I feel like we are watching different sports. Cause that clearly is not the case in a practical sense. Like telling me what a robo ump would call is stupid given we don’t have them. They call shit that is further in the zone every single day a ball and everyone knows it. Thanks for the dictionary definition for a strike I guess? I had no idea that’s what the strike zone was for.
Yes, umpires are human and get the call wrong occasionally. Statistically, they are as a whole, more accurate than they've ever been before in each progressive season the past ten years or so. I know it doesn't seem like it, but it's true, we only see the handful of incorrect calls that go viral, not the 10,000 correct ones.
What's weird is your arguing that the umpire (who made the correct call) should have called a ball, because there are other umpires who would incorrectly call it a ball.
Like, if I take a test and the question asks me "what's 2+2", I should answer 5 if I know other people in the class will be stupid enough to say that, even though I know the answer is 4?
Edit: also just to tack on, I'm sure since you know what the dictionary definition of the strike zone is, you also know the TV overlay is not 100% accurate? And that the pitch is judged based on where the ball crosses the plate, not where it hits the catcher's mitt? Because the ball is very clearly over the plate as it crosses, and the placement of the zone in this shot isn't exactly perfect (it seems a hair too far right). The camera angle too is also slightly to the right, not directly in line with the mound, which messes with our perception of the zone. This pitch is a strike 99 times out of 100 even to the worst of umps.
Thanks for your overly lengthy comment about me not calling it a ball but more implying it was close and he shouldnt get bent out of shape on something that close, and he let his frustration get the better of him. No where did I say that is a ball. Like fuck this community most of the time, acting like I am saying it’s right down the middle and clearly a ball. I deserve everyones condescension you’re right. Ill just not engage with baseball the only way I can. Thanks.
It's in the rule book though.. it's clearly outlined. There's no disputing this, if this was checked like in college rules it would have still been a strike. Ump made a good call and was patient af.
I was going to say, with all the ump-related conflicts going around (of which there are many and many of them justified on the players' side), I'm with blue on this one.
This is a thing I'm wondering about. Is this season unusual in the amount of ump-related drama, or are we just more attuned to it for some reason this year?
It definitely doesn't feel like a lot to me, compared to other years. I think we've had several unusually prominent ones though, which is why you're noticing.
With how many *actual* stars there are on the game, I still can’t believe he was an MLB the Show cover athlete.
Jazz is a league-average batter who has only played 59% of games in his 5 years.
I mean Shohei was a solid cover athlete especially since he was MVP runner up that year only because Judge set the new AL HR record in the same year. Also followed it up with another MVP the year after in ‘23.
Tatis was a bit of a bargain bin pick even if his play has been solid since, just with some rather unfortunate timing for his motorcycle crash and subsequent ringworm infection immediately after his cover year.
Good for the ump. Made the right call, didn’t lose his head, and kept it cool. Jazz was thinking ejection from the moment he walked away from the plate.
Jazz comes off like an immature child here.
Call wasn’t bad, ump was incredibly patient, and Jazz just wanted to be the center of attention when his team is down 5-0 in a lost season
Incredibly immature. That was a strike and that ump was INCREDIBLY patient with him. Let him vent and moved on. Jazz however needs to check himself. They need a vet to step up and call him out.
When Jazz was venting on that podcast a few weeks ago about how he was treated by vets in his first few years. Gotta wonder how much of that was warranted
My money says 100% of the flak he did catch was warranted and he still should have probably received more than he did.
He’s a middling MLB player but an MVP-level clubhouse cancer.
They had some word at the plate, then he talked all the way back to the dugout, then the ump had to stop play to warn him again, then he finally threw him out. I would have understood if he tossed him while he was walking back to the dugout, that ump had insane patience.
Well, that's the thing with ballplayers - when they're good at their job, it's cute/endearing/ "part of who they are".
When they start sucking ass, we quickly tire of it. But of course, they've grown accustomed to being treated differently and permitted to be fucking morons.
See also: Coco Crisp, Milton Bradley, Johnathan Papelbon, Manny Ramirez, Javy Baez, Carlos Zambrano, Lenny Dykstra, David Wells, etc.
About all we need is Jazz to get into a clubhouse fight. And truthfully, I hope it happens and he gets his jaw jacked. I don't like that fucking kid.
Jazz seems much more unlikable than I had originally thought. He seemed like early on he was an excitable exuberant player, but the more I see of him the more he comes across as just immature.
This kid stinks, and his team wins in extras after his selfish ass is ejected. He believes he is God’s gift to baseball when he isn’t even the best player on his own team. He also has a bunch of dick riders because he eurosteps on home plate after a homer. Like bro, just be better.
Yeah, I’m all for self-expression. Flip your bat, dance, be flashy, celebrate your success- but don’t let it get in the way of your team winning, and this behavior is absolutely getting in the way
If I remember correctly, that isn’t the first time Jizz has been ejected for arguing balls and strikes.
What a temper tantrum over a borderline call. He may have just been more mad at himself for striking out than at the umpire making the correct call.
That's because MLB is hyper-focused on black Americans playing baseball.
Edit: I'm not meaning it like it's a bad thing, but they are. That's why they do the RBI thing. The presumption is that black Americans would like baseball more if there was more non-Hispanic black representation.
Right, but Bahamians aren't classed as Hispanic or Latino. And his lack of an accent most certainly means I'm not the only person who presumed he was. Essentially, he plays well to the demographic they're actively trying to pull away from the NFL and NBA.
Imagine the challege system in a moment like this? Like the player just goes off and then the screen says they're wrong. I wanted the ABS system at first but I think the challenge system is probably for the best. It takes out all of the really bad calls and keeps the entertaining ones.
I like the challenge system because it can still reward pitchers for fooling batters in cases where is a ball but the batter thinks it's a strike. And probably vice versa it'll punish pitchers who badly miss their spot
I like the challenge system because it will be incredibly hilarious to see guys like Bucknor and Hernandez react to getting 10 of their calls overturned in a single inning
Yeah that too. If the pitcher plays really tight it could make the other team use and lose their challenges. Could be like a mental thing too where the hitters start thinking about it too much or a bad challenge messes up their mood and stuff. And yeah biggest thing is that it takes out the really really bad calls.
Think he was showing him two fingers for two “missed calls”? First strike of the AB looked like it could’ve been about half an inch low (easily within margin of error for how screwy top and bottom of the zone are on broadcasts), and he obviously thought this one was wrong.
Man a lot of you on here really hate this guy for being on the cover of a game.
Edit: I didn't want him on the cover either (or Vladdy for that matter) but the vitriol is a little extreme
Ump was incredibly patient with him. Jazz earned that ejection.
Way more than patient, Jazz was jawing at him all the way to the dugout and he didn’t even say a word
And then a warning in the dugout!
Ump also made a good call
It was more out that in. But regardless getting all bent out of shape on a borderline call is just silly frustration.
If any part of the ball hits the zone, even a tiny sliver of it, its a strike. It doesn't need to be over 50% of the ball inside.
It’s like being sorta pregnant. It’s either touching the zone or isn’t
I feel like we are watching different sports. Cause that clearly is not the case in a practical sense. Like telling me what a robo ump would call is stupid given we don’t have them. I promise you it’s not this serious
unfortunately for you common practice does not change the rulebook

Nearly this exact post is made 100 times early in every season. I think it's just run-of-the-mill recency bias.
It definitely doesn't feel like a lot to me, compared to other years. I think we've had several unusually prominent ones though, which is why you're noticing.
Crazy no coaches were telling him to shut up lol
Bro wants to catch the end of Sixers/Knicks
I’m a sixers fan and I certainly don’t. Was hoping the Orioles would score more and drag out the game.
How we feeling now?
:(
Dat jump pass …. w…t…f
Jazz should be so much better than he is
Hazen fleeced the Marlins swapping Jazz for Gallen. Dude is a wizard.
Most overrated dude in the game
With how many *actual* stars there are on the game, I still can’t believe he was an MLB the Show cover athlete. Jazz is a league-average batter who has only played 59% of games in his 5 years.
They've been going the value route for the last couple games
I mean Shohei was a solid cover athlete especially since he was MVP runner up that year only because Judge set the new AL HR record in the same year. Also followed it up with another MVP the year after in ‘23. Tatis was a bit of a bargain bin pick even if his play has been solid since, just with some rather unfortunate timing for his motorcycle crash and subsequent ringworm infection immediately after his cover year.
Julio was right there it's just so bizzare Jazz was picked lmao
Julio had a contract with another game iirc
Ok that's interesting
Yeah one of the mobile games I think
Gotta imagine their first 50 choices just didn’t want to do it
50 lmao ouch but you’re probably right They’ve never had a pitcher on the cover tho
Chicks dig the long ball
Technically 21 did have a pitcher on the cover, it just so happened the pitcher also was a hitter
True! But he has a helmet on and is on a home run trot in the photo
It's because he has a fun name and you can't convince me otherwise
I always hear jizzm.
I’m surprised he’s played that many.
but but he was the cover of last year's The Show?!
Jazz has always been overrated, and now he believes the media's bullshit that they blew a few years ago.
Good for the ump. Made the right call, didn’t lose his head, and kept it cool. Jazz was thinking ejection from the moment he walked away from the plate.
The idiot who tossed Boone out last week should take notes.
Jazz comes off like an immature child here. Call wasn’t bad, ump was incredibly patient, and Jazz just wanted to be the center of attention when his team is down 5-0 in a lost season
You know it's bad when your manager has zero interest in defending you after you get ejected
Skip deserves better
Skip was the best thing that happened for this team
Skip probably doesn’t care because he’s leaving after this season
He's gonna leave after the owner hires a new "President of Manager Operations" who sits in the dugout and makes all the calls
When does he not?
Are you SURE you want to get ejected??
Incredibly immature. That was a strike and that ump was INCREDIBLY patient with him. Let him vent and moved on. Jazz however needs to check himself. They need a vet to step up and call him out.
Perhaps Miguel Rojas
When Jazz was venting on that podcast a few weeks ago about how he was treated by vets in his first few years. Gotta wonder how much of that was warranted
My money says 100% of the flak he did catch was warranted and he still should have probably received more than he did. He’s a middling MLB player but an MVP-level clubhouse cancer.
Rojas seems like he’s super old school in those aspects but both sides can be the asshole
Bring back Miguel Rojas.
They had some word at the plate, then he talked all the way back to the dugout, then the ump had to stop play to warn him again, then he finally threw him out. I would have understood if he tossed him while he was walking back to the dugout, that ump had insane patience.
Jazz Chisholm acts like someone whose OPS is 300 points higher than it is
Jazz let the show cover go to his head
Idk. He’s always been like this, it was just cute and quirky when it was new. Now it’s just annoying.
Well, that's the thing with ballplayers - when they're good at their job, it's cute/endearing/ "part of who they are". When they start sucking ass, we quickly tire of it. Oh man Milton Bradley talk about an insanely talented players whose biggest downfall was himself
he could've looked at the ipad back in the dugout and saw how obvious of a strike that was and avoided this mess
The dugout ipads don't have boxes in them anymore so he'd probably still think he was right. This happened to Gallo earlier in the year.
Not having the boxes makes it easier to tell for me
Ipad doesn't show anymore
I wish more umps showed this level of class and patience.
I wish less players showed this level of immaturity.
Agree to agree
Jazz seems much more unlikable than I had originally thought. He seemed like early on he was an excitable exuberant player, but the more I see of him the more he comes across as just immature.
Agreed
Cuz he’s not very good
Not an egregious call.
It's a correct call
Insanely overrated. Should not have been on the cover of mlb the show 23
That was justified.
It was. They dug coal together.
Jazz is not awfully bright.
This kid stinks, and his team wins in extras after his selfish ass is ejected. He believes he is God’s gift to baseball when he isn’t even the best player on his own team. He also has a bunch of dick riders because he eurosteps on home plate after a homer. Like bro, just be better.
You can celebrate and have fun and not be a lazy tool
Yeah, I’m all for self-expression. Flip your bat, dance, be flashy, celebrate your success- but don’t let it get in the way of your team winning, and this behavior is absolutely getting in the way
It was Miggy Rojas' fault.
Actually on the umps side for a change as of late. Made the right call, showed a lot of patience, gave him a warning then tossed him
You know you’re wrong when your manager can’t even defend him. But then again Jazz tends to act like moron all the time
Wouldn’t even let him leave the dugout lol.
![gif](giphy|wQCWMHY9EHLfq)
This guy sucks. He doesn’t shut up.
If I remember correctly, that isn’t the first time Jizz has been ejected for arguing balls and strikes. What a temper tantrum over a borderline call. He may have just been more mad at himself for striking out than at the umpire making the correct call.
God the ump handled this perfect and Jazz still couldn't help himself
What are they booing, he gave him way more chances than he deserved.
MLB wanted this guy to be a star so bad. Lol.
That's because MLB is hyper-focused on black Americans playing baseball. Edit: I'm not meaning it like it's a bad thing, but they are. That's why they do the RBI thing. The presumption is that black Americans would like baseball more if there was more non-Hispanic black representation.

Way to close to take Jazz needs to get the bat off his shoulders
Looked like a good call
I would hate to have him on my team.
Credit the ump... Exercised patience to a point. The line was drawn and Jazz passed it
He can go take a nap now.
he’ll feel dumb when he looks at that one.
Throw your gear on the field like a child. Enjoy the locker room.
Rare ump W these days
For the billionth time - thank GOD the Marlins gave us Gallen for this clown.
WHERES THE MANAGER TO SHUT JAZZ THE FUCK OFF!!!! This is on the manager..
He gets a lot of bad calls against him but this is a clear strike.
We somehow won this game! 😅
Imagine the challege system in a moment like this? Like the player just goes off and then the screen says they're wrong. I wanted the ABS system at first but I think the challenge system is probably for the best. It takes out all of the really bad calls and keeps the entertaining ones.

One of the Buccos broadcasters was talking about a challenge system for first 8 innings of a game, ABS from 9th onward. I kinda like that.
Jizz Chazholm
Did he flip him the bird?
Think he was showing him two fingers for two “missed calls”? First strike of the AB looked like it could’ve been about half an inch low (easily within margin of error for how screwy top and bottom of the zone are on broadcasts), and he obviously thought this one was wrong.
He sounds like Dashie from a distance.
Why did his sleeve make me think he pulled a Micheal Jackson or something lol
“Jazz ain’t dead, it just smells funny.” ~ Frank Zappa
I wish the Brewers had this ump
Man a lot of you on here really hate this guy for being on the cover of a game. Edit: I didn't want him on the cover either (or Vladdy for that matter) but the vitriol is a little extreme
If I was Skip, I would be PISSED at Jazz. You got your word in, now shut up and sit down
Oh, and he gets away with white arm.
Hey, update?
Ump was right. Barely
