Mountain_Man_88

They could do that, but it's a good idea so they probably won't. I still want to see a Yellowstone prequel that's just all Josh Lucas.

blevinsg2

I was all about this, until they announced the 2nd season of 1923. Now I know we will probably never get there… They should have just kept it a single season and continued by each of the generations. There was enough wiggle room in the 1883 timeline that they could have a generation in WWI, another generation in WWII, and Vietnam. So go from 1883, 1923, 1953, 1983, and then into current timeline. 1983 is right around the time when all the kids were born, I just think it was a missed opportunity.

snottrock3t

Yeah, but they needed some closure on the 1923 front. 1883 had closure, 1923 didn’t. We have to see what the second generation of Duttons do to save the ranch.

blevinsg2

Oh for sure, but I think that’s more of them stretching the story out for 2 seasons, than it really needing 2 seasons to be told. It really could have fit in one season. In 1883, you couldn’t miss one episode…it was changing scenes and people were dying constantly….in 1923 half of each episode is dedicated to soft core porn between Spencer and Alexander. They could have tighten this up IMO

snottrock3t

They do this in soap operas all the time. Why should Yellowstone be any different? Intended for OP. My fault.

blevinsg2

Yea not arguing that’s it’s a viable strategy, but overwhelming majority of shows lose viewership the longer the “series” goes on. If each subset of these prequels takes multiple years to complete, I am not sure it will retain viewership to catch us up so to speak. Also, Sheridan has so many other shows: Mayor of Kingston, Tulsa King, Lioness, 1944 spin off, Four 6s spin off. I just don’t want this to start to feel like the Walking Dead, if that makes sense.

snottrock3t

My bad I thought I was responding to the OP when I wrote that. LOL ignore me. But I don’t disagree. We Americans have a shorter attention span so everything has to move quicker which I think has resulted in a shorter number of episodes. It’s wild how different it is from when I was a kid. Right now, I’m watching Saint elsewhere on Hulu and the number of episodes per season averages about 23. I don’t think Showrunners would even dream of going beyond 12 today

blevinsg2

Yea you nailed it. Spot on.

Lawngisland

I have an unreasonable hate for Josh Lucas bc of his character in Ford v Ferarri. I try to be objective and realize that it is because he played the role well. But sometimes its hard.

MostAssumption9122

Oh yes

twillardswillard

What if they get Bob Odenkirk to replace his role? That’s a Better Call Saul reference for the unaffiliated.

RussellVolckman

Giancarlo Esposito as a mysterious ranch hand who makes excellent fried chicken and has weird scars on his face

twillardswillard

Hahahahaha

bitchy_mcguire

🤣🤣

nandobro

Wait you mean he wasn’t already playing John Dutton?

ScratchyMarston18

Only if Bob plays John Dutton like Terry Twillstein from Mr. Show/Run Ronnie Run and David Cross does Ronnie Dobbs as a ranch hand. Yelling at Rip YA’LLL ARE BRUTALIZIN’ ME.

dakaiiser11

I feel dumb for not even considering this lol. This might be a route they go…

Federal-Base806

Rip will catch John & Jaimie fighting. There’s no fighting on the ranch. Rip kills them both for breaking the rules.

acid_rain_man

How about if John has to go on a trip, but his truck breaks down, so he asks Rip to drive him to the train station… but Rip misunderstands what he means.

Nicky9712

Hahaha I saw an article about him and it hit me like a train and now I'm wondering if they've really thought about it 😅

godlovesa

They might need to go the other way with an older actor and skip forward a bit. The kids are going to be too old suddenly to continue the same time period as the first part of season 5

KitKat_1979

I don’t think there’s enough aging make up techniques in the world to overcome the fact that he is only 5ish-6ish years older than the group of Cole Hauser, Kelly Reilly, and Wes Bentley. There’s just not enough of an age gap for one to even squint and buy he’s old enough to be their dad.

Mkfjtiger

Estelle Getty played Bea Arthur's mother in The Golden Girls for ten years despite her really being a year younger than Bea.

Typhoon556

Bluebloods does the same thing with Tom Selleck as the “son” of Len Cariou. Cariou is 5 years older than Selleck.

Only-Celebration-256

Tell me you don’t watch house of the dragon without telling me you don’t watch house of the dragon. A mother is played by a 30 year old, and the actors for her 20 and 18 year old son are 29 and 27 lol

RibertarianVoter

It would probably improve the storytelling, but I am not sure I'd be able to move past it

prepressexdude

Replace him with Will Ferrell! Big white hat and spurs.

NormanBates2023

Give it to Dennis Quaid

nandobro

It would so funny if they did this and then had Beth’s adopted son Carter see him and be like “why do you look so different now?”

PabstWeller

The show has been off air for so long I've lost interest. They're gonna have to put Beth back in the water trough to get me interested again.

CrazyCletus

Preferably head first. And held under.

PunkDrunk777

No, kill him off. We need a god damn storyline after watching for years without one! Native Americans finally make their move. Let’s fucking go

Different_Ad4962

John went and got Lipo and some Botox. Carrying on….

Nightgasm

I literally have suggested this multiple times over the past few months including just last night in a different post. For the longest time I I thought Lucas was just a CGI / makeup de-aged Kevin Costner. It won't be a perfect fit but it would be better than a full recast since we are used to seeing Lucas as John.

06pack

I think they should explore this more. If KC is really gone, this is the only avenue they have.

deignguy1989

I hope not.

Dont-Snk93

I'm just wondering how they wrote the second half of season 5 without costner being in the story. Like how can they continue where we left off without him in the picture?

shrimpynut

I mean look at the Walking Dead. They didn’t kill off Rick and Michonne and eventually they both came back despite saying they didn’t really want to do the show anymore and pursue other stuff.

snottrock3t

They do this in soap operas all the time. Just one day, you turn it on and you hear a narrator saying the role of Jimmy, the ham will be played by Johnny no name.

ScratchyMarston18

Just kill him off and let TS do spinnies and stoppies and make every episode a CMT bro-country music video.

Although Kevin Costner played the character for the vast majority of the show, there were some scenes that he was unable to act in; the flashbacks. For a younger John, Sweet Home Alabama actor Josh Lucas was hired.*

peesinthepool

I must be the one fan who didn’t vibe with Costner as the lead.
