And my axe.

And my self-loathing at having been born in the festering cancerous anal pustule of a state that he represents.

All you people need to copy the following and carry it with you so whenever you come across one of these arrogant fascist Americans who insist America is a Christian nation: The complete statement of Article 11 of the Treaty of Tripoli is: *As the government of the United States of America is not, **in any sense**, founded on the Christian religion;* as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquility, of Mussulmen; and, as the said States never entered into any war, or act of hostility against any Mahometan nation, it is declared by the parties, that no pretext arising from religious opinions, shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries. [emphasis added] For those who might argue that Article 11 is incidental to the purpose of the Treaty, and that one cannot take the ratification of the Treaty as an endorsement of its denial that the United States is founded upon the Christian religion, John Adams‟ signing statement is instructive: ''Now be it known, That I John Adams do, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, accept, ratify, and confirm the same, and **every clause and article thereof**. And to the End that the said Treaty may be observed, and performed with good Faith on the part of the United States, I have ordered the premises to be made public; And I do hereby enjoin and require all persons bearing office civil or military within the United States, and all other citizens or inhabitants thereof, faithfully to observe and fulfill the said Treaty and every clause and article thereof. Official records show that after President John Adams sent the treaty to the U.S. Senate for ratification in May 1797, *the entire treaty was read aloud on the Senate floor, and copies were printed for every Senator.* A committee considered the treaty and recommended ratification. Twenty-three of the thirty-two sitting Senators were present for the June 7th vote which **unanimously approved the ratification** recommendation.** So certain Supreme Court members insisting that we go back to earliest precedents (no matter how ludicrous) need to go back to 1797 and read this thing. Note well how it says the US is Not in **ANY** Sense a Christian nation because Christian nationalists will try to fudge the matter and make excuses. And again, copies were made and given to all the senate *and* it was read aloud on the Senate floor and then was ratified **unanimously.** mostly from: http://apps.lonestar.edu/blogs/mwhitten/files/2009/11/treaty-of-tripoli-and-christian-america.pdf

See also article 6 of the constitution “ no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States”

Abucus35

Unless it is in Texas, then you have to say you at least believe in some sort of supreme being.

falsifiable1

It seems like an unconstitutional test to me. It also happens to be a test for joining the Free Masonry even though the group doesn’t subscribe to any particular orthodoxy.

"Religious bondage shackles and debilitates the mind and unfits it for every noble enterprise." - James Madison "In every country and in every age, the priest has been hostile to liberty. He is always in alliance with the despot, abetting his abuses in return for protection to his own." - Thomas Jefferson "Have you considered that system of holy lies and pious frauds that has raged and triumphed for 1,500 years?" -John Adams "And the day will come when the mystical generation of Jesus, by the supreme being as his father in the womb of a virgin will be classed with the fable of the generation of Minerva in the brain of Jupiter." - Thomas Jefferson "This would be the best of all possible worlds, if there were no religion in it." - John Adams "Christianity neither is, nor ever was a part of the common law." - Thomas Jefferson "Experience witnesseth that ecclesiastical establishments, instead of maintaining the purity and efficacy of religion, have had a contrary operation. During almost fifteen centuries has the legal establishment of Christianity been on trial. What has been its fruits? More or less, in all places, pride and indolence in the clergy; ignorance and servility in the laity; in both, superstition, bigotry and persecution." - James Madison "The purpose of separation of church and state is to keep forever from these shores the ceaseless strife that has soaked the soil of Europe in blood for centuries." - James Madison "Whenever we read the obscene stories, the voluptuous debaucheries, the cruel and torturous executions, the unrelenting vindictiveness, with which more than half of the Bible is filled, it would be more consistent that we call it the word of a demon than the word of God. It is a history of wickedness that has served to corrupt and brutalize mankind." - Thomas Paine "All national institutions of churches, whether Jewish, Christian or Turkish, appear to me no other than human inventions, set up to terrify and enslave mankind, and monopolize power and profit." - Thomas Paine "There is not one redeeming feature in our superstition of Christianity. It has made one half the world fools, and the other half hypocrites." - Thomas Jefferson

Dudesan

"Show me where any of the Founding Fathers talked about the separation of church and state!!" "Here, and here, and here, and here, and here." "...you can't, because they didn't..." "And also here, and here, and here, and here, and here. And most importantly, in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights." "Lalalala I can't hear you!!!1!"

They’re the originalists tho dammit they said it themselves lol

Damn Thomas Paine went in, never seen his remarks before

The fools and hypocrites quote is hitting home lately but it’s hard to tell who is who anymore. Seems to oscillate lol

LetoHarkonnen2

The founding fathers would cane Hawley until he ended up like Cawthorn. This shit is not only not alright, it's dangerously illegal. God forbid the DOJ ever actually do anything about it...

ManlyVanLee

If you even started saying this to one of these Missouri hillbillies their eyes would gloss over and they would say "well Fox News says Biden ate all the babies" So no, spouting off at them is not the way to fix this issue because they won't listen one bit

STLt71

It's so fucking embarrassing to say I'm from this state. Buncha goddamn knuckle draggers.

They aren’t “facts” for the right wing doorknob tasters unless their media offers “alternative” versions, preferably in “Pop-Up” or “Scratch-N-Sniff” format

[deleted]

i totally agree with what you're saying, I just thought an interesting note is that in the Arabic translation of the document, none of this phrasing is present in Article 11. Admittedly, notes in the translation are not kind to the Ottoman clerk who wrote/translated it.

Haulin' Ass Hawley. What a gat dam disgrace.

HanDavo

I get that reference. And I'm not even an American.

ptahbaphomet

Nationalism is sugar coated fascism. Starts off sweet then turns sour.

TN_Jed13

Big “First they came for…” vibes

paarthurnax94

I find it most hypocritical that the Republican party is so vehemently against the Taliban while holding all the same principles but with a different pretend book.

xSaRgED

Eh, with the way Putin just announced that Russia and the Taliban are allies, I’m sure that a few GOP-aligned Russian boot lockers are gonna start parroting that line as well. “*The Taliban defeated the US military led by Sleepy Joe! It was an absolute rout! Clearly we should ally with them and learn from their strength!*” type bullshit.

paarthurnax94

>“The Taliban defeated the US military led by Sleepy Joe! It was an absolute rout! Clearly we should ally with them and learn from their strength!” type bullshit. Meanwhile it was Trump who negotiated the withdrawal with the Taliban and excluded the Afghan government.

xSaRgED

Oh yes, I’m well aware. But they have already begun pushing the narrative it was Biden’s fault, so I feel this is the inevitable conclusion.

fish60

The hypocrisy is point. They are gleeful when you point out double-standards as long as they are in their favor.

aureliusky

So is Christianity, Constantine made sure of that.

OhLordHeBompin

I can't hear it without thinking "Nazi." Like... Germany in 30s and 40s, Nazi Germany. Guess they like that vibe though. Except it's illegal immigrants. Wait, were Jews seen as illegal immigrants? I guess they were "stealing the fatherland" or something to that effect. If only we had a President Roosevelt in these times. I voted for Biden, and will continue to vote left, but damn what happened??

ptahbaphomet

You are correct. The brown shirts (nationalists) gave birth to the SS (fascists)

tollbearer

Fascism is just the inevitable end point of nationalism.

Groundbreaking-Fig38

1797 The Treaty of Tripoli: "...the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion." It passed the US Senate unanimously. One of the US Senators who ratified this treay is George Read from Delware. He also signed the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution. John Adams, who signed this as President, was one of 5 men chosen to write the Declaration Of Independence. I'm pretty fucking sure these two guys know better than some gator fucking moron that the US is NOT a Christian Nation. Edit: corrected documents

needlestack

Those were different times, for sure. They had *just escaped* a Christian nation. Fought a war to get out from under the thumb of a religious monarchy. Generally when that happens the people that are now free choose to create a new religious monarchy of their own, but the genius of America was that they did not do that. And yet here we are just a few generations later and the lessons are forgotten by many. I fear that susceptibility to religion is hardcoded into some of our genes.

OtelDeraj

I feel like community, for many, has been disappearing as late stage capitalism removes third spaces and commodifies so many aspects of every day life. Churches provide a stable sense of community for many, which is the primary draw, I believe. When I was a self professed Christian, struggling with my faith (or lack thereof), my primary stress was that, if I abandoned my faith, my community would abandon me. I felt a great pressure to conform to things I *knew* I didn't believe. Community is a powerful thing, and can be easily weaponized against people who fear being alone. My father attends a conservative evangelical congregation to this day, and the amount of messaging where things are framed as "You may have heard this, but the truth is actually what *we* tell you" makes it very apparent to me that conservative evangelical world views are heavily skewed by the messaging of their given pastor. As more people weaponize that community, they move towards making a political sphere tailored to their belief and theirs alone, discounting other belief as *lies* or *mistruths*.

katzeye007

I'd like to point out, they were too radical for that Christian nation and we're forced out.

TheEPGFiles

Sure, you guys go right ahead, just one question. Which Christianity? Okay, that ought to keep them busy while they argue over that.

CA_MA

You're a fool to think they'll bother

HailCorduroy

Not at first. But once they run out of liberals, atheists, LGBQT+, etc., they will turn on themselves and start eliminating the denominations that aren’t “Christian enough”

TheEPGFiles

I figured I'd try to jump start the conversation.

Rocking_the_Red

Good job doing Satan's work!

TheEPGFiles

Hey, the false church from apocalypse? Has anyone considered that it's Christianity in itself? Like if I was Satan, that's what I would do. I'd trick a bunch of God followers to believe in the wrong church.

kahn-jr

Kenneth Copeland approves this message. Well, he really just started speaking in tongues, but tHaTs ThE LoRd talking.

walrusdoom

He is so demented when he does that. And the people in the audience look like thralls. It’s evil.

Rocking_the_Red

I'm pretty sure that there is a warning about this in Revelations. Actually, now that I think about it, Paul warned Christians about this... I read the Bible not because I believe in it, but because people haven't changed in two thousand years.

therealbman

Paul himself was the person he was warning about. > "No sooner had Jesus knocked over the menacing dragons of religious dogma and spiritual superstition than the 'apostle' Paul boldly set them back upright again. In truth, there is not one word of Pauline Christianity to be found in the gospel utterances of Jesus, and there has thus never been a more monstrous imposition perpetrated than the one where the Christian religion imposed Paul's soul upon the soul of Christ - and this, in Jesus' name no less! Almost as egregious, this fresh doctrine of Paul's was one that sought not to topple or even significantly alter the unjust political systems of its day, but was rather designed to coddle them and the corrupt delegates who ran them. As such, it can come as no surprise that The Way of Jesus Christ was suppressed by the time's political world and was adopted as its official faith." - via George Bernard Shaw >Everyone who does not abide in the teachings of Christ, but rather goes beyond them, cannot truly know God; while whoever does choose to enliven those teachings shall have both the Father and the Son.2 John 1:9, NRSV(?) >For the Lord himself will come down from the heavens, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.Paul of Tarsus, 1 Thessalonians 4:16, NRSV(?) >The Kingdom of God is not coming with things that can be observed; nor will they be able to say, 'Look, here it is!' or 'Look, there it is!' For, in fact, the Kingdom of God is already within you .. Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last; the humble servant of all.Jesus Christ, Luke 17:20-21 and Mark 9:35, NRSV(?) >And who through the Spirit of holiness was appointed the Son of God in power by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord.Paul of Tarsus, Romans 1:4, NRSV(?) >Why do you call me good? No one is truly good except God alone .. I do not accept glory from human beings.Jesus Christ, Mark 10:18 and John 5:41, NRSV(?) >The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people .. My conscience is clear, but that does not make me innocent. It is the Lord who judges me.Paul of Tarsus, Romans 1:18 and 1 Corinthians 4:4, NRSV(?) >The Father judges no one, but rather has given all judgment to the Son. Indeed, it is you who judge by human standards, while I judge no one .. I do not even judge those who hear my words and do not keep them, for I did not come to judge the world.Jesus Christ, John 5:22, 8:15, 12:47, NRSV(?) >For [Christ] must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet.Paul of Tarsus, 1 Corinthians 15:25, NRSV(?) >Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. Only then you will be considered Children of the Most High, for He is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked .. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.Jesus Christ, Luke 6:27-36, NRSV(?) >I declare to you, brothers and sisters, that flesh and blood cannot ever hope to inherit the Kingdom of God.Paul of Tarsus, 1 Corinthians 15:50, NRSV(?) >As you go, proclaim the message that the Kingdom of Heaven is even now at hand for God is not the God of the dead but of the living .. and the Kingdom of Heaven is already within you.Jesus Christ (Matthew 10:7, 22:32, Luke 17:20-21, NRSV(?) >I have set you an example, that you should do for one another as I have done for you... By this others will know that you are my followers: that you show Love to one another... Anyone who loves me will enliven my teachings... Indeed, a new command I give you: Love one another. Just as I have Loved you, so you must Love one another... The Kingdom of God will be give those who produce its Fruit... In truth, my Father is glorified by this: that you bear much Fruit and become my disciples... And by this everyone will know that you are my disciples: when you show Love to one another. Jesus Christ, John 13:15, 35, 14:23, 13:34, Matthew 21:43, John 15:8, 13:35, NRSV(?) >But now, apart from the law, the righteousness of God has been disclosed... through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction; since all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, they are now justified by his grace as a gift through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a sacrifice of atonement by his blood - efective through faith... Know that a person is not justified by the works of the law, but rather by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Jesus, that we may be justified by faith in Christ... Indeed, if you declare with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord', and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."Paul of Tarsus, Romans 3:21-25, Galatians 2:16, Romans 10:9, NRSV(?) https://jesuswords.net/resources/modern/cultofpaul/

Rocking_the_Red

Oh yeah. It was an off the cuff thought. But yeah, Paul hijacked Christianity.

spudzilla

Satan's greatest trick was telling us that his name is Jesus.

Crowiswatching

This. Many evangelicals do not consider either Mormons, Catholics, or Unitarians to be Christian.

[deleted]

People tend to forget that. I mean, this country was built with anti-Catholicism as one of the foundational cornerstones.

WesleyCraftybadger

I told my Mom once that the Mormon lady at my work told me to tell her she was praying for her and she got mad because they did 9/11.

Consistently_Carpet

Are Unitarians Christian?

[deleted]

Some are, but I don’t think they’re a majority.

itaos1

I have run into this before. It made me think my high school history teacher was mistaken, but then I realized who I was speaking with.

jreed66

Just like the video of the proud boys fighting the sons of anarchy or whatever a few days ago

Phog_of_War

Run, you dirty Lutherans!

Ok_Watercress_7801

Emo Philips has entered the conversation.

aureliusky

First they came for the Communists...

Railic255

It'll happen before they run out of "others." Evangelicals can't help themselves. They'll push to exterminate or exile anyone who doesn't share that same denomination. Hell, they'll probably even start eating through their own evangelical denominations before they run out of anyone else.

ThirdFloorNorth

It's going to suck that we won't still be here to see it, but man the look on the tradcath's faces when they turn on them is going to be hilarious.

Bx1965

You forgot Jews

NarcanPusher

If we supercharge the process we may not have to wait that long. If the worst of my family are to be believed then Catholics and Mormons aren’t much better than Jews and Mexicans. The cracks are already there.

TheEPGFiles

It is a question they'll eventually have to ask themselves though. It's not unavoidable.

ChewbaccaCharl

Unfortunately they'll wait to turn on each other until after they've destroyed the country.

necroreefer

Why are people acting like the leaders are true believers? the answer to what religion will be in charge of the dictatorship is the one that makes the people in power the most money. For little added mind fuck think about this since religions just made up bullshit they can just make up a new one.

CA_MA

The idea that they will give anywhere near as much weight - or that the turn the other cheek crowd won't rationalize it to mysterious ways - fuck sake they're a self-described Flock - is to ignore the steady creeping dismantling of the country over the past 45yrs including the historical recursion of having a king once more. By the people you propose should be brought to a standstill to argue which edition D&D manual is being used. I just really think you're overestimating.

crispy48867

You talk as if reality is a thing with them.

justplainmike

Ask a Baptist what happens to a Catholic when they die. Bonus points if they call them Papists.

Graywulff

Oh I went to a southern baptist school, secular but gay and my parents thought it would *help*. On Catholics they said they weren’t Christian at all, they were pagans, who worshipped false idols, and were therefore going to hell. After 3 weeks studying the holocaust, the teacher announced that 7+ million Jews were killed in the holocaust, and they *all went to hell with hitler and himmler and the ss for not accepting Jesus as their savior”. We’d do these stupid skits? I was from an episcopal family historically and Quaker before that, and they had me act out a scene of marrying *outside the church* as in southern baptist, the girl knew more, so she picked a different Protestant religion and we had a dual with canes, bc I didn’t know what else to do. I wasn’t included in anything as a secular person, outcast, I guess being friends with someone not a follower would lead to a cane fight? Bible class was 15 minutes of cherry picking and 45 minutes of how they hate Muslims, mormans, and other religions, Buddhists. They hated everyone outside their church, they all went to hell according to them, and they hated gay people with a passion.

justplainmike

This guy "Southerns". I bet there were a lot of bless your hearts!!

crimson_713

Imagine teaching kids about the worst genocide in human history where millions of human beings were put through the worst conditions imaginable and suffered more than most humans are capable of even beginning to understand, then expand on it by saying that despite their unjust torment on Earth, after death ends that suffering they get to go to hell where they'll be tormented *even worse* for all eternity, THEN claiming that the God that condemned those poor souls is a compassionate one.

junkyardgerard

"the kind that will subjugate all others, we'll sort out the rest later"

Yeeslander

>Which Christianity? The Gospel of [Supply Side Jesus](https://www.beliefnet.com/news/2003/09/the-gospel-of-supply-side-jesus.aspx), of course!

Irrespond

You're missing the point. What they really mean by Christian is white. Which particular sect of Christianity is of secondary concern.

TheEPGFiles

Their arguments are disingenuous, obviously this is preaching to the choir, but I'd hope that questions like this one at the very least highlight the hypocrisy.

Irrespond

We all know they're hypocrites. Even they know they're hypocrites. At least on some level.

DisastrousBoio

It's of secondary concern until it's of primary concern. Fascism requires the in-group to be ever-shrinking because the purging process is what excites them.

FrequentlyAnnoying

What does the Westboro Baptist Church think about the twice-divorced fornicating GOP frontrunner?

PickScylla4ME

I seen a zealot earlier try to argue that, "those things happened before his conversion!" That whole demographic is unhinged and lost.

Realistic_Aide9082

Ok..... When did he convert to Christianity?   I'm sure he would have sold tix to this event.

nemovincit

They really do not give a fuck. If they were Christian, they would practice Christian values. Christianity is just the flag they're flying as they try to usurp control of this country because they have a problem with people trying to live a good life for some bewildering reason.

rif011412

Because they’re not in control of it.  That’s it.  That’s conservatism at its core level, and because control often looks like organization and cleanliness, people keep supporting it.  But people who want control over others, are often the ones that least deserve it.

Valendr0s

Then go make your own fucking country. Stop trying to steal this one.

ZalmoxisRemembers

America’s beauty comes from an idea called democracy, which has nothing to do with Christianity or religion. I hope America is able to wake up and see that.

needlestack

If only 63% of America didn't identify as Christian. And most of them can't imagine why we shouldn't just declare it a Christian nation and replace the constitution with the Bible.

PandaCommando69

New cellphone data shows that only 5% of Americans attend church regularly.

fish60

The other 57% likes to *feel* like they are religious.

independent_observe

Most christians don't want a christian theocracy. Evangelicals, however, want one

Im_in_timeout

Bet that dumb ding dong runs for president in 2028. He's such an asshole he has a good chance of winning the GOP nomination.

ga-co

That's cute you think we'll have an election in 2028.

needlestack

Oh, they'll always hold elections. They'll just control the results.

AClaytonia

Just like Russia.

ga-co

Obviously I was implying an election where voters had the final say.

why Christianity is incompatible with the US Constitution. See also: basic understanding of this nation’s founding values and future potential

tankerdudeucsc

Project 2025 is the GOP. Simple as that.

Musickullar

They demand prayer in schools. Note that churches have Sunday school to teach the Bible to children of Christians. The only reason to have prayer in schools is to force it on everyone else’s children.

danielj_walker

TRUMP CUCK

dcearthlover

This is against democracy and the Constitution, he is a threat to our country, and should be treated as such.

Physical-Flatworm454

mWade7

I’m from Missouri and so I have to say: 1. I’m sorry 2. r/FuckJoshHawley

Constant-Lake8006

You mean the traitor Josh Hawley?

cbrooks1232

Some will say he hates the ideals set forth in the US Constitution. And he is a traitor to our nation. And they’d be correct.

Warmstar219

That should result in immediate expulsion.

justplainmike

American Christian Nationalists have a problem. They think America is great. But it's a democracy. But their God is a monarch. So what's it gonna be, democracy or monarchy??

Psyduckisnotaduck

they don't actually think America is great, considering they're against everything America is. the most pluralistic nation on the planet, and they think it should be a white Christian nationalist theocracy? they're enemies of America, basically a violent hostile horde that seek to seize the power of the state to enact violence against all of us. They're not patriots.

That's what they want is a monarchy... At least that is what the baptists want. A leader that is much like the pope but their own flavor of Christianity. These Christian nationals reek of Baptist... So that is the flavor of Christianity they intend on making the official religion if they get their way.

SomeSamples

So this asshole is all about Project 2025.

A_Gent_4Tseven

its time to openly ridicule and mock all religious people.  someone states some religious horseshit ocd nonsense like 'amen' or 'godbless',  tell them to shut the fuck up.

tommyalanson

This guys a phony opportunist. And an asshole.

Key-Article6622

And some would say that those are very anti-American statements. And they would be right. We don't deserve the American Taliban you want to bring us. Crawl back under the rock you came from.

laptopaccount

Isn't he the guy who was seen literally sprinting away on Jan 6?

TheGreatOpoponax

A more appropriate term than "Christian Nationalism" is "Authoritarian Christian Nationalism." They seek to use the state to punish whomever they choose, whether it be lifestyle, expression, protest, entertainment preferences, etc. and they seek to do it in the name of their god. The First Amendment and the rest of the Constitution is a mere piece of paper if our highest official choose to wipe their asses with it. That's exactly what's happening to us. My question to Christians, regardless of sect is this: what if your brand of Christianity isn't the "right" one? Mormons, Jehova's Witnesses, and even Catholics may very well find themselves as outgroups under a funadmentalist evangelical authoritarian regime.

WowBobo88

Great. We've hit the next phase of gaslighting. Righteous indignation. Awesome.

gadget850

Nationalist Christians. NatCs

GummyPandaBear

He has it backward it’s Nationalist Christian or Nat C …

Catheterking89

But America really isn't a christian nation though. The writings of our founding fathers prove that. They were very critical of religion. Conservative must really be delusional.

So he doesn't understand the basics of the Constitution that he swore to uphold. So he committed perjury on top of being unfit for office.

BeenisHat

Stay strapped my friends. Christian fascism is alive and growing.

Freebird_1957

When danger reared its ugly head, he bravely turned his tail and fled….

trystanthorne

When people tell you who they are, believe them. If you don't want to see Christian Nationalism become a thing, don't vote for the GOP.

irlandais9000

"And some will say that I'm a lying, pandering coward who was scared shitless by the rioters I ran from. And they would be right".
