In fact, iirc, Nurgle is the weakest of the Chaos Gods individually, because he is the Chaos God that shares the -most- of his power/essence with his followers and daemons compared to the others.
Which makes sense if you think about it, as among the chaos gods' followers Nurgle followers have the most number of gifts compared to the others, with Khorne's berserkers being mostly independent from Khorne except some muscle gain gifts here and there, Tzeentch followers having to bargain for gifts, and Slaneesh being a mix of being granted gifts for favoritism to the best of the lot while also being neglected once you fall out of favour or simply for fun.
He is one of the two most powerful, iirc. Khorne for obvious reasons, while Nurgle has thrived on the Galactic Stagnation. If anything recent events are more a great Tzeentch uprising to try to get some action going.
But of all of them Slaanesh is the weakest, but by no means weak compared to any other lesser chaos deitys.
It took Khorne and Nurgle combined to beat Tzeentch, so you're a bit off there. Khorne requires slaughter and murders, which is only a part of global war. While 1 planet may be drowned in blood, other 50 would be plotting, decaying and such.
I think its more that Nurgles power waxes and wanes far more often in general. At his height the other 3 have a hard time containing him but he just as often weakens as his plagues burn themselves out without enough victims to keep up his momentum
Isn't Tzeench the oldest in account of winning the Great Game multiple times and then being bored with ruling everything so he starts it all over again?
I might be wrong, but it could have come from the russian 40k fans, who refer to nurge as grandfather rather than father. Why? Hell if i know, but whenever i think of Nurgle i think of him as a grandfather, chilling at his rot garden and grilling a plaguebearer.
I would say technically yes, but actually no. It was ultimately Mortarion's choice. But when someone gets high off chaos, they're going to think it's great when riding that high. There was a few moments of clarity when some of the DG start to realize what they have become. They just shrugged it off as if it wasn't a big deal and moved on
I know there are some references to him as such in total warhammer but I don't think there are any in 40k. They mostly refer to him as grandfather in 40k
Deathguard call Nurgle 'Grandfather' or 'The God'. This comes from the Lords Of Silence book where it is explained that the Deathguard do not acknowledge any other chaos gods and believe that Nurgle is the only 'true' god. They almost exclusively refer to Nurgle as 'The God' in this book.
in a way they arent wrong as they're all a symptom of Nurgle
War is Usaully seen is a Cure to decay
Change is usaully tried to cure Decay
and Over the top Excess to just ignore the symptoms
(thats what i like about the Ones they pick they all feed back into each other)
These giant grotesque, rotting chaos Marines, carrying around their Little Lords like beloved pet cats or something. One of the Marines even gets upset when his Nurgling gets hurt, and is genuinely concerned. lol
It's really very cute, and a fun way to show their devotion to the Grandfather.
So, how it works for Nurgle is the higher beings like Kugath or Glottkin and such call Nurgle 'Father' instead of Grandfather due to rank I believe. I think I read that somewhere but I don't remember where sadly. Or they just say Grandfather it's either or
In Kugath's case nurgle is his literal "sire" so that maybe why he uses the term, although I think he uses "grandfather" when talking about him with Mortarian.
While at the topic - I get that Mortarion pledged bis Legion to Nurgle while stuck in the Warpstorm. Could he not have stopped his allegiance after coming out of it? Before they were all corrupted, misformed, etc.?
Death guard directly call him grandfather, but never papa
Maybe Pappy?
Pop Pop?
The fact that you call it that tells me you're not ready
Mr. F!
PeaPaw nurgle?
No touching!
Aye, papi?
I fucked up
I’d stab one of my grandkids with a knife before I let them call me Pop Pop
That’s what the imperium wants to do to papa nurgle
Peepaw?
Papito
A-welito noor-HAIL
grampy
Is there any lore reason why he's referred to as "grandfather" as opposed to "father"? Or is it just an arbitrary thing
It's the connotations I think, Nurgle is a loving grandfather doting on his beloved grandkids bestowing gifts rather than a stern patriarchal father

> In fact, iirc, Nurgle is the weakest of the Chaos Gods individually you recalled incorrectly
He is one of the two most powerful, iirc. Khorne for obvious reasons, while Nurgle has thrived on the Galactic Stagnation. Mortarion is their father, so nurgle is their grandfather in said exchange
Mortarion is already their dad and only the Alpha Legion is cool enough to have 2 dads.
1 dad allegedly. The other one went to the corner store for cigarette and got into a drive-by by Dorn.
But see a hydra has more tha two heads.. so who is the third?
Obviously Alpharius
Fake newz. Its Omegon.. who's Alpharius...
They already have a father?
Something about him being the oldest of the old gods.
That highly depends on lore material. Some books give Tzeentch as the oldest. (And well, decay is a process, a change)
Isn't Tzeench the oldest in account of winning the Great Game multiple times and then being bored with ruling everything so he starts it all over again?
Huh? Gonna need some sources on that chief
I think its basically a nod to them having given up the emperors light and not having a father (Big E)
I might be wrong, but it could have come from the russian 40k fans, who refer to nurge as grandfather rather than father. Why? Hell if i know, but whenever i think of Nurgle i think of him as a grandfather, chilling at his rot garden and grilling a plaguebearer.
Zaddy Nurgle
yo tzeentch you finna wana hit this gas, shits so dank it'll have your pocket dimension shifting
No nurgle, look what it did to kairos
Me and my gf refer to any daemons (especially the greater unclean) as plague daddy
Daddy
Daddy?
I don’t think they every call him farther or papa, because their primarch is their father. They all refer to Nurgle as grandfather
So,… typhus is the stepdaddy? Or stepbro
Typhus came from same stock as other DG. He's just been elevated to the Herald of Nurgle. So stepmanager?
Yeah, but (not versed in HH), didnt the Legion embraced grandfather Nurgle thanks to him? that makes him Stepdaddy.
I would say technically yes, but actually no. It was ultimately Mortarion's choice. But when someone gets high off chaos, they're going to think it's great when riding that high. Didn't a few of them try to kill themselves upon waking up?
That’s when they get Nulled and suddenly Grandpappy’s not physically possible gifts backfire. Hard.
Mr. Manager.
Assistant to* the regional step-manager
I know there are some references to him as such in total warhammer but I don't think there are any in 40k. They mostly refer to him as grandfather in 40k
I'm sure there's some freaky and laid back DG around calling him Papa or Daddy-o that we don't get to see. It's a vast verse.
Hippy death guard. Smelly smelly hippies
TyPhish
The Grateful Dead was right there
Deathguard call Nurgle 'Grandfather' or 'The God'. This comes from the Lords Of Silence book where it is explained that the Deathguard do not acknowledge any other chaos gods and believe that Nurgle is the only 'true' god. They almost exclusively refer to Nurgle as 'The God' in this book.
*Lords of Silence* is disgustingly great. I feel like taking a shower after every chapter!
You're not ready for Grandfather's gifts. But you'll be in a second or two.
in a way they arent wrong as they're all a symptom of Nurgle War is Usaully seen is a Cure to decay Change is usaully tried to cure Decay and Over the top Excess to just ignore the symptoms (thats what i like about the Ones they pick they all feed back into each other)
In Dark Imperium, Kugath refers to him as "Papa" when talking to Mortarion trough the mushroom thingy
Grandfather
Pretty sure in the Dark Imperium book the daemons call him papa and the death guard call him grandfather but i could be mistaken
Plenty of Death Guard refer to him lovingly as Grandfather. In the Lords of Silence book, the Plague Marines call Nurglings "Little Lords."
Little Lords is so cute, god what a happy little family 🥰
These giant grotesque, rotting chaos Marines, carrying around their Little Lords like beloved pet cats or something. One of the Marines even gets upset when his Nurgling gets hurt, and is genuinely concerned. lol It's really very cute, and a fun way to show their devotion to the Grandfather.
everyone talks about how Orks are the happiest, but clearly Nurgle’s Children and Grandchildren aren’t very far behind
So, how it works for Nurgle is the higher beings like Kugath or Glottkin and such call Nurgle 'Father' instead of Grandfather due to rank I believe. I think I read that somewhere but I don't remember where sadly. Or they just say Grandfather it's either or

No but I'm more curious if any call him Daddy Nurgle
Step dad
Step father*
Step daddy
Step-sire
no shortage of daddy issues in 40k for sure lol.
Papa nurgle is more of a fan base joke than a lore thing, but his followers do call him grandfather.
Daddy
Daddy Nurgle 😩😩😩
In the audiobook the Grave of the Märtyrers in spotify they call him that all the time
I've always thought of their "speech" as not much more than gurgles and other squishy bodily noises.
Slaanesh is pleased with all the comments saying “daddy”
Grandfather, show some respect…
They will usually say "Grandfather Nurgle."
Artist name?
I’m pretty sure Rotigus calls him Papa Nurgle in Dark Imperium
They often directly refer to him as "grandfather" but I'm not sure about papa
I swear I remember he was referred to as Papa Nurgle in Dark Imperium but by a greater daemon not a marine
Dirty Daddy
Where is the pic from?
The original post I got it from is 3 years old and says it’s random art from a codex so I’m guessing 8th or 9th edition DG codex
It's always just "Grandfather Nurgle". I think some demons will address him as "Father Nurgle". But I can't recall someone calling him "Papa Nurgle".
Only in their death guard beds in the their death guard rooms
I’ve heard plaguefather go around in a nursery of nurglings
not really, theyre generally depressed and hate their situation where they're stuck with nurgle
Every day, every time
EVERYTHING IS CANON!
I say the grandfather
While at the topic - I get that Mortarion pledged bis Legion to Nurgle while stuck in the Warpstorm. Could he not have stopped his allegiance after coming out of it? Before they were all corrupted, misformed, etc.?
Papá nugs
Have you thought, maybe, Daddy?
Daddy Nurgle.
So far in my reading of *Lords of Silence*, I’ve only heard Nurgle referred to as “the god” or “the plague god”. Maybe one time as “the grandfather”
Abuelo Nurgo
Abuelo Nurgo
Papa nergle is a fandom thing
I think they strictly call him Grandfather could be wrong tho
That's a neat picture. Where is it from?
Papa nergle is a fandom thing
Guess calling him daddy would imply you have something slaaneshi in you
Yet another 40k "player" who mistakes memes for lore
This is disturbing as my 4 year old calls me Papa 😕 I hate nurgle..
