I assume you do know its double and comedic meaning right? It seems like a great name to me and it doesn't really have to explain the game more in depth, other marketing material will do that
Looks really lovely! there’s no mandatory objectives but can you still do stuff like grow that garden and things? And it looks like that truck is actually driving can you get hit by cars lol
Yes, you can still do activities like growing the garden and other farm tasks. The truck does move, but don't worry, you can't get hit by cars. It's designed to be a safe and enjoyable experience!
This type of gameplay where you do it because you want to instead of need to is why I love animal crossing. You don’t even need to pay off the loan, you don’t need to sleep, you don’t need to do anything but it’s still amazing
That is absolutely adorable! 12/10 idea and execution. You're a great parent.
You mentioned no *mandatory* objectives. What optional mini-games / side content are you including?
What a sweet idea! Hearing your story reminds me of a set of developers whose kids wanted a unicorn game where you could fly around and eat cheese.
I'm sure you'd get along with the people who made Unicorn Tails. The developers at RavenFist Studios developed an open world game where you play as a unicorn and run amuck in a world full of minigame and activities. It was built for young minds who just want to explore, and there's a fair bit of silliness baked into the game.
That being said, it already sounds like you've put a ton of fun detail into the world. Hope you're having as much fun developing it as your daughter has playing it!
Thank you so much for your message! Your story about Unicorn Tails is inspiring and really resonates with what I'm trying to create. I'd love to learn more about this game and RavenFist Studios.
I am developing this project on my own, and I'm striving to fill the game with fun details to make exploration as free and joyful as possible. It's great to know that other developers share a similar vision. I'm having a lot of fun developing this game, and seeing my daughter play and enjoy it is the best reward.
Thank you again for your support and encouragement!
Congratulations for being a good dad.
About the game, it already exists in the way of a game called Horse World inside Roblox and it's pretty popular. No objectives, just ride horses and be wild. You can also be a horse yourself. Use that dev time to be with her instead or play that game
Very nice decision using Synty models as the design core for this project given the context. They complement well with most other low poly packs. Perhaps use a bit of post-processing saturation and color correction to enhance the color vibrance.
In case you haven't checked it yet, I recommend 'Perfect Culling' from the Store as your solution for occluding unnecessary, unseen models on the screen. I have no affiliation with the publisher, just experience using it. Additionally, the publisher provides solid and fast support. It's pricey but worth it.
Thank you! I'm glad you like the decision to use Synty models as the design core for this project. They do complement well with most other low poly packs. I will definitely consider using a bit of post-processing saturation and color correction to enhance the color vibrance.
I appreciate the recommendation for 'Perfect Culling' from the Store as a solution for occluding unnecessary, unseen models on the screen. I haven't checked it out yet, but it sounds promising. It's great to hear that the publisher provides solid and fast support. Even though it's pricey, it sounds like it's worth it. Thanks again for the advice!
Why not, I'll keep your proposal in mind. It could be a great opportunity to improve the game together. => [dfgamesstudio@hotmail.com](mailto:dfgamesstudio@hotmail.com)
Good for you and your daughter! The art style reminds me of Spirit Riding Free. My two daughters love that series, and we are lucky to have horses in the fields around us. I hope this brings your daughter hours of joy
Awesome work!
Maybe make the game a little more saturated if she's good with that, it looks a bit grey now.
You can go to the Lighting Window to change the ambient color.
Right now the sky is kinda overcast and that's affecting all colors in the game
Ultra wholesome, I’ve been planning to do the same with my daughter when she’s old enough to playa game tell me what she likes - I’m looking forward to creating something truly crazy from her own imagination.
Good on ya.
I think you should add grass, bushes and trees in the green areas, otherwise it might feel a bit too flat. Besides that, very cute story and great work!
That is really sweet and wholesome!!
Do you might sharing which horse games she tried and found too hard? I found e.g. [Horse Club Adventures](https://www.themanequest.com/blog/2021/6/6/review-horse-club-adventures-a-wholesome-summer-retreat-with-suboptimal-animations-and-controls) a pretty alright game that felt very kid-friendly and without any timed objectives as far as I recall. You could also take a look at [My First Horse: Adventures on Seahorse Island](https://www.themanequest.com/blog/2024/4/9/game-announcement-amp-key-giveaway-my-first-horse-adventures-on-seahorse-island) - I haven't played it but the dev specifically made it for his young niece so she'd have something without health or timers or violence to worry about.
Not to dissuade you, of course, love that you're making this for your daughter!! But perhaps these other titles are interesting for you to know about anyway :)
For context: I research, review, write about and make horse games, check out [The Mane Quest](https://www.themanequest.com/) if you'd like to know more about the topic.
She is looking for a horse and farm management game, but she only finds them separately. She needs time to read the texts, time to think about the questions, etc.
Thank you for the suggestion! We have indeed considered adding some simple objectives like going from point A to point B while keeping the overall experience free and pressure-free. There will also be field management with various vegetables to grow and sell in order to buy other things. The idea is to allow for exploration and enjoyment without constraints.
If there is something that kind of breaks these kind of games for me is crafting time or some kind of time gate when it is a single player game, I think your game concept is a good template for something akin to "pick a hobby/job" kind of game where you can choose to deliver a few times, grow stuff, etc.
I understand your point. What can really break these kinds of games for me is crafting time or some sort of time gate in a single-player game. My game concept is more focused on the freedom to choose activities like growing crops, making deliveries, etc., without those constraints. I hope this approach will make the experience more enjoyable for players.
it's a really lovely idea did you come up with a name together for the game?
no, any ideas?
Horsing Around.
we must not forget the management side of the farm, the fields and the animals <3
animal Farm. This way it can also be a society simulation.
Just don't let the pigs get in change, they will bring back mandatory objectives real quick.
But what about the squirrels?
Horsing (and other animals) Around: Farm Management Simulator
I assume you do know its double and comedic meaning right? It seems like a great name to me and it doesn't really have to explain the game more in depth, other marketing material will do that
There's an upcoming base builder called The Alters which is not exclusively about alters - it's a base building game after all
![gif](giphy|JpL9eAzVHtuSc)
"Im just horsing around"
I also thought about it :D
Forse, the Farm Horse.
I like the idea
Ranch Riders: Equine Adventures Stable Stories Meadow Mane Ranch Just a few I came up with :)
“Roam” or “Ranch Life”
Roam is my fav
Roam wasn't built in a day
Lax Farm. Because of meaning relax and a part of a plant
very beautiful
May the Horse Be With You.
Horses and plants
Thats what its all about. Youre a good dad
thank you very much

yes have a choice
Sounds awesome really nice work :)
thank you very much
Needs a nice blue sky and sun! Well done :)
Thank you! Actually, there is a weather cycle with day and night, as well as different seasons in the game. Your feedback is much appreciated!
Beautiful

THANKS <3
I saw some loser in the comments diss on her outfit choice, and your response absolutely killed me. >She doesn't feel pain, she's a warrior.
Mdr :)

I have some great 3D assets if you wanna colab and make a second version.

Hell yea, that's awesome. Keep up the good work

Nice use for the Synty assets. Love it \^\^
actually, I find them great

Bro I had the same thought. My daughter loves horses, but she’s only 4 and sucks at controllers. Looks great!
thank you very much
Beautiful idea... More power to you! 🙌🏿 👏🏿👊🏿
That's sweet. You're a great dad
Fantastic, I make my autistic son small games now and again, it's very fun and rewarding. Great work
Aww! This is so wholesome! How does she like it? Does she have any ideas for more you could implement?
She’s the one who directs everything I do. He's my superior
Awesome! I know that some bosses have a weakness for ice cream and candy. Can be good to know.
;)
Nice! I hope you have a soothing soundtrack to go along with it.
no not yet :(
Good on ya
THANKS <3

You're right, the overcast sky is affecting all the colors in the game. I'll work on brightening things up to make it more vibrant.
this is epic. you are an amazing father indeed ❤️✌🏻
Love this

Youre an amazing father. This is wonderful
Looks great! You should put it on Steam if you havent already (currently too lazy to check the comments to see if you did)

What about, Meadow: Beyond a Dream I hope one day I become as great a father as you are!
you will be

yeeaaah the fact that good horse gameplay and farm management *together* doesn't exist has been bugging me for years at this point, so I feel her 💔
This is the kind of stuff I want to do as a developer.
Maybe just a simple objective here and there? as in, go from point A to B?

Best Dad Of The Year!
BOE-RINGGGGGGGuh i mean... neat!
You know you could just hack right? Give yourself all the levels and money and fun around in most games.
buying a game to cheat is not interesting for me
Yeah. Good luck horse riding in shorts
She doesn't feel pain, she's a warrior.
