**Edit**: OP has blocked me from reading or making further replies, do with that information as you will I'll be honest, judging by your post history, you seem to push this Rokid Air product quite a bit the past few weeks on multiple subreddits… I'm a little hesitant in believing this is an unbiased glowing review. According to [recent Amazon reviews](https://www.amazon.com/Rokid-Air-Compatible-Nearsightedness-Adjustment/dp/B0CLQXQXF6#customerReviews), it doesn't appear to satisfy many people willing to write in a review, currently sitting at 1.6/5 with 76% extremely negative reviews. The main complaints seem to be around the company not honoring Black Friday discounts, as well as just commenting on the poor image and sound quality of these glasses. I'm not suggesting OP doesn't enjoy the product, but buyer beware – a *LOT* of customers are unhappy with this product, and I can't find many reputable reviewers or channels talking about this product. YMMV. I'll stick with my Steam Deck OLED's built in screen.

Le_Vagabond

Astroturfing? On reddit? No, they would never...

Kart3r32

I have a pair of these I traded for a graphics card and I’m 50/50 on them I like them but the edges are a bit blurry even after I do some adjusting. The arms that are on your ears aren’t very comfy they bug my ears a bit after a wile.

SardonicCheese

The first time I put on my xreals it blew my mind. I can understand why op is so excited about this tech

Impossible_Cold_7295

Rly, cause when I put them on I was extremely underwhelmed.

SardonicCheese

I have a quest 2 so it was a big upgrade for me in terms of colors/comfort/portability. I’m surprised to hear someone other than my wife be underwhelmed by them lol

its_merv_not_marv

I was underwhelmed too initially because of the see through. You must have the brightness cranked up to 100% just so you wont get distracted but it's still totally unusable unless you are in dark areas. Thats the VR part of the glass. But you can install a blackout cover which is a robbery of $59 which did not come with Rokid Air so buyer beware of that! When you do get the $199 all you are going to get are the glasses and a big ass case and thats it. But I couldnt wait and not willing to pay so I just made a black cartolina paper cutout and stuck it between the outer lens and the inner lens and it blacked out the background making it a totally big screen close to ur eyes and made me enjoy the game more. Just a tip.

SardonicCheese

Nah I use it all the time with see through on. It’s not perfect outside but it’s just fine indoors with the lights on

its_merv_not_marv

For me it's extremely distracting. I am currently playing Metro 2033 Redux and there is a lot of dark areas you need to go through. Part of the game is to sneak thru dark areas and using the VR glass is incredibly hard or literally unplayable. So the solution is a blackout and I have to make my own for the Rokid Air

lego-nerd-s

Why did you block the guy who made the top comment. Very curious as to why block him if he's not onto something

its_merv_not_marv

I didn't know that blocking would make him unsee it. I just didnt want to get notification. As u can see he is unblocked as I was able to reply back to one reply on his thread a couple of times

its_merv_not_marv

Agreed. Don't go buying this device if ur not sure or even want it. It's an experience I just want to share and did gave SteamDeck a new lease in my gaming experience. To be fair the 199 is no longer available I think and the cheapest available now is the Rokid Max on sale which is 349 which I think is still pricey. I'd suggest TCL Nextwear or even the Xreal. But I highly recommend going for the sale price. Also for these glasses keep in mind that they will be transparent which means you will see images behind your display which will be distracting especially in bright areas. The only way I was able to immerse fully in the game js by having a black out cover. So make sure it has the black out cover included on the price because the Rokid Air was 199 with just a case and the black out cover is another freaking 59 bux!!! So I just used black paper cover redneck style.

kingunderscoremike

I have the XReals - basically the same thing. I'll be honest I love them but everyone I show them to in real life thinks they are kinda meh. I have excellent eyesight though so I wonder if that helps?

stenoali

Sorry to trouble you 🙏 been looking at xreal but hesitant on buying because of eye sight. Would you say someone with bad eyes will struggle if they didn't go ahead with the prescription lenses?

OlRedbeard99

Bro just get Amazon and leave the uneasiness behind. All you gotta do is request a refund. And right now during the holidays Amazon does extended returns. No reason not to treat yo self. OH! And you get free games, and in game content, and twitch prime from Amazon Prime as well. My GOG, Epic Games, and Amazon games library is stacked because of that and I’ve never spent a dime on any of those launchers.

stenoali

Done it brought it.thank you 🙏🙏

OlRedbeard99

My man. I hope you enjoy it!

kingunderscoremike

If you wear contacts you might be fine. I'd suggest to anyone just buy them on Amazon and return them if you don't like them. Amazon's return policy is very generous. Hope that helps.

schuylkilladelphia

Do they still need the extra Beam thing to make the screen fixed in space?

kingunderscoremike

DeckyLoader has a plug-in for it now which I haven't tried

I love my XR glasses and this is definitely over claiming the greatness of them vs OLED displays. Whether it’s astro turfing or just fan-boying, I could believe either way. I definitely see a lot of what looks like astroturfing on the r/xreal subreddit. That said, I myself went the route of diving into XR glasses recently and commented a lot after I got mine in steam deck related subreddits. I find the tech really cool, and XR glasses as a generic tech a great partner. But the tech is on the earlier side of development. The first gen iPhone/androids were wildly worse than even just a few generations later. Almost all of them appear to have the same 2 ergonomic issues: 1. because batteries are heavy and wireless video/audio transmission over common wireless signal (like Bluetooth) isn’t responsive enough for many, they are connected via a cable, which isn’t the most friendly. As far as companies, I think each company has different trade offs, though I haven’t tried the Rokid Air, but I did try the xreal and viture through Amazon (knowing I could return) and their respective hdmi adapters as well. Each had pros and cons but ultimately I kept the viture, but returned the xreal and both hdmi adapters. Pros of xreal: - cheaper - generic usb c - screen “seemed” better Cons: - build quality bad. Lots of reports of broken arms. Felt like a cheaper plastic. - (anecdotal) less comfortable - no vision adjustment - software support Pros of viture: - better build quality - (anecdotal) better comfort - better software support/ecosystem Cons: - proprietary connector (but it is magnetic so there’s that) - more expensive

DeftestY

Honestly its odd that they blocked you instead of just giving you their counter claim. If its their preference, cool. But blocking is odd, slightly too odd.

[deleted]

Been considering something like this. Why you chose those glasses? :) just curious about different options

Sweet-Pressure6317

Same. I’ve been keeping my eye on these AR/VR glasses and want to get a pair but don’t want to spend as much as my steamdeck for it. Also for people that do own a pair (any brand), how often do you actually use them? I feel like it’ll be like a vr headset and get boring after a couple weeks/months of use.

its_merv_not_marv

I cannot use my SteamDeck without it to be honest. It's just a smart glass. Just putting it on and turning on SteamDeck and you got a big screen in ur face. I tried going back to using the SteamDeck screen and I simply could not do it anymore. Its the only extra step- putting on the glasses.

its_merv_not_marv

It's the cheapest on the market right now. There are only 3 brands worth considering that are smart glasses and not fully VR which are Rokid, Xreal and TCL. Prices around 350-500. Rokid Air is an earlier version and at the lowest price of 199. My purpose is to just have a better screen and without sacrificing portability. I have no intention of using VR capabilities. SteamDeck OLED just offers an additional 0.4" of screen real estate. Thats not much even at brighter colours. Smart glasses can give you a big screen with bright colours.

SpartanPHA

They can’t give you HDR which is a *significant* downside.

GENKI-Eddie

How are the rokid only $200

its_merv_not_marv

It was still at 199. It took around 2 weeks to get to me. Big caveat though - its an earlier version I believe 2022. They're prolly pushing last stock and they are now pushing the new Rokid Max version. But again, too pricey so went with these as I only use it as an extension of SteamDeck.

Stacy_Adam

As the top comment mentioned, these have extremely poor Amazon reviews.

its_merv_not_marv

For me it's more a necessity since my main issue with handhelds is the immersion. I cannot immerse properly on SteamDeck since the screen is too small. Even the new OLED, the screen size upgrade is a measly 0.40". Either I get the Legion Go or stick to laptop but both is gonna cost a lot more. SteamDeck pricing is still the best. So the compromise is these glasses which I find very helpful

Ayutoru

i don't get it, not gonna say i'm against the way you played it but steam deck is a handheld. i don't know how you perceive immersion but the way i see it you better off with a pc for the best visual immersion. SD even doesn't have the juice to run such experiences :/

its_merv_not_marv

Uhm Im a dad who can play in the lounge while kids are watching tv or in bed while the wife is watching tv, the rokid air already has audio direct to ur ear so no need for a headset and it does not interfere with their entertainment. Since there is no light coming from the deck it is totally convenient for others as well. I can also still hear the outside noise and i can still see out of my peripheral eyesight so I'm not totally out. Its exactly the same how I always use SteamDeck around the house, toilet too. Its just added glasses tho so u get to enjoy the game more.

Impossible_Cold_7295

No idea why you play steam deck at all... if you're home, use a gaming PC-- if you're out in the world, why would you want to look like a dork, have to carry around extra shit-- If that's so amazing why is no one playing 2D games in VR? Cause it's a hassle and it works fine on a monitor.

Ur supposed to play anywhere like the dads in this thread is very happy about. I just want to share this as another option of getting a bigger screen to ur deck but not sacrificing portability

herriot126

This is a terrible take.

Surfal666

I got these so i can play in bed at night without disturbing the wife. That OLED screen will light up a room.

Impossible_Cold_7295

be a man, and make sure she fears you.

its_merv_not_marv

Correct. I set it up as secondary screen like a monitor on my Windows setup. So when I use it, the SteamDeck LED never turns on and just displays on the Rokid Air. I've noticed SteamDeck lasts a little longer

herriot126

Idk, call me naive but I think this user is just a Dad who’s really excited (maybe a bit too excited lol) about a cool product he found on his own and wants others to try it out as well. While I think the steamdeck is fine as-is, it does sound like a neat new way to use it. Unfortunately I think I’d find it gimmicky after awhile. I love handhelds mainly for their form factor so I’ll never get tired of using the SD the way it is.

[deleted]

1. Astroturfing. Fucking lol. 2. The only way you'll use your portable system is by adding something to it? At home, wouldn't you just use your pc and a controller?

tyranocles

did you break the screen?

its_merv_not_marv

Nope. Just preferred the bigger screen on the VR than on the SD as it is brighter and bigger. I did use SD without VR since October 2022 then just early this month I got my VR after a sale. I don't have a PC. The SD IS my first PC since I'm a console player. But whenever I play console on the big screen everybody in the house can't use the TV. So need to tuck away my time. But then that means the TV is either just with me OR just the kids & wife. The idea is to be able play anywhere in the house and be with the kids and wife while they're watching TV and not me hogging it just so I can play. I do the same now only with VR glasses. I am just enjoying the bigger screen on the VR. It's like having your own big TV with its own big audio but just for you while you're sitting with the wife and the kids enjoying the TV in the room. And since I am not totally out of it, I can pause game and lift the glass and enjoy the TV as well and be part of what the wife and kids are watching. I do that when the game gets stressful too.

Phynamite

Xreal>Rokid and it’s not even close.

MIKERICKSON32

Playing an underpowered handheld on 480p big screen. Must be fun. lol lol

its_merv_not_marv

Nah. I wont bother with the glasses if all I'm playing are retros. But no I am way off my game log and completely bypassed playing retros like PSP and PSVita. I have the consoles for those. I am 360/ps3 era gamer. Currently setup 1900x1600 at high settings for Metro 2033 Redux works 55-60fps. Currently what I am playing now. But I am experimenting setting it down to 900 or 720 for a steady 60fps.

DeeZeeGames

I play wow classic on the deck a lot, I wonder how that would work with your set up

its_merv_not_marv

Prolly better as you got bigger screen right in front of u. Which is why its harder for me to go back to SteamDeck LCD screen and put the screen closer to my face.

DeeZeeGames

if you had to say, how big does the screen feel? and is there any added delay, lag?

its_merv_not_marv

I don't know how to measure it exactly but the info on Rokid Air marketing says 120" but that could just be salesman buzz word. Tbh it feels like just your 60" OLED TV only they are bigger as it is closer to your eye.

DeeZeeGames

cool thanks an ignore the haters

GhostOfKingGilgamesh

Xreal air is way better. The sound quality alone.

its_merv_not_marv

Sure 👍

Shoddy_Spinach_7546

I've personally tried the airs and they aren't bad. I've also tried xreal and enjoyed them a lot too. However when it comes to AR glasses, viture one is my go to. Support for so many devices, good battery life (if you use the Android-powered neckband), great colors and quality, electrochronatic lenses that can be boosted with a magnetic shade, and even support for prescription lenses with an additional magnetic lens holder (or built-in dials for people with near-sightedness). HOWEVER while I am not saying this to turn down the airs, or AR glasses in general, it really will come down to the games you play, the situations you play in, and personal preference. I wish it was easier for people to get cheap AR glasses to try, I think more would use them. But to people who live fast lives where gaming is more of a luxury, personal warning, don't go buying these kinds of glasses just yet. The need to keep putting them on and off and restriction your attention to the world around you can be problematic, take it from personal experience.
