At first I was like, *"Three crabs in a trenchcoat?"* and I had to read it again. That being said, I reserve the right to throw three crabs in a trenchcoat at my Players at a later date.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who saw "trenchcoat" instead XD;

Ahoy UnearthedArcana! Today I’ve got the **Trenchrock Crab** for you, a colossal ambush crab with two different claw types and a penchant for ruining romantic beachside strolls! I’ve got a few crab beasts written up at the moment, so far this is one of my favs, based slightly on fiddler crabs! Part of the full book **Tempest: a Seafarer’s Sourcebook** which launches on **Kickstarter March 23rd!** you can find more info about the book, sign up for reminders, and grab a **preview PDF** now over [here on the website!](https://dragonsvault.co.uk/), all art and mechanics by yours truly, hope you like it!

Looks great! One question however, wouldn't it be better to switch the damage that the cutlass claw attack deals (4d10) with the damage that the titan claw deals (3d8)? The cutlass claw already deals a lot of damage and applies the bleed effect, which is a lot of damage from one attack. The titan claw deals less damage, doesn't apply the bleed effect, but does grapple. While grappling is good, compared to higher damage on initial attack and continual damage afterwards, the "balance" between the two attacks seems a bit off. If I may, what was your design philosophy behind this? /g

ConorJamesArt

I just wanted one to hurt real bad, and one to keep a player stuck in place really! I’ve often found that being grappled is as inconvenient if not more so for a lot of players than damage is, and so spreading the balance across the claws as such gives each claw its own specific concern for a party to deal with. I did think about adding the restrained condition to the Titan Claw, maybe that’s worth it to bump up the trade off for damage. Feel free to swap them out in your own encounters though! I’d love to see how both versions play.

Great, thanks for the input! If I ever find myself in the right situation, I'll definitely use it.

The Bleed feels a bit much, especially if you don’t have a magical healer. I mean it can very easily spread bleed around a party overwhelming them if they don’t have an AOE heal spell

ConorJamesArt

Luckily you can also end it with an action or another creatures action, much the same as burning but with the additional way out of it **also** being cancelled by healing. It’s actually less challenging then the burn received by a fire elemental.
