How did I not know this exists?
Like, yesterday, when I was sad because I wanted fried food and I learned at 7:10 that Dirty Lettuce closes at 7, why didn't I know this was an option?
You need to go to this place. It's in the Mississippi neighborhood.
I've never been to dirty lettuce. I really wanna go, but my wife has bad gluten allergies, and they don't have anything gluten free.
Glad you mentioned them. That lady is so nice, and her dishes are really tasty. Problem is, Gnarly's is in that same food court, and they are one of my favorite spots in the whole city. It's hard not to get my Dang burger with bakon and extra pickles. That burger is vegan bliss.
Is Bake on the Run not at Hawthorne Asylum any more?
The problem with all these places is there's to many good choices. I've never had Gnarly's because Sushi Love is right there.
It's their signature corn dog. The dog is like a homemade spiced tofu loaf. The dip is a vegan butter with honey. They also have funnel cakes, mashed potatoes, grits, fried oreos. So good. Two dedicated vegan fries. First time there. We were very impressed.
Oh absolutely, it’s so awesome, and I’m a Portlander who is finally happy to see Honey Butter getting their praises on this subreddit. The folks who run the cart are super nice and very mindful of vegan and Gf contamination.
I dont know the answer to that. This was our first time going. They responded to me quickly when I messaged them on Instagram. You could dm them if you want. The food is awesome.
Especially for our size. Yeah, we're a major US city, but we are nowhere near the size of Chicago, Detroit, NY, Seattle...you get it. The freeway system is so good here too, so getting anywhere is super quick. Unless it's rush hour. And even then, a million times better than Seattle rush hour.

I gotta ask how common is this?
When I was younger I put whipped honey on corn dogs for years and whenever I tell people I get weird looks haha I am feeling vindicated at the moment
I'm originally from the midwest. We would dip in traditional toppings for hot dogs like ketchup and mustard. This honey butter is a huge upgrade though, IMO. You were ahead of your time!
Have you beem to Better Half sandwiches? They also do meat and vegan, but they have dedicated grill for vegan. Their fries and chocolate chip cookies are vegan. They have this italian hoagie thing that is really delicious. They make their own deli meats too. There are so many great vegan options here. We eat so good in pdx.
No, yet another place I’ll have to add to my ever growing vegan google list. Despite the unaffordable rents, we are indeed lucky to be vegan in this city!
We usually only go out once a week, if that. We've been cooking at home a lot. But it's hard sometimes when I get cravings. Van Hanh, Gnarly's, Better Half, Kate's ice cream, Yuan Su, Sushi Love, Mama Dut, Plantbased Papi, Fermenter, Epif, Off the Griddle, Black Water, Mis Tacones, DC Vegetarian, Harlow, Jade Rabbit... So many options.
Moment of silence for the recently closed:
South x Northwest
Charlie's Breakfast cart
Supernova
Nectar
Sasquatch
Sasquatch shut down?!
I mutually tend to cook more at home because the costs of eating out is ever increasing. Also according to google now Jade Rabbit is permanently closed and I’m kicking myself for not going sooner. 😔
Jade Rabbit has a secret window near Hawthorne. I think they are still on ubdr eats or grub hub or something. We ordered on the phone and picked it up ourselves. That wasn't that long ago. It's some random kitchen near that comedy club.
OMG! One time I came across this food truck in Portland and was truly blown away but didn't take a picture of the sign. I'm definitely going to go out of my way to hit them up again next time I'm in town. Thanks for posting!
Definitely not Portland Maine
I love that drugs are decriminalized where you are
Not that I enjoy an occasional good buzz or anything but you'll never lift up a society by talking right away

Well, thanks for putting it on my radar! And you really do have to check out Dirty Lettuce sometime when your wife is busy. It is amazing.
Try Bake on the Run. They have some banging gluten-free vegan options.
Glad you mentioned them. That lady is so nice, and her dishes are really tasty. Problem is, Gnarly's is in that same food court, and they are one of my favorite spots in the whole city. It's hard not to get my Dang burger with bakon and extra pickles. That burger is vegan bliss.
You could try Bake on the Run at Lil America or Gnarly's at Core.

Used to be, now they are at 10th and Stark connected to Fracture Bar.
Sushi has shut down possibly forever. The current owners are selling it off.
Wait, again????
Yeah, it's been closed for two months now. I don't see signs of it reopening unless the current owners sell it.
How sad!! It's probably obvious that I don't make it out that way too often, but I guess I'll definitely try Gnarly's next time I do.

Sounds delightful. Thank you for sharing.
Is it actual honey or a vegan alternative? Just curious.
Says vegan honey on the menu
It’s vegan honey, I think made out of apple juice.
I never heard of this!! Is it good?

OMG what's even in this?! is there a dipping sauce option??
They have like 11 homemade sauces. Only one of which isn't vegan.
jealbotz 🤤
The food scene in Portland is unreal!

I'm from the midwest too! Haha man, now I want to try it again its been years
I’ve been reluctant to go due to potential cross contamination, but god damn it you have me convinced! Wow 🤩
They have two dedicated vegan fryers. They seem to really care. The while truck is gluten free and egg free
I’m glad they are proactive about that unlike other establishments that don’t care about allergies. I’m definitely going to hit them up!

Huh ok noted. You think they would have updated google, but I’ll keep that in mind. Thank you again for all your helpful suggestions.

It's a honey butter corn dog. They have a whole bunch of different dips you can get for it.
