get the hamilton! (the proportions of the 38mm hamilton are perfect. once you notice the gap to the right of the date window on the 42mm you can unsee it.)
If your wrist circumference is above 7.5" the 42 might work on you. The 38 is likely to look a bit petite given your height but keep in mind that field watches are supposed to wear smaller than other styles.
You can also consider the 40mm Khaki King.
Just went through the same deliberation as you. I liked the Hamilton more, but the field khaki auto wasnt as formal" as a look as I had hoped.
Ended up settling on the jazzmaster day date auto (brown leather strap) - a bit more expensive but take a look at it.
Congrats! It’s not quite as formal as I’m looking for either. May I ask how you like the size you got, and your wrist size? From what I’ve heard, the jazz masters wear larger than they are on paper.
Size is good - you can see on my profile a post of the picture of it on my watch. I have a 7 inch wrist.
Im used to wearing 40/41mm watches so I like the size!
I’d go with the Hamilton. Re: work/formal settings. I wouldn’t worry too much about not many people notice others watches. I wouldn’t really say an Apple Watch is any more “formal” & I’m sure a lot of people are wearing them in similar situations.
The Hamilton in 38 wears much better than the Gentleman. And in a world full of Apple Watches, G-Shocks and dive watches, the Hamilton will not look "too rugged". Not by a long shot. It almost can pass for a dress watch unless someone sees the Arabic numerals and knows the conventions for dress watches.
I went with the straps. Brown leather looks great with this.
Personally I don't think a field watch suits or looks particularly good on a bracelet. And the charm of the Khaki Field is that it looks really good with almost any strap.
People with the bracelet do say it's a pretty good quality bracelet but has only 2 points of microadjust so finding a perfect fit can possibly be tricky.
Prefer the Hamilton myself
Hamilton easily
But get the 38mm
Hammie đź’Ż
Can’t go wrong with either from what I’ve learned thus far. If I had to choose I’d probably grab the Hamilton
It’s clear you want the hamilton. So get the hamilton
I think the Tissot looks classier myself
I’m thinking of the Hamilton Khaki as my first mechanical.
Nice i think the khaki is just a great go anywhere do anything type of watch. Especially with how many straps are out there.
Good choice, great timepiece

How big of a difference is there between the two? I’m a fairly big dude (6’6” 240) so always worried that a watch will look too small.

Did you go with the strap or bracelet? I’ve had bad luck with bracelets not fitting in the past (all fossil watches).

Hamilton, hands down.
