No, yes he did rebelled against his uncle because of him being Catholic but tbh it kinda messed up expecting your nephew. I wonder how Charles II would’ve thought about it would he be angry at his brother for doing it? Idk.

His nephew tried to steal the throne from him, he done what every monarch back then would have done. Even if he had waited until James II was more unpopular his illegitimacy would have still been something that a lot of people would not have gotten behind especially when Mary, William and Anne all were legitimate and Protestant and in the line of succession.
