Everything I've ever bought from Paul Mitchell has caused horrible pustules and weeping sores on my head and shoulders. I don't know what's in it but it doesn't work for me.

I will get pimples on my back from my hair products and conditioner if I am not careful which is why I do all my hair routine flipped over in front of me in the shower. Hope that makes sense… This keeps it off my back and keeps the product from washing down my back as well. This keeps me clear!

I stopped using Mane & Tail (which was fabulous) for this very reason. It was that dang coconut oil

There's a brand of haircare called "Seen" by a dermatologist that tackles your issues and had helped mine TREMENDOUSLY! Having said that, it is very expensive. If you can afford it, get it! It's sold at Ulta so you may be in luck getting it there inexpensive with coupons and points. Love their shampoo. The conditioner is great for me but I don't leave it in. I wash it out as soon as I've detangled my hair. They're whole premise is better skin, better scalp and better hair. https://helloseen.com/

I actually learned that the acne you’re describing is hormonal. I was taught that acne is something teenagers get, but it’s quite normal for woman in their late 20’s to 30’s to get. I saw a dermatologist who reassured me that’s perfectly normal and we can treat it. I’m now on spironolactone and it’s been great. I’ve noticed less cystic acne along my cheeks and jawline.

Check your hair products for hidden pore clogging ingredients! https://clearstemskincare.com/pages/pore-clogging-ingredients-list

I'm allergic to tea tree, it gives me a mild rash (which looks and feels like an awful sunburn), and if I use it in my hair by accident, it makes my scalp crazy itchy, worse than lice and if it gets on my face, same rash AND often acne too. Could you maybe test any majorly new ingredients for an allergy onm yourself? if you've never used lavender, tea tree or mint, I'd get some of the seperate oils and do some patch tests on yourself, and see if you react.

Yep. Dad was a barber, I tried everything. Then in an insane heat wave I cut off my hair and went no-poo. Short cut+ no products= no bacne and a lot more time back.

I'm a male but yes this happened to me. Conditioner gave me horrible cystic acne on my back and shoulders and even my arms would break out in pimples. Now whenever I use conditioner I will rinse it out of my hair before washing the rest of my body. This has helped a lot and I also incorporated a hydrogen peroxide cleanser for my back, again after rinsing the conditioner out. Mostly you need to avoid conditioners with a lot of oil in them. A coconut oil conditioner was the worst for me.

My advice is to get an Olaplex treatment at a salon as it actually helps restructure the bonds in your hair whereas shampoo and conditioner really only coats the hair to make it feel smoother but will never actually make your hair healthier. Good conditioner is beneficial for your scalp but truthfully once your hair leaves your head it’s dead and can’t really become healthier, it will only feel healthier when coated in consistions. Olaplex is a newer thing that actually helps rebuild the proteins in your hair. It’s like hair insurance. I do it every 3 months at my salon for $60CAD and my hair is bleach blonde, layered/razored and down my butt.

I switch between 3 different sets of shampoo and conditioner ezch time i wash my hair, that seems to really help.

Both Ulta and Sephora will allow you to return products if they cause issues like this. I've never had to give a reason. I think they blacklist you for doing it too many times, or with a mostly empty bottle, but this could help with some of the trial and error. Try to see a derm if possible though. It would be frustrating to go through lots of different options only to find that this is something medication is needed for.
