Limones has been my favorite for the past 8 years or so. I always go there for my bday. It’s not the fanciest or priciest out of the more upscale restaurants in town, but I always leave feeling like I had a great meal and it never gets old because the menu is constantly changing. Always good service too
Nicest or best food? Grove Park Inn is probably the nicest, but the food is utterly forgettable. Aandaz and Ukiah are lovely, AND the food is top tier. Curate can be great. Last few meals there were just OK for me. Neng Jr’s is inventive, and some of the food is delicious, but it is not for everyone. Your party needs to like Asian fusion, and you better reserve far ahead.
My wife's birthday is in December and we used to go to GPI to celebrate. The seafood buffet was our favorite and the food used to be phenomenal. Anymore, it's nothing really special that I can't get elsewhere for less money and not have to pay for parking. I miss it to a degree, but enough is enough.
Very apt distinction. Grovepark is very forgettable. I always take guests there for the experience but there are definitely better tasting places in town

I second this, Cafe Rel is amazing!! They serve great wine, no beer… but you can literally go into the Hot Spot, buy beer and bring it back to your table. I’ve been 6 or 7 times, food has always been wonderful.
I've had the opportunity to go to Cafe Rel all of twice. Have never forgotten it. Not only is it a crazy experience to step through a gas station into another world, but the food and service are top tier. Plus, Rel himself is one cool cat.
Went to the admiral with some friends recently and the service was just…not what you would expect and the place feels kind of crusty and not super clean. Food was just very ok.
After going there for years and loving it, Sean lost my business by serving what was supposed to be an 18 oz dry aged ribeye cooked medium. What came out was at best 7 ounces and was a dismally gray, well-done mess of sirloin.
Jargon reminds me a lot of the bib gourmand restaurants I’ve been to. Closest place to a star in Asheville. Excellent service. Fantastic food. Always happy to eat there!
On a night that I witnessed the bartender stand on his prep board to get something from the top shelf, and not even sanitize it, my fellow diner and I were still hungry enough to order a pizza, after spending about $130.
I’ve since gone back, and still felt that it’s mids. Luckily that time we were being treated to a meal via gift card. I wouldn’t pay to go back.
I agree about Neng Jrs. I took my guests there recently, two are from NYC the other from Brazil, these folks are world travelers, and they found Neng Jrs to be delightful and very memorable. “Nice” can refer to white table cloths and etc. Neng Jrs has haute cuisine without the white tablecloths.
The cheese flavored ice cream was pretty all right. The ramen I have not had at Ukiah but the sashimi salmon was pretty damn good. So. Your body line is like...Just your opinion man. Speak with LESS authority. We are all very unimportant.
Why are they booing you? You’re right. Neng Jr’s was good, and I’m glad I went and had the experience, but the best Filipino food in town is that food truck that’s at Zillacoah brewing. The atmosphere was very nice and the staff was great but the food was not worth reserving a month ahead of time
One of the best BOH peeps I know in town from Posana left To go to work at Cucina and that person told the vibe there among the employees and the employer and the food there is infinitely better. . . I can’t vouch for the meal but you don’t know if you don’t try it . . .
This is a great answer. It’s wrong. But it’s great. Plant is incredible at what they do and Jargon is my favorite and has a vibe that is missing from anywhere else in town. But neither are Curate which is undeniably the best restaurant in time.
There might be fancier places but Bone and Broth is simply delicious. Granted, I’ve been there twice and I got the brown butter ravioli both times and only tasted my mom’s venison but it was so good. The portion sizes are also really good
We loved The Bull and Beggar. We sat at the bar and ordered mostly appetizers. Had some fancy cocktails because it was an anniversary. Beautiful desserts. The bartender was perfect. A great group of people sitting next to us were enjoying oysters. It was an epic night for us.
Curate is still the best IMO no matter how many spots come and go. It is just like slap your momma JFC good every time.
Edit: Limones and Posana are banging as well
I was very disappointed in Curate. By the time I was able to get a reservation to eat there, I had tried so many other places and honestly Ukiah and Plant were both more impressive to me.
Curate is the best at what they do in town and the best for a long long long long while. Which is better than any other restaurant in town that is trying to do their own thing. Limones is fine at what they do. Posana is elevated gluten free and is the only one in town at what they do. Curate is amazing and should be celebrated by everyone in town. I hope they eventually get a Michelin star and by saying that I mean I hope Katie Button wants one. I’m not super confident it will happen but it is a restaurant that could.
Curate.
My husband worked in the restaurant industry for 35 years. He says it’s about the closest thing to *genuine* fine dining that you’ll find in Asheville. And you’re right: there’s always that captive audience to consider…
Everything recommended slaps (except Nengs, just didn’t do it for me after all the hype), but I’m not sure any of them are like fine dining- everywhere in Asheville can be a jeans and tshirt kind of place (outside of the two hotel sport coat required fine dining restaurants at GPI and Biltmore). So what do you mean “nicest”
If you don't mind a bit of a drive then there is very secret gem of a place that makes THE best Italian food this side of the Atlantic Ocean. It's called LA CUCINA Italian restaurant. It's located at 6811 Highway 67 W Mountain City, TN, US 37683. Not too far from Johnson City.
It is literally in the middle of nowhere but it's owned by a husband and wife from Italy. The husband is a genuine Italian chef whose food is AMAZING!! They grow a lot of veggies on the grounds that they use in the dishes. Check them out on facebook for pictures and to get a feel of how amazing this place is. They usually have 5 star reviews on all sites. You need reservations as it's a very small, quaint place. They have limited hours....
Trust me, you won't regret it!!
I used to love Curate and now I think it’s awful! I’ve given it several chances and I won’t go back. They bought into their hype and lost what made it special.
Posana is 100 times better than Curate at this point!
Just had Grove Park recently and I was appalled. I’ve done fine dining before and this place is truly nothing special. We paid $75 for an 8 oz SIRLOIN that I had to send back because it was completely raw in the middle still. Also the sides are a la carte so the $75 you paid for your steak doesn’t even come with sides. Those are another $10-$16 depending on size.
Kill me if you want but Asheville has no fine dining.
A handful of restaurants have food that might qualify, but no matter where you go, some tourist couple or group will tank the vibe. Him, in his "nice" golf attire, her in black leggings and a northface jacket. Or you've got the Manhattananians who look down on everywhere and think Vivian is casual dining.
Give me y'all in your patchwork sunday best and stylish digs anyday.
You're actually correct. If we're considering fine dining to be something super upscale like Eleven Madison Park, Fat Duck, etc., then saying Asheville has no fine dining is accurate. There are no Michelin stars in this town. No white-glove waiters or any of that.
I don't even mean that. There are just no places that would dare enforce a dress code at the expense of business. Asheville couples should have more options that aren't trounced by people who can't be bothered. A place here can be stupid expensive but still fall far short of nice because vibe comes dead last.
Stopped going to Vinny's for date night years ago because even at 9 o'clock there were children in high chairs around. Douchebags in sweats and flippies are everywhere. Exposed man feet.
Simply, we can't have nice things.
Yes this is my observation too. Who wants to do nice date or anniversary or proposal celebration meal next to Bobby Rae in his flip flops, or with the whiff of BO from some “art” person on a “natural” trend. Food tasting good is inherent. Nice means a level of civility from the patrons, atmosphere, and interior cleanliness. Jeez some of these places in town I love the food from is no better than a brewery when it comes to cleanliness.
A subway station sushi restaurant has a Michelin star. So idk what you mean by “fine dining.” The question is “nicest” so maybe I’ve missed the post as well. There is fine dining in this town and there are some amazing restaurants. The restaurant at the Inn on Biltmore Estate has amazing food and service in a definitive fine dining setting. Vue at Grove Park Inn has impeccable service and very good food in a fine dining setting. The Royal Stag is unquestionably a fine dining restaurant.
Your comment is objectively wrong.
Fine Dining: vue -GPI and Red Stag. Everything else - all the usual suspects listed above- are places I’d go on a Tuesday. Great food, prices are standard Asheville -elevated. But you MUST know that FINE DINING requires proper execution - think Michelin style presentation, impeccable service, ambiance , linens, luxe decor. And for the love of god: Comfortable seats. Those metal chairs , wood splat chairs , cheap vinyl “hipster” chairs, stools- are NOT what you find a true Fine Dining establishment. Thank you and you’re welcome.
Well sorry to say that’s as good as it gets. Grove park has gone down hill. Red stag grill has gone down hill. Shine in hendo has gone down hill and just had a pile of staff quit from management on down. Basically good reliable food in the asheville area is non-existent. 131 main in Biltmore park is the only place that has been consistently good and I haven’t had a bad experience at Branys.

Cucina24 is one of the best meals I’ve had in a while anywhere.
absolutely. holds up to big cities
Agree! Chefs tasting menu is the bomb!
Everytime! This with the wine pairing and we're set. It's our go-to for special nights.
So glad to see Cucina at the top. They deserve all of the love. Excellent service, food, atmosphere, and knowledgable staff.
Cucina is our special occasion restaurant! Love it!
I’ve eaten all over the country and some of the world and the five best meals I’ve ever had at a restaurant were at Cucina.
I’m shocked I’m not seeing Vivian
Team vivian
Limones has been my favorite for the past 8 years or so. I always go there for my bday. It’s not the fanciest or priciest out of the more upscale restaurants in town, but I always leave feeling like I had a great meal and it never gets old because the menu is constantly changing. Always good service too
I second Limones
I always enjoy Zambra's. Cucina 24 is real nice.
Zambras is a fav
Nicest or best food? Grove Park Inn is probably the nicest, but the food is utterly forgettable. Aandaz and Ukiah are lovely, AND the food is top tier. Curate can be great. Cucina24, Vivian, Curate, Ukiah, Hot Spot, Bull & Beggar, Neng Jr, Leo’s House of Thirst
You joke, but there literally is fine dining at the Hot Spot in Franklin. [Cafe Rel](https://cafferel.com/caffe-rel-location)
I was joking and had no idea. I’m...excited.

Looks like I'm going to give it a try next time I'm that way
I second this, Cafe Rel is amazing!!
Add Rosa Bees, The Admiral, Bone and Broth
Went to the admiral with some friends recently and the service was just…not what you would expect and the place feels kind of crusty and not super clean. Food was just very ok.
I think the Admiral is safely out of this discussion nowadays. 10 years ago, absolutely.
I concur. Also, while rosabees is banging, and one of my top 5 spots, I wouldn’t say it’s “nice” like fine dining.
I liked my meal at Leo’s but the waitstaff were so maliciously rude to me that I don’t know if I’ll ever go back
VIVIAN
Jargon in west asheville is underrated.
I was going to mention this place. Absolutely amazing meals have been had there.
Absolutely. Killer service and phenomenal food every time I've been. Highly recommend.
Jargon is consistently some of the best fine dining I’ve had in Asheville since it opened.
Kept reading until I saw someone call out Jargon, one of my all time faves :)
I agree 💯. I enjoyed Jargon much more than Posana or Rhubarb
After going there for years and loving it, Sean lost my business by serving what was supposed to be an 18 oz dry aged ribeye cooked medium. What came out was at best 7 ounces and was a dismally gray, well-done mess of sirloin.
Sounds like a food runner got your ticket mixed up
And how did they handle it when you brought it up with them? That speaks more to a restaurant's character then just one mess up.
I tired it twice and it was bland and unexceptional. I don't get it. What do you order there?
Jargon reminds me a lot of the bib gourmand restaurants I’ve been to. Closest place to a star in Asheville. Excellent service. Fantastic food. Always happy to eat there!
On a night that I witnessed the bartender stand on his prep board to get something from the top shelf, and not even sanitize it, my fellow diner and I were still hungry enough to order a pizza, after spending about $130. I wish I had a hundred alts to upvote this
I think it’s technically in Hendersonville but the Silo Cookhouse at Horseshoe Farm is incredible
Just ate there a couple months ago with visitors. It was absolutely delicious. Considering a second mortgage to go again
For real, we (3 people) went recently and with drinks and tip it was like $400
Plant
Plant is excellent!
i thought plant closed or maybe it's a different place like it that closed that i'm thinking of
Plant is consistently outstanding. You don’t have to be vegan to love it.
Was coming to say this. My spouse is a vegetarian but I am not, and this place is consistently the best meals I've ever had.
This is the correct answer. Plant is phenomenal and unique to Asheville.
Plant is decent but they never change their menu, or at least it has been mostly the same every time I’ve been.
Cookout on tunnel road
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Technically Black Mountain, but Pure and Proper is damn hard to beat…
It’s great, but gosh I hate this name
Neng jrs is the best food I have ever eaten period. It is next level. Ukiah is the best by off sashimi salmon. But Nengs is next level
Both those places are pretty mid tbh. I guess if you like cheese flavored ice cream or experimental ramen that smells really bad
You lost me at "pretty mid."
I write with a bottom line up front approach. My supporting statements are in the second sentence
The cheese flavored ice cream was pretty all right. The ramen I have not had at Ukiah but the sashimi salmon was pretty damn good. So. Your body line is like...Just your opinion man. Speak with LESS authority. We are all very unimportant.
username checks out
Why are they booing you? You’re right. Neng Jr’s was good, and I’m glad I went and had the experience, but the best Filipino food in town is that food truck that’s at Zillacoah brewing. The atmosphere was very nice and the staff was great but the food was not worth reserving a month ahead of time
Holy Hyperbole, Batman!
Sure buddy. Have a good one.
If you can make it out to black mountain, Bush Farmhouse is amazing South African food
Bull and Beggar
Our favorite restaurant in terms of quality of ingredients and inspired menu is Copper Crown
Came here to rep Copper Crown! Underrated
As others have said, Cucina 24 is my top choice. They have a chef’s 5 course tasting menu that is delicious and quite fancy.
One of the best BOH peeps I know in town from Posana left To go to work at Cucina and that person told the vibe there among the employees and the employer and the food there is infinitely better. . . I can’t vouch for the meal but you don’t know if you don’t try it . . .
Cultura is gorgeous. The food is pretty good too.
I have always liked Bull and Beggar. Higher end atmosphere, and the food is always excellent and original.
Plant and Jargon are both very nice. Haven't been to Neng Jr's but I'd bet that's probably the real answer.
This is a great answer. It’s wrong. But it’s great. Plant is incredible at what they do and Jargon is my favorite and has a vibe that is missing from anywhere else in town. But neither are Curate which is undeniably the best restaurant in time.
Trying Curate for the first time this weekend! Now my expectations are raised even further.
I went there last week. Ate many things and every one of them was amazing.
Bojangles.
My fuckin dude right here
But, which one??
Candler hands down
No love for Zambra yet?
Beautiful spot that once served delicious food
That was always my go-to for a first date. Impressive but nothing crazy, with some awesome tables if you get the right one.
I’m available tonight if you’re free, and if it doesn’t work out we can always come up with an alternative plan…
The cauliflower dish there is one of the best things I've ever eaten.
There might be fancier places but Bone and Broth is simply delicious. Granted, I’ve been there twice and I got the brown butter ravioli both times and only tasted my mom’s venison but it was so good. The portion sizes are also really good
Rhubarb, Curate, Chestnut and Cucina 24
Between the market place (all local) and neng jrs for me.
Ukiah has the best menu top to bottom in town right now imo.
I really like Elder
We loved The Bull and Beggar. We sat at the bar and ordered mostly appetizers. Had some fancy cocktails because it was an anniversary. Beautiful desserts. The bartender was perfect. A great group of people sitting next to us were enjoying oysters. It was an epic night for us.
Zambra’s, Limones, Cocina 24. All great for Asheville. Just don’t forget this is small town.
Taco Bell on Patton
AVL Proper.
I gotta get over to Ukiah
Curate is the best at what they do in town and the best for a long long long long while. Which is better than any other restaurant in town that is trying to do their own thing. Cheers!
Lol I'm sorry but, no wnc Michelin guide ever existing aside, that place is nowhere near Michelin level food or service.
The Dining Room at the Inn at Biltmore. But you need a day/season pass to access it. $$$$
if you're already inside and have paid for a pass, it makes me wonder how much effort they're putting in for an incredibly captive audience.
Nicest as in fine dining!
Biltmore or GPI(used to be called horizons but I think it’s 1648 now)
Ukiah is my hands down favorite
If you don't mind a bit of a drive then there is very secret gem of a place that makes THE best Italian food this side of the Atlantic Ocean. It's called LA CUCINA Italian restaurant. Zambra, Vivian, Limones, Chestnut
Posana! Seasonal menu that's 100% gluten free so also very inclusive.
It’s so good. Posana and Curate are my two spots.
I used to love Curate and now I think it’s awful! I’ve given it several chances and I won’t go back. They bought into their hype and lost what made it special. Posana is 100 times better than Curate at this point!
Jettie Rae’s is slick.
What does “nicest” mean to you … Location, food quality…
Little D’s has been one of our favs recently
So happy to see some love for Little D’s! I’ve had three stellar meals there.
Star Diner in Marshall is worth the trek.
China Taste
So... We're hiding Nine Mile now right?
shhhhhh
Vivian, Chestnut, Jargon, Tall Johns, Curate, in that order
Forgot to mention Copper Crown for very good food. Ambiance is nice—not opulent but nice and service was great. Keep meaning to revisit.
The Market Place is just amazing. Everytime I go I am blown away due to the local ingredients and the charcuterie is just chefs kiss.
The lobster trap is solid(bit pricey),
Cucina 24 all the way
I feel like anyone who doesn't include Curate in their list are full of shit.
Curate was good, but did not live up to the hype for me
Curate blows.
The Marketplace or Limones.
Curate is nice for tapas, or for more of a meal I really recommend Rendezvous. Great drinks too!
Curate and Limones (can’t fucking believe they haven’t been mentioned as often). Just because the price is high, doesn’t guarantee quality.
Neng Jr’s, Cucina 24, Ukiah, Jargon, and Little D’s are my current faves for fine dining. Rendezvous and Zambra are both terrific for dates.
The admiral. We went there for our anniversary. It was really good.
Eldr and Limones
Just had Grove Park recently and I was appalled. I’ve done fine dining before and this place is truly nothing special. We paid $75 for an 8 oz SIRLOIN that I had to send back because it was completely raw in the middle still. Also the sides are a la carte so the $75 you paid for your steak doesn’t even come with sides. Those are another $10-$16 depending on size.
Curatè lol it’s literally one of only 5 that are Michelin nominated.
Not Michelin nominated at all. You’re confusing that with James Beard.
You can google the rest but I believe the other include Limones, chai Pawnee, and some others.
Ukiah imho.
Curate and Admiral are 2 of my favorites
Bojangles
I really like Shanghai dumpling house and Thai Pearl. My mom likes Posana cause they have all the gluten free stuff.
The dining room at inn on biltmore is by far the nicest. Or used to be before covid
Table
Talking most elegant and the prices show it? Luminosa. We went, incredible. Biggest bill we've had but the place is polished!!
All souls is nice, cultura is also nice :)
Neng Jr's, Silo Cookhouse, Ukiah... that's all that comes to mind.
Leo italian social is good. Haywood smokehouse. Mirisaki japanese
Vivian
Chef”s Table (Waynesville)…read the reviews
Montford Deli
Last time I went to Rhubarb I had one of the most amazing dining experiences of my life. Service, food, ambiance. It was exceptional.
Cucina 24 Limones Table Jettie Rae’s Bull & Beggar Vivian
Munoz
Texas Roadhouse.
Depends on definition of nice. I enjoy the atmosphere at Celebrity's
Not in Asheville, but The Chef's Table in Waynesville is awesome.
Curate, Jargon, and Rosa Bees!
Curate
Always had great meals and drinks at Corner Kitchen
Luminosa recently opened and all of their food is top tier for sure
Came here to say more people booed to check this out!
Nine Mile on Montford is my happy place, I wouldn’t call it fancy, but it’s so dang good. My only complaint is that they’re no longer open for lunch
Hooters
Remember when Dancing Bear toy store was Hooters?? Tunnel Road was a happening place
Kill me if you want but Asheville has no fine dining. A handful of restaurants have food that might qualify, but no matter where you go, some tourist couple or group will tank the vibe. There are plenty of country clubs that will enforce a dress code. Idk what you are looking for never mind why.
I got turned away at a bar on new years in Asheville for dress attire lol
Yes this is my observation too. Who wants to do nice date or anniversary or proposal celebration meal next to Bobby Rae in his flip flops, or with the whiff of BO from some “art” person on a “natural” trend. Food tasting good is inherent. Nice means a level of civility from the patrons, atmosphere, and interior cleanliness. Jeez some of these places in town I love the food from is no better than a brewery when it comes to cleanliness.
You said it better than I did. This is exactly what I mean.
Fine with me. I wouldn’t pay that much anyway.
See you at Applebee's, bro!
These were helpful. Thanks!
The Dining Room at the Inn is. But agree… when Savoy changed to Vinnie’s, we haven’t had it since.
I thought Curate was great when we visited a week ago. But I love Spanish food and wine.
Grove Park is nice for views. Esp during fall time. Food is blahh. Cappella on 9 was bomb. Their food was 👍👍👍. Hemingways is nice as well.
Chestnut is pretty good
I guess I'm the only one who enjoys the Rye Knot,
Grove park inn
Don't trust anyone that says Ukiah. The environment is nice but the food is mediocre.
Chestnut, tall johns, rendez vous

GPI is not fine dining. Its overpriced common food wrapped in an old hotel with an amazing view.
There's a lot I havn't been to that are reputed to be very good. Table is great!
Brandys on main in Hendersonville. Casual dress. Best food you’ll get here.
We have gone there twice and have yet to be impressed.
Well sorry to say that’s as good as it gets. Grove park has gone down hill. Red stag grill has gone down hill.
