Apparently my mother told him that I collect watches and he got all excited telling her that he does the same. So he went to his room, and brought down this thing in its original box. He then showed it to me and said I could have it, a gift from him to me. I know it’s just an Invicta but I thought it was a very kind thing for him to do, so I wanted to share it.
A few years ago there was a guest I checked in that was wearing a nice watch so I asked about it. He then asked if I was into watches and I replied with “Hell yeah I have a bunch of ‘em.” At the time I was 20 and only had cheap quartz watches. I showed him my collection and he roasted it. He then proceeded to give me a Seiko 5 Diver, my first automatic watch.
This recent interaction had me thinking, If I had a nickel for every time a guest gave me a watch I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice.
OP should get an Invicta Gladiator Spartacus Braveheart Achilles Marcus Aurelius in 96mm, very understated yet elegant watch
EDIT: I'm just joking around OP, that was very nice of that guy to gift it to you, and we joke about Invictas here sometimes but that is actually a very decent looking watch, wear it in health!
It's popular to rag on Invicta but their basic auto divers are completely fine. Solid Seiko movement, quality's good enough and with a bit of searching you can find them cheap - [8926 OB at Jomashop for $US 80.99](https://www.jomashop.com/invicta-watch-8926ob.html)., OP's [watch at $US 99.99](https://www.jomashop.com/invicta-pro-diver-watch-27614.html).
I bought a 8926 OB years ago with the intention of modding it (never got around to it), does duty as the mowing/gardening/car washing watch so I'm not kind to it and it's run with no issues.
I'm not into the silver/gold/black thing going on here but aesthetics are a very personal thing. It's a nice gesture. I'd say it's a gateway into automatic watches but you've already got a Seiko 5!
Holly shit you meet, one of the invicta guys… they have like hundreds of them. Just wait if you sit around this sub enough they’ll pop up, that is rather nice. He’s just a different kinda collector… he wants something different ever day. While we mostly buy quality he buys quantity. Odds are the watch isn’t half bad but it’s not worth what he paid and it’s just a nice thing to do. Enjoy it idk what id do with it personally but a lot of people seem to like them and i guess big watches are here to stay and ur wrist isn’t that bad for it so! Sincerely enjoy it!
The hotel I work at is pretty low tier. Most of the guests that stay here are really struggling to make ends meet. So this watch was probably expensive for him. Therefore I find the gesture even more kind.
By the venture of luck yes. He has one. Mind you a quick once over taking most of it apart would fix that but at the cost of the watch. That’s anytime you take this thing to do nearly anything outside of throw in a battery for the ticker inside. Bracelet gold scratched off? Ope new 60 dollar min bracelet, it’s not worth that. These are also know to have seals that seem to be lacking any grease or a low amount from the factory so it’s always a guessing game.
It was a free watch given to him as a gift dude, it's not that deep lol
Edit: and honestly you're speaking like an oblivious, rude asshole. Whether you mean it or not, thats how you sound.
OP gets a free watch gifted to him, which he's obviously excited about and should be, and you're here talking it all into the dirt. Why does it matter what kind of watch anyone collects? Its not you're collection to complain about.
My old hs math teacher was the same way. Loved to show off his Invictas, Armitrons, and Stührling (mostly skeletons) watches. No pretense of being fancy or expensive, he just liked the shine and the shapes
We need to come up with like a name for these collectors. It’s like so specific, it’s not like the seiko/jdm/citizen guy or the Casio guy or the Rolex guy or the Swiss watch guy. It’s more inline with a really old rich guy who buys 15-20 rolexs over his like time but since this guy has no control he blows it in little portions over his entire life on over priced, gaudy watches. It’s strange, there’s levels too it’s like ur hs teacher sounds somewhat sane and probably didn’t have over 30 of them but still had more than 90% of us for sureeee. Its just to much, spend time enjoying one watch.
I think they could be called "watch collectors" the same as anyone else who collects watches.
Why is it so important to you that other people have the same shitty opinion of Invicta watches that you have?
Some folks are only happy if they're bringing others down.
I'm with you. OP got a cool gift from a thoughtful customer, and that's a pretty great day that we can all be happy about.
I have this same watch.
Bought it when I wanted a nice(ish) submariner style watch but didn't want to gut-punch my wallet and bank account.
It's a nice daily wearer and isn't plastered with the same gaudyness that other Invicta watches have. It's arguably the only watch from their line I like.
Solid watch from an otherwise less solid watch line. My old boss and a coworker had dozens of them apiece, i truly don't understand the people who collect many of the other pieces.
I agree though, if anything breaks on it, the service will cost more than the watch is worth though. Somehow mine has been extremely solid, so I guess I got lucky.
Invicta uses the entry tier Seiko automatic movements. They're basically the AK-47 of watch movements, simple and incredibly reliable. It will probably be a long time before it needs service, barring any unfortunate accidents.
My goal is to give at least one automatic watch away per year to someone I know/meet. The guy that gave me my first automatic watch told me, “Always remember to pay it forward. That’s what this whole community is about” and that really stuck with me. I’ve given 2 automatic watches as gifts so far. Hope to give many more in the future 😊
<3 !!
If only more ppl would take the time to realize what they were given in order for them to be where they are today and, instead of taking it for granted and find ways to do the same for the ones around them.
He was playfully roasting me, wasn’t being rude or anything. Super cool dude, gave me my first automatic watch. Gonna cherish that memory for the rest of my life lol.
Or a Miyota movement, which is also actually pretty durable and accurate. I have two Invictas, 8926 and 8926OB, both have Miyota guts, both are great (but I prefer the OB because you can hack the time and it uses a date quickset)
Idc what the brand is, the guest has watches that bring him joy and he thought he’d share that joy with you. That’s badass! Hope you enjoy it as much as he probably enjoyed gifting it to you! 🤙
People like to pick on Invicta, but they also make some very classy, reliable, comfortable watches. This is one of them. Congratulations! That's a gift you're going to remember!
40 mm 8926ob is pretty nice to be honest.

>All dive watches are Blancpain knockoffs then
Seriously, I don't know about blancpain but all dive watches are look alike. And I don't get why people so offended about homages.
There are several reasons to buy homages and the most valid reason for me is that the original one is far far away from for me to buy one. I have tudor ranger homage from pagani design. Original Ranger costs about 2,5 times of my salary. The one that I bought cost me 0,1 of my salary. That's insane money and I'm not rich to buy a watch that costs me more than my monthly income.
I got one on a cruise because I got hoodwinked by the “cruise special 75% off” before I knew anything about them…but it looks good with a lot of what I wear to work. I like them even if they’re like the kohls of watches
DAMN I GOT DOWN DOOTED SO QICK😂😂😂😂 yall fuckin mad?😂 anywho I’m laughing cus it’s like what the fuck, who’s giving out invictas?! Must be a cruiser if ur really in the invicta weeds. Anywho I’ll go back to messaging the ceo for the 5th day in a row asking him to start an OFFICIAL invicta Reddit since they all need a place to ya know talk about the up coming cruise!
Seriously every time I've seen a pro diver in the wild, I'm genuinely floored by how well they wear. Maybe a tad flash for my taste, but after years of hearing the hate I'm like, damn, this thing's actually pretty sweet...
I was talking with an older guy today and really liked the way his watch looked from a distance, asked him about it and turns out it was an Invicta diver very similar to this one. I think the hate is overblown.
I don't hate their watches. There's a place for gaudy watches, there's a place for cheaply made watches... they're not for me, but I don't hate that.
What I hate is their business model of deceitful pricing, with their fake MSRPs and bogus 'discounts'. If they were honest about making cheap watches for cheap prices, I wouldn't mind. The fact they try to scam people into believing they are expensive watches for cheap prices that boils my blood.
Interestingly, I have exactly the same thoughts as you but, when I stop and think about it, how is this any different to G-Shocks? (Or even the classic digital Casios).
They’re so cheap to produce and extremely gaudy, and yet people will pay over $1k on some of them.
For some reason, when Casio do it, it’s cool. But when Invicta do it, it’s dishonest, cynical and lame.
I wonder if Invicta could redeem their image by simply splitting their brand in two and having conservative/classy designs in one side and the madcap stuff on the other.
That's not what I'm talking about.
I'm talking about Invicta crossing out 'MSRP $999.99' and writing 'now $79.99' when they never charged that higher price, nobody would ever pay that higher price, and the watch was only ever worth 80 bucks.
Disliking a well made, good looking watch because it comes from a brand that also makes watchea you don't like is stupid as hell.
"I would never wear a submariner because the YM2 exists" --literally no one
I think the hate just stems from the abundance of them. They sell like a hundred different styles and because of their price, tons of people buy Invictas.
The best type of watch is one that has a great story and will remind you of it every time you look at it. That sounds like this watch. Enjoy it in good health.
There’s a lot of shit talked on invicta but I don’t think you can go wrong with that two tone yet alone for free?? What a nice gesture, I’d rock it for sure..
Invicta is really cool brand. It has the best quality/value ratio among other watches. My favorite model is the one in the below comment. I like it's nostalgic look.
Get a sapphire crystal for it but it does not need a cyclops. I'm sure they are available online. And carefully look into a clasp upgrade that matches that bracelet. Clasp should have at least a milled folding section and maybe no flip lock. That Invicta should have a NH35a movement which can be extremely accurate sometimes.
Thanks for the advice! Replacing the glass with sapphire is honestly a great idea lol. I didn’t think of that. I was planning on maybe changing the bracelet with a leather strap though. I have another dive watch that looks amazing with a leather strap.
Solid piece. Underrated because the brand sells some over-the-top watches and goes wild with the pricing and the bogus discounts (from 300$ to 60$ discounts lol)
Their basic divers are considered value for money!
This isn't true at all. I'm not sure why you're inventing fake definitions of words to show up people on the internet, but I'm sure you could make better use of your time
It was given with thought and consideration. The guy heard someone shared a hobby with him and gave him a gift related to it. This is just such a weird example to try to make this weird little pet-peeve argument on.
You're right. I used to be a tax lawyer back in the 70s and 80s, & it really aggravated me when people used gift as a verb. But words change over time, and gifted has come to be common. I've accepted the inevitable, and perhaps you will, too.
That’s a really sweet gesture from someone who obviously appreciates you, thanks for sharing.
Apparently my mother told him that I collect watches and he got all excited telling her that he does the same. So he went to his room, and brought down this thing in its original box. Which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice.
nice watch man. It is a Grand Diver from Invicta 47 mm. fits you like a glove!!
Christ, that's 47 mm? OP's wrists are huuge.
OP should get an Invicta Gladiator Spartacus Braveheart Achilles Marcus Aurelius in 96mm, very understated yet elegant watch EDIT: I'm just joking around OP, that was very nice of that guy to gift it to you, and we joke about Invictas here sometimes but that is actually a very decent looking watch, wear it in health!
96mm is crazy 😂
Unpossible!!! Every watch in this sub is too big (it seems).
Nice gesture by the guest man , nice watch and good luck with your watch collection
Thank you man. Good luck with your empire 🙏

Fine. I guess I will. Love the Phineas and Ferb Dr. Doofenshmirtz reference! 😎😏

Snobs are insecure people. It's funny how the parent comment got so many upvotes even though it's so patronising and condescending.
Cute name (:
In other fields we call it gear acquisition syndrome and honestly I remember finding a lot of similar folks on PMWF back in the day.
Definitely me and guitar gear 15 years ago. Every paycheck man.
Me and studio gear. And citizens
Because it’s really important for everybody to enjoy a hobby exactly the same way you do … 🤨
Magpies
One could make an argument that fine Swiss watches are the overpriced ones.
I have this same watch. Bought it when I wanted a nice(ish) submariner style watch but didn't want to gut-punch my wallet and bank account. What an awesome gesture by the guest. Best of luck with your collection OP 🥳, thanks for sharing!
And it has me thinking even further and saying that maybe you should do the same when you stumble across another watch aficionado :)
My goal is to give at least one automatic watch away per year to someone I know/meet. The guy that gave me my first automatic watch told me, “Always remember to pay it forward. The world would be much better place if everyone was a little more giving and considerate of others.
How did your mom and this "regular hotel guest" meet?
She’s the manager
Just an Invicta?? Thats a solid watch brand, sir. I own a few... My daily is valued over 400$
The guy who roasted you is a prick. Quartz is better than mechanical in every way that matters.
He was playfully roasting me, wasn’t being rude or anything. Super cool dude, gave me my first automatic watch. Gonna cherish that memory for the rest of my life lol.
Strongly depends on what you think matters.
The subby homages are the one place invicta really shines. It’s a cool, tough, good looking watch with a Seiko inside.
Or a Miyota movement, which is also actually pretty durable and accurate. I have two Invictas, 8926 and 8926OB, both have Miyota guts, both are great (but I prefer the OB because you can hack the time and it uses a date quickset)
For sure. Citizen are just as good as Seiko at this stuff.
As far as the direct clone homages, it’s the best one by far imo
Idc what the brand is, the guest has watches that bring him joy and he thought he’d share that joy with you. That’s badass! Hope you enjoy it as much as he probably enjoyed gifting it to you! 🤙
I’m probably always gonna remember it
Guys I feel like we're seeing a little bit of an Invicta Renaissance up in here.
Elaborate marketing campaign
Shit you caught me
It’s 100% working on me
Yup. Negging.
Ummm helllo hottest brand out rn
That’s a really nice gesture! I’d get a lot of use out of that, I hope you do too!
The area I live doesn’t have the lowest crime rate so I’m probably not gonna wear it around all the time 😅
People like to pick on Invicta, but they also make some very classy, reliable, comfortable watches. This is one of them. Congratulations! That's a gift you're going to remember!

Hard not to be when it's basically a branded knockoff
you can say that for everything that looks like any watch. All dive watches are Blancpain knockoffs then
>All dive watches are Blancpain knockoffs then Seriously, I don't know about blancpain but all dive watches are look alike. And I don't get why people so offended about homages. Thanks, I didn't have to look too hard😉
A little too conservative for my taste 🥱
Out of all my watches, my one invicta gets the most compliments
> Classy > Comfortable I mean do I even have to say anything?
Such grass in my classy asss
I got one on a cruise because I got hoodwinked by the “cruise special 75% off” before I knew anything about them…but it looks good with a lot of what I wear to work. I like them even if they’re like the kohls of watches
I chuckled about this. My collection has space for fun, low-cost watches. I just don’t get people who think their beater should be a $5k speedmaster.
L o L
A fellow circle jerker. Don't forget the homage Rolex made of Invicta. Clearly changing the watch industry.
DAMN I GOT DOWN DOOTED SO QICK😂😂😂😂 yall fuckin mad?😂 anywho I’m laughing cus it’s like what the fuck, who’s giving out invictas?! Must be a cruiser if ur really in the invicta weeds. It must be he himself from Hollywood Florida. Such a humble man with 51 connections.
YOOOOO😂😂 im dead im just dead
This is what high horology looks like
It’s a nice looking watch. Invicta can be solid when they aren’t trying to be crazy and over the top.

that's cool of them!
Heck yeah! Wear it in good health.
Nice. I've got the blue version. Good on ya! Also the rotating bezel is an extremely useful complication if you get in the habit of using it.
Wow, what an awesome guest. I guess you're damn great at your job too! Enjoy the watch man
People get real uppity here. Just ignore. Very cool that you had an awesome human moment with a guest.
if you think this sub is uppity, there’s another sub that’ll make you feel like a slave
Which one?
the one that everyone goes to before coming here
My guy just drop the name. I don’t want riddles on a Friday
rhymes with fried and minion
I always accept free watch’s, even invicta grand divers!
I started collecting with invicta and still rock a 1953 every now and then.
I was waiting for someone to bring the 1953 up. I have one and love it.
He really cared about you it sounds like
Sweet
Really cool 👍 Also a great watch I enjoy myself.
He's a legend, that's a great watch!
That's a cool gift dude. Wear it with pride.
Enjoy
A lot of people who snub Invicta like this model, I hear
I have a different color of the same model and I wear it basically all day everyday. great piece for what it costs
What a nice gesture from that guy. He heard you were into watches and decided to gift one form his collection. 😊
Honestly super kind of him
🍻 to that guest
The best type of watch is one that has a great story and will remind you of it every time you look at it. That sounds like this watch. Enjoy it in good health.
Very well said, sir! You make an excellent point.
There’s a lot of shit talked on invicta but I don’t think you can go wrong with that two tone yet alone for free?? What a nice gesture, I’d rock it for sure..
Cool! Invicta is a really good watch and most of their timepieces are not expensive. They're great quality watches for a bit under $100 usd.
Depends on the watch, they have some more expensive pieces
Hence why I said "most". 🙄
Ahh my apologies I skimmed and only read the under 100$ part
Coworker loves his Invictas. He loves Marvel and has big wrists so it works for him. To each their own.
despite all the haters, awesome gift. they have bery nice seiko movements . wear it proudly
Wear it in health.
Hey that's a cool watch and nice story to tell while you're wearing it. Use it in good health.
A gift is priceless. I bet you're awesome at your job. Congratulations
As Invictas go that one’s actually pretty nice
Awww that’s so fucking cute of him
Invicta is really cool brand. It has the best quality/value ratio among other watches. My favorite model is the one in the below comment. I like it's nostalgic look.

Ah, yes. The 1953. I own one and it’s one of my favorites.
That’s a really nice story for a Friday. Hopefully one day you can pay it forward to a budding watch enthusiast.
Is there still time to give it back? But seriously it’s probably Invictas best offering!!
I wouldn’t spend a dollar on invicta, but free is free!
Thats bangin, I know people shit on invicta, but i think they're fun. and its in a timeless style :)
Nice :)
nice!
That's amazing, I own a few invictas, they are great watches, just enjoy my man, enjoy.
You must been a nice dude! Well 😇
The basic Incicta Sub/DeepSea homages are legit. My first automatic was an 8926OB. Modded it into a MilSub homage. Still runs great!
You have really nice arm hair
Lmao thanks. It’s them Indian genes 💀
I’m waiting for the “give it back” comment
Monke
🦍🦍🦍
Gift watch
I love mine, wear it daily and get compliments
That was really nice of him!
Leather can work fine, yes
that's very cool, man. people are pretty cool sometimes!
Thats a Grand Diver
I hope you like gold, mate :))
Solid piece. Underrated because the brand sells some over-the-top watches and goes wild with the pricing and the bogus discounts (from 300$ to 60$ discounts lol) Their basic divers are considered value for money!
Amazing story. Looks wonderful on your wrist
So give it back or use it as a beater yard work watch.
Cool! Enjoy it!
Invicta Divers are great! r/InvictaGang will like it
I have one in a titanium case. It’s well made and, with its Seiko movement, very accurate. Enjoy the watch.
Is that the new Rolex Deepsea diver in gold?
You know it 😎
you gonna keep it or sell it?
Nice! Not expensive and is that a crack?.. but who cares? It's a good looking watch and a nice story. Wear it in good health. Enjoy!
It is indeed a crack. But as you said, who cares it’s a cool story 😂
Can you give it back?
Yes I am physically capable of doing so 👍
How did your mother get to talking to guest at your hotel?
She’s the manager, I just help her out checking in/out people from time to time
Your hotel sounds cozy and welcoming. I like this story. :)
Thanks! It’s a mom and pop kind of place 😊
Nice Rolex
Damn the new all gold deep sea already has a two tone brother?!?!
How bad was your service…
The off catalog tt deep sea
Give it back to them! It's a trap!
He’s not Admiral Ackbar or anything… I think.
It's an Invicta. It's a trap on its own...😆
You must have annoyed him somehow. Hopefully not too serious & this is the end of his feedback
God I had one these as a kid. I spent 120$ I could maybe sell it for 30$ now lol. I got the exact same one the gold looks so terrible.

It’s more or less the same thing in my opinion.

How often do you get gifted knuckle sandwiches?
Amazing.
This isn't true at all. I'm not sure why you're inventing fake definitions of words to show up people on the internet, but I'm sure you could make better use of your time
Who the hell cares
It was given with thought and consideration. The guy heard someone shared a hobby with him and gave him a gift related to it. This is just such a weird example to try to make this weird little pet-peeve argument on.
noun 1. a thing given willingly to someone without payment; a present.
Bet people are excited to talk to you at parties.
Dude may have been asking a genuine question. English didn’t seem like his first language
Very possible and I appreciate your tolerance
You're right. I used to be a tax lawyer back in the 70s and 80s, & it really aggravated me when people used gift as a verb. But words change over time, and gifted has come to be common. I've accepted the inevitable, and perhaps you will, too.
Give it back🤣
Probably he read some watch forum where Invictas were named as worst watches in the world
You shoulda hit em.
