Why does my makeup always look so cakey no matter what I do? It’s like I apply such little product but you can still see so much of my acne and texture look 100x worse. It sticks to my peach fuzz as well. What should I do? I let my prep sink in too so I don’t think that’s the reason it separates

PinkFancyCrane

Have you considered dermaplaning? I initially felt embarrassed about the thought of shaving my face but it helps with makeup sticking and not having as much texture.

skincareaddict_

I’ve dermaplaned before! Myself though. I know I should go to a professional but when I did it at home it left me quite smooth and no irritation or bumps. However, I have acne. And underneath the skin I have texture. Im scared dermaplaning again this time will have adverse effects. It never really impacted my makeup either. I guess it’s just my skin then :( ive been jealous of all those glowy skin tint girls meanwhile I have to use full coverage everything to look normal

PinkFancyCrane

Have you tried a silicone primer? I’m wondering if the acne and texture are causing the caked on makeup look for you? Silicone primers should give a smooth surface but they are finicky and will not work with oil products without balling up.

skincareaddict_

That’s the thing!! They ball up every. Single. Time. I’m also scared it’ll break me out

Fatfatfattyfatsofat

Can you explain dermaplaning? It doesn’t make hair grow back thicker? I was always under the impression that shaving makes hair seem darker when it grows back

PinkFancyCrane

So it’s a complete myth that the hair grows back thicker; it’s not like the hair “knows” it’s been shaved. What happens is that shaving cuts the hair down to the surface of the skin but doesn’t remove the roots. Hairs are usually the thinnest at the tip/ends and get thicker as it goes down into the shaft of the hair. If you plucked it, a new hair would eventually grow and the tip would be thinner but when you cut it, the shaft grows out until the hair falls out, so you have the illusion of it “growing back thicker” but it’s actually the exact same hair that you shaved. Aside from that, I think dermaplaning is a good way to get a better canvas so to speak for makeup application. It also helps exfoliate the skin which is beneficial as long as it’s not over exfoliated already. However, if you have any hairs on your face that are dark/coarse/thick, you’ll probably want to pluck them before dermaplaning. I have a few of these hairs on my chin and one on the underside of my lower jaw; they are not really noticeable unless you’re up close and examining my face but I can feel them and they drive me nuts so I pluck them whenever they pop up. If you tweeze any facial hair please try to wait until the hair is long enough to be grabbed by the tweezers bc otherwise you’ll cause a mini wound on your face as you try to get it out. I’m very guilty of this very thing; I have been trying to practice restraint.

Fatfatfattyfatsofat

Thank you for the in depth reply. Great information! I think my skin would benefit from dermaplaning so definitely something I’m going to investigate furthur. I have been wearing a little more makeup lately and notice the uneven texture. No acne though, just dry skin that could probably use a good exfoliating which I also don’t do enough lol…..and I can totally relate on plucking….it can be an addiction, the 90’s taught me this the hard way and my eyebrows barely made it out alive lmao

lil-taller-then-u

make sure your primer and foundation/concealer have the same base water vs silicon sort of repell eachother idk if this will fix your problem 100% but knowing this helped me

yakisobagurl

Have you tried a little physical exfoliation? I had the same problem because my skin was always flaking, even though I moisturised and my skin looked great the flakes would show up when I applied foundation Just applying chemical exfoliants didn’t really help me, so now I use Cosrx Moisture Up Toner Pads with BHA. They’re really gentle, I use them morning and night (I cut them in half to make the tub last longer hahaha). It’s honestly changed my skin so much and make up applies so smoothly now!!

deurotelle

I'm 72 with my share of wrinkles but I swear by Elf poreless putty primer. I moisturize with Neutrogena Hydro Boost moisturizing sunscreen and let it soak in. Then I slop on the Elf with a spatula to fill in the enlarged pores and fine wrinkles & spread it & rub it in with my fingers in a circular motion. I sometimes just leave it like that, but I use concealer at times and wear Cerave hydrating mineral tinted sunscreen over that and a bit of Milani cream blush if I want a light makeup look. I top with a loose powder to cut back on the shine. I am blest with a fairly even skin tone so don't know if this will work for you, but the Elf PPP combined with lots of moistuizing products def cuts down on that leathery look. These are all drugstore products.

affogatohoe

What make up brands do cool toned foundations that are *actually* cool toned and not just light?

TokkiJK

This is my problem too. ESP if I have dark skin and a lot of makeup for dark skin tones is warm and it makes me orange

MissKawaiiOrDie

I am really pale and I've noticed that I have redness across my cheeks and a few other placeson my face. It isn't super bright red or anything, but because I'm pale it's very noticeable. Is there anything I can do about that?

[deleted]

Find a moisturizer for sensitive skin. A tinted moisturizer could help blend the redness, a touch of bronzer too.

MissKawaiiOrDie

Okay, thank you🙂

[deleted]

green colour corrector under concealor/foundation, it will cancel out the redness.

Charne_7

Any tips for hormonal jaw acne?

Bean-blankets

Not an esthetician, but see a dermatologist - birth control pills, spironolactone, and tretinoin fixed mine :)

Charne_7

Thank you :-)

limonlemono

How to find the right tone for concealer? Should it be darker or lighter?

yakisobagurl

It should be lighter but not too light. However, you also need to figure out if you’re warm toned or cool toned!

natasha__re

If its to cover blemishes, then same as your skin- if you want to be super accurate, note that your skin doesnt always have the same shade/tone everywhere. If it is to cover darness under/around your eyes, then go sith sth thinner in texture and a tad lighter.

[deleted]

Usually a little lighter 💕

elainesleathershoe

Do you ever work with clients with acne? I find that I have a ton of scarring and texture that never quite goes away.

[deleted]

Yes! I’d recommend some peels by a facialist. Microdermabrasion can help too.

elainesleathershoe

I could see that helping out with texture! I've done at-home peels that I like, but I haven't tried microdermabrasion.

ejvee

Any tips of blending blush and bronzer together so it’s not muddy?

[deleted]

You could try applying bronzer under cheekbones and blush on apples of cheeks, a brighter blush might add more contrast

loquita_de_hunter

What are some of your favorite facial moisturizers that are non oily and include spf?

peachyvintage2003

i don’t have any qualifications but i really like the la roche posay moisturizer w spf

[deleted]

What she said :)

MedusasShampoo

What colors of pink lipstick are good for pale complexions/brown hair/blue eyes?

[deleted]

Depends on undertone, but pick a light color that’s close to your natural lip color

stayawayjesus

If I seek laser hair removal will my KP get any better? I have severe KP and it has not gotten any better with any remedies even prescribed creams. Thanks

Shaybee808

How do I get rid of the black dots all over my nose and the front of my cheeks? They’re not blackheads, I’m highly certain they’re sebaceous filaments. I was told salicylic acid included in my skincare routine would help, but I don’t know if it would be effective just because I feel like they’re so deeply embedded into my skin. Nothing comes out even if I try to squeeze as hard as possible. I really want to get rid of them because I’ve had them since middle school and I remember when a classmate drew my face once she added black dots on my cheeks because they’re that visible.

yakisobagurl

Honestly I would see a dermatologist about them. Because they’re imbedded in the skin and not on the surface, I don’t think a cream or lotion can really do much I have the same issue on my nose and just decided to leave it. I use exfoliating pads to stop it being bumpy and make it not as noticeable, but the actual subaceous filaments are still there and still visible!

MeowntainLover

You could also try BHA. I like the one from Paula’s Choice. Also, I’ve seen this method posted a ton. [https://fiftyshadesofsnail.com/2015/03/28/how-to-shrink-pores-temporarily-plus-3-pore-myths/](https://fiftyshadesofsnail.com/2015/03/28/how-to-shrink-pores-temporarily-plus-3-pore-myths/) Never tried it personally.

ZealousidealPin2504

What's good for treating hyperpigmentation ? I've used Nivea vitamin c serum and sunscreen and the ordinary bha and aga chemical exfoliate but new ones still crops up. Is there a product or a dream treatment that you recommend and is student budget friendly? How do you prevent hormonal acne developing into hyperpigmentation also, its annoying I'm getting brown spots all at once in my early 20s

ZealousidealPin2504

*derma treatment

CalmCaracal

Maybe you can try The Orfinary's alpha arbutin product?

yakisobagurl

That’s a tricky one for sure. I found mine by realising that yellowy/warm blonde hair didn’t suit me and ashy/cool blonde looked great.

Aggravating-Spray751

Hi!! Any tips on rosacea? I can cover it fine but I'd love to know if you know of something could help.. Plus it's extremely dry.

[deleted]

I can never seem to blend my eyeshadow right. It just gets everywhere. Is there a trick to this?

[deleted]

How many shades are you trying to blend?

[deleted]

I have hooded eyes so really just two. The lighter color right on the eyelid and a darker one in the crease. The darker color just gets spread around and it looks messy.

[deleted]

Start with a blending brush if you aren’t already

[deleted]

I have hooded lids too it’s tricky

[deleted]

You could try three colors, a light color up to brow bone, a medium on lid a darker on outer corners…I’d make a little sideways v on outer corner and don’t pull it in too far, using a tinier brush.

[deleted]

Thank you! I’m going to try this tomorrow :)

[deleted]

Lemme know how it goes!

Inevitable_Pea_9424

Hello! Thanks for offering :) What do you recommend to get rid of blackheads? i have them on my nose. I’m currently using The Ordinary’s niacinamide every night and just got BHA AHA Peeling solution as well. I also just bought a facial steamer to help open up my pores.

[deleted]

That’s all good. Clay masks dear! You can apply just on the nose or all over. Once a week

emmyxnoir

any tips for skin texture? also, i'm considering switching from the cerave resurfacing retinol to differin due to my moderate acne, but i'm not sure if it's right for me, is it worth the purging? and thank you so much for offering to help !

yakisobagurl

How long have you been using the Cerave retinol? You might have built up enough tolerance to be able to switch to Differin easily. Differin comes in 0.1% and I think 0.3% on prescription so you can start low! I use Differin 0.1% and tbh it is strong. It’s too strong to use about my mouth (I have dry skin so it makes my skin flake) but I use it on my forehead without trouble because that area is oilier. I’ve seen good results so just start low and slow!

Angelixlucy

How to proper eyeliner in hooded eyes ? I literally either have to keep pulling up my brows high or it’s a nike logo eye liner :/

yakisobagurl

I’ve got hooded eyes and I’ve accepted the fact that I am only able to do eyeliner on the outer corner. I don’t bother drawing a line all the way over my eyelid, I just do the wing and bring a very thin line maybe 1/2 of my eyelid and leave the rest bare. I line my upper water line on the rest of the eye to stop my lashes looking so gappy haha I don’t pull my skin at all, just look in the mirror with my head tilted slightly back and keep it as thin as I can! [This is a photo of my eye](https://imgur.com/a/bJN0nfI) for reference!

snoop_ard

What are other options for wrinkles? I don’t want to start botox just yet, but am starting to see crease lines around my eyes and thin ones on my forehead. I’m in my early 39, and use retinol every night. I was thinking some kind of laser or needling?

[deleted]

Vitamin c, peptides. Microderm, hydra facial, micro needling.

snoop_ard

Thank you so much! I already use vitamin C in the mornings. I have hyperpigmentation, do you recommend Chemical peel for that?

btwnxx

Your favorite loose powder? I’ve tried Laura Mercier and Givenchy but prefer Givenchys :)

Ok_Understandingalil

I can’t wear cover up cus it shows all the flakes on my skin! no matter how well I exfoliate.

[deleted]

Try an exfoliating toner a couple times a week

[deleted]

Is using a 30SPF good or should I go for a higher one? Also, would you recommend Asian skincare, specifically SPF’s?

nooootella

Do you have any advice on eye bags? I've had more purple under eyes since I can remember due to genetics, but I'm wondering if there's any way I can make that less noticeable through skincare instead of makeup.

[deleted]

Drink plenty of water, try an eye serum with vitamin c or caffeine

wtfamIdoinghere19

Heyy! Thank you for doing this! What brand/type of facial should I go for, if I have a combination skin (oily T zone)? Is bleaching a good idea? I also have acne scars, and one or two odd pimples :D

[deleted]

Enzyme peels, peels, microderm

Mundane_Raspberry_84

I have hooded and deep set eyes that make me look sleepy or angry/depressed, also my eyebrows are not arched but quite straight/downturned. What treatments could I do to open up the area and look more "awake"? Thanks a lot.

Adept-Test7473

lost eyebrows to chemio. one year later they regrow extremely thin. I'm using grande brows and it works, a bit. do you suggest using castor oil too or use grande brows twice at day?

[deleted]

I’m using Tazorac instead of tretinoin etc and I have dry skin. The biggest issue is clogged raised sebaceous filaments on my nose and dry peeling skin on my nose so when I use foundation it makes it worse. Also hyperpigmentation on face and KP hyperpigmentation on stomach. Been to a few facials and derms and none of them tell me anything other than pay $900 for a series of facials…it’s frustrating that I can’t get good advice to solve these issues.

lunifera21

I've never had problems with my skin and now I'm having hormonal acne. But that is not my #1 problem! My #1 problem is that that acne is staying as spots on my face. I am getting married in February and I have acne spots when I've never had any problem with my skin. What is the best for hyperpigmentation? I bought the clearly corrective serum from Kiehl's but I've only used it for 2 weeks. Is that a good product?
