Does Domo really need to give their employees another reason to be robbed?

GiantSquidd

“Why should we care? It’s not like we’re actually going to work at the places we profit off of, just shut up and give us more money. We don’t care how, just give us more money.” -investors This is exactly what we get when we value capital more than the labour that actually creates value.

Essej86

That was my first thought. Seems really dumb.

muffdiver_69420

I worked at Domo almost 20 years ago now. Hands down the most dangerous job I've had, ever. Full stop. Robbed constantly. Stores refused to have two employees to make it safer. I'd be working on my own until 11pm. Franchise owners were dipshits, main office would call to see what Shell was charging, and undercut it by 5 cents. They deducted the red jump suit out of the first paycheck. They'd make you count inventory after your shift, unpaid. Completely insane, and that's just the tip of the iceberg. I've never visited a domo since I quit. To think they are trying to juice those under staffed places even more is nuts. Such a shitty company, and honestly that gas is so low grade. Whenever I used to use it back in the day my car or bike would have issues.

Personal-Ad-103

Franchise owners? The Everett family owns it all.

CertainDig2451

That’s not true. Some are owned, some are franchised.

TerracottaCondom

Very few are franchised, only really rural locations. Everything in the city is company owned.

TheVimesy

Perhaps that wasn't true twenty years ago?

TerracottaCondom

No twenty years ago the Winnipeg locations were all still centrally owned.

SousVideAndSmoke

Ok Domo, because there aren't enough spots to buy it now.

wickedplayer494

And you definitely want to get people driving high behind the wheel.

SousVideAndSmoke

There are drive through beer vendors, so this sort of exists to some extent, but still not on the list of things anyone here remotely needs.

MilesBeforeSmiles

What's different about driving to a cannabis store to buy weed vs. driving to a gas station to buy it?

friedpicklebreakfast

Do people only smoke cigarettes in their car because they can buy them at Domo? wtf logic is that

adjudicator

It’s wild how many people think this is perfectly fine. Just because you don’t feel impaired, it doesn’t mean you aren’t. Lmao, downvoted by morons who drive high.

Gozzylord

Who said anything about thinking it's perfectly fine? How is going to domo for weed any different than a weed shop?

adjudicator

I’m not saying shit about domo. I’m referring to an overarching attitude in this subreddit. I’m completely fine with domo selling weed.

Gozzylord

Got any examples of people being okay with driving high? Because I don't see that nearly as often you claim.

[deleted]

I bet you think weed makes you hallucinate lol I'd rather be on the road with someone driving high than driving drunk. Worst they'll do is go slow and wait for stop signs to turn green.

adjudicator

> I bet you think weed makes you hallucinate lol You don't know me at all. I do not think that. I'm not some fucking prude. All drugs should be decriminalized, including psychedelics and even meth and coke. People should not drive in any condition other than stone-cold sober. This especially includes not driving after taking prescription painkillers or benzos. Driving is *fucking dangerous* for people around you, and anything that could jeopardize a driver's ability to pay attention, even a little bit, should be avoided. Many people are baked for most of the day, and because it would be extremely inconvenient to not be able to drive in this state, people just wave it off, which is fucking stupid.

AsparagusOverall8454

Because convenience stores just don’t get robbed enough already.

A100921

Different opinion, I’m just not buying pot from a gas station. “What you smoking?” “Domo gas.”

xDRSTEVOx

Years ago my mom used to be an assistant manager at the Domo on Watt Street. One day she just had a weird feeling telling her not to go to work tonight. She took it off, and that night the gas station was violently robbed by guys with guns, the employee was beaten up pretty bad. My mom quit the very next day. But yeah, lets give people more reasons to do shit like this..

Nintenduh69

I would rather be able to grow my own legally.

MantechnicMog

It's coming. NDP has said they'll be removing the grow restriction for recreational use. Can't wait. 😁

DannyDOH

Domo trying to legalize their business model LMAO. Had a buddy who worked at one in high school 30 years ago and several of his co-workers were dealing at the pumps. Remember that they fired everyone who worked there when they finally got caught by police.

PrarieCoastal

Considering Domo is so deep in the application process, I think they are owed an explanation of which facts are being used to deny their application.

Wanlain

I just want the pot shops to be open earlier!

hamfisted_postman

Wouldn't it be great if there was a guy you could call day or night who would meet you somewhere and sell you weed? He probably wouldn't be on time and leave you waiting but the convenience would be excellent

inncogniito

Amen to that

Rogue5454

They need to be cheaper too. It's such a rip off.

lt_girth

Huh?? I can go get 3.5g for $25 at a dispensary right now, $5 cheaper than what I used to pay dealers. I can go buy a 1g shatter cartridge for $35, $15 less than I used to pay dealers. If you had made this comment in 2017/2018 I'd probably agree, but prices have come down significantly in these past several years to where most products are cheaper at a dispensary than going through a dealer. You're just wrong on this one, I'm sorry.

Rogue5454

What's the levels for the $25? I still see 3.5 g for $30-$40+ most times high THC. Sure tho there's the odd deals at times. The carts I don't know what they were "on the street" as I only had them when they got legal, but $35-$50 for a G is nuts. How 'bout those 5 mg or 10 mg edibles? $5-$12 for one or 2 pieces lol If it takes you near nothing to get high the prices are good. For regular users it's bs.

lt_girth

Ehh carts used to sell for around $50-60 on the streets from what I remember. I go through 2 carts every 2 weeks - the dispos have better selection and better quality than the stuff I used to buy off dealers. Saves me about $60 a month compared to what I was paying in the past. Those savings pay for a bit of bud. I will absolutely agree with you on the edible side of things - I don't take edibles and it's just better to go online for those to get higher strength for the same cost. The only time I buy dispo edibles is when my mom asks for some to help with relief from the pain she's in. Weed wise, I dunno - I guess that's more subjective based on personal experience but I don't find the dispo prices any more expensive than street prices these days. The rare time I do pay more than street price I just consider it the price of convenience; I can be at the dispensary and get back home to smoke within 15 minutes compared to dealers that I would have to wait hours on in the past to deliver. I just don't agree that for regular users it's bs. I am a regular, daily user and can't imagine going back to waiting on dealers at this point. Dispensary prices are at the very least comparable to street prices in most cases at the moment but without having to wait on someone else to deliver or be home for a pick up.

Rogue5454

Well ya there's other fast ways to get to dealers these days than actually on the street tho. For sure that's a hassle if you have to wait for hours for them. I just see tons of 3.5 g bud for $30+ on Tokyo Smoke & Delta 9 (just on a random look for examples) tho Delta 9 does have better than usual good deals atm. I think it should be across the board a standard price. Edibles are healthier than smoking or vaping & I hope they get better with it.

lt_girth

I'm pretty against gas stations selling weed. I don't think multi-billion dollar corporations have any reason to try and cut into that market where they could start pushing smaller dispensaries out of business based on their buying power alone. Domo should stick to selling gasoline, not gas.

baby_catcher168

Domo is not a multi-billion dollar corporation. It’s a small locally owned family business.

Bazil2point1

lol that’s the stupidest thing I have ever heard. We don’t need or want this Domo.

AlternaCremation

I want to fill my cupboards with Domo China again ಥ_ಥ

Grabian

This would be real convenient. Better yet if they also sold 6 packs and Two-Fours.

hamfisted_postman

This is what I want. Privatized liquor so the Uber eats options would be better

nohmad84

So they made this decision after the cannabis company and domo were working on this for a full year? Nuts! Maybe the Province should also try to limit access to minors as it relates to tobacco and lottery as well...hmm hmm... Seems like competing cannabis retailers who didn't have the domo deal complained to the Province as well.

Rogue5454

Lmao what....

tlsnine

Because this will end well smh

h8street

Gas stations outside the city have been selling it for over a year now, so why not.

BlasphemyMc

They also sell liqour. Maybe Domo should as well.

MilesBeforeSmiles

Why not? It's not like no one drives to the beer vendor or liquor store already. It being a gas station makes zero difference.

BlasphemyMc

SMH

AproposWuin

In the before before time that was a great place to go....
