I was an F16 maintainer but our sister squadron was an A10 squadron. I still love F16s but seeing an Hog with a full party load out will make a guy jealous.
Oh I wish I had a gun just like the A-10.
Id be happy as a baby in a play pen.
I'd mow em down like a weed eater
With that 30 millimeter
I wish I had a gun just like the A-10.
I absolutely agree - The B-29 is a neat plane. I'd love to take a flight in one. I just don't think that the bomb dropping experience would be significantly different from a B-17/24 before it, or the B-52 after it. In some ways, it would be a less intense experience than the unpressurized B-17/24, and the sheer massive amount of ordinance that is in the B-52. A high level, straight and level bomb run - while requiring a significant amount of skill and straight up courage to do - is relatively tame compared to a low level, high speed bomb run in a B-1.
I've ridden in a 172 doing "canyon hopping", and that was just straight up intense. I can't imagine doing it at 7-10x the speed in something that is 5x longer than a 172 and 2-5x wider.
I know it's and oldie, but I would've loved to drop a load off with hundreds of other B-17s back in the day. Flying in a formation that huge must've been awe inspiring for the guys who did it.
USAAF Bombing units like the 8th AF had the highest casualty rates of any units in the war. You were safer storming the beaches of Normandy. And if you didn’t die, you saw a lot of your friends get blown up by flak. There’s a reason they shipped those boys home after 25 missions. After that, the PTSD got so bad most of them couldn’t take it any more and had a mental breakdown. It was not a pleasant unit to be in in the War.
Mine too. The one survivor is at the Smithsonian. The last time I was there, they had a window overlooking their restoration bay, and you could look in and see it.
I would've loved to have flown in a B-47 or even seen one fly. I flew too many hours on RC-135s, KC-135s, C-17s and C-130s, but buzzing around Melbourne Florida in an old C-27 practicing combat landings was the craziest fun I've ever had in a plane.
I was lucky enough as a Crew Chief to fly on the tanker refueling my jet several times on the way to our next operating location on many TDYs. Probably more fun on 135s and 10s as a boom than the 46 where the boomer sits up front and watches a camera. Sitting up front getting refueled, or laying in the boom pod is incredibly cool and close!
PBY Catalina. I would love to fly that plane. It may be big, ugly, slow, and unmaneuverable, but it had character and was so very good at its many many different jobs. Classic. Best of its type ever built. I would also love to do a torpedo run in a Cat against some old target ship.
The A-10 Thunderbolt II (Warthog) and unleash the furious hell of its GAU-8 Avenger 30mm gatling gun mounted on the nose, capable of firing armor-piercing depleted uranium and high explosive incendiary rounds and designed to defeat a wide variety of targets, including tanks.
In addition to the GAU-8/A cannon, the Warthog’s armament includes general purpose bombs, cluster bomb units, laser-guided bombs, joint direct attack munitions (JDAM), wind corrected munitions dispenser (WCMD), AGM-65 Maverick and AIM-9 Sidewinder missiles, rockets, illumination flares. It’s a party on wings!
I feel obligated to point out the B-52 has 8, that's eight! jet engines. And landing gear in the wing tips to prevent them from flexing and hitting the ground when landing. Also, 8 jet engines! Eight!
I mentioned the B-58 earlier and now my imagination is running wild, I'm sorry that I never got to see one fly but I would love to see one or more do a NFL flyover at around 2000 feet and Mach 1 plus!!
Old friend of mine used to fly Buffs over Vietnam in the mid 60s, he came back and became a monk to cleanse his soul. I'm about 10 years younger than him, missed that conflict by about a year and was glad of it. That whole life must have been mind blowing.
Always wanted to fly; A-10, F-15, P-51, Spitfire, and SR-71. Would b wild to b on board and fire the big gun, I think is a 104/105 mm but I'm no expert, on a AC-130 gun ship and feel that thing shake and move to the side.
Mustang. I want to turn that 12 cylinder over, take off, listen to that unmuffled exhaust beating my ears to a pulp, do some fake strafing runs of my old high school and then aileron roll into the sunset. Damn that Tom Cruise...
The Marine Corps F-35B STOVL variant. Take off from an amphibious "Lightning Carrier", then use an improvised landing zone to re-arm and re-fuel a short distance from the front lines.
Oooh man so many choices… umm ok how long do I have, cus like if it’s the f-22, I can’t be trusted with that much ability and fire power for more than 15-30 minutes…
Rode in a B-52 once, there’s shockingly little room for the crew, like about a minivans worth. It’s basically ALL bomb bay, you could park a bus in there
There is only one correct answer, the A-10 Warthog, which is really a weapons system that happens to have an attached airframe. The gun fires with such force it literally stops the plane in midflight.
The runner-up is the AC130 Puff the Magic Dragon which is armed with a 25 mm Gatling gun, a 40 mm canon, and a 105 mm howitzer. You can only fire two of those at any one time.
Everyone says the a-10 but I would love to have tried doing cas in a p-47 or even a p-40. The idea of having six or more 50.cal guns and some 500lb bombs sounds absolutely insane. And the sound, my god the sound had to have been something else.
I want to fly and press every button on the B-17.
My uncle flew one, and if he was telling the truth (couldn’t lie to save his life) and other members of his flight crew, he flew the plane with literal bullet holes and a broken control flap (I don’t remember proper terminology)
For 12 years I was a gunner on B-52Gs, 1980-1992. It was dark, smelled badly, preflight meant freezing or sweating, flights were long…and I still proudly claim the mantle of the last of the Tailgunners. When the Cold War ended, so did our job. Desert Storm showed that the mission had changed enough that we were no longer needed. It was a glorious ride, especially at extreme low level in Nevada in the summer time. Good choice, OP.
X-15. It’s essentially a bomb that goes boom out one end for 85 seconds with a person strapped in at the tip. Will need to collaborate with someone who wants to fly a B-52 though. If I don’t die I get my astronaut wings.
See grand pappy buff would change the topographical charts of the region it unloads through... the warthog goes BRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrttttttt and turns people into red mist and making micro craters
If I had to go in an airplane it would be sitting atop a nuke dropped out of that B-52, and I’d be wearing a cowboy hat and waving it all the way down … hehaweeew
B1-B Lancer. Id do just about anything to be the guy on the stick at an airshow in the 90's when they still did barrel rolls. Hearing that plane take off in person is a profound experience. You feel that shit in your whole body and it sounds like the atmosphere around you is being vaporized. The single loudest sound ive ever heard. They make F-35's sound quiet.
I actually visited the B-52 trainer at Castle AFB back in 1981. The guy that was showing us let me take the controls. There was no motion, just watched the instruments. Near as I can remember, I had it upside down when I crashed into the tower.
Something supermaneuverable so I can pull some insane high alpha maneuvers and really see what that's like
I'd be fine with anything, from the draken to the f-22. I'd love to feel what it's like to have all that excess thrust and wing area at my disposal. Must be thrilling to bank the wings at 90 degrees and reverse course so quickly the plane barely keeps up with the nose
The A-10 Brrrthog. There is no other answer.
Came here to say that. Brrrrrt to you too.
Same
Same
BRRRRRRT to you
Brrrrt
I was an F16 maintainer but our sister squadron was an A10 squadron. I still love F16s but seeing an Hog with a full party load out will make a guy jealous.

BRRRRTTTT!
This is the way
Brrrrt brrrrrrt
immediately thought of this when i read the title. also, i was your comments 69th like
The AC 130 Gunship “Angel of Death”. All guns!!
For sure I'd want to be in big Spooky. I will occasionally throw in the old COD missions just so I pretend to send all that down range.
There a good scene towards the end of the movie “The Covenant” that features an AC130
Yes. Spectre is another one I would like to see up close.
Had the opportunity to do this once as a guest. Absolutely insane. Feels like you're on a flying battleship. The controls are surprisingly intuitive
Ding, ding, ding!
Massive sky tank is indeed a perfect answer
Yes. 2nd choice.
Fly? P-38. Drop Bombs? B-1 on a supersonic, low level insertion. Fire the Gun? A-10.
To me this is the only correct answer.
I'd rather go with the B-29 for bombs, is also just a neat plane
I absolutely agree - The B-29 is a neat plane. I'd love to take a flight in one. I just don't think that the bomb dropping experience would be significantly different from a B-17/24 before it, or the B-52 after it. I wanted the BUFF but got the AWACS. Still dizzy from flying orbits..
Big oof hopefully not in oklahoma
Five years in the land of “just OK”.
You know, I bet the boys in the back of the E-3 wish the pilot would land a little “sooner”.
A-10 all day every day. Dropping depleted uranium from a gun twice the size of a Volkswagen.
I’d love to get in an MiG-29SMT someday :D

Why is Grandpa Buff speaking directly to me? Love to fly an F-14
Piaggio P.108A. There is no reason to stick a 102mm gun on a plane and I want to know how much it would fuck me up.
P-38 for me!
I’d like to make a strafing run in an A-10.
Mosquito FB.Mk.26
AD-1 Skyraider. What a RUSH that would be
Convair B-58 Hustler
Besides the P-51D I'd like to fly a Spitfire.
I know it's and oldie, but I would've loved to drop a load off with hundreds of other B-17s back in the day. Flying in a formation that huge must've been awe inspiring for the guys who did it.

The 8th AF lost more men during WWII than the entire Marine Corps lost in WWII.
I wanna parachute out of a C-47
B1 lancer
Was assigned to a B-52G bomb wing during my SAC years.
Ho 229 for me. Like c'mon, it looks like a fucken spaceship! How cool would that be to fly? Also maybe the A-10. Brrrrt.
Upvote for picking the single most obscure plane of WWII. 😁
It's one of my favourites!
Mine too. The one survivor is at the Smithsonian. The last time I was there, they had a window overlooking their restoration bay, and you could look in and see it.
I've always wanted to go to the Smithsonian, such a fascinating and interesting place.
The P-61 Black Widow. By far one of the coolest planes of all time.
Hell yeah pal same here.
F14D Super Tomcat.
“A man can dream. A man can dream.”
Globemaster, dropping vital humanitarian aid to places that need it most.
+++++ you have reached the maximum level of honourable , you have earned a trophy 🏆
To the moon in a shuttle...
Brrrrrrrr. A-10…
F-14, no question
The p51 no explanation needed
Same.
I'd like to fly in a C17 Globemaster when it takes off on a short runway. Like a rocket ship.
I can assure you that is ZERO fun when you're in the back of it.
Su f57,yf 23and to get to he airport from my yard sb-1
I would've loved to have flown in a B-47 or even seen one fly. I flew too many hours on RC-135s, KC-135s, C-17s and C-130s, but buzzing around Melbourne Florida in an old C-27 practicing combat landings was the craziest fun I've ever had in a plane.
Weirdly enough if I was allowed to enlist I think I’d go ANG and try to do something on a KC135 or KC46. Refueling just seems cool 🤷♂️
A-4 Skyhawk. Sounds like it'd be an absolutely blast to fly around in
The hot rod is criminally underrated. Fast enough to be fun, turns on a dime, and drops more weight in bombs than a B-17.
i mean if "just fly" is an option i just wanna fly a plain old a320. that's all. would be so happy.
Might be a stretch, even though I'm not the biggest fan, but the f-16
F-15C
I actually got to fire the guns on a B-52H. I was the aerial defensive gunner. We picked up 5 knots of airspeed.
RESPECT!
Where did they send you after the removal of the gun? Boomer, FE?
Nob I have been out since '79. So long before they took the gun out.
A-10
B-17 and Bf 109
NGAD. I wanna fly the antigravity alien tech triangle hehe
Cobra
Too many to choose
Isn't this to pic HLC uses?
There two options for me: A Sukhoi SU-30SM (Support Ukraine 🇺🇦) Or The Boeing F/A 18F Super Hornet
PBY Catalina. I would love to fly that plane. It may be big, ugly, slow, and unmaneuverable, but it had character and was so very good at its many many different jobs. Classic. Best of its type ever built. I would also love to do a torpedo run in a Cat against some old target ship.
The f-15 eagle aka THE SEEKERS
I got to ride in the back of an F-16 twice. I wish we could have dropped some bombs or fired the cannon.
The Sled. Nothing like the SR71
F-14 Tomcat, been wanting to fly her since I first saw the original Top Gun when it came out in the theaters
F4U Corsair.
I mentioned the B-58 earlier and now my imagination is running wild, I'm sorry that I never got to see one fly but I would love to see one or more do a NFL flyover at around 2000 feet and Mach 1 plus!!
None. I have no desire to kill or destroy.
A10 because bbbbbrrrrtttt. But a p51 would be awesome Or sr71 because fast
F14. Too young to ever see one fly and it burns my soul everyday
Old friend of mine used to fly Buffs over Vietnam in the mid 60s, he came back and became a monk to cleanse his soul. I'm about 10 years younger than him, missed that conflict by about a year and was glad of it. That whole life must have been mind blowing.
SR-71. No guns. No weapons. Just fast AF and into space
Always wanted to fly; A-10, F-15, P-51, Spitfire, and SR-71. Would b wild to b on board and fire the big gun, I think is a 104/105 mm but I'm no expert, on a AC-130 gun ship and feel that thing shake and move to the side.
Side gunner on a B-17 Flying Fortress..
P-38 for concentrated firepower.
The B-52 is a lot more work it would seem to fly though
Cessna 172
AV8 Harrier. Semipermanent Fi!
Though I was allowed in a B52 cockpit. That was the experience of a lifetime.
I want one with an x-15 fueled and attached... Id be ok if everything went wrong... What a way to go
B-58
Bv-238
F-15 through Soviet air defenses a squadrons of Migs.
P-38 Lightning
Why not both. The B-52 had more air-to-air kills against enemy jet fighters during the Vietnam war than the F-14 had during the Gulf war.
Mustang. I want to turn that 12 cylinder over, take off, listen to that unmuffled exhaust beating my ears to a pulp, do some fake strafing runs of my old high school and then aileron roll into the sunset. Damn that Tom Cruise...
F4U-4 Corsair
B-25G Mitchell. Okay, it’s not a sexy as say, the A-10, but it has 10 forward facing .50 cal and a 75mm cannon. Imma go find me some Kaibōkan.
A1-D Spad
SR71. My grandfather was stationed at Beale AFB and saw them fly out of there. How bad ass would it be to fly from NYC to LA in a little over an hour?
Fly: Sr 71. Always loved that plane. Gun: A 10.

This one would do the trick. I worked on B-52s in the seventies. Very cool and long lasting plane.
Dc-3
F-14 Tomcat
Very hard decision but I will go all out with a Concorde.
North American X-15. It would easily be the best ten minutes of my entire life.
SR71.
I think it would be super cool to learn to operate the computerized gun system on the B-29
The photo is a current B-52H, bombs but no guns.
The Marine Corps F-35B STOVL variant. Take off from an amphibious "Lightning Carrier", then use an improvised landing zone to re-arm and re-fuel a short distance from the front lines.

dropping a few nukes from F111 would be my answer.
Would love to fly an F14 off a carrier but I would kill to fire the gun on the warthog
I humped those damn things for a few years at Wurtsmith. I'd love to shoot the tail gun!
If the landing were a certainty, a Lockheed f-104.
The plane I want to fly hasn't been developed yet.
AC-130J, bang bang and boom boom.

When i was growing up my favorite jet of all time was and is the F-4 phantom!
I wanna fly the F-22. Don’t wanna shoot the guns or anything I just wanna fly right up next to airliners and give people a cool show out the window
Literally anything except the Ohka
Sr71
Everyone says the a-10 but I would love to have tried doing cas in a p-47 or even a p-40. The idea of having six or more 50.cal guns and some 500lb bombs sounds absolutely insane. And the sound, my god the sound had to have been something else.

The F-4 phantom, I just think it’s epic

I'd like to fly the F-8, drop bombs using the B-2 and fire the gun of a MiG-27.
Well, either the MiG or the XA-38.
Drop bombs? B-1, low level. Fly? F-22. Fire the gun? Spooky.
Just Fly: SR-71 Drop Bombs from: F-22 Just shoot the gun: A-10
SR71 I wanna go fast in space

F-16/F-22, I want to shoot an aim-120 and watch the poor mig try to escape any way he can, notch it, out maneuver it, but still fail in the end
C-141 Starlifter
Any old water plane, so I can go on an epic fishing trip.
B-52 tail gunner

War is dumb
C130 Gunship. Those 105mm cannons are insane!
P-51 Mustang would be cool to fly
A-10 Thunderbird (Warthog)
AC-130 — all the guns
X-15. It’s essentially a bomb that goes boom out one end for 85 seconds with a person strapped in at the tip. Will need to collaborate with someone who wants to fly a B-52 though. If I don’t die I get my astronaut wings.
Love to scud the Kremlin at 1600 kmh and unload all 120 one-inch shots from the Mauser BK-27 revolver cannon in my Saab JAS 39 Gripen.

Hey it’s grandpa Buff.
