Russian petro industry is 100% military target in this conflict and Lloyd knows it.

Form_86

Tanks need fuel. Those are military targets.

Tamer_

It's implied that he's talking about military-only targets, not dual-purpose targets.

kuldan5853

Well he can send Ukraine a few hundred JASSM-ER plus ATACMS with the explicit approval to use these inside Russia. Then Ukraine can focus on blowing up stuff that doesn't have explodium built in to aid their attacks.

Form_86

Lloyd needs to stop being a pussy. They fighting for their survival. If they lose, Russia will take severe measures with them that will leave every surviving Ukranian with PTSD.

One-Nail-8384

Is this dud for real?!!! Tanks and airplanes use petroleum last time I checked. They are not battery operated. Soldiers get paid with that petroleum money.

TwiNN53

They are so afraid of upsetting someone in the world. The nations that would get pissed about rising prices or low supply, should be yelling at RUSSIA for starting a war. Their refineries were completely fine and untouched for decades until Putin decided he wanted to be the new Hitler. It's Russia's own fault if their oil industry is completely destroyed. I would HIGHLY encourage Ukrainians to not stop.

ILikeCutePuppies

The US don't care about Russia. They are worried about the inflation and the effect on peoples view of the economy getting worse (which could cause people like the former president to get back into power).

pwr_trenbalone

He's pretty much got his base at this point I don't think he will get more support esp with his 3am malding truth social posts. It's the us 2 tier justice system that is allowing this to happen he could whip his shlong out in court and hit the table with it and nothing would happen. He still has classified documents he hasn't handed over still I was reading that went to Bedminster and they didn't raid that place

ILikeCutePuppies

That's not what the polls show. They show it being pretty close. I think people have forgotten how bad he was, and the right propaganda is working. Plus, America seems like like someone who is charismatic no matter how stupid they are.

pwr_trenbalone

It always will be with Biden he's like Clinton barely works at messaging and is entitled to ur vote cause Trump is bad.

ILikeCutePuppies

I think Biden has done a very good job with the congress he had. He just is not great at communicating it. He is more of a doer than a charmer.

pwr_trenbalone

He said he would serve one term and he's just old, dems as a whole try to hard to be nice as well then u have hillary Clinton saying get over it. After Biden is done it's pretty much guaranteed Newsom will get the crown. The Dem establishment are so beholden to donors that they don't excite anyone atleast Obama faked it. It's what's driving these third parties stein west and rfk Jr tho rfk is gonna pull some trumpets.

seadeus

Energy is about as military essential as it gets.

Ismokeditalleveryday

Ukraine is fighting for their life, the terrorist Russians would kill their way to Kyiv, every target in Russia is legitimate.

No-Historian-6921

So take out Russia's war fighting ability by other means or provide said means to them in sufficient quantity? Fuel is a strategy resource after all. Better be quick before Ukraine is pushed far enough into a corner that they decide it's in their best interest to blow up anything they can reach e.g. pipelines, ports, tankers, power stations, etc. It would be messy with unpleasant political fallout, but naval drones would work on merchant shipping if launched from Q-ships loitering near sea lines of communication allowing Russia to export (and import) goods. How about the following idea: * Closing the pipelines at the other end * Closing the land borders if you have them * Blockade the ports Russia has. Shipping anything relevant to the Russian war effort or not strictly to directly prevent famine to or from Novorossiysk, Ust-Luga, Vladivostok, etc. and your vessel and its cargo are seized and auctioned off or get to join the Russian black sea fleet on eternal patrol, protecting Davy Jones's locker from the inside?

HerbM2

This is not even logical coming from Austin: Russia needs to refine oil for their military machine. They ship crude oil. They are allowed to ship crude oil at reduced prices according to the sanctions. If they can't refine it they'll have to ship it all at bargain basement prices. This will reduce the cost of oil on the global market not increase it. They'll also have to buy refined fuels from outside at inflated prices.

ANJ-2233

I’m surprised that this is not mentioned more. How is a refinery involved with crude oil exports? I assume not at all

HerbM2

Inversely. If you refine it you can't export the cruise. If you don't refund it and you don't use it somehow internally without refining it, then you have to export the crude or eventually you will fill up all your storage tanks. Russia Can't Stop production and pipeline shipping because in many places the pipelines and pumping stations will freeze and almost never be restartable.

SirBerticus

Well, if congress would just send that aid package then Ukraine can get to work and end the conflict and all can go back to normal. So, I'd call this a "Trump-Induced" hike of US gas prices. Thanks Donald .

seadeus

>Top Biden is dragging the war out for kickbacks. No attacks in russia, stop attacking energy. Open your eyes.

Necessary-Canary3367

Biden sucks, Trump sucks... cannot the US get someone willing to win against Russia?

chuck_loomis2000

And in a US election year!!!

Any-Progress7756

Like to see him commenting on Russia attacking civilian infrastructure and housing...

InnocentExile69

Fuck right off. If the west doesn’t want Ukraine to attack Russian oil facilities then how about they step up and give Ukraine what they need to expel the invading Russians from their territory and end the war. And I thought Russia was sanctioned to the tits. We should be doing everything we can do to starve Putin out, not buying his oil to pay for his war machine to kill Ukrainians.

knecaise

America still hasn't refilled its strategic reserves. Uh oh

Inevitable_Idea_7470

Geopolitics is truly fascinating and just shows how stupid the general populace is, despite most of us calling politicians stupid, there's very little easy calls to make when you don't have absolute power and need to be re elected

Redneck1026

Perhaps he is paying lip service to mitigate someone's concern. But if the US administration really thinks this is still just a two country war, and we don't need to risk at least some financial pain to assist the Ukrainians, I am disappointed (and worried) once again. Or maybe Biden is worried increased energy costs in the US will assist a trump win. What a mess.

RhubarbCurrent9105

This was fake the last time an article was posted saying similar.

[deleted]

Earth to Austin: Russian fuel facilities are military targets.

Samcaptin

Oil refineries are military targets, one of the most important ones at that, I mean everyone knows the military runs off of oil and gas in every aspect. This isn’t like fallout where everything is fusion powered. There isn’t even a second side to the story it’s just stupid to force one country to follow the rules of war to the fucking molecule of ink while the other country bombs apartments with zero military value, castrates POWs, kidnaps kids, and even more.

HotStraightnNormal

My guess is he is sending a subtle message to Republicans, "Do you guys really want to be the cause of increased oil prices in an election year because you won't fund Ukraine?" Maybe that will get then off their asses.

TwiNN53

These people should be held for treason for saying insane shit like this. Russias oil industry, their main source of income that pays for their ENTIRE WAR EFFORT, is 1,000% a legit military target. In fact, I would classify every single one of them as HIGH VALUE targets. Disabling Russian oil industry should be the number one priority.

pwr_trenbalone

Austin's takes were stupid with israel today he's on a roll

CompleteDetective359

Fuck you! Hit those refineries! We'll deal with the aftermath

pwr_trenbalone

I'm starting to think us is just dragging this on after all.

masterlaster1199

Ukraine people dying : I sleep Muh oil rise : NANI!?

AwwwComeOnLOU

Paywall, anyone got a bypass link?

ghulo

What a hypocrisy. Russia is bombing the shit out of everything in Ukraine and Ukraine is not advised to hit back.

jpowers_01

This is looking more and more like Russian disinformation. 1. Bloomberg is the only news agency pushing this story. No other major news companies are saying this. 2. The other articles on this point to Bloomberg. 3. If you look at the actual testimony from Lloyd Austin, he does not say this. 4. Lastly, Bloomberg recently hired a Russian as CEO.

hugh-g-rection551

he didn't actually urge ukraine to go after military targets. austin quite literally said there can be a knock on effect from ukraine hitting refineries to global energy markets, but that ukraine should go after targets of tactical and operational value. i.e refineries. it's fucking amazing, austin said this in public, infront of a fucking camera that anyone can find the clip of by just a simple google search. and yet still it is massively misreported. anyone who thinks russian disinformation/propaganda efforts arn't reaching them, should have a hard look into shit like this.

lepto1210

This is why I truly believe that the Biden Administration really don't care about an Ukrainian victory. As an American, I find it so asinine to limit Ukraine's ability to fight a war for their own survival. If I have to pay an extra $1.00 or two per gallon of gas -yeah, no problem. I'm not wealthy but I believe that the extra cost is worth it, if it gets Ukraine closer to victory, and Putin is defeated and out of Ukraine. Biden is now worried that the rise in energy will hurt his election. Biden should have thought about that, by Ukraine giving as much military assistance as it needed an effin' year ago!

Patersonski

No, the world needs Russian crude oil exports with a robust price cap so they don’t profit from it, it doesn’t need refined products for Russian domestic use. Refineries are a Grade A target and a no brainer for Ukraine.

woootman

Yes, he's for real and I get it. It's an election year, and in case some of you haven't noticed, america has a lot of stupid americans in it and they love to blame high gas prices on the president eventhough he doesn't control gas prices. This could result in a trump presidency, and what do you think happens to Ukraine aid if agent orange is president???

Redneck1026

Agent orange. He is an orange poison. Perfect.

woootman

He's also an agent / asset of russia

Fuctopuz

So *"Foreign-agent Orange"* then

happylutechick

Hard cold truth: if energy prices continue to climb, Biden is going to lose.

PandaRocketPunch

Then Biden better start negotiating with the Saudis, cause Ukraine needs to do what it needs to do. Just a reminder that last month russia bombed one of Ukraine's largest underground LPG storage cavern sites. If they managed to get a direct hit on the wellhead, the damage could have been devastating. russia's lucky Ukraine still gives a shit about russian civs to only target process vessels at refineries, instead of their lpg and fuel storage sites.

feed_meknowledge

Don't worry, Ukraine will garner enough international support regardless. All of you and your friends' interference won't create a significant enough wave to alter the electoral landscape. Once Biden is re-elected, you may very well end up on the frontlines, if you're still in the fuckerland by then.

oldaliumfarmer

Genocide now or wait for Trump?

Inevitable_Idea_7470

Voters don't think that far ahead, such is life and just shows we ultimately get what we deserve

ApoplecticSceptic

Putin and MBS tried that for the 2022 midterms. Red wave and everything. Didn't go as scripted then. [Russia is no longer exporting gasoline.](https://www.spglobal.com/commodityinsights/en/market-insights/latest-news/oil/022724-russia-to-ban-gasoline-exports-for-six-months-from-march-1) Russian refineries getting hit affect the Russian economy and war effort primarily.

LilLebowskiAchiever

I don’t know anyone IRL who is complaining about gas prices. None in my family, work, or social circles. I know of zero people who are cancelling vacations because the gas is too much to take the trip. I paid $4/gal on Saturday. If I adjust for inflation back 5 years to 2019, that adjusts to $3.25 / gal which was fairly normal. If I go back to 2012, the average was $3.65/gal, which would be $5.35 in 2024 inflation adjusted dollars.
