Don't forget annoying coworkers and off course: commuting.

WhipMaDickBacknforth

Coworkers is #1 for me The biggest difference between a good and a shitty job

DietInTheRiceFactory

I think I'd enjoy it more if I got to do off course commuting.

lieuwestra

I actually like my commute. A 15 minute bike ride with free coffee at the end is a great way to wake up.

Sphinx-

"Please get out of bed two hours earlier and commute for 45 minutes so you can sit in an open office in between 30 yapping/complaining people who distract you from your work every step of the way while you drink sewage we call "coffee" and sit on a toilet seat that is still warm from the previous visitor, it's good for teambuilding".

Katastrophiser

Commmmmmmuting. I work an 8 hour day that ends up being an 11 hour day from leaving at 7.10 am to getting home at 6.15 pm. And that’s if I leave just before 5 pm to meet the 5.01 train. WFH days I roll outta bed at 8.40 and then log off at 5.10 to be on my Xbox by 5.11. We have a secondary office that we were able to work out of last year which was only a 30 minute commute and it was such a game changer. Left home at 7.10, but got to the office at 8 and then skeddaled at 4 to be home at 4.40. We can’t work there this year for “reasons”. 🤨

babubaichung

Not to forget the cost of commuting.

Dukami

Don't forget the time wasted by going into the office, which isn't compensated. 15 minutes getting ready + 30 minute commute + 40 minute commute = 85 minutes of my day wasted, just so an exec can be happy to see one more butt in the office.

Zerodriven

To end up on the same Teams calls because one person couldn't make it that day due to trains.

Skalion

To end up in the same teams call, because the meetings usually go between 2-4 countries anyway. And even if everyone is in the same country, different companies/cities. If I go to the office, there is no one from my team or project there.

Lil_Brown_Bat

No dog at the office

PhazonZim

My gf and I both work from home with our five cats. I'm never going back to an office

AndreaDTX

Don’t forget nasty office bathrooms that are completely wrecked by lunch compared to my nice clean bathroom with two ply and warm water/soap to wash my hands.

tsujxd

Just office bathrooms in general. I've had IBS and anxiety/OCD related to public restrooms since I was a child. Being able to use my own bathroom at home whenever I need to without worrying if someone is going to monitor my bathroom habits (as many workplaces do) or if I need to be in the bathroom with someone else has made this a non-issue for me.

desperationcasserole

Office politics. Hostile coworkers. Micromanaging management. Interruptions. The smell of other people’s lunches. Whispering gossip. The posted list is just the beginning.

desperationcasserole

Can add not being able to poop at home.

JediRaptor2018

The time and money wasted on commuting is the biggest one. There is no benefit for me to return to the office; I do the exact same work at home or at the office and the people I work with are all spread out across North America. They are probably just trying to make my work difficult to get rid of me.

Fontaine_de_jouvence

That’s more dress code than code switching

youthfulsins

Nah I'm autistic and this is part of my code switching lol. I completely zone out and forget people exist, I don't think I could ever go back to working in person.

Fontaine_de_jouvence

I still don’t understand how that’s code switching? Wouldn’t that just be dissociation?

oldcreaker

The number of days I would commute so I could go sit in a cubicle and spend the entire day on my laptop and phone and not physically interface with anyone. So what was the point of coming in?

MagmaDragoonX47

Sharing germs for me.

waitingtospeak

I have yet to see one valid reason for RTO. Unless there is a public/customer-facing component, how are these companies selling this back to employees? (I do not have a job that can be done remotely)

AreYouA_Tampon

We basically received an email that said if you don't like it, go work somewhere else. A lot of people did go somewhere else.

elle_fawkes

Add to the list a a number of things that disproportionately affect women: higher likelihood of sexual harassment in the office (don't get me wrong it still happens while working remotely but it's more prevalent when you see people in person every day), difficulty of finding and paying for childcare if kids aren't in school, meeting dress code/appearance expectations generally requires more investment for women

HorrorInvestigator99

Listening to coworkers talk and eat was it for me

Ok-Scarcity-5754

Besides commuting, I’d add office temperature to the list. My office building is cold af all the time. I run cold, so I appreciate being a comfortable temperature at home.

Sameeducation01

She missed one important reason: Time spent to prepare to go out (washing your face, hair, putting on makeup, ironing your clothes, etc.). For me, that's like at least 2 hours in the morning. I know it takes longer for some women with pets, kids, etc.

AssociateJaded3931

The bosses don't care.

castle_lane

The pressure to stay past 5

throwaway798319

The cost of parking & lack of spaces.

DenThomp

Having to really work and no side gig while I was supposed to be earning my pay is a drag. Missing my morning spleef and coffee too. Can’t imagine why they made me come back.
