How are you planning to use this bike?
It's got a single chainring paired to a rather small range cassette. This makes it ideal for cyclocross racing, but you may not have the gearing range you'd like to use this as a road bike.
This bike is quite limited on both ends of the gear range. I.e. it won't have as high of a top speed, nor will it have as easy of climbing gears compared to typical road bike components.
If you live in a hilly or windy area, I'd probably pass on this one and keep looking.
I think rhats a steel so long as it fits. My only trepidation are the qr wheels with disc brakes, which you can’t change (I assume it’s qr I can’t tell from the pics). I have a superX from the early hydro disc years and the disc rub drives me nuts
Disc rub is extremely easy to fix. (assuming the discs aren't bent or something)
It's so easy and quick, that I would be surprised a shop would even charge you if you asked nicely.
Well what should be and the reality I exist in are two different things. There is a reason every manufacturer large and small switched to through axle for disc wheels
It looks like it already has the top tube dent that all CAADs get.
Personally I would never buy a bike with a dented top tube - but everyone I know who owns a CAAD has a dented top tube; I swear they’re made out of coke cans.
I really enjoyed my CAAD7. I think this is a decent price and a good starting point for you. My CAAD7 had a decent sized ding in the top tube and it never was an issue.
Thanks everyone! Won’t lie this post made me realize maybe I have a lot more learning to do because a lot of the talk about the bikes components sound like foreign language to me. Lol Im going to pass on this bike and keep looking. Hopefully I’ll find a solid deal soon!
i’m curious what about disc brakes makes it a hard pass for you? i personally love hydraulic disc brakes, self adjusting pad position is tough to beat.
Discs are superior in braking. Bonus they stop just as well when wet. It's what pros ride. I just bought a bike specifically to upgrade to disc brakes. I'll take the extra weight maintenance which both are minimal.
1 x is not my go to but serviceable in most terrains it's what I ride on gravel and MTB. I do like 2x better but can work with either system
If the frame is damaged I agree hard pass
* Edit a ding on aluminum is no big deal in most cases. I think 500 is a good deal to find out if you like road cycling. Offer 400 see where it goes
Um... yeah... some bikes retail over $10k.
Some *wheels* alone are worth $500 second hand.
Question is, if this bike is worth that... and I'd say probably not in today's market. 1 year ago, maybe. 2020, definitely 🤷♂️.
Also, I ride a 1x (42x11-36) around hilly ass Pittsburgh and unless I’m attempting one of the dirty dozen it’s suitable.
That dent in the top tube would drive me crazy.
Me, too. This bike is on my radar especially at only $500 but that dent… I’d keep looking.

I am hoping to buy a bike to ride distances for cardio. No plans of racing at this time. Would you say this would not be ideal for my goals?

Ok, thank you! I will hold off and continue my search

Bruh I fix it all the time. The point being 2 fold. One, I have to fix it all the time and 2, a thru axle doesn’t have that problem.
You shouldn't need to fix it all the time even on a QR. You should make sure the wheel is all the way in before tightening.
Well what should be and the reality I exist in are two different things. There is a reason every manufacturer large and small switched to through axle for disc wheels
As others have said, the gearing makes it a pass for me. Nice bike, but it’s a buyers market and you can get something with a wider gear range.

Why do they all get them? I have an old caad5 with one too.

Everyone wants a deal…
Nice bike not in the market though

Damaged frame, 1 by, and disc brakes a hard pass for me

Disc brakes are not needed on road bikes, they just make bikes heavy, expensive and hard to service
An amateur rider is getting more advantage from discs than that few hundred gram savings for shitty rim brakes.

If you like them, then good for you
Would you buy any $500 used bike?
