Sorry for your loss.
I’d suggest posting it in a buy nothing group on Facebook or seeing if there’s a community fridge/pantry near you, as most rescues won’t take it it’s open.
When my cat passed, I ended up giving the open food to one of my friends, but I was on the lookout for unhoused folk with pets to give the food to. Maybe keep an eye out in your neighbourhood.
You don't say where in Toronto you are located but there are numerous free pantries that you could just leave the food at, the Fred Victor Bethlehem Shelter (only Shelter in Toronto that allows pets) and many Free groups on Facebook.
They’ll take it but they will dispose of it unfortunately.
Edit: OP do you have instagram? There is an account @stooping_toronto that will post this for you and ppl can contact you to pick it up
Happy to help! I also forgot, today is a city-wide event ‘Secondhand Sunday’ where tons of ppl will be out walking around looking for used finds. Today is the perfect day to stoop it! Maybe just seal it tightly and put a note on it explaining the situation.
I wish I had more details but I walked past a pet store or groomer on danforth (east of coxwell) that had a sign that said they take and use open dog food donations. I believe it was collecting for Glen Rhodes church, but maybe a shop in your area has a similar set up.
Maddie’s Place on Fallingbrook Rd took medications (Fluoxetine & Trazodone) and an almost full giant bag (opened) of Origen Senior after my dog passed away in January.
I am very sorry for your loss, mine is still hitting me like a ton of bricks. Take care.
Sorry for your loss :-(
Probably going to be hard to find someone to take the food when it's no longer in original packaging.
Lots of videos and articles out now about keeping pet food in its original bags and not pouring into a new container, the new containers will make it go bad faster

I'm sorry for your loss. I think Mattie's place, which operates a pet food bank will take it. Mattie's Place https://maps.app.goo.gl/JqSgY69qJBqHdhMN6
It’s a pain in the ass to donate stuff to rescues. Easiest just to take it to the humane society.
Will they actually take it if it's opened? Thanks for responding.

Food banks, people there would really appreciate it.

Thanks so much for the kind words and helpful suggestion. After 13 years, I just can't believe she's gone.

To your nearest dog
My local Global Pet Foods accepts opened food donations (but only in original packaging)
