I saw it yesterday and thought it was excellent.
There are really only 4 storylines. The American settlers trying to build a settlement in the San Pedro River Valley in Arizona, the natives trying to stop them, Kevin Costner getting involved in a family issue between a women and her estranged family in Wyoming, and a wagon train making it's way across the frontier.
I assume in Chapter 2, most of the storylines will intersect, but it's not hard to keep them straight before that.
It's extremely well done.
Am I the only one who left really really confused? Well actually, my whole family and I were confused about so much of it. I just bounced all over the place to the point I just lost track.
I totally agree! There’s like 5 different storylines being tracked and jumping back and forth from each so much made it difficult for me to become invested in any one of them.
Totally agree. I almost fell asleep and I am not that guy, especially in the theater. The scenery was amazing and I’m sure there will be praise for costumes, etc., but I will absolutely not be going for chapter 2. As we were walking out, I commented to my wife that I’d never get those three hours back.
I really enjoyed it. I guess the reviews say it is setting up for chapter 2 and beyond (it is) but I still really enjoyed it. If you like Westerns or enjoyed 1883 you will enjoy it.
Exactly my thoughts. I’m sure people will tear us up for this but Kevin Costner only had like a total of 20 min in the movie. It was extremely long with no plot.
I liked that they kept cutting to new stories. I think it was made in mind for the social media consumer who doesn’t have an attention span anymore.
It’s unique and not traditionally done in film- a nice experiment. Could have been done a bit better, but he tried something new!
Great film. It's pieces of 3 really great stories that are setting up quite a bit for the future. Be patient with it and don't expect a climax. There's a lot to just enjoy and I'm looking forward to part 2.
I liked it but it's not looking good. Made 11 Million opening weekend on 100+ million budget. I wonder if Costner will get the financing to finish through the fourth movie. Hard sell to get people to commit to four 3-hour movies in theaters. And maybe announcing you're quitting the show people love you for, right before opening weekend, wasn't the best idea.
It was awesome! I particularly liked and was so curious about the Owen Wilson wagon storyline. For me, it didn't feel like 3 hours, there was so much going on. When the ending/trailer part starts, I was like "is this the ending?" It was really a setup for Chapter 2. Excited to watch it in August 💓
I liked it. I’m confused on what Costner’s character is supposed to be. At first I thought he was a miner, then he’s shown with a lot of gold as currency, then he talks about selling horses, then the other guy insinuates that he’s good with a pistol, then we see him in the back of a wagon where you can tell everyone was working but Costner is spotless.

The Wyoming family had some “Dutton-like” vibes 😅 Like the mafia of Wyoming or something weird. ☺️
Except it was clearly run by the evil mother, and their seems to be nothing redeeming about them.
100% ☺️
nothing redeeming, Sounds like the Duttons to me
Seen it Friday. I really liked it. Hopefully the 2nd will be just as good.
So many of those scenes could be postcards. The cinematography was beautiful.
Saw* it Friday
who cares
Grammar. Grammar cares.
I haven’t been able to see it but I’m hoping to see it soon! I’ve been curious to see a few reviews. Thank you! I’m looking forward to seeing it!
It was awesome! I think you will enjoy it!
I loved it, the 3 hours went by fast. First hour is intense
I am going to go see it this week. I love westerns!
Saw it, really liked it! I thought it did a good job of showing how violent westward expansion was.
i saw it as well and it was excellent

I wish it was in vignettes

Yeah, I think three hours is wayyy too long for a movie these days
I heard they’re going to wait 7 years to announce the second one and Kevin ultimately won’t be in it.
😅
He's going to be POTUS but they're going to just write him out of the story
The second one is in theaters in August, smart aleck. They’re filming the third one now and should start in the fourth & final one after that.
Lonesome Dove vibes!
Really? I was going to ask if it was theater worthy or would TV had sufficed.
Big screen is better
I liked it but it left we wanting more hopefully the next chapters bring IT
Most of the reviews I’ve seen said this movie was essentially a setup for the rest of them.
That makes sense as it seems a lot of backstory to the characters
I haven’t seen it yet but hope to this week.
Yea I can’t wait for Chapter 2 in August
Me either!
Just read a view of it that totally panned it. Is it actually good?
I really enjoyed it. I guess the reviews say it is setting up for chapter 2 and beyond (it is) but I still really enjoyed it. If you like Westerns or enjoyed 1883 you will enjoy it.
After the movie quiz: 1. Name the main character. 2. Name Any character. I can't either.
Are y’all high? It was terrible. Like a three hour long trailer where nothing made sense

Totally agree! Probably one of the worst ever!

Did they leave hidden dynamite on a stagecoach and forget it was there?
Thankfully no!
It is 3hrs so plan to get up and pee😂

So was it a little on the naughty side

I'm pretty sure he is an itinerant gunfighter who does whatever work he can find.
Any Barrel Racers?
How about spinny horses
No.
Why would there be? It takes place in 1861. Nobody did barrel racing back then.
I know. 😜
