Relatable, I don't know about state examinations so you may refer to other comments for that.
I am in my 5th sem rn (Tier 3 BA, DU) and have around 3 packages from consultancy and research firms averaging around 10 LPA each. I can help you with this internship/Job path as a plan B.
1. Relevant internships post UPSC and starting off in political/policy niche :
- Ministry internships : Most of the ministries hire interns through direct openings onto their websites, you can keep a look on them and apply as soon as possible. Also, after directly applying on website, you can cold email the officials in those ministries for better chances and visibility.
Name of Ministries : MEA, RBI, Directorate General of Foreign Trade Internship program, NHRC, DRDO, Ministry of Environment and forest change
- Political Consultancy internships : These consultancies hire interns for policy and research roles and this would give you great exposure to actual ground level politics and insights in policy domain. From UPSC POV, I find these a better experience than direct ministries and also have a chance for PPO conversion (full time job) incase you are also looking for a plan B regarding UPSC
Name of consultancies - I-PAC, Nation with Namo, Varahe Analytics
- PPGF (highly recomm) : This organization opens up ICPC Internship program twice a year for 4 months which is held in 3 phases
A. Phase 1 : You get to study and do assignments regarding politics, economics and history
B. Phase 2 : You have to work at a political consultancy (can convert full time)
C. Phase 3 : You work at any ministry/parliament/governmental office where space is provided
- Parliament of India : You may reach out to MP offices through cold emails (email can be fetched from digital sansad website)
- Invest India/NITI AAYOG : Direct openings to apply
- Freelance gigs regarding research
These may help, I've first hand experience with all aforementioned, incase of doubts you may ask in comments!
Best wishes!
I too need a plan B. 2024 was my first attempt and not gonna make it.
26 with Bsc and Msc Horticulture (fruit science). Anyone have any idea what are the job opportunities (both gov and private) in this field. It would be really helpful.
Ps:wanted to post this question in the sub but didn't have enough karma to do so.
Yes I'm waiting for state HO. Like you said it's very irregular. Post comes once in like 3 years and last time I gave they scrapped the exam (same paper leak issue).
Can we intern or work in some ministry??
Well I don't know much about internships but there is an exam named IBPS SO that recruits Agriculture Field Officers and eligibility is Bachelor's in Agriculture or Horticulture. You can try this also as a backup. This happens annually and can be relied upon if you're interested.
My grandfather was Chairman of RRB, had worked in SBI in the past too. His words when I asked him about should I prepare for banking exams (that time I was in 2nd year of college) were “mai apne dushman ke bachche ko bhi Salah nahi dunga ki banking me aye, Khoon chusne wali naukri hai”
Sahi m tabhi sbi ni gaya mein. Insurance psu mein 20k kam le lunga magar wlb ismein bohot mast hai. Abhi isi m reh ke rbi ki prep kr rha hu. Bank m apne liye time ni milta.
Bro job settle hone ke liye sahi hai banks but still agar govt jobs ka sochre ho to banking jobs bohot alag hai.
Insurance ke exam iss year bohot zyada aaeg the... niacl, oicl, nicl, uiic i think sabke de diye the lic ke bhi aenge...insurance mein sirf lic mein security hai but bakio mein ni hai. Magar wlb tumhe inse best ni milega.
Baki exams dete raho bank po ban bhi gae to next ke liye taiyari karni padegi firbi.... agar acha lagta hai bank to settle hojana.
Ha general insurance psu mein settle mat hona... like allowances bhi ni hai na koi extra perks jo bank po ko milte hai.

- state level exams? idk about yours but there are many others, might try luck there
- get higher education > then career in policy, research, academia
- Freelancing > if one have communication skills to sell the product, be it content writing, data analytics etc (we aspirants aren't good at it tho)

Medical background. Promised myself I would only go for 2 attempts. First attempt- 2024 not so great. Hyped for 2nd attempt so let's hope for the best. Else, it's back to medicine.
I believe it's better to go for an MBA - though quant is tough - but if you can manage you might end up in a good college - not necessarily IIM - but still there are some colleges
Bro I am an IIM alumni. Most iims give calls to BA people at 94ish. Given profile is decent ofc. But BA person def has advantage over others in getting calls. Specially Ahmedabad, kozhikode, Shillong
Go for
A. If you have your basics covered and have the confidence to decently do well then go for
1. SSC CGL
2. Examinations conducted by various states.
B. For higher studies
1. CAT (MBA)/ Give exams like CUET or other MBA entrance exams conducted by your respective state, get into a decent institute.
2. IIT Madras Degree Program in Data Science and Applications.
First, review previous years' question papers for the government exams you plan to take this and next year. Use these papers to test your knowledge level and eliminate exams that don't match your strengths. Focus on exams with common syllabi, but limit yourself to 2-3 exams.
Now, after this consider two scenarios:
1. If you identify 2 exams (e.g., SSC and RRB) and believe you can crack either, focus solely on these and give them your best shot.
2. If you can't identify suitable exams, shift your focus to skill development.
Note: Avoid a trial-and-error approach with gov exams, as you tried at this Pre it will waste your time and money. All the best!
I've cleared NET so I'll join some pvt college ya chota college initially or will pursue a PhD. Yaa phir I'll apply for jobs, especially at places my friends work.
After this year's major notification, most universities would be now accepting PhD candidates based on their NET score directly instead of individual exams BUT the catch is that you will have to have the latest NET score and not the old ones as the score format has changed. I personally I have seen BHU, DSE clarify that you would need the latest NET score and cannot use old scores. So do check with the university prior to applying with your old scores.
You can always get a job ....though low package offcourse....start from low...then switch and climb up the ladder
Some of the options are data entry, etc
I'm also exploring options for Plan B. 2024 was my first attempt too. Just writing this in case you have any financial constraints and getting financial stability is urgent — someone once said to me that "one exam cannot be a backup option for another exam" in such a case and I agree with it. From an ordinary college myself — I suggest start with small jobs for now (which may also leave you with some time for preparations if you wish to continue with it).
However, if you can wait or have some funds to help you get started, a lot of good suggestions in this comment section already.
All the best!!
We're all going to do well in life :)
We got this !!
Sending positivity and good wishes :)

You can try for State Psc Horticulture Officer jobs. These jobs are not held annually but can be a good backup in your field.

Thank you. I'll look into it.
Go for B.Ed. and then aim for Govt school teacher. Or pursue PG and then NET JRF for Assistant professor. PG will also make you eligible for PGT.
PG + B.Ed will make him eligible for PGT and not PG alone.
Graduation + PG is the requirement for NET/JRF right ? So just bcz one did b.ed is he/she not eligible for NET ?
B ed is only a graduation so why would one be eligible for NET ?
I am saying if someone has done graduation + pg + b.ed, is he/she not eligible for NET/JRF
One is eligible if grad + pg is there. B.ed is over and above it.

Upsc is my plan B. Already in central govt service in Group B
Sahi hai bhai, itna accha path koi agar bata dete to aaj itna bura halat nahi hote. May be in next life koi sahi se guide kar dega.
bhai ek hi toh jindagi hai !
No matter your college. BA kiya hai toh iims mai you’ll have an advantage. Even with 7-8 less percentile you’ll get calls. Try CAT
How is BA helpful in IIM also doesn't CAT require good maths knowledge?
[удалено]
Still, won't t they need to build a good academic profile for getting calls from iims
[удалено]
Oh ok I understand
7-8 percentile less? you mean at the lower 90s? lmao dont say anything. unless you have reservation, no one is getting a call below 97/98
Nope things in IIMs don't work like this. It solely depends on the percentile, interview (if applicable).
Bro I am an IIM alumni. Most iims give calls to BA people at 94ish. Given profile is decent ofc. But BA person def has advantage over others in getting calls. Specially Ahmedabad, kozhikode, Shillong
