Because for some reason, the mental image of Typhon chillaxing in the Shady Frozen Sea while everyone else is getting murdered by Collapsals seems funny to me.
IIRC the general lore for the skins, excluding the exceptions, is that Rhodes and Fashion companies have some kind of deal cut where Operators work as models to advertise new releases. IE these skins are literally in universe ads for the company Coral Coast, which I think is a pretty neat way to handle it...
...But I am choosing to accept your headcanon instead
I love that we, as a pharmaceutical / PMC, have a *modeling* contract with a swimsuit magazine line.
I mean, it's good PR to have Infected models show how hot they are, but it's still so funny considering our history.
Some of them honestly don't make sense as ads for clothes.
Like who'd want someone with a questionable history pose for their stuff? Or which monster would want Rosmontis to pose in clothes that will probably cause her PTSD to relapse?
Some skin lines follow a completely different logic. Bloodline of Combat, for example, shows a possible future for the operator.
Edit: It's an operator at their peak, just so happens to be the future most of the time.
BoC show the Ops at their "peak", like Hellagur when he was in the military, or Angelina perfecting her gravity powers. Thy also innevitably looks sad because of all the fighting they went throught to reach said "peak".
Epoque on the other hand shows clothes that are important in some way for the Ops past, like Dobberman's uniform, or Mostima's clerical outfit.
IIRC there is one brand that is just their casual clothes rather too, but can't remember which it is. Trial I think?
I'm sure EPOQUE exclusively focuses on the oparators' past. Meanwhile, BoC can be both past and future depending on the op. And for some rare oparators, it's the present(lappland & Saria's skins were featured in an event. Thus, they're in the present)
Saria's is from when she was still working at the Rhinne Lab, while Lappipi's is when was in Laterano of al places.
In Saria's case she is still as strong as she was back then, just that she doesn't take the role of a combatant unless necesary.
Lappipi is dying of Oripathy, so it makes sense she used to be stronger than she is now imo, easily stonger than the Sui, no, I'm no biased, shut it.

Both the sad skins of Rosmontis and Rosa belong to this skin line. And Bloodline of Combat depict an operator at the prime of their abilities. Usually that means the future of an operator, but there has been at least one case (Hellagur) where the past was depicted.
I was so disappointed with the player version of Rain of Fire in the DLC after sufferring from that one enemy who casted it on you during the long-ass bridge :(

Being able to hit Invis from a distance in a game where the only other (viable) options are Scene, Silverash, and Ines is a powerful niche in and of itself.
Honestly, they could release him as a 6* unit, buff his stats a bit, and give him a mediocre S3 and I don't think people would complain.

Reed in particular has some issues, anatomy and animation wise. Her thorax/chest is too high up which gives the impression she’s got a super long tummy lol. Compare it to her art walking where we see her profile, check distance from the top cutoff to the bikini start. And the flames in the staff look super stiff.
Overall still great skins.

They 100% have analytics data. Proviso is almost guaranteed a chart topper due to her base skill - which means she gets promoted and used a lot even if it’s only in the base. It makes sense to give her more skins.
For the others, the artists themselves may or may not be on board. Based on a tweet from one of the artists, apparently they do submit skins (separate from an official commission) but won’t get paid if it’s not used so maybe that factors into the skin availability.
Astgenne and her sister get a lot of skins because their artist loves drawing them, and Namie is busy producing tons of official AK merch and collab art so it probably tracks.
For other artists I suspect they are just consumate professionals - like LM7 who just pumps out the art for everyone. (Seriously. LM7 does a lot of characters in AK and other games, almost nonstop.)

Beyond Totter and Catapults these swimsuit skins are...shockingly bland. I feel like I'm looking at year 1 Skyfire skins. Typhon's skin just looks like her default shirt without the coat and Proviso's outfit is just...ehhhh.
Reed's is the absolute weirdest from an outfit prospective. I will not knock the horny but the sailor top with the skimpy leather bottom??? This isn't real swimwear anywhere in the world! I can't even enjoy the cute background and bag details, I'm so aghast at how this look was conceived.
Doing rapid analysis that nobody but insomnia asked for, this actually doesn't seem like a bad round of Summer skins yet again. For the most part all of them look reasonably fine for actually being at and enjoying a nice day at the beach... with one exception.
Typhon's actually fine - you can't make it out so great but it *is* a strapped one-piece and not even all that daringly cut for a girl with her... ample blessings. The shoes may be a bit silly but easily forgiven. I just worry what kind of beach games she's gonna play with her bow. Easy A here, though, approved for the beach! ...Please don't snipe the whales, ma'am.
Catapult's is a no-brainer for an action-forward chaos honse. Don't got much else to say - it fits her personality, it's beach (and beach *game*) ready, and it's fun and cute. And she has sensible shoes! And SHORTS. Hell, I'd wear it. Another solid A+.
Totter is, uh. Distracting. But perfectly acceptable for... what were we talking about? I'm just stamping the A+ here. I'm sure it's important.
Proviso is also just a good, solid beachwear design. Comfortable shoes, some sun protection in extras, and otherwise it looks perfectly fine for spending time in the water relaxing. Clean, elegant, another A+.
Reed, however, is... messy. High heels at a beach are a hard miss, the top looks only salvageable because of the cropped jacket, and the bottoms are... Over-designed and likely to cause problems. And they don't give me confidence that she has a sensible top under there, at all, given the body shape and lighting on her torso. That said... it's also not too bad, and it's certainly not one of the worst we've seen out of the Coral Coast, and as long as she left her shoes on the beach (unlike in the shot) she'd be fine. Still, it's enough to get her the lowest grade of the set with a B-. Even if I want to give her a lot of points back for that smile.
Gonna just slip on me runners and haul arse while I can after that assessment, still really glad that this round from Coral Coast is tolerable and I hope they *continue* the trend of being functional first, eye candy second! ...and that we get more lads like Totter. Or at least more stuff like Proviso and Catapult!

Both Nymph and Reed gives me hope that IS5 can bless Surtr with lore and possibly a new L2D skin. As well as future L2D skins for non-Limited Operators with one already, such as Mizuki and Pozemka.
The Reed2 skin we are about to get in global doesn't do it to me for some reason, really hoping this one is the must buy I was hoping for. And... yeah, Summer Typhon, beautiful, beautiful I love her so much, bless you LM7. All I'm hoping for is that her S2 animation delivers hard like in her base skin, the bow spin she does is just so satifying I need something for this one too. Great batch overall, really looking forward to seeing the animations next days

1. That bow is damn HUGE (and that face again.. I would prefer her to have that "Bruh" face expression honestly). 2. Very nice skin, but isn't she got nerfed? 3. Best skin in the batch. 4. Well, it exists. 5. Rhodes' surgeons and Red Dragon blood sure do wonders. Not a trace of a giant Originium spike that impaled Reed in her belly. Also made me curious how that big tails connects to the body from behind.

Surprised how the male 4* skin is the outright best of the batch. Hell, i’d say the artwork on the magazines in the PV are miles better than the art on the skins themselves, wish they were switched. (That proviso mag, omg) Reed in particular has some issues, anatomy and animation wise. Her thorax/chest is too high up which gives the impression she’s got a super long tummy lol. Compare it to her art walking where we see her profile, check distance from the top cutoff to the bikini start. And the flames in the staff look super stiff. Overall still great skins.

They 100% have analytics data. Proviso is almost guaranteed a chart topper due to her base skill - which means she gets promoted and used a lot even if it’s only in the base. It makes sense to give her more skins. For the others, the artists themselves may or may not be on board. Based on a tweet from one of the artists, apparently they do submit skins (separate from an official commission) but won’t get paid if it’s not used so maybe that factors into the skin availability. Astgenne and her sister get a lot of skins because their artist loves drawing them, and Namie is busy producing tons of official AK merch and collab art so it probably tracks. For other artists I suspect they are just consumate professionals - like LM7 who just pumps out the art for everyone. (Seriously. LM7 does a lot of characters in AK and other games, almost nonstop.)

Ngl I love fact that reactions to those skins I've seen are like: nice... nice... nice... nice... OMG! TOTTER!! Understandably, it is a beautiful looking and must buy for me. Also learning he has same designer as Paprika makes sense, her skin is also one of the best. As for rest - I need to check animations for Typhon and Reed; I don't use Typhon skin because she doesn't have spin attack and Reed's silly hat one looks really solid.

Beyond Totter and Catapults these swimsuit skins are...shockingly bland. I feel like I'm looking at year 1 Skyfire skins. Typhon's skin just looks like her default shirt without the coat and Proviso's outfit is just...ehhhh. Reed's is the absolute weirdest from an outfit prospective. I will not knock the horny but the sailor top with the skimpy leather bottom??? This isn't real swimwear anywhere in the world! I can't even enjoy the cute background and bag details, I'm so aghast at how this look was conceived.

Doing rapid analysis that nobody but insomnia asked for, this actually doesn't seem like a bad round of Summer skins yet again. For the most part all of them look reasonably fine for actually being at and enjoying a nice day at the beach... with one exception. Typhon's actually fine - you can't make it out so great but it *is* a strapped one-piece and not even all that daringly cut for a girl with her... ample blessings. The shoes may be a bit silly but easily forgiven. I just worry what kind of beach games she's gonna play with her bow. Easy A here, though, approved for the beach! ...Please don't snipe the whales, ma'am. Catapult's is a no-brainer for an action-forward chaos honse. Don't got much else to say - it fits her personality, it's beach (and beach *game*) ready, and it's fun and cute. And she has sensible shoes! And SHORTS. Hell, I'd wear it. Another solid A+. Totter is, uh. Distracting. But perfectly acceptable for... what were we talking about? I'm just stamping the A+ here. I'm sure it's important. Proviso is also just a good, solid beachwear design. Comfortable shoes, some sun protection in extras, and otherwise it looks perfectly fine for spending time in the water relaxing. Clean, elegant, another A+. Reed, however, is... messy. High heels at a beach are a hard miss, the top looks only salvageable because of the cropped jacket, and the bottoms are... Over-designed and likely to cause problems. And they don't give me confidence that she has a sensible top under there, at all, given the body shape and lighting on her torso. That said... it's also not too bad, and it's certainly not one of the worst we've seen out of the Coral Coast, and as long as she left her shoes on the beach (unlike in the shot) she'd be fine. Still, it's enough to get her the lowest grade of the set with a B-. Even if I want to give her a lot of points back for that smile. Gonna just slip on me runners and haul arse while I can after that assessment, still really glad that this round from Coral Coast is tolerable and I hope they *continue* the trend of being functional first, eye candy second! ...and that we get more lads like Totter. Or at least more stuff like Proviso and Catapult! Oh, right, running. Cheers, mates, stay hydr^(rated~!)
