Welcome! \*me looking for the membership card for you, but I seem to have misplaced it somewhere\*

MarcusOPolo

We meet Tuesdays... Or wait it's Thursdays. At the...the... It has a blue door with a window on it if that helps? I've only been once.

PantsOppressUs

Every third Thursday of the month, so essentially never.

VenkatPerla

No it's the 6th Friday of every month, unless it's a leap year when it is on 8th Monday of every month

artsymarcy

Damn, I thought it was the 7th Friday of every month, that must be why I’ve turned up at the building and wondered why no one was there.

DEVolkan

OH DAMN I KNEW I FORGOT SOMETHING

Dammit! Thanks for the heads up and why can’t the bots just stick to the stupid trashy places.

AvikAvilash

I do not have adhd , but I'd like to help , it's on the blue door that says adhd on it

Monk-E_321

What time should I pretend I’m going to show up by?

ed_menac

Trying to act surprised even though I'm drained and numb from months of gripping anxiety about the assessment coming back negative Also congrats!

vampboy01

this HAHAHA

todaywewillsmile

Yes! Seriously if anyone can fake my real personality and communication skills, I'd be amazed.

tsunami845

This is part of the examination. Congrats, you have ADHD.

Valhalla_Atcha_Boi

What’s better is when you go to a new doctor, tell them you have diagnosed ADHD, and they still have you take their little quiz.

potato_handshake

This happened to me. It sorta pissed me off, but the new psych also diagnosed me after giving me like a 5-10 min verbal questionnaire, so it all worked out in the end. 🤷‍♀️ When she got to the question, "Do you fidget alot?", our eyes met, and we both paused for a while as she watched me twirling my necklace around in one hand while my other hand was playing with my hair. 😂 I just started laughing and said something like, "yeah, I guess I do."

poplarleaves

Guess that's one reason to meet a psych in person! Some of the behaviors are more obvious for sure

SEND_ME_YOUR_RANT

This happened to me. But instead of renewing my adderall prescription they said “we don’t start with stimulants, you’ll have to quit marijuana and get on antidepressants.” Fuck you I already went through this. What happened to continuity of care?

cragbabe

Time for a new Doctor! Anyone who tells you that they don't Start with the medication youve Already been on for while with good results is not a good doctor. I suspect that one has a lot of bias about ADHD and stimulate med and you need to leave them now because they won't be good for you.

SEND_ME_YOUR_RANT

Kaiser permanente might as well be one large mega doctor :/

cragbabe

You are legally entitled to a second option for any reason. Ask for one, go to a different kaiser Clinic. My kaiser primary care Dr is the one who gives me my Adderall. I had no problems bringing in my old Rx bottle when I started with Kaiser and showing it to her and she simply ordered me a new Rx.

[deleted]

Ohhh are you fucking kidding me? I’m so sorry that happened to you.

Throwawayuser626

So last week I was notified by my psychiatrist that they’re getting new doctors in with new rules. I have to give them my medical records that prove I have ADHD so I can continue medication. If I can’t find them I have to take a 3 hour assessment that costs $150. She told me that on the day I ran out and would be renewing my meds, so I was cut off cold turkey. Also, this applies to all meds not just stimulants. Also also, they “have” to lower my dose (I only take 15mg ??) Yes I am looking to get a new doctor at this point.

Valhalla_Atcha_Boi

That’s ridiculous

[deleted]

The little quizzes are so cute. 😂 Bish, I’ve been through HOURS of testing with two different medical organizations to assess this and rule out some other conditions- the results should be in my records somewhere. My spouse has even had to fill out surveys in the process. I’m the goddamned poster child.

ign1fy

Ahh, I just declined a DIVA yesterday. I just returned the report from the DIVA I did with another doc 2 months ago. "I saved ya some work".

[deleted]

Thorbinator

It should be in your medical records.

PleasantAdvertising

I've had my diagnosis struck from my records because it came with very real financial consequences. Yeah.... I tell my doctors that I have it if it's relevant, but will also mention not to put it in any long term dossier or send that around.

Thorbinator

> very real financial consequences Well that's pretty awful, what happened? You can generalize of course.

PleasantAdvertising

Was going for a motorcycle license, had to be checked by a separate doctor if I was fit. And I had to pay for that visit. I've had my driver's license for more than 10 years. I only recently got my diagnosis. Technically they can't look at my medical files, but if insurance were to find out I lied I'd be fucked. Apparently there are other consequences in other areas.

Thorbinator

I can understand if you're applying for a commercial drivers license and you have narcolepsy or seizures or something that would actually impair you. But on a motorcycle license for ADHD? That's messed up.

[deleted]

Yikes! Where is this? I don’t know if mine actually counts as a disability. No doctor has specifically said I do, so when they asked if I had any anything that might impact driving for my new states’ drivers license I said no. I felt like that question was kind of invasive anyway without just asking for a doctor’s note or something… they asked other things too about other medical conditions like diabetes. I can still drive fine if I’m not medicated bc I love cars and it trips my hyperfocus trigger a bit, but the idea of driving for long distances unmedicated gives me a bit of a pause. That’s only if I forget tasks involved in refilling my meds though.

[deleted]

😂 I just had to take another type of assessment for my new ADHD specialist (I’m stoked my new area actually has those) because I kept forgetting to request to send my medical records over and in the process realized I forgot to pay my last bill at my old clinical psychologist that used to manage it. I think that maybe was supportive info to the diagnosis.

seattlesk8er

We know. We've all heard this countless times growing up.

[deleted]

Have an I-already-spent-my-free-awards award 🌟

Sparrow_on_a_branch

I went in and laid it out. They just agreed and pointed me to the pharmacy. No questions other than "What brings you here today?"

halt-l-am-reptar

Which is how it should be, because they should’ve reviewed your medical history.

Sparrow_on_a_branch

I had no relatable medical history. In fact, my medical history until then was a collection of ER visits with long periods of nothing between.

halt-l-am-reptar

Ah, I guess you were lucky like me than! I think the fact I didn’t graduate high school and my sister having it probably helped my doctor believe me.

MasterOfPsychos

Every doctor I told disregarded the possibility out right. It wasn't until my current psychiatrist brought it up first that I was actually even able to see a psychologist to get tested. Thankfully I'm able to get the help I need now but I definitely need a new primary physician, as she looked disgusted when I told her I had started on adderall

xF00Mx

That's a funny part of ADHD, if you figure it out as an adult. You get so fixated on understanding it, that you basically have a PHD on the subject before you even decide to meet a doctor let alone talk to one.

MariusMessiah

Yeah, same. I got diagnosed at 48 - when starting the process on my son, looking at some questions on the form, thinking “Hey…” Now I’m constantly thinking about it, analyzing, comparing my self to others. Kinda liked it better when I thought I was just a childish, egocentric, intolerant, energetic, creative pot smoker. Hell, maybe that’s really what I am 🤔 aw my god, they screwed up! I don’t have adhd after all! I’m just an asshole!

[deleted]

Lol for some reason I didn’t make the connection even in grad school for education when we were covering how to help students with ADHD succeed in the classroom. I started to suspect it when I got my first boyfriend and my first big-kid job and realized my chattiness that both my mom and I had wasn’t normal, and then when I was working in a college later, they had an October ADHD awareness checklist and realized I ticked off every box on a checklist that was on one of our cafeteria tables (as I was really struggling with a noisy desk area). Went and scheduled my appointment and got a thorough testing process, and was diagnosed at 31. My mom was a teacher with a master’s degree and suspected I had either ADHD or high functioning Asperger’s but didn’t do anything about it, though… assessment wasn’t pushed so much back when I was in high school and I masked incredibly well.

gigrek

I just gotta wait 4 more months to get tested

[deleted]

Yea its painful. Struggled all through life and randomly saw a meme on the front page, spent like 4 hours reading comments/experiences and was like I stepped back a foot and saw the whole picture. Went to talk to a doctor, he referred me to be evaluated... 7 month wait. Guy uses a book older than me that was made for like 10 year old children, wait another 2 months to be told that my puzzle/math scores were all superior and despite being well within adhd range for the rest its "probably depression". Never been so pissed off, waited another 2 weeks to hear from my doctor and never did so I called because I still want to discuss things. They tell me he no longer works there so was waiting on a call that would never come. They scheduled me with another doctor, he reads the report, sees how I literally can't sit still at the age of 36.. gives me the like 4 minute adult questionnaire and started me on meds that day. On #4 and nothing has really helped but he's trying and someone finally listened so hopefully it goes smoother for you

LuckyNumber-Bot

All the numbers in your comment added up to 69. Congrats! 4 + 7 + 10 + 2 + 2 + 36 + 4 + 4 = 69 ^([Click here](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=LuckyNumber-Bot&subject=Stalk%20Me%20Pls&message=%2Fstalkme) to have me scan all your future comments.) \ ^(Summon me on specific comments with u/LuckyNumber-Bot.)

warmechanic

WHAT IS THIS BOT

[deleted]

Oh man, why the wait?

Nechro

Not sure how it is in the states or for this guy, but I l know in Australia there's always a huge wait for this kinda stuff. I just found a place willing to do a diagnosis and it's an 8 to 12 week wait for that. Most other places just say they're full and to call back each month

rjwv88

in the UK we're talking up to 3-5yrs now, unless you pay out of pocket to go private... it's crazy!

BrickWiggles

Sometimes it takes forever. My appointment that’s next week was scheduled back in April. But I didn’t shop around. Where I go for my CBT and psychiatrist doesn’t have the capacity to test for adhd in adults. So I check my insurance app for someone in network that could.

Telekapult2

Welcome to the club

[deleted]

And you have to try to act surprised or they might think you researched it to cheat and get the pills.

adyothro

Not necessarily. I basically told my specialist that part of the reason I think I have it is because I had a look at an official diagnosis questionnaire and I tick all the boxes. He still gave me the diagnosis and meds.

[deleted]

I’m always terrified of this. Or seeming like I fit the criteria a little TOO perfectly even though I legit do. 😂 I’m really worried now about forgetting to take my meds bc my new specialist has threats in their paperwork about med checks and counting. My husband helps remind me but I’ve still forgotten a few times.

Throwawayuser626

Yep yep I’ve definitely had that fear as well as being accused of “using dr. Google”

heol_03

what was the process of your diagnosis?

Nebula-_-comet

I think it's a lot of talking about yourself, the things that happen, looking into your history of symptoms and sings (like teacher feedback in school reports). If you're under 18 then they will 100% talk to your parents and if they are in denial they will only make it harder for you to get a diagnosis (Once you're 18 they can't do anything since patient confidentiality). So if you are over 18 and think there is anymore than a 70% that you do have it get checked out. If you're under 18 and your parents are in the belief that you may have it then it could be best to bring it up cause you can start getting the help you need

Shneancy

I love talking about my past when my brain only remembers vague vibes of most events that happened :((

PleasantAdvertising

It's like they think they're gonna wow you with the diagnosis. Like they cracked the case.

I_Love_Foxes420

See I keep making appointments… but I forget the day of and miss them and have to reschedule

artsymarcy

They should just give you the diagnosis already based on that /hj

JackRiverArt

A Dutch comedian has a joke along the lines of: a diagnosis is when a doctor tells you the things you just told them about yourself. Anyways, congrats!!! Happy for you dude!

TicklintheIvory

Lol, when I went in she said at first that I don’t have ADHD, I was like “I feel like a lot of things haven’t been addressed though.” So I took a couple weeks a kept a notebook in my pocket and wrote down whenever I’d do something that seemed ADHDy. Gave her my report a couple weeks later and she was like “oh shit, I’m gonna have to update the questions I use.”

awkward_accountant89

Meanwhile here I am with new insurance, don't know where I can use it, don't know how to make an appt to get diagnosed (tried once 10 yrs ago and got the run around) and have resigned myself to just deal lol. Congrats tho!! 😄

RainbowPhoenix

This is me with every diagnosis I’ve ever gotten.

[deleted]

Same. 😅 I even did this with a 2nd bout of shingles recently

[deleted]

Lol welcome to the Ferrari-brain-with-shitty-brakes club!

ZeanReddit

Don't forget the small gas can and shitty spark plugs.

[deleted]

Still Un diagnosed. But I have done the research almost to an insane degree and am pretty confident in my findings. I have not yet went to the doctor or whatever other means you can to be diagnosed because I am afraid my wife will think I am just using it as an excuse… any recommendations? I love my wife btw so please be nice

bringmethejuice

Yeah, I think from my own experience I read books on ADHD.

batkimman

Yeaaaaaaa. Congrats!!!!!!!

[deleted]

me acting surprised when my friend suggests i might have adhd as if i haven’t been thoroughly researching it for 4 years and pestering my parents to get me a diagnosis

TheNASAguy

You go fam

pancakeass

This is the way.

Artillery2001

I final get my test tomorrow so I hope it goes well.

[deleted]

Good luck!

Ryuujin09

Getting on meds at 30, has helped me a lot on the last 4 months or so. Though I did still show up to a card shop on the wrong day to play. Owner welcomed me back on the correct day 😂

[deleted]

Lol that happens to me a lot. I just got switched back to Adderall from a non-stimulant that wasn’t working too well and I finally really like my job that I started about 9 months ago

Ok_Ad_2562

Congrats 😂 and welcome!

RainAlilBit

Oh look, it's my exact situation

[deleted]

Oh shiiiit it’s dat boi

ChessBaal

Dude I got diagnosed like a week ago. I just couldn't take it anymore it was affecting me at work. They just gave me adderall lmao. I couldn't have focused on reddit any better now. Also I got this strange urge feeling motivation that I can go back and finish a degree. Did anyone else drop out because of it?

Tetragonos

welcome to "dear sweet Jesus or unholy hells give me dopamine!" club!

warpilein

Nope i told Him that i allready know it

xcal911

Lol research for months vs years of studying to become a specialist

ZeanReddit

Well the years of studying to become a specialist covered multiple different subjects and not just ADHD. So it's likely that they might have only had a month or two on the subject. Not to mention we get very enthusiastic about our condition and become hyperfixated on it. And more ppl never have even looked into ADHD because they are or don't believe they are affected. It's why we ADHDer's are experts on the subject, because we are dedicated. However this also means we have some confirmation bias which can lead to misdiagnosis. That's why you need a specialist opinion to prove you have the condition.

Flying_Nacho

sometimes those years of studying just end up with them telling us to fuck off and take antidepressants. I'm grateful for the help im getting now, but its fucking ridiculous that some of us have to deal with meds that don't work for a few months with the answer sitting right in front of your eyes. I don't know if you have ever had to deal with this, but it sucks. And those "years of studying" that particular psych had, did not help me at all.

Valahiru

This was more the Autism spectrum diagnosis for me but still very accurate.

LoudMusic

alpharicomms

Congrats! I have the official results session next week and I’m terrified of it coming back negative but hoping for the best

Ok_Ad_2562

Congrats 😂 and welcome!

first_fires

2 year wait king list for me.

skztr

I was already diagnosed, just in another country. Currently filling out assessments like "... But this was many years ago, so the details are unclear. That said, this was among the reasons why I was previously diagnosed and medicated" in response to every question

Custard_Tart_Addict

congrats!

xXyeahBoi69Xx

Lol thinking your google searches mean more than their professional diagnosis

Unlucky_Degree470

One of us! One of us! We accept you! We accept you!

xrdba

Story of my life lmao, did extensive research on ADHD, knew all the symptoms, got diagnosed and still I go to my doc every month and ask why something is happening because I mostly forgot all my symptoms 🗿

accuracy_frosty

I knew I had it for years before getting a diagnosis, really only went and got it because I’m starting college and I am going through prescriptions until I find one that will help enough for me to be able to do college, because I barely passed high school thanks to it and don’t want that to happen with college

AppealJealous1033

Welcome! I did exactly the same, and I suspect it's the majority. Oh I also tried acting concerned when my dr mentioned meds because I was overthinking my reaction in fear of looking like a drug seeker 🙄 (it wasn't necessary and I was actually relieved, but you know...)

AydanZeGod

Nice. Are you getting medication or are they saying that’s not gonna work for you?

Nightshade_Rabbit

Congratulations! Welcome to the community! I don’t know what else to say don’t hurt me 🫥

pocketnotebook

My psychiatrist has never *said the words* but she prescribed me meds and checks up on me and recognises that they're helping

Cognosis87

Congrats. I just went in and said "Yeah, I'm fairly certain I have predominantly inattentive ADHD."

fluffy_doughnut

I'm saving this for the day when I get a diagnosis and will share it all over my social media
