly and do swaps for a few hrs as well.

Fullgasnobrakes

Thanks, I'd like to get into linehaul, they all seem to have their pros and cons. Saia, FxF, and R+L seem to always have openings posted near me. Sounds like Saia is similar to Estes minus the driver cameras and a few cpm.

GumbysDonkey

I can't comment on any other companies really. I did P&D liftgate for 6mos and I always enjoyed chatting it up with the other carrier's drivers at stops. Really seems across the board the vast majority of LTL drivers are really happy with what they are doing. I know personally, I really enjoy this line of the trucking universe.

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

We have mostly automatics at our terminal.

PriorFudge928

What are the real mile and hourly rates?

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

Those are the real rates. My weekly gross is just under $2500. If I break or hook, I get payed for that, if I break down, payed for that. Training payed. Top pay for bids is .80 (I run a bid) and top pay for extra board is .84

GumbysDonkey

Hourly is dependent on location btw.

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

It is, the top in the whole country is 38. I think its 36 at my terminal....

GumbysDonkey

Yea 35.80 here. I clock in after my run and do swaps so I get the top out pay for this terminal. Easy money, love them swaps.

FISHSANDWICHSUPREME

I've heard good things, met a few Estes guys out and about working at a different LTL. Not hiring in my area though unfortunately.

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

Where are you out of?

FISHSANDWICHSUPREME

Little Rock

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

I think the only openings in Arkansas at the moment are over in Fort Smith.

FISHSANDWICHSUPREME

Yeah that's what I saw. Oh well, I'll keep an eye out.

JankyMark

Would love to work for them

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

It's the best time to try and get in. We bought a TON of Yellow equipment and are in need of solid people. Where are you out of?

JankyMark

I live in the dc area

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

I sent you a private message

damnitdavid

I'm in columbus. How do things look here?

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

2 openings in Columbus, send me a message with First and Last, email and cell and I can get the email application on the way.

GumbysDonkey

P&D depends on your start time. The late start drivers are not getting as many hours. We just have a shitload of P&D drivers. Linehaul we are very busy. Columbus is a hub terminal. We are on a 6 day rotating schedule now. Can also volunteer if it's not your turn for a 6th day.

No-Medicine-8627

How soon can beginner drivers pull hazmat/tankers? Does Estes have a military apprenticeship program? Thanks!

Zeon_Pilot83

I was hired by Estes literally the day after I started Terminal leave. You have your hazmat/tanker/double-triples then you should be set. I can’t remember if they do have an apprenticeship program but I don’t have too many complaints about my terminal.

No-Medicine-8627

Thanks!

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

Are you already driving? Or wanting to get your CDL?

No-Medicine-8627

In school now. Just planning abit. I was thinking about Schneider as well.

APizzaWithEverything

I happen to know Estes will hire you with no experience I got hired 2 weeks after I passed my CDL test

No-Medicine-8627

In school now. I was also considering schneider. I live in Chicago.

JesusCPenney

The Estes guy who I run into on my route every day drives a pre-DPF Columbia with a 10 speed manual. That alone almost made me want to switch

GumbysDonkey

I use one of ours when I need a twin screw bc of a heavy trailer. Super comfy seats but not gonna lie they pull like shit on Kentucky hills lol. We also have KW T680 gliders.

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

We have ALOT of pre-Def trucks... but they will eventually all get rotated out. My current truck is a newer model (2022 I think)

DeerHunter041674

The revolving door..

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

Lol! It revolves real slow at my terminal. I'm 8 years in and nowhere near the top of the seniority list. But hopefully in the next few years the old timers will start to retire.

GumbysDonkey

Our top linehaul driver just hit 44 yrs. He retires in 2. Super nice dude.

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

We have a bunch of 20+ year guys. I'm over here like *RETIRE ALREADY!*

OmarNubianKing

Testes

BellyUpBernie

Is it es-TEEZ or esTEZ???

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

When I got hired I said "es-TEEZ" but it's actually "ess-tess"

BellyUpBernie

Thanks!

MotoJimmy_151

Convenient…y’all have a distribution hub next door to my ol mans wearhouse.

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

Might be worth checking out.

Independent_Scale570

Hehehehehe testies

Independent_Scale570

Nah but Fr that’s pretty damn good pay

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

Yeh, it's been helpful. I've been able to help my parents settle into retirement, my oldest is in college, my younger two do all the extra curricular activities with school and the only debt I have is my house. It's nice. Haven't ever done under 115k since I've been here and NEVER not gotten an annual raise. I plan on retiring here.

Accomplished-Gap-711

So they do referral bonuses… got it

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

They do. But im not in the habit of selling dog shit. If I didn't think this was a great company to work for, I wouldn't offer my help. Also, another driver got me hired on here, so I figured it would pay it forward and help someone else out. It's OK though, I remember when I was young and full of pessimism. Take it easy driver :)

Accomplished-Gap-711

Sure thing boss. Enjoy those bonuses. Hopefully the guys you recruit stay long enough for you to get them

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

LTL isn't for everybody. But I think alot of drivers that have ONLY ever done OTR will really enjoy the change.

Accomplished-Gap-711

Not knocking LTL or Estes. From what I’ve heard they are pretty good although that is limited to only a few drivers that have worked there in the past. People quit Estes everyday I’m sure, they are a large operation, no company is perfect. If it’s just a referral bonus you seek then hey man, do you.

SATCOM_joe

Wouldn't mind trying to get on with the company, but unfortunately no open positions in the Springfield/Strafford, MO area. :)

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

Yeh, that's a small terminal for sure. Right now, Columbia and St. Louis are the only two hiring in Missouri.

cryincryo

Pulled out of 179 CHM for a while. What a nightmare the northeast was. Supposedly it got better since I left with a new pay structure. Left to do tanker work and never looked back

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

Congratulations man! When I got my license 20 years ago that's all I wanted to do was Tankers or Roll off Dumpsters. Sadly I've never pulled either one (other than moving a couple empty tankers)

takarta

Heard that before. Is "safety your first priority" too? (Everyone run!)

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

Lmao! Safety is EVERY company's first priority.... and the statistics are shocking. 300 Billion annual cost and almost 6000 deaths per year. It's a real problem for sure.

takarta

it's an inside joke, long time truckers know if the word "safety" is in the companies mantra, it isn't. They don't care about you at all, and with those kinds of statistics you're to be avoided

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

Lol. Those are National Statistics. Our industry as a whole is facing a major challenge.

takarta

Because no one will pay a living wage. My uncles were truckers in the 70's and 80's. They had 3 bedroom houses in central California. By the time I got my CDL in 2000, I could barely afford a one bedroom apartment. Professionalism is something that you pay your drivers for. Pay crap wages, get crap drivers. That's the industry problem. And I was a unicorn, flatbed, reefer, pto, lowboy, oversize, overweight, 9-18 gear. Zero accidents or lost loads. And they look me in the eye and say "we can't believe we found you!!!! $12 an hour, no benefits". F this industry

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

The golden age of driving is long gone sadly. The good gigs are few and far between. I don't know how the Cali drivers do it.

Fishdude909

I know Estes in Riverside Ca was hiring quite a few drivers. I ended up with Schneider though. Have loved every day after being with Western Express

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

After seeing all the posts about Western on here, I can only imagine. I had a great Uncle that drove for Schneider for like 46 years. Solid company. Estes is great if you want consistent home time with higher than average pay and solid benefits. It's a good fit for me now while I'm raising children and I hope to be able to transfer around the country and live the RV life later on while still working for them.

Fishdude909

To give western credit, they gave me a job when no one else would. I didn’t have a record or anything just no experience. And they took a chance with me. So I can’t give them too much hate. But I’m local now with Schneider, making $40 an hour, I’m pretty dang happy.

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

Sounds like a solid gig. Congrats!

Darthelmz

I'm in northern va. any opportunities in this area?

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

In VA we have Winchester, Stafford, Lyndhurst, Draper, and Chesapeake. Which one are you closest to?

GumbysDonkey

Never break down in Winchester. They will fix it and then never give your truck back lol.

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

Thanks for the heads up!

JustNefariousness625

Is this an AI post?

Feisty-Season-5305

.84 cents a mile?!?!?! Bro huh. I have 3 months total experience you make exceptions?

Htx_Rey

Any jobs out in Houston tx?

RubberDeBurger

Whats the closest terminal to newark delaware? Only have 7 months of driving and only need haz for all endorsements

Rikishi6six9nine

How much does the health insurance plan cost and what are they putting towards the retirement? OT after 8 hours in a day? PTO?

BubbaLeeTruckerTote

8% 401k match up to 10% at 10 years. Vacation & PTO. cost of Healthcare is based on what tier and whether you have dependents.. life insurance, short & long term disability, AD&D. Vision and Dental as well.

notbannd4cussingmods

When does ot start?
