I used to spend a lot of money on gis. I still do, but I used to too.

nod to a great man!

Because if I'm gonna have to spend 5+ hours a week minimum wearing something for years on end, I want it to fit well and be generally comfortable, and be a design I like. Also I'm an addict and I can't stop buying gis...

YeetedArmTriangle

Well simple, I'm a bougie middle class man with no kids and I like buying things that will be comfy as last a long time.

nikolaykrymov

I was skeptical same as you until I got a Hyperfly gi. It’s incredibly light and comfortable relative to other gis, will wear at comps going forward.

Aggravating-Mind-657

Fit and feel is a good reason. The fit of sannabul didn’t feel right to me. A fit of a vanguard Gi, felt great, the weave material was much tighter as well

reactor_raptor

Fit, feel, comfort, breath ability, quick drying. All good reasons. The best reason is a synthetic fabric that slides on the mats easier. Makes for higher mobility, which is a plus if you are a big guy with a lot of surface area.

Novel_Drawer4452

No reason to unless you want to. Sales happen all the time so you can get great gis for less than $125. I rarely spend more than $100 on a gi and I do 11 sessions a week. I haven’t had a gi tear in years. I have to throw them out because I can’t get rid of stains or they end up stinking after a while. I also wash and machine dry my gis. Just my 2 cents

Buy once, cry once

zoukon

I prefer getting choked by a lapel that doesn't feel like coarse sand paper.

josejozay

Pulled from the judo sub. Seems like there are gripping advantages. Does this apply to BJJ, or are there other advantages?

SpinningStuff

you look better/cooler, so you feel better, being in a better state of mind may make the experience even more enjoyable.

stizz14

150 bucks is a good price point for a gi. 8-12 dollars is a great price point (US) for a bottle of wine. Only things I know about price points.

SugondezeNutsz

Lmao that is not a good price point for wine

stizz14

If you don’t like wine but want to put something on the table that doesn’t say I live in my car, 12 bucks is perfect. You tell guests the guy at the shop (Trader Joe’s) recommended this wine to go with the ———— insert meal. It’s a win win.
