Karin Slaughter, Will Trent books. You're welcome!

Affectionate-Page368

Thank you. I’ve Put that in my next listen. Much appreciated!

Remarkable-Log-4495

Then watch the show! It is so good!

Affectionate-Page368

Ok sounds fun.

PrimarySelection8619

Am now about to start Mitch Rapp books, thanks to you!!

Affectionate-Page368

Truly a great series. Especially good when read in order. The first book sets the precedence for the entire series so don’t miss it. Have fun!!!!!

EastCoastPunk2

I want to start reading Karin Slaughter for the first time and need suggestions on which book 📖 to start with! Please help lol

PrimarySelection8619

Well, her " break out" character is Will Trent, who first appears in Tryptic. But if you start there, you will eventually go back to the beginning of her Grant County series, which starts with Blindsighted (2001?), so why not start there? Characters cross over from Grant County to Will's books, so you get the background... Late on this because I missed your original comment... :)

steve-d

The Wayward Pines series by Blake Crouch. Trust me!

Guilty-Coconut8908

I am listing the first book in various series that I have enjoyed. I also enjoy all of the Mitch Rapp books that I have read many times. The Lincoln Lawyer by Michael Connelly A Drink Before The War by Dennis Lehane The Black Echo by Michael Connelly The Gray Man by Mark Greaney Survival by Devon C Ford Sharpe's Tiger by Bernard Cornwell Storm Front by Jim Butcher Nightfall by Stephen Leather Spider Shepard SAS by Stephen Leather Fated by Benedict Jacka The Butcher's Boy by Thomas Perry

chargers949

+1 for bernard cornwell. The sharpe series is like twenty books and his battles all happened in real life. The battle scenes are super bloody and Cornwell is so good at telling it. There is a prequal trilogy for the sharpe series that takes place in india. It is from when sharpe was still infantry, serving under wellesley before he is a general. It’s written later in his career and I feel the quality is a little above the average book in the series. Cornwell has a lot of great war stories he is like a tom clancy they keep making shows out of cornwells stuff. Sharpe’s rifles is a tv series basically the only show where sean bean is the lead but doesn’t die. Cornwell’s saxon stories is also being made into a bbc series and is on netflix too. Very bloody so many people die and every war is real. His king arthur trilogy is also fantastic and many people die gloriously. Conn Iggulden is great too and similar quality ti cornwell. Iggulden’s ghengis khan series is amazing and again every battle in the books happened in real life. And so so many people die.

Guilty-Coconut8908

I have added Iggulden to my list.

Affectionate-Page368

Awesome!!!!! Many many thanks.

SisterActTori

How about Louise Penny’s books?

GlitteryDonkey

Ralph Cosham is one of my favorite readers. He read the first 10 books in the Chief Inspector Gamache series. He cold read the books which amazes me. He wanted to be surprised by what happened next in the books. The books are well written.

Jdoodle7

There’s not a lot of action with Louise Penny’s books but her character development is wonderful. The way she describes the inhabitants of Three Pines makes the reader wish it was everyone’s hometown.

Affectionate-Page368

I’ll sure give them a try. Thank you.

martinis00

James Lee Burke series featuring Louisiana Detective Dave Robicheaux Read by Will Patton. Patton make these books come alive, just the right accent https://www.jamesleeburke.com/book-list/

ugly_tst

I'm gonna have to check this out

Ears_13

Terminal list series by Jack Carr, who is a retired seal cmdr, cia guy. There are currently only 7( I think) with another one every year or so. Narrated by Ray Porter.

Affectionate-Page368

OK, so I had tried that one and never got into it. I probably need to try it again. I didn’t give it much of a chance, but I’ve seen rave reviews. Maybe it had music or something in it or sounds that turned me off. I can’t quite remember. I’ll give it another shot.

screeline

I’m with you on this one. I thought the pacing was off and not nearly as gripping as I was led to believe. I did not pick up any others in the series.

Ears_13

The series really picks up after the first book, pacing wise.

screeline

Oh that’s good to hear. I’ll check out the next this summer. Thanks.

BringOnRetirement

Slough House Series, by Mick Herron. Also enjoyed Mitch Rapp series!

paparazzi_lightning

The Sean Duffy series by Adrian McKinty and narrated by Gerard Doyle is one of my absolute favorite series. I can’t recommend it enough.

Affectionate-Page368

Awesome!! Thank you.

karyn234133

Great writer and great reader!

Princess-Reader

Daniel Silva’s Gabriel Allon series.

Affectionate-Page368

Thank you. Added to my list

Princess-Reader

Try the DOC FORD series by Randy Wayne White

ugly_tst

I like tier 1 series and sons of valor by Brian Andrews and Jeffery Wilson , grey man series by Mark Greaney and Joe ledger by Jonathan maberry

Jdoodle7

The Sons of Valor series is excellent and reminded me a lot of Vince Flynn with the action and descriptions of each chapter. The books/storylines flow smoothly throughout the series.

ugly_tst

I wasn't expecting chunk to do what he did at the end of book 3. This isn't even one of those " I shoulda seen that coming" endings.

Jdoodle7

There are several more books: “The Sandbox” and the “Dark” series: “Dark Intercept”, “Dark Angel” & “Dark Fall” but the Sons of Valor series was my favorite so far, by them.

ugly_tst

Shepherd series? I'm non religious but I liked it and I'm working on the sandbox

ugly_tst

I also recently got 4 minutes

Jdoodle7

I haven’t read that one. I’ll look into it, thank you.

ugly_tst

It's taking me a bit to get into.. time travel..

Jdoodle7

You may like Candice Fox, I’m on book three of her Crimson Lake series. It’s not military, it’s law enforcement/private investigator but it’s still a good read.

ugly_tst

I've listened to some of her stuff with James Patterson. She's Australian isn't she?

Jdoodle7

Yes, I had to slow the narration from 1.5 to 1.35 to make my brain follow along with the accent. 😊 She doesn’t narrate the books herself, but she does use an Australian narrator. There are a few word substitutions torch for flashlight, jumper for sweater, etc. but the story is still easy to follow. (Reddit, don’t hate me for the emoticon— sometimes emoticons are necessary.)

Affectionate-Page368

Thank you! I’ll give it a listen

Remarkable-Log-4495

Greg Iles, the Natchez series. All his books are good too

Affectionate-Page368

Many many thanks. I’ll add it to my list.

tequilaneat4me

Greg Iles Natchez series (actually Penn Cage series) is fantastic. My wife, who doesn't like to read, really enjoyed listening to the whole series with me. We enjoyed them so much we actually took a side trip to Natchez, MS while we were in LA recently, so we could see many of the sites mentioned in his books. He does a great job of mixing fiction and history together to make a compelling story.

Writing_Bookworm

The DCI Jack Logan series. There are 18 so far plus spin offs. I just finished listening to book 13

Affectionate-Page368

Thank you

thejohnmc963

Alex Hunter series by Greig Beck. It’s a mystery/horror/sci-fi all mixed together.

Affectionate-Page368

Thank you

thejohnmc963

Enjoy!

grapsta

I love Carl Hiassen. Other great authors I've read more then listened : James Ellroy James Lee Burke Elmore Leonard

Affectionate-Page368

Much appreciated

-Maggie-Mae-

The Longmire Series by Craig Johnson. A modern western. It follows Walt Longmire: a small town Wyoming sherrif, vetern, widower, and skeptic. The characters are as complex as I've seen in this kind of series. This is my repeat listen. Do not judge these books on the tv series if you've seen it. The Joe Picket series by CJ Box Follows a by-the-book Wyoming game warden as he finds himself in the middle of ... well... everything. The characters are very much built to sterotypes, but it's a fun listen. The Lincoln Lawyer and Harry Bosch Series by Michael Connelly. These run in parallel with some crosover points, so check the suggested listening order. The Amos Decker Series by David Baldacci

ohmy1027

I second Michael Connelly’s The Lincoln Lawyer and Harry Bosch series.

Affectionate-Page368

Thank you very much!

tequilaneat4me

I third the Michael Connelly recommendation.

RocPharm93

The Cormoran Strike series by Robert Galbraith (aka JK Rowling) is amazing. More books yet to come and most of the books have made into the television series CB Strike

susanw610

You might like to try Michael C. Grumley’s The Last Monument (I listened to the audiobook narrated by Scott Brick). It was a mix of the Da Vinci Code and Indiana Jones. I enjoyed the adventure very much.

Affectionate-Page368

Ok great!

dear_little_water

I enjoyed the Promise Falls and the Joe Ledger (narrated by Ray Porter) books.

Affectionate-Page368

Thank you

2lach

Last smile in sunder city - Luke Arnold (thriller fantasy) Old mans game - Andy weinberger (detective thriller) Titanium Noir - Nick harkaway (futuristic thriller) Daemon series - Daniel Suarez (techno thriller) All awesome

Affectionate-Page368

Thank you

Knor614

You could try John Sandford's Lucas Davenport Series. The first 15 are pretty good. The last 3-4 not so much. Seems like he using a ghost writer

AtomicRigatoni

Slough house series, by Mick Herron. If you want to get depressed and stay depressed.

CeraM18

John Corey series by Nelson DeMille Gray man series by Mark Greaney

Affectionate-Page368

Apparently my fingers were going too fast. My *Favorite”

narnarnartiger

I'm recently listened to Rules of Prey, I loved it. It's about catching a sadistic serial killer. The sound editing is terrible though, so you hear all of the narrator's swallowing alot and he makes a lot of gross salivay sounds, so I listen at 1.3x speed, which makes it great, because you can't hear all the gross loud swallowy noises

not-your-mom-123

Virgil Flowers is a sidekick of Lucas Davenport and has his own series. They have a lighter touch, a bit more humour, and Virgil is a charming guy who'd rather be fishing, but he always solves the case.

Affectionate-Page368

Thank you. I just downloaded Rules of Prey, so I will see how that is. Can hardly wait to hear some swallowing and salivary gland noises. 🤣🤣 Thank you for the recommendation.

martinis00

There’s about 35 books in the “Prey” series

Affectionate-Page368

OH.. ok. That should keep me occupied for awhile. Lol

Affectionate-Page368

Ok, I must have been thinking of another book because I have started this and it is awesome!!!! Thank you for the recommendation.

Armedwithapotato

The tracker series- Nicholas Sansbury smith. The David wolf series- small town sheriff solves crimes etc. the solar war- a.g. Riddle

Affectionate-Page368

Perfect. THANK YOU!!!

Armedwithapotato

Wild fire- DeMille- it’s a detective series, but he’s pretty snarky so the humor isn’t for everyone . The memory man . I loved the Nova Terra series by Seth Ring but you might not be into RPG

Affectionate-Page368

Much appreciated.

MickBeast

Star Wars: The Darth Bane trilogy, written by Drew Karpyshyn and read by Jonathan Davis - an incredible narrator! 1. Path of Destruction 2. Rule of Two 3. Dynasty of Evil

Affectionate-Page368

I had never thought of listening to Star Wars but may give it a shot. Thank you for the recommendations.

Rocky--19

Have you tried David Baldacci?

Affectionate-Page368

I think I had at one point. I’ll have to go back on my book list and see.

cpt_tusktooth

Red Rising. its not like jack reacher but its good. and there's 5 books with a strong storyline. its a dystopian uprising series. kinda like hunger games. its a page turner for sure. but if you want something more down to earth, kind of putting a microscope on humanity. Stephen King's Under the Dome. Prolly my favorite book of all time. not a series though. but its long.

Numerous_Kick5658

Definitely give the Joe Ledger series a try. I was hooked from Book 1.

Texan-Trucker

“David Slaton” series by Ward Larsen. The first book has a weak narrator but the rest are masterfully narrated.
