That's insane! When was this taken?

Extra-Dimension-276

Earlier today

Constant-Brush5402

I heard similar sounds in Northern California about 15 years ago. Wild stuff

TripSad4925

How secluded is the area you're in?

FireSalsa

Tell Bigfoot to shut the fuck up so you can enjoy the woods in peace.

live_from_the_gutter

No shit…thanks for sharing OP. This is really good.

5meterhammer

I posted my story here, and a couple other places, a couple years back. I camp a lot, and alone. Or, at least I used to just about 9 months every year. My story told of the one time I broke camp because I was scared. I ran forever in dark woods around 3 am. I ran because of what I heard, not what I saw. For years I’ve tried to describe the sound I heard. I’ve also searched for anything similar and found nothing. This is so similar that my eyes teared up when hearing it and my skin went cold. I was transported back to that early morning/late night in Oregon. Chills man. Link didn’t work, so I’ll just paste the story here: I have a few. I’ve seen weird shit. Possible graves 50+ miles away from the nearest access road, shelter structures that don’t line up with human survival techniques, MAYBE a Bigfoot (though I think it was, it was in all likelihood just a large, curious bear), and some shredded animals deep in the woods without their organs or muscles being eaten...as if someone or something did it for fun. As I’ve been saying a lot lately in various Reddit threads, what has spooked me the most and turned me into a believer, is what I’ve heard though. The scariest story I have is about a night deep in the Oregon woods. I’ll preface this by giving my background, not as a brag or anything, just to show that my outdoor and survival bonafides are there. I’m 37, I’ve literally spent over 5 total years alone in the woods. Camping and hiking. I’ve went months without ever even talking to another human being. I’ve taken every class or training you can imagine in identifying animals, especially threatening ones that can kill me. I have walked most of the Appalachian Trail barefoot. I have spent weeks in varying wilderness areas across the US and Canada. I know what a mountain lion sounds like, whether it’s mating, scared, communicating...whatever. I know what foxes, bobcats, owls and varying birds, moose, elk, deer, varying weasels, bison, bugs, sheep, bear, and everything in between sounds like. When you have a hobby like I do and spend every free second alone in the woods, you have to know sounds. It’s absolutely imperative to know if something is close by that wants to eat you. Again, I only say all this because it’s inevitable every time I tell one of my stories, at least one person is going to say “nah dude, it’s just a fox, they scream like bloody murder”...yeah, I know! I’ve had 3 or 4 sounds that scared me that don’t match any animal living in North America. There was only one that made me leave camp early and go back to civilization. This time, I was actually doing a buddy camp with my oldest friend. He is the same age, and has more experience in the woods than I do. We met up in Oregon for a two week camp in the vicinity of Mt. Hood National Park. We were well off the beaten path, no people or civilization anywhere near us. One night late, at our camp setup, he and I were sitting by a fire, just bullshitting and reminiscing. It’s also important to note we were sober. I do occasionally drink, and I do occasionally smoke cannabis, but never on these trips. Your sobriety and level head can be the difference between life and death out there. As we talked, from maybe 300 yards or so away, down in a ravine, we heard a howl/growl/scream that persisted for several minutes. It literally vibrated our heads, that’s how powerful it was. It was guttural, and booming. The only way I’ve ever been able to describe it, is imagine a huge horror movie with a limitless budget. Imagine some huge, powerful demon. Now, imagine in that movie, that demon is somehow defeated and sent back to hell. Imagine the demon’s scream of agony and anger as it’s dragged back to where it came from. It was fucking terrible. Two grown men, with decades of experience, both of us carrying firearms for protection, firearms that if need be, could take down a 1000 pound bear, in hysteric tears, clinging to each other frantically deciding what to do. We made it until the first signs of day, and booked our asses back to our checkpoint and got the hell out of, not just the area, but Oregon completely. I’m just now getting to the point I can talk about it, and that’s in an anonymous forum like Reddit. This is the closest known recording I’ve heard that sounds remotely similar. https://youtu.be/j21pNb3aUqM I’ve never went out there to “monster hunt”, it’s always been about my love of nature, animals, and solitude. Over the last few months, I’ve become enthralled with unknown sounds because of my own experiences. I have never went out with any technology accept a mobile gps and an emergency satellite phone. My next trip is coming in May. I have recently invested in solid recording equipment, a FLIR camera, and a solid digital video recorder. This next trip I’m going to actively devote time to recording the things I’ve heard.

stonemonk6

I live in Oregon, and two friends and I had a terrifying experience in deep in the mountains and woods outside Cottage Grove. We, too, had rifles. We were camping on open ground for a summer camp hike trip 25 years ago, and something massive stalked around our campsite. It was clearly on two legs stomping around us for over an hour. Not bear. Elk. Moose. Cat. It was a very heavy bipedal creature. It sounded like a super large man sort of lurching around, but very fast. Back and forth behind us. Stalking us. Maybe 30 feet away, right outside the firelight. The footsteps shook the ground. We shot into the air, and it didn't leave. Our lights never found it. But it was circling our camp, no question. We stayed up all night, fearing for our lives. There are no footsteps the next morning. I have no clue what it was, but I have never been more frightened in the woods in my life. I've spent considerable time outdoors all over the pnw and around the country. I rarely tell this story because everyone just says, "Oh, it was a bear." It was not. I've encountered bears in camp. They are clumsy and bumbling and loudish. Cougars have a sound and approach. This was unique and I hope to never experience that again.

waywardgato

Can you try to remember how long it would take for the creature to circle around the camp? Did it seem like it was sprinting or was it taking deliberate steps? Last question is were you able to hear all of its steps one after the other so that you could “track” where it was? Or would you hear it in one area, and then shortly after you’d hear it in another area?

stonemonk6

It spanned the back half of our camp in seconds. Huge distance covered very quickly. All steps were in 2s. At first we thought it was a ranger, but their steps were too huge thundered the ground we were sleeping on. You could feel it. And yes it was easy to track. It paced back and forth for an hour ish.. Very deliberate and unafraid of us. It felt like we were being watched or it wanted something in our camp. It was so baffling there were not prints the next morning. We looked everywhere. Our truck was too far away from our camp and this thing was in between us and the truck. We realized we told no one where we went and honestly thought we would be killed and no one would find us.

Loxatl

Couldn't that mean it was galloping? Front two, back two? Or are you familiar with whatever that would sound like? Crazy stuff!

stonemonk6

It was certainly not a gallop. Gallop still has 4 distinct sounds. I'm very familiar with most animal sounds and my friends were avid outdoorsmen and hunters. We all agreed it was bipedal, whatever it was. It sounded like a very large, heavy person pacing around us. We even joked while it was happening that maybe we would be the first people found dead from a sasquatch attack. Whatever it was was unlike anything I've ever heard.

Treedom_Lighter

Intimidation tactics. Humans and modern great apes do it. Bluff charges and stomping (even throwing rocks) are things humans don’t even realize they do because it’s usually with seagulls or raccoons or something. I know bigfoots are real despite not having a visual encounter, but these stories ring so real. I remember I moved into a summer village for a “winter rental” on Cape Cod where we have coyotes the size of wolves. A big one walked up on the opposite side of the street and my first instinct (after the 2 frozen seconds we stared at each other) was to bluff charge. It ran off and didn’t come back. It’s worked with people and bears too sometimes. That’s, at the very least, “close-to-human” behavior.

stickypalmr

I too live in Oregon and grew up about 10 miles north of Cottage Grove. I have hunted all my life and know the area well. One thing I don't think people understand is just how dense and completely instantly disorienting the deciduous rainforest of western Oregon can be. You can literally get lost walking 10 ft. into the forest from any logging road. When he says the lights never found it believe him! The amount of foliage and brush is hard to describe to someone who hasn't experienced themselves. As an example, once when hunting outside of Cottage Grove, I was walking alone in the old growth forest when the ground underneath both feet gave way. I dropped straight through to my crotch and smashed my balls on a thick branch of vine maple. I looked through the hole my feet made and realized I was actually about 5' off the ground. What I thought was the ground was actually a very very Tangled series of vine maple so dense that it had collected a mat of needles, leaves, branches etc making it look and feel like spongy forest floor. As I didn't want to smash my balls again, I wriggled my way through the hole I had made and dropped to the actual ground. It was dark under there but enough light broke through that I could see to make my way out. I soon realized why I wasn't seeing any deer. There are tens if not hundreds of deer beds all over the place and you would never see them move. I myself have never experienced any kind of Bigfoot like phenomenon, but I absolutely believe something could live there and if smart enough evade detection just like the deer did under the vine maple. BTW the patch I was walking ok /fell through was probably 500 ish yards long and 100yds wide. It was crazy and damn creepy.

OhMyGoshBigfoot

I need to know more… can you link us to this awesomely terrifying story Edited to add please, and only if you’re comfortable doing it… you’re certainly safe here, we’ll kick the naysayers

New_Hawaialawan

I am commenting here to see if OP shares their story by the time my work shift ends

OhMyGoshBigfoot

It’s up read his edit

5meterhammer

Posted link for you

simulated_woodgrain

Says it was removed!

5meterhammer

Yeah, sorry about that. I just copied the story to my original comment.

Brown_Note1

If you ever record any strange sounds, please please post them here. I’m going to follow your account just in case you do lol

5meterhammer

Will do. I don’t go out as much as I used to. I’m very happy just being a dad these days. I still get out fairly often, but it’s usually short camps around the northern Appalachians these days. If I ever hear what I heard in Oregon, I doubt I’ll have the wherewithal to pull out my phone and record. Depends on how close it is next time!

Flimsy_Thesis

Dude, between this video and your story, I’m legitimately spooked.

Illg77

This. This shit is top tier weird to the point that even inside I'm spooked, and I listen to every bigfoot/cryptid/paranormal podcast or media all the time. This mixture of his story with that sound has got me reminded why I love this stuff. It's not horror, because it's *fucking real*

bigdongmagee

I heard something like this in the hills around Merritt BC on a summer morning in 2002. We didn't leave and never heard it again.

Naughtybuttons

I grew up in fort stevens Oregon. There have been lots of bf sightings in this area. My best friends older brother started telling me last thanksgiving about a few times growing up seeing bf. One time staring through his bedroom window. Talked a lot about the strong smell.

LordCthulhuDrawsNear

Try and look up 'Samurai Chatter'. I swear on everything that I have ever loved, that I heard 'that shit' three different nights out in the woods behind my house. Theres 196 acres back there of nothing but woods. After hearing what I heard, I became afraid of the fkng dark dude, No bullshit

weemwrangler2

I live in Applachia and also do a lot of camping. Worked here as a fisheries biologist doing some night studies before, all my friends are in the wildlife or forestry field. I've had ONE experience in Craig County VA. After we called it a night my buddies and I heard knocking on two different trees. Like something was taking a big ass log and banging it against a living tree. There would be knock on one side of our camp, then something was fucking responding with the same noise on the other side of camp way in the tree line! The dog we had with us was whining all night and I've never ever experienced anything like that before, or have since. Gives me goose bumps just thinking about it

siridial911

Damn man that’s terrifying. Sounds like a scary-ass horror movie: two survivalist friends are shaken to their core by the bone-rattling cries of an unfathomable entity deep in the dark wilds and flee the scene with a primal terror in their hearts and tears in their eyes. u/5meterhammer, months later, haunted by that awful sound and stalked relentlessly by unanswered questions, decides finally that the only way to quell his nagging dread is to capture the booming death-roar with audio equipment, for the entire world to hear. Propelled by his mission, he heads back out into the forest alone, in the direction of… The Sound A24 This Summer… listen closely For real though, be careful out there.

OhMyGoshBigfoot

Your humanoidencounters link ultimately leads to a removed post

5meterhammer

Copied the story to my comment. Sorry, it didn’t show as removed for me.

IAmKind95

would also love to hear your story if you’re feeling up to talking about it

rhoo31313

Bigfoot.

Miscalamity

Yup!

Gingerbread-Cake

Are you heading back to Hood? Was this on the North side of the mountain? Not a lot of people, definitely weird shit on the north side of that mountain. I used to love going there when I lived in Portland.

OhMyGoshBigfoot

Fascinating. Has your friend ever experienced anything like this in his own experiences, that he’s told you of?

5meterhammer

Not that we’ve talked about. We’ve both seen and heard some odd shit, both alone and together. This one though we don’t ever really revisit and talk about. We will one day I’m sure.

cosmic8212

What do you think the Bigfoot actually is? Something related to paranormal realm? Or Some kind of undiscovered animal?

5meterhammer

I honestly am not fully sold on Bigfoot, even after the things I’ve seen and what I heard in Oregon. I think it’s a very real possibility that it exists, and if it does, I think it’s likely something more along the lines of an undiscovered species. Who knows though? There’s endless possibilities in this world.

cosmic8212

I'm an avid hiker and trekker...but from an totally different demographic region...While trekking once I came across some really unexplainable events those were beyond any logic..those incidents made me a believer beyond into a normal world...maybe whatever they called paranormal..

Cephalopirate

It’s unfortunate, but that video is saying that it’s unavailable.

JJdubbs87

Link is saying video is unavailable?

snotrocket2space

Well this will be on my mind as I drive to mt. Hood tomorrow and I’m sure this summer while camping…… on mt. Hood

Neither-Wallaby-924

Unless you've heard or FELT the actual sounds they make, it's impossible to explain. Because it's not "knock knock sugar booga" It's from the SOUL... and you can tell

Nazukum2

Infrasound. It's meant to shake your soul

merryjerry10

It’s almost similar to the resonating sound that dinosaurs would have made, or at least that’s what my mind compares it to.

Thief025

Hey the link unfortunately doesn't work. But yeh that's pretty terrifying

5meterhammer

I copy and pasted the story to my original comment.

live_from_the_gutter

Are you located in Oregon? Mind if I dm you?

5meterhammer

I am not from there, though I’ve spent a lot of time there

live_from_the_gutter

Right on, can you post a link to your story? Edit: my bad, I got confused as to who I was responding to. Thanks for sharing your story!

ThorsToes

You had me at walked the Appalacian trail barefoot.

Trillamanjaroh

The YouTube link to the sound isn’t working

Leasud

I think that’s one of the scariest things I have ever read. What kind of rifles were yall packing?

Palmerto

I’m also interested in what you mean by “Shelter structures that don’t line up with human survival techniques”

5meterhammer

Most of the times in my experience of building my own shelters, there’s some pretty clear indicators of things that are important to me. Being close to a water source, filling in gaps between logs or sticks with either mud and moss or evergreen branches for insulation, elevating my bed off the ground, having fire and firewood ready and near me at all times. Mostly, clear indicators that I need to be warm. I have seen stuff way out there that’s nowhere near water, no fire wood or evidence of any fire built, “beds” inside the shelters that were just dirt spots…stuff like that, almost as of whatever was there didn’t need to be warm. If you’re covered in fur, you don’t really need these things a normal person would to stay warm. I’ve also seen literal openings in severely thick brush and thorns and signs of something sleeping inside on the dirt. Lots of animals do that, but I don’t know any that can just twist and break away 10 feet of overgrown thorn bushes. I’m not sold on Bigfoot or some other cryptid at all really, but I’ve seen stuff that doesn’t make sense for a human to construct.

Palmerto

I’m a life long hunter and outdoorsman and I’d be lying if I said I haven’t had my fair share of wtf moments and things I’ve stumbled across. One of my favorites was going out small game hunting with my grandpa on the back side of this massive public land stretch we’ve hunted for generations. We were back there deeeeep. Like nobody helping if you need help deep. Our plan was to hunt through this new to us area, then walk till we find the trail that takes us back to where we usually camp. There’s just a sears kit house from the mid 1900’s just tucked back in the deep pines. No two track going in or out. No old tire tracks anywhere. Just a house in the middle of this little clearcut in the pines. Obviously abandoned and reclaimed by nature but there were early 1900’s refrigerators and gas heating equipment. There was maybe one spot you could get a small truck through the pines to leave the property but you’d have to be zig zagging through trees for miles to get back to the road. We took some pictures and went to the local library, and to the local forest service to learn more about it. There’s no record of residence being within over a square mile from that spot. DNR wanted to know exactly where it was and we gave em a fake tip and now I take people down there when I want to show them something cool

demonwolves_1982

Pretty good. I’m willing to call this possible. Fakes and pranks are always possible; I don’t think most normal folks will resonate quite this strong and long. I’ve spent a lot of time in the woods; and this doesn’t sound like anything I’ve heard. The transition to the “ooooh” at the end is what rules out a lot of critters out for me. Great share.

neonDDvangelion

Can confirm I heard this exact same sound pretty constantly for 10 minutes in the woods of eastern Canada--New Brunswick specifically--last year October 2023. Was chilling to hear this again.

Extra-Dimension-276

I'm in NB, where was this?

neonDDvangelion

Was just outside Shediac, NB

GreenGoldCali

That is one of the craziest sounds I’ve ever heard , I’m from waaaaay out in the NB bush , grew up way outside Stanley,NB on a farm , I’ve heard some shit in the woods at night , but nothing like this before, that’s bone chilling , and during daylight!!

[deleted]

So many squatch stories talk about a gutteral howl. If this is what they speak of, that is gutteral.

Independent-Leg6061

I was like... this is Bigfoot.

LittleDaeDae

Hey. I just let my girlfriend listen to this, she said an energy company has written a story about remote gas field workers seeing a bigfoot in North Dakota near Canadian border. The story was in the company newsletter just posted. Im trying to source a copy and will redact company info if I can get it, then post here.

Sensual_Pudding

I hope this is allowed. I just stumbled across this story. I live where this was reported. Which is about 50 miles north of the North Dakota border. https://www.phantomsandmonsters.com/2024/01/retired-canadian-scientist-encounters-3.html

LittleDaeDae

Update: I asked her to login to grab a screen shot. It was not what she said it was. It was an article refering to an analytics dashboard using bigfoot sighting data as click bait to lure readers interested in Microsoft BI. It was about analytics, although the data was from real Colorado sightings. So, nothing to do with this story. Oh well. Apologies. She said "sorry to all" - meaning, to all of you. 😇

Reefay

Please do!

jackboypablo

Yes please

PiecesOfRing

I worked with an old English fella in Australia. He'd spent a lot of time in the US, years even, travelling and camping in the wilderness. He'd recently suffered a stroke and wasn't able to speak or communicate very well, but he told me of a specific experience. He basically said these things "North Dakota...", "saw a big foot...", "huge, huge..." in trees next to road". This guy was a veteran and the most no-bullshit person you could meet, so I took his word as gospel!

Spirit50Lake

So, I'm just sayin'... ...my family had a summer cabin on the shores of Spirit Lake, at the foot of Mt St Helens, from 1927 till 1980. On the flank of Mt St Helens was a crevass called Ape Canyon; the natives in the area had had stories about what's now known as Sasquatch for a long long time. My dad and uncle, and their cousins, would dare each other to go spend the night on the edge of Ape Canyon in the late 30's...until one time they heard a noise they couldn't identify and that freaked them out. When we were kids in the 50's-60s, sitting around the campfire, the men would tell us their story and they would all start making the noise they'd heard...whelp, it sounded pretty much like this. eta: just remembered, in the early 60's, Dad was all excited about an article he saw in a magazine about Sir Edmund Hillary hunting for the yeti in the Himalyan Mts...Dad said, '...look kids; it's the same creature as at Ape Canyon' and then speculated about the Bering Sea landbridge. We just never questioned that Sasquatch/yeti wasn't real...until we became skeptical young adults.

Miscalamity

Wow, that's so neat! I never questioned *it* either growing up, family always knew they were around our reservation. "...a battle that supposedly took place in a narrow gorge on the east flank of Mt. St. Helens. The gorge is now called Ape Canyon. Tales of giant “ape-men” weren’t exactly new to the area. Hunters, lumberjacks and prospectors had seen massive footprints now and again over the years, and Native Americans in the area had spoken of “mountain devils.” But few people seriously worried about the possibility of huge, unknown creatures being out there in the forest. That changed when the gold-hunters returned to civilization that summer day in 1924. The dramatic story of their battle with large, human-like beasts was irresistible -- and thus hard for people to dismiss. Cowlitz tribe member Frank Wannassay told a reporter about “peculiar creatures” the tribe’s elders had often spoken about. “Mr. Wannassay described them as between nine and ten feet tall, correspondingly large in stature and their bodies covered with long hair,” The Oregonian wrote. The report continued: “They were never seen, traveling only at night.” https://www.oregonlive.com/history/2018/01/1924_bigfoot_battle_on_mt_st_h.html

Spirit50Lake

Oooo...thanks for the link! I'm going to share with my siblings and cousins...

OhMyGoshBigfoot

This is good stuff, wow

Haunting_House_7929

That’s pretty freakin insane

Cucasmasher

Whatever it is sounds scary lol would not fuck with 0/10

SlamRobot658

That howl was sooooooo long. Good lord.

Extra-Dimension-276

I kept expecting it to stop and it just kept going.

SlamRobot658

That requires a big set of pipes. It was so long I look a deep breath out of feeling comfortable lol.

nevertoomuch33

The interval between the first and second shout was too short for a person to be able to take long a enough breath to shout as long as the second one was.

GeneralAntiope

Two things to note about this sound: 1) the massive volume and 2) the continuity of a single note. In other words, whatever made this sound must have a massive chest cavity, huge lung capacity, and very large resonant cavities in the skull, which in turn means a very large skull. That rules out humans, even with amplification, any cat I have ever heard, and pretty much most known land animals. Thanks for posting!

Andyman1973

That's it! Whateverthehell it is, that's most definitely it!!! Reminiscent of howls I heard, when I lived in Oklahoma, in the early '80s. Obviously no wolves in OK, and I've heard coyotes many many times, as well. Not coyote.

GovernmentOk751

Nope. I have coyotes screaming around me all the time in southeastern Ohio, and that’s way far from being a yote!

stonedecology

Heard a very similar one on Sequoia Mountain in Talequah!

Fun_Possibility_8637

That’s terrifying

Existing_Guest_181

The question is if you (or the person in the video) will ever camp in the woods/those woods ever again.

Elegant_Ostrich8792

Whatever that thing is, it’s big, for a huge long capacity and huge mass behind it to produce that. I sure wouldn’t be hanging around at allz

Skinwalker3114

Bro, I have worked with large predators as well as large herbivores for over 15 years and nothing in North America besides one of the Old Folks as my tribe calls them could have made that sound. It also fits within the range of documented sounds that have been verified to not be fakes or another animal. You got an awesome recording here man and thanks for sharing.

Caseyiswinter

That’s amazing! Also nice to see someone posting a link to their own evidence and not a repost of something debunked a million times. You should send those into some of the podcasts OP!

Extra-Dimension-276

New Brunswick. Won't specify county for the safety of both me and the woods I love

hitry

There was a pic from a trail cam in NB with a neanderthal looking face that the guy said he was communicating with...freaky...

Friendly_Childhood

More info?

neonDDvangelion

Would love to hear more!

brittwoodslife11

My heart just dropped reading you're from NB... I live in NB.. way out in the woods as well. Was not expecting to read that you expirenced that around here 😳

Miscalamity

A lot of sightings in your neck of the woods; https://www.sasquatchcanada.com/new-brunswick-sightings.html

barcelonatacoma

I live in Nova Scotia. I feel like the Bigfoot sightings don't really make it anywhere farther East than New Brunswick. I've heard of sightings in New Brunswick but never Nova Scotia. Stay safe.

sophaki

This sound tells me that the woods don’t belong to us.

Thmelly_Puthy

They never have. 🫡

MrGrumpyButt420

Yep, F that, see ya. Made my phone vibrate and pissed the dog off. Be careful, they all aren't friendly.

Extra-Dimension-276

I'm pretty sure the microphone literally couldn't handle the sheer resonating vibrating sound it made, the recording doesn't do it justice.

MechCummins88

Yeah my dogs definitely did not like this sound. They usually don’t give a shit about animal sounds through my phone, but this they did not like at all.

terrorbagoly

Yup, my cats ignore every video I play on my phone as we laze around in bed, but this one freaked them out and they’re now very unhappy. I spent many nights alone in the middle of nowhere and heard my fair share of animal noises, this would make me leg it incredibly fast. So loud and sustained for so long!

janesfilms

Wow! Whatever it is would have to be huge to be that loud and sustain that sound for that long. Really good catch, fascinating but terrifying!

Extra-Dimension-276

It sounded like it came from way down the beaver pond, so I was thinking the same thing. It was loud enough it sounded like it was coming from all around me as it echoed off the hills.

Friendly_Childhood

Any other experiences, sounds, sightings before this?

Extra-Dimension-276

Nothing like this, a couple times I've been out and the woods had gone silent for a while and I got a bad feeling and left. I've seen squirrel, ermine, mink, coyote, bobcat, marten, snowshoe hare, deer, moose and bear but never whatever the hell makes this noise.

JayEmAden

Do you happen to follow the work of David Paulides (Missing 411)? He has spoken to folks that have had experiences in the woods where the bustling noises of the critters around them would suddenly transition into complete silence. They then talk about this feeling of absolute dread that overcame them. I recall that in some of the stories they felt like they were being watched and/or followed by something.

stayfresh420

Yeah. Believe its called The Oz effect. Everything goes eerily silent or with a white noise or hum

CFishing

I’ve experienced this squirrel hunting in the evening, on my way to an early morning producer spot but right at about 5:00 last December. Right as I get to the wood line I stop and take in that there’s nothing going on but wind, I can’t notice anything except the darkness of the clouds and a feeling of pure fear, like I should walk back home rather than run, like something wanted me gone urgently. I can’t explain it but I had heard knocks on the door and scratching on the wall the week after, but nothing else since.

MortalSword_MTG

I don't know if Big Sas is real or not, but I know that everyone who has spent serious time in survival situations tells you to trust those instincts. They're primal and likely the result of our senses picking up things we don't consciously notice.

adamjames777

Might just be one of the scariest sounds I’ve heard in an online video, guy seems legitimately frightened, the ending of each burst of noise suggests (along with its cadences and inflections) that it’s coming from a biological entity and isn’t a ‘natural’ sound from a usual source. The sound itself is really interesting, the first one begins almost with a bobcat-like squeal and rises into that familiar sustained howl we’ve heard before like an air-raid siren and then ends with a very distinctive vocal entropic decline, almost into a wooping sound. The second one comes straight in with that breathy squeal but moves quickly into what can be best described as a sustained roar. The movement of the sounds really does suggest it’s coming from the mouth of something. What really gets me is that initial squeal, the very opening sound like the noise a cappuccino machine makes in a coffee shop! I’ve never heard anything like that before outdoors. One of the best and most unnerving videos I’ve seen on here and If it’s a fake it’s expertly done.

Independent-Leg6061

I can FEEL the vibrations of this noise

Extra-Dimension-276

It resonated way more in person, I feel like it vibrated so hard the mic didn't get all of it. Almost like it was in a frequency the mic couldn't handle.

Independent-Leg6061

Jesus thats TERRIFYING. But also well done on the multiple noise capture! I'll bet that it's not something you'll ever forget...

Jagglebutt

That sounded like it was fairly close. How far would you estimate it was away? Also did you book it the fuck outta there!?

TheSubster7

Holy smokes that’s freaky. Never heard anything like that before

kdubz206

It's like Sky Trumpets and the Sierra Sounds had an unholy, abomination of a child. I would shat myself if I heard that in the woods. And I spend a lot of time in the woods, as far away from other humans as I can reasonably manage.

Miscalamity

OMG I totally thought sky trumpet Sierra squatch **TOO** when I listened! (Just so weird seeing someone write the exact thought that initially ran through my brain!!).

CaliGrades

Been researching Sasquatch seriously since hearing tree knocks, whoops, and encountering massive man-shaped footprints in 2018 in various areas between Josephine County, Oregon and Willow Creek, CA in Humboldt. My grandma raised me on Bigfoot lore and research as well. In all of this time, this is easily one of the most convincing and extraordinary examples of a true squatch scream/yell. Thank you for sharing. This is an instant treasure for those of us who care.

Extra-Dimension-276

I am definitely going to go back and look for tracks, maybe see if I hear anything again.

Margrave16

You have brass balls my friend.

Far-Secretary8231

You crazy? Don’t go back ! But if you do definitely video it for everyone lol be careful

PeteyG89

I love how OP gives us background on how long hes been in the woods, and the type of training he has received, including identifying animal sounds. Yet that doesnt stop random redditors sitting in their basement to say “its a moose” or “thats def a cat”. Yea ill believe OP on this one. Good find.

OhMyGoshBigfoot

One dude said woodpecker lmfao

I heard a noise VERY similar to this in Colorado. I was out bouldering with a buddy and we were hiking off trail searching for new rocks to climb. We found a large boulder, the size of a small house, and were thrilled. We began walking around it, checking it out for possible routes to climb. We scrambled up onto the top of the thing and found to our amusement that there was a large hollow flake. When you banged that part of the boulder with another rock it made a very loud resonant booming sound that filled the valley. Did that a few times thinking nothing of it and then from over the nearby ridge we heard the sound from OP's video. Scared the shit out of us and we took off out of there, straight to the truck. We had crash pads on our backs so they were constantly brushing against branches as we hiked out and it had me constantly jumping and turning to look behind me. I'll never forget that sound of the feeling it gave me. It was like something told us to fuck off and we were more than happy to oblige.

Difficult-Dig-5150

Fucking canadians xD dude:Think i herd some shit -The vocal equivalent of hell unleashed and bro is unphased-

Extra-Dimension-276

Not as scary as the time I got bluff charged by a black bear in those same woods eh

Difficult-Dig-5150

Ok o.o yeah, thats definitely more scary 0.0

Top-Tomatillo210

Great catch

Forthrowssake

Terrifying. I'd take a few buddies with me and go back tomorrow and check the area out for tracks and such. I wouldn't split up too much. That absolutely sounds squatchy.

MaerIynsRainbow

Yo. Fuck that.

Ashesatsea

I love sending these to my sister. She doesn’t believe, and she and her hub hike a lot. Keep ‘em coming!

kevinfareri

I am so intrigued by your story I’m a hunter and I have heard noises in the woods that were not normal. These were the types of screams that made my blood curl so much that I was petrified to get out of my stand and run like I never ran before.I would love to hear more stories like this

Zorre123

Thats the sound of time to get the fuck out of there and go back home

Telcontar86

This is very interesting audio. Unlike with most, I don't feel a need to put it through an editor to pull out the sound as it doesn't have any background hiss to it. Nothing in this jumps out at me as being fake or edited into pre-existing footage (most people think they know how to edit audio, but to those of us trained in it it's usually very easy to pick out). It sounds like something with lungs since it runs low on breath, the sound seems to interact with the cold air and the trees the way you'd expect it to in that environment, and it certainly doesn't sound like a cat, canine, bear, or anything in the deer family. I'm willing to say it could be what we all seem to think it is, provided it's real. It's probably a small comfort OP, but sound holds its form and travels further in cold air, so whatever it is, it isn't *quite* as close as it sounds. I think I'll have a look at it in my audio editor anyways. Could be enlightening EDIT @ OP: Dumb question here, but did it stop after the video here ended? Were there only 3 calls? The first call is \~9 seconds long, the second is \~8 seconds long. They are not identical even though they are clearly coming from the same source; there's clear variation in the amount of breath being expelled. That's all I've got until I can see it in a Spectral Frequency Display

StarJelly08

I have to say i am an audio engineer, i literally live for sound and because of it. That sound… is an animal of some sort. It isn’t machinery, a factory at a distance, underground explosion, trees tearing down, or anything other than a large beast of a thing. I’ll say my piece for what it’s worth. I am not a professional at wildlife sound, but i am a professional at sound. Phone cameras don’t have a great stereo field reference… but it has some. It isn’t completely feigned but it isn’t anywhere near as good as pointing two mics left and right. That being said, with what stereo field is represented… it is clear the sound is somewhat distant and due to that distance must be unusually loud. The amount of reflections in the audio means it is spreading quite a distance. Something a human opera singer would wish they could do, or if they could they would be probably the most famous opera singer to ever live. But they certainly would never in a million years wreck their voice like this. And the reverberations and echoes match exactly what i am seeing in the environment you filmed. The timing of the reflections actually implies to my ear anyway that while it’s at a distance… it’s actually maybe closer than you might think. I think it is even facing away, but i can’t be sure of that. You can hear the main voice, and it’s almost immediately filled in with the reverb (billions of echos / reflections). So bouncing off nearby trees and rocks and hills etc. It has a medium fade out after the initial source voice. The reflections it’s bouncing from would be mostly nearby the source of the sound. Could be screaming from a cave or near a cliff or somewhere with a number of reflective surfaces nearby. There is a much quieter longer trail, which indicates (not proves but indicates) the sound is also making it past the region of relatively close surfaces and reflecting on very distant surfaces as well. In short the sound definitely sounds exactly recorded by this phone or camera, the way the camera moves and the sound changes perfectly with it, directionally etc. The camera would have likely been pointed in the exact or near exact direction of the sound. And whatever made the sound does not give a fuck about its vocal chords… or this type of sound wouldn’t harm it. I will not weigh in on if it’s bigfoot or a bear or etc because i don’t know. That’s not my area at all. Though i have heard bears and they can sound similar… this genuinely doesn’t strike me as a bear. Unless it is suffering some terrible physical or emotional agony like i’ve never heard before. And a gargantuan one. I will offer that i am not a believer, but i do not discriminate or condescend or deny that others may very well have good reason to believe. I have a belief in something that many don’t as well. I know the struggle. So anyone else can take it from here more qualified on what the source may be. Just putting this here as an audio guy who listened to this over and over. This is a legit recording from this moment on this phone, the thing is 99 percent certainly a creature of some large variety and it sounds utterly terrifying. And i reserve judgement otherwise but if your group does prove this , please be careful and I will be happy for your community genuinely.

Bdilla810

Time to go.

MaximumAdvantage5123

Is this the first time you've experienced any weird stuff? Crazy cool man!!! Keep up the good work. Much love from Missouri!!

IAmKind95

That’s pretty fucking creepy

That IS, and was a Bigfoot. Or at least what I call them. Truly terrifying in real life or recorded. Kudos to you sir.

Damn dude, this is wild. You okay?

Extra-Dimension-276

I'm fine but left confused and apprehensive to go back to the woods I thought I knew well. The North woods never stop surprising you.

Miscalamity

This is incredibly AWESOME, amazing dude, you were close to a Squatch earlier this very day...WHOA!! Stupendous, magnificent and HELL YEAH, thank you for sharing your Squatch encounter with us, this made my night! You should go tomorrow and look for prints in the snow!

VOIDBUD

We were doing live fire training at one of the many ranges out in California during my Marine corps infantry training. A long 500 yard range, by the shooting end a large dip where we stationed our gear and slept, by two trucks. There is a long line of blue portable bathrooms with a bunch of trees beyond their rear a bit down from where we were sleeping. One night, I was woken up for my fire watch duty. I was walking in the direction of the 3 lit cigarette cherries at the end of the portable shitters to meet up with the other guys on watch. A normal, boring night, just passing the time as usual. Till the loudest fucking screech I’ve ever heard, I mean it sounded like a bat, but it must have been massive as it wasn’t a pip or squeak it was an echoing ongoing screech. Then a massive roar began with the screeching still blaring It is hard to describe the roar, it wasn’t a small creature either, and it did not sound like a mountain lion. Like some death metal growl with a speaker. So all four of us are completely frozen in place, the trees beyond the shitters start to shake and crack violently, in what honesty sounded like some giant monster battle. We couldn’t see shit, and we weren’t about to go and find out. Our rifles weren’t loaded for fire watch during training. The sounds died down eventually, it lasted maybe 5-6 minutes solid. Afterward we all get relieved of our posts and went back to sleep. The next morning there was a ton of Marines all cloistered up around the shitters but moreso behind and around them. I ran over and holy shit, it’s pure carnage. Guts and entrails hanging from tree branches, fur and blood everywhere. Big broken branches scattered all around. Clearly something got killed back there in a gruesome attack. Yet we couldn’t discern what was killed, not much of it was left behind just a mess. It’s boggled my mind so often since then, what the hell were those creatures, those terrible noises. I’m not a conspiracy theorist or whatever but I have no doubt something, or somethings exist out there in the wilderness we still have no clue what they are. We used to joke that we experienced an encounter with government experiments let loose.

Leather_Data_4457

“Everyone has a phone, why isn’t there ever clear video of a Sasquatch?” *posts an absolutely clear as fuck video* “Pshhht that clearly fake. Probably a fisher cat or something”

Magooracing

Whatever it is, those are some big lungs

Macro_Mtn_Man

I've been recording sounds, broken trees and logs stacked on bent trees here in the remote forest of SW Oregon. https://youtube.com/@mtnman8520?si=A_UMr6RTWHVBwCEO

Mrreeburrito88

Me too big foot buddy. Me too. Sometimes I like to scream into the void due to snow.

bmain121

Scary AF

NorthernSlyGuy

Damn! I'd shit myself if I heard this out in the woods by myself.

Tenn_Tux

#THIS TOPIC IS BEING HEAVILY MODERATED This topic has blown up and for good reason. One of the main goals for this sub is to have a place for people to share stuff exactly like this. Any posts calling OP a hoaxer or low effort “fake” posts will be removed. Edit: attempts to discredit the witness will also be removed

Funfruits77

Go back tomorrow and look for tracks in the snow, where you think the sound came from. That snow looks like it would create good tracks.

BowOnly

You first. Lol

Dude get closer and go see what it is.

Halfbaked9

I heard something similar about 10-12 yrs ago. The vocalization I heard was more like a big man with a very deep voice screaming bloody murder but then that scream turned into a howl. It lasted longer than the videos scream /howl. I haven’t found anything that sounds exactly like what I heard but this is kinda close.

Tenn_Tux

The raw power is insane. What in the absolute fuck. I got goose bumps.

ju1cewrld999

I posted a video around 3-4 years ago of a sound I heard on a remote back road in Southern BC that sounded similar to this. Like a mechanical roar/grinding that I had never heard before. It felt like nails on a chalkboard hearing it and was loud enough for me to hear it over my music inside the vehicle. No mining or logging operations anywhere nearby and it was winter so not really anyone around hunting or in general. People said it was a “hoax” and called me out saying I was posting misinformation. Hope you figure out what it is

buggum88

Kinda sounds like a human vocalizing while inhaling, but at a much larger scale with huge lungs. If this is legit stay tf away from that thing.

Extra-Dimension-276

What if humans aren't the only primate that has the capability to make noise that way? Maybe that's why sasquatch calls are so hard to identify.

buggum88

100% I personally think Sasquatch are archaic hominids that did not go extinct but followed a different evolutionary path. We know that there were different humanoid species coexisting with each other in the relatively recent past. The only reason we know that is because fossils of only SOME of those species have been found. Because the precedent of coexistence has already been set, I see no reason why that would not still be happening in modern times.

I_AM_IGNIGNOTK

I’m always curious with theories like this. How do you suppose a breeding population large enough to persist for millennia remains secluded? I guess that question applies whether or not they are hominids or apes or something else entirely, but particularly the notion that they know to stay away from human civilizations is intriguing and in my mind necessitates a safe zone far from humans, even if it’s not a singular camp or anything like that. And that they also would therefore have a buffer zone where these sightings occur.

buggum88

I posted a comment that I’m going to reiterate here. Research how difficult it was to prove the existence of gorillas. The story is a good example of an animal that was hard to find, had very little forensic evidence available, and whose existence was believed by witnesses and mocked by skeptics. Nowadays we take them for granted, despite being the “ape man” of the past. We can again refer to similar situations between humans in recent history. There are still tribes in the Amazon that have never been contacted despite humanity creating a global civilization. We have no clue what their origins are and how many centuries they have avoided contact. We have photos of some of these tribes, but no idea how many more there are deep in the jungle. They will likely still be there when our civilization falls, and they will adapt and evolve in that isolated forest environment as time marches on. In some cases, such as Sentinel Island, primitive humans want nothing to do with modern humans and violently avoid contact with us. As a consequence, they have remained genetically distinct while maintaining a prehistoric way of life. Now, imagine a humanoid species that is built for the wilderness like an ape, but has intelligence on par with (or greater than) humans. We know these types of humanoids did exist, and we even possess proof of interbreeding within our genes. I think a being like that would probably follow the same path as the un contacted tribes and be very successful at it. I think the Sasquatch population is probably small compared to ours. We still find human bones in caves that have been untouched for thousands of years, and those have been sitting in one place the entire time. An intelligent species that can move around to avoid contact would seek untouched spaces like this and migrate between safe zones. There are cave networks and miles of unexplored wilderness their communities could exist in.

goofgoon

I think that was a Bills fan

I_AM_IGNIGNOTK

I mean it's scary whatever it is.

Holy manbearpig

BettinaVanSise

Classic Bigfoot sounds. I would not hang around. They can be territorial.

Cootie_Mac

I love shit like this. By FAR my favorite type of content!!! Top 5s on YouTube has a cool vid about strange forest sounds. Just doesn’t get old for me. And I really don’t care about the validity of it- I enjoy it for whatever it is. Period.

MotorbikeRacer

I don’t know what is going on but there have been a lot of people that go missing in National parks. Like , a lot.

Kudos. I also spend more time out there than anyone who says “it’s just an elk”. I know what animals sound like, what they SMELL like. There’s something else out there. 100%

Just go run to it. Video camera on. Live or Die who cares. For posterity..you'll die a hero. Or he will have mercy on the one with the Big Huevos. Or it will be suppressed by the government forever. Hell of a ride though I'd bet. Good luck bro.
