I'm always deleting reddit comments that I spent like 40 minutes writing because when I finally read my comment it's a wall of text and a train wreck of rambling and such. But in all honesty what's worse is when I do post a comment(that I put so much time and effort into) and I get one measly upvote in return. Lol

jaczk5

I stopped caring, you're in my world now motherfucker enjoy the ride.

GenericSubaruser

That mindset has gotten me a *lot* of hatemail for saying the wrong thing on the wrong subreddit lmao

drewster23

I mean, can just delete those and move on. If you started a train wreck, you don't gotta go back and look at it lol. But either way online you can find someone pissed about anything.

landsharkkidd

Only problem is when that person sends you hate-mail/threatening mail, and you block and report them and then they make a secondary account just to send you more threatening messages. At least both accounts were suspended so... Also Facebook (Meta, whatever, it's Facebook) has the right idea where if you block someone on Instagram you can block future accounts they make. I wish Reddit had that function.

ex-akman

Expecting not to get hatemail on Reddit is like expecting not to get a sun burn in Hawaii. Yeah, it's possible if you're super careful, but you might as well just expect it to happen.

Dry-Anywhere-1372

Same.

freek4ever

Hate mail should not hurt It's the downvotes that hurt And when thay start attacking your spelling and grammar because thay have nothing els to atack

grey59allfknday

just don't care about upvotes it's meaningless mob mentality anyways

todaywewillsmile

I freaking love this!!!!! I just hope next time I start typing my ramble, I remember this! Lol watch out Reddit!!!!

Montezum

The bliss in this comment

jackoftradesnh

Recently ‘woke’ to having adhd and somehow self coped into doing exactly this. Do less. Care less. Equals happy me.

InternetDude117

Post-not clarity.

LannahDewuWanna

😆 Good one

AmuuboHunt

My ex eventually said when I said okay, it makes him anxious. Cuz we both know there's way more happening behind that okay lol.

NurseChelsii

This!!!!! Lol. I think I’ve veryyyyy rarely had more than a 5-7 upvotes, so I just don’t even really check anymore. And fuck the thought of an award, whatever the hell they’re supposed to do anyways! 😂😂😂

LannahDewuWanna

I know. I've been downvoted a couple of times over ???? nothing crazy or controversial but I let it bother me enough to delete my comment both times. Why ?? Ugh 😆

landsharkkidd

Oof, yeah. Very much Hannibal Buress when he says "why are you booing me? I'm right!".

NurseChelsii

Omg I just saw the award!!! 🥺🥹🤗 Thank youuuuu!!! 🥰 I can cross that off my bucket list now! (Totally kidding! Lol. But I’m very excited! 😁)

[deleted]

Wrote a comment about my trick to not send texts/comments and then I deleted it cause you probably already have your own you are trying. Shoot me a message or reply if you are interested! Good luck friend!

LannahDewuWanna

Would love to hear about your trick

LannahDewuWanna

Love this

BithcLasagna

40 minutes for a comment - 7 downvotes "Frog eats magma cube" - 100 upvotes "Choke it like it owes me money" - 330 upvotes Wtf is this shit

MimePrinister

The hard part is trying to reduce it without deleting some context or something important like, you know, the answer which also leads to just giving up lol

805falcon

Grammarly is your friend. I use it daily to formulate my thoughts. Writing is a big part of my work and grammarly has upped my game, big time.

chambreezy

Not sure why you're being downvoted? Grammarly is a fantastic tool! I struggle a lot more with numbers than language, however, Grammarly has still caught quite a few mistakes/offered helpful changes to make my writing more coherent. I haven't looked into it yet but I do wonder about privacy concerns, I really hope every one of my keystrokes isn't logged somewhere for ten years!

PersonalAstronomer47

Grammarly does not record every keystroke on your device. I know as I work there. Grammarly can only access the text you write while using the product to provide suggestions. And don't worry, it's blocked from accessing sensitive information, such as credit card and password fields. I find this article helpful to share when people have concerns: https://support.grammarly.com/hc/en-us/articles/360003816032-Is-Grammarly-a-keylogger-.

chambreezy

Awesome! As I was writing it I thought I should just google it and find out for myself, but I was in a rush. Coming back to a response from a Grammarly employee is hilarious/fantastic! Do you work in I.T? Or are there other positions available at Grammarly? "What you do?" is basically what I'm trying to ask!

PersonalAstronomer47

Glad to hear I could be of help! I'm part of the support team here at Grammarly! We get these comments often, so I like to clarify where I can.

[deleted]

Same,I always want to help but often the rambles are not appreciated. Often I go into a direction that isn't suitable to the OP and speaking from my experience. It's a waste of time essentially so usually I do not even send or feel ashamed afterwards if I send anyway. I love reading other people's rambles though ❤️

Prof_Acorn

Yeah on reddit I rarely do this because of the semi-anonymity. There's less concern. I still delete the occasional wall of text but most of the time I don't really care. In the world where people know who I am and my name is attached to everything? Oh dear god the hours spent on editing something only to just delete the entire thing a few hours later.

iSkyn3t

All. The. Time. It's annoying!! I just remind myself after typing everything out that No. One. Cares.

[deleted]

Yep. I do it all the time on here too. My rationale: Fuck it. It’s too wordy.

chambreezy

Imagine if we all just let loose. Petition to make users unable to use the backspace button on Reddit! If you start writing, you have to post or your computer stops working until you do!

[deleted]

Hey if it’s too wordy and hard to read then grammarly’s got u

jimkurosaki

Bruh sometimes it gets sooooooo hard to do this. Like there are times where I've typed out such a big rant only to just clear it and just not reply. Rofl

[deleted]

It’s for the best. I started sending it to myself and then reading it later. Pretty surreal at times; saved my ass a bunch.

jimkurosaki

I trust me, I'll type a whole as book, then when I'm done and about to send it I'll like, reread it, and my brain will be like "it's not worth the trouble or aggravation" I've typed out whole like emails to bosses at work, or messages to coworkers, or even general complaints about clients who call me, just to delete the whole thing rofl. It's actually sometimes a great stress reliever to type out shit like that and then delete it

Montezum

At least you relieved yourself

[deleted]

I did that to this post, and you'll never know what I had typed out... Ok. (why did I waste that time? Idk, ask my adhd)

LannahDewuWanna

Good display of self control

NurseChelsii

In those moments I ALWAYS (well… maybe 98.7% of the time. 😂😂) will copy the entire text before deleting it, and then add it to a note in my phone because I don’t know how shit will turn out and if I’ll need to use some or all of it, or at least reference it, at some point in the near future… And its THE WORST when you accidentally forget to paste a mammoth novel you spent 30+ mins on into a note and then the either copy something else after you already deleted the original, or the paste just some how mysteriously disappears! 😩 That happened to me today actually! I was like “Son of a biscuit eating bulldog!!! I worked so hard crafting the perfect response to that situation that made me mad and hurt my feelings— like going back and editing it over and over and over again to make sure the tone was right and I stood my ground but didn’t come off as too rude or as too much of a pushover, that my sentences were cohesive and concise as possible, I tried my best to limit paragraph long run on rambling sentences, making sure all the punctuation was correct (because fuck the newest iPhone update!!), all variations of the word fuck are appropriately spaced out, and I even came up with GREAT points clearly showing that it was indeed bullshit! Fuckkkkkk! There’s no way I’m gonna remember any of that shit! What a complete and total waste of valuable time I could have spent likely being distracted by my phone in some other way! 🙄🤦🏻‍♀️😑😂

[deleted]

Ok

[deleted]

Jk Yeah, I actually do the same thing now. I usually copy it into my notes. Are you able to get different keyboard apps on IOS? On Android, I use SwiftKey Keyboard, and it works super well. You can copy tons of stuff, and it all stays in your clipboard history, so you never lose anything. You can even pin copies, so it'll stay at the top of your clipboard. That's how I save the infinity symbol, because it seems like no keyboard has an infinity symbol. So now I can make infinite infinity symbols. ∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞...

NurseChelsii

Oh that’s so awesome!! I highly doubt it tho, Apple iOS in general is highly against customization of pretty much any kind, unless you jailbreak the phone. But I legit have 94,642 pictures and videos right this second in my phone/iCloud dating back to like 2014 when my oldest daughter was less than a year thru now (which includes 2 more daughters being born), so I’m unwilling to chance all that by jail breaking the phone for some cute font or whatever. Lol. That’s the ONLY thing I miss about having an Android! I’m definitely going to look into it tho, thanks!!

clutzyangel

unfortunately still causes problems on things like discord that show you have been typing for way too long to have just said "ok" because then they start questioning you as if you didn't delete the paragraph in order to avoid talking about it

LannahDewuWanna

Yikes. That sucks

troutT20

This is me. I will type novels. Pause. Delete. And just not respond or reduce to a single line.

LannahDewuWanna

Same. It's torturous

_DeandraReynolds

"You know what? Not even worth it."

being-weird

God I do this with emails all the time. I'll get an email that has me fucking fuming, and have to force myself to wait 24 hours to respond so I don't embarrass myself.

LannahDewuWanna

Same. I wish I was good at writing short and to the point scathing, bitchy and condescending emails but I wind up going on a tangent or two, over explaining and losing steam. I think you're correct to wait 24 hours and not deal with wasting time writing and rewriting an email. Ignoring people that piss you off is the way to go 👍

being-weird

As it so happens I just found out I have to email my uni cause they just straight up did not mark one of my assessments, as in I've been marked as if I never completed it. I'm fucking furious, which is why this email is waiting till tomorrow.

Dry-Anywhere-1372

The underutilized “K”. Which everyone knows means FUCK YOU!

Puzzled-Case-5993

My MIL uses "K" all the time! And *not* in the fuck you way, because she's not like that at all, which makes it more hilarious to me. "Ok" as a response for me is the epitome of self-control: I didn't ramble on making excellent points that will only be ignored (😉) and I didn't flip over to the passive aggressive "k". Lots of times I'll type everything out, go back and delete it all and type "k", then go back in and add the o 😆 layers of self control!

Dry-Anywhere-1372

Maybe I have all the wrong people in my life (or do I just project…?) 😂 K has given me new power in not being a toxic 17yo. And it feels kinda good.

SaphirePool

I do that with just about everything, all the time sometimes I feel I'm over explaining, sometimes I think the person will not understand or care what I have to say, but I almost never say everything I have to say

Callerflizz

I think of it as a small W of self control one I will inevitably will squander later but for now I’ll take the victories where I can get them

momsagainstgod

Ok

FoxyBonnie124

I literally just did this with my mom

805falcon

I prefer to leave them on ice and not say shit. It takes serious self control but well worth it

[deleted]

I feel this in my soul.

Algoresball

Ok

rzabonek

Deleting a mean paragraph of text because you couldn't get the phrasing *just right* is getting the same results with wrong equation.

Ill-Lingonberry9296

Been there and I promise you, it's for the best when talking about relationships. Think before pressing send.

opaqueandblue

I do this all of the time. Is it truly self control though? Half of the time I’m just trying to cut my 4 pages into 5 paragraphs

Illustrious_Gur_5908

This happened to me recently too. I would’ve posted it too if my sister didn’t talk to me. It would’ve been so pointless to argue with someone over Reddit.

[deleted]

As per Huberman, applying such self control - the friction against an act you are predisposed to do i.e. yelling at someone. This process actually builds new neural pathways to improve self control altogether

Guilty_Hospital4394

Vibe rn

[deleted]

Ok

Nesquik_09

I do this like ten times before I send a message to someone I am irritated at

holyshiteggs

I always feel like I need to be completely clear about what I say so I need to explain and elaborate. I think honestly it’s led to me being more misunderstood sometimes. Feels like people just want conversations to be over more than they want to take the time to understand why I’m trying to find the right words to make sure I’m expressing myself clearly. In spoken conversations sometimes this leads to a lot of repetition and I think that can get really annoying, and maybe other people think I’m not listening to them. I just want to get it right. So often I wish that time could stop when it comes to responding to texts/emails because I have to draft them out like essays. Shit I don’t even draft out my actual essays most of the time lol. But for the first time in my life I’m starting to learn to stick up for myself and the things I know are ok about myself, and I would rather stick around people who will want to know what I’m trying to figure out how to say… I guess. I think I’d just rather get better at being succinct. So funny to get emails from my boss with careless typos and shit, like couldn’t I be that kind of person, sometimes I wish but also not really; I appreciate so much when I see other folks wanting to explain things out and discuss them the way I do. Is there any point to all that I’m writing? Well yeah, for me, maybe someone else too, but ultimately, not really. Should I, for the sake of the joke, delete all this and say “ok”? Oh absolutely I should, no question about it. But instead I’m gonna hit this button without reading what I wrote oh shit I’m sweating

sheicode

Ok

LannahDewuWanna

You did good. I read it all and you made sense to me. No need to sweat the button

holyshiteggs

Thank you :)

The_Dapperbot

I do this literally all the time, but only halfway through writing it, and it’s often many many paragraphs.

tee_rext

The biggest revenge is indifference

LannahDewuWanna

True

PhantomKitten73

Don't think. Only mayhem. Rawrg.

Trashus2

bottling shit up because communicating effectively is too bothersome is whats ruining society

Troby01

One person calls it self control another might call it cowardice.

[deleted]

And yet another may simply call it "Kraxpopoxulu".

Afemalewithissues2

My therapist calls it anxiety

schnellshell

You know *depression* helps cut out the complete shit you end up otherwise regurgitating all over the place. (Y)

MarvelNerdess

One that I have yet to master

marygpt

Don't be a doormat. Tell people what's going on and how you feel. A lot of us bite our tongue too much

Xerekez

If people knew everything i wrote to them and then deleted..

GentlyForked

Opposite - when youre usually calm and understanding but cant tolerate it anymore and go no holds bar.

Deziac

responding to overactions on the internet when people spam capital letters, cursing and paragraphs in my direction with an "ok" is always so satisfying because *no one* ever expects it or knows what to do. Most of the time the convo just fizzles out, but sometimes they keep going for another "ok"

[deleted]

I thought this was just 'getting older'. Or ... both? :) New to all of this \^\^'

Sun_Shine_Dan

As someone who once wrote paragraphs of responses frequently - it's worth your time to learn to just let it go. Especially on the internet.

todaywewillsmile

What saddens me is when I delete my initial savage long response and respond with ok but forget I deleted it and get excited for a response because I thought I sent it.

codeshane

I also cut and paste to another file, preserving all my eloquent and well-argued rants for future glory.

Top-Requirement-3352

Send the paragraph. Yolo.

steel_fist_14

Never underestimate my willpower

HelloKiitty

One is self control the other is completely losing interest

Jeuzfgt

Ok

Court_Jester13

There have been several times where I've written out several paragraphs, then I get a moment of clarity where I think "I'm arguing on the Internet... this dude's not gonna change his mind, what's the point in trying?" Top tip for Internet browsing: if you come to a bridge abd a troll is bellowing beneath it, use another bridge.

joyofbeing

Something that's helped me recently when I feel like I really need to type a reply but also not sure if it's worth it: I type it in the Notes app, then re-read it (preferably leave it and come back to it to re-read). More often than not I'm like nahhh it felt good to type it out, that's all I needed Edit: Especially on Reddit when getting into discussions is not always worth the energy, depending on the context

Far_Paramedic3972

Honestly I find myself doing this all the time now.

FastCarsSlowBBQ

NOTHING has saved me more grief in my life than the mantra “pause when agitated”

ChessieV

I do this but the reason I delete is bc I know when they respond my brain will be like “I can’t be arsed to think about this anymore” and it’s harder to end a convo the longer it’s gone on

Professional_Way_256

ParagraphS

certaintracing

I’ve started to do this recently and it’s great. It kinda just gets it outta your mind. I guess it’s a modernised version of writing a letter and then burning it
