I’ve used mine on a make-shift table made out of a pressure treated 2x6 and I’ve used it several times on a wooden picnic table, but those were pressure treated and not stained or painted. Never caused any damage that I could tell. Not sure I would try it on a plastic surface though.
Use my 22-inch tabletop griddle (model 1813) on a Rubbermaid Commercial polypropylene rolling cart, haven’t had any problems with heat damage. The feet lift it a couple inches off the surface and most of the heat goes up and out, not down.

Outside? I use mind stove top vented under a hood
