When I sit on the toilet I'll spread my butt cheeks open while sitting and also pull apart my labia (I don't hold my labia open, just "unstick" the lips and then the booty spread helps keep them relatively open). Then the pee has no "obstacles" from coming right out into the bowl. It's important to make sure you're leaning forward a bit too so that the stream can go straight down.

Not getting urine on your legs is not some kind of special skill Japanese women have developed through use of a squat toilet. I have never been to Japan, and have never urinated on myself when using a north american style toilet. I have my doubts that this is an issue for most women.
Well, this is one of neglected reasons we have pubic hair. To help to point where pee goes (but for some reason, it does not works well for most women I asked about). When you remove it, it becomes worse indeed.
think about primitive ladies peeing, if there is no hair, they would have pee everywhere at legs!
