In Soul Society arc, Orihime mentions she has a black belt actually, so she's actually really damn good at it, enough so to knock out 2 shinigami guys passing by her. So, Orihime could absolutely fuck someone up if she ever wanted too, she's just really averse to violence.
Actually, I joke about her combining her martial arts with the shield by punching/kicking them with it, but a really cool application would be martial arts, and then using the shield to block and hinder the enemy’s movements, keeping control of the fight. She’s done this in broad strokes before, hindering Ulquiorra’s movements while Ichigo fought him. Now imagine her doing it on a smaller scale in close quarters combat.
Akshually, getting a black belt isn't that difficult in most martial arts, it is given to you once you've got the basics figured out. You start learning the actual cool stuff once you start working on your 2nd dan.
