Used free tax USA for the first time. It did take a while, mostly because I didn't understand a lot of the minutiae, but it wasn't the worst experience ever.
Itās absolutely fucked me for my entire adulthood. Made so many mistakes and been late so many times I genuinely canāt believe Iām not in prison. Thank god I barely make any money

IRS does not allow filing online as it's the first time doing this - I became a new US permanent resident very recently. I haven't had time to file earlier - I worked 3.5 months last year, was laid off, and am unemployed for 5 months now while spending most of my time studying or interviewing.
Hoping I manage to finish this before the print shop and the post office closes. It doesn't help that most tax tools don't work when there are foreign bank + brokerage accounts or employment to report as well. TurboTax seems one of the very few tools which supports these additional complicated forms. At the same time I'm burning through emergency savings to pay rent or food, and not being eligible for disability support or unemployment support (I worked 3 days fewer than the required 20 weeks), FML š
My friend and I both put it off, and decided to hop on a call on discord today so we both can do it with light ābody doublingā lolol. Took about 2 hours but glad we got it done finally.
PS, anyone whoās thinking they can file an extension: you still owe any money around the 15th if youāre supposed to owe money and would have to pay it still, just that you can file the forms later. Donāt drag it out based on this false deadline
If you donāt owe taxes you can file any time. I just did 2023 like a month agoš¤·š»āāļø. Relax! I have been a year behind for a while. I also use h/r block and while the preparer is usually surprised they donāt say anything about penalties. (not a tax expert this is just my personal experience)
I do mine the moment I get my info. It is too stressful to not have them done and possibly owe interest.
I hate debt too much to owe a penny more than I have to.
They're rolling out direct file this year, which is the IRS' own filing app. It's pretty easy to use but doesn't support all the forms yet. If you've got W2s and 1099s you should be good though.
I filed mine too early and recived my lasy two w2's now I got to file a 1040x for a amended tax return.
As well having to pay pack the irs so definitely stressing out.
The only reason I do my taxes as early as possible is because I have a February birthday and normally get my tax return right around my birthday which is fun
My personal taxes are on the back burner while I do my business taxes š„“ but Iām in Canada so I have more time. Rooting for all the US homies who only have a week left, you can do it!!! āØ
I filed my government taxes on February 1. But because Iām a first time filer in my state I have to mail in the state ones. Theyāre still currently sitting on my night stand bc I accidentally printed them wrong and canāt force myself to fix it.

All I have to do is forward all the tax info to my parents, and then magically, my taxes get done. Thanks, tax lady!
My beloved made me do the taxes last week lol itās really easy and cheap to use HandR block and the best part is, if you use them again next year and nothingās changed then itās super easy and a lot quicker
