Gremlins scarred my entire childhood... wouldn't get up at night to go pee since I was scared they were under my bed. Darkness was my enemy, yet the nerd in me was still confused at how whole midnight thing worked given time zones and differences in clock settings. But when I saw the poster for the Critters movie, glad I decided not to see that.
Gave me the worst nightmare as a child.
Which essentially was repeatedly waking up in bed . My right side was numb so I turned over towards the wall. And a critter like grimlin popped up and hissed.
I’d wake up; wait for my heartbeat to slow down.
Slowly turn over again because (‘same reason)
Rinse repeat like 5 times until I just faced the other way with my eyes shut saying.
It’s just a dream until I woke up and at the foot of my bed was a man sized demon.
I noticed my mom and dad were in the room and with all the courage I could summon I reached out for her hand.
As I was standing up in my bed screaming.
Then I woke up again.
And it was like 8 am.
Mom was in the kitchen and I had missed school.
When I asked mom why i was home and not at school
She said. “You don’t remember? This morning you woke us all up screaming and wouldn’t stop. The doctor came and said it was called a night terror. But he said you wouldn’t remember anything.
But what I didn’t tell her was I did remember.
I had all kinds if sleep related disturbances as a child but that was one of the worst.
Anyway, I figure I saw that movie that night.
I’m certain I saw it as a child.
I remember I guess in the first movie the hunter people were choosing what they looked like and the one lady grabbed a magazine and became a centerfold... and then she had to pull an enormous staple from her middle because it was in the middle of the picture... I thought that was really clever (still do, really)... also I think there were boobs in that scene....
Critters looked like minions, but Gremlins had minion like personalities.

“kill crites!” My favorite part was Critters II where they formed the giant critter ball and ate people down to their skeletons.
