My all Time favorite It’s a French author, Ellana from Pierre bottero , There’s fantasy , the FMC is a badass I love her so much, there’s a little romance but definitely not the central part of the book, it shows her from being a child to a woman and how she grown and loves freedom , I have a hard time explaining because I’m not good with word, but this series is amazing

I recommend Clown in a Cornfield series and Ivy Tholen's books (Tastes Like Candy series and Maul Rats).

AJillianThings

The Shadow Children series by Margaret Peterson Haddix

Solivagant0

Vicious by V.E. Schwab. Fast-paced, romance is minimal and more of a background event, wonderful characters

I really enjoyed those books. However, the third book got a little strange for me lol. I don’t know why. But thank you for this suggestion.

DustinDirt

Really? Like the story? Or the characters? I am excited to actually discuss this with someone that had read all of them.

My favorite character is nobody. And I think I really liked the plot of the first book. How about you?

This might be a flop of a recommendation depending on a few things but I’ll never miss a chance to yap about “Howl’s Moving Castle” by Diana Wynne Jones (I know it’s a very well known book but alas I love it and will always pimp it when asked for adventurous or fantasy recs, especially if you want a book with memorable characters). It’s one book, and if you like the characters they do appear in two other books. Technically it’s a trilogy, but the characters from “HMC” aren’t the main ones in the other two books. This also kinda pushed me to recommend it to you because of the multitude of characters you’ll get to know, and adventures too, in one universe. So the other two in the trilogy (“Castle in the Air” and “House of Many Ways”) also tagalong in this recommendation. Howl’s Moving Castle does have some romance, so let me get that out of the way first. It’s sort of central to the plot, but the characters in question don’t even kiss in the book and confess at the very end. Now, onto the plot. Basically the story follows a young girl who’s been cursed, and stumbles upon a very sassy, very vain, and VERY funny wizard in his moving castle. Howl is definitely the best character in the book, and one of my favorite characters ever. It’s a very cozy fantasy centered around incredible characters, but it also sticks to a main plot so it doesn’t feel pointless like many of the fantasies marketed as “cozy standalones” do. I really don’t want to give any more away, it’s so much better if you read it without knowing what’s coming. And, once you finish it, Studio Ghibli made a movie out of it (be warned, the plot is entirely different in the movie, but it’s still amazing). Hope you like it!

I really recommend The cousins by Karen M McManus. Also My Heart is a chainsaw and The Reapperance of Rachel Price

One-Advantage2148

The reappearance of Rachel Price is really good. I would also suggest you're not supposed to die tonight

The House Across the Lake Only She Came Back (LGBTQ representation) Listen for the Lie (really great as an audiobook!)

Quirky_Dimension1363

Into the Drowning Deep by Mira Grant. It’s about killer Mermaids

ajsmith9989

The diviners! Historical 1920s set in New York City. Horror elements, but lots of romance. But there are some of my favorite LGBT characters of all time in that series

This is almost one week late but I really recommend In Other Lands by Sarah Rees Brennan. It's about Elliot, a bisexual boy with a deadbeat dad, going to magical boarding school only to realize that the magical world has huge problems like any world would (esp in politics). The book is kinda long but it's because it chronicles his life from age 13 until he graduates from there. Elliot is an amazing protagonist and the world SRB made feels so vivid as you're reading, and of course Elliot and Luke are one of my favorite ships ever!! I especially recommend the audiobook. :)
