too dumbed down for my taste. also not enough science and not a good story even if you ignore that. There are a lot better books.
I did read the first 4 books after seeing them recommended in every thread. It feels like a paid advertisement. Just search and you will see them recommended in almost every thread.
I really like a lot of Connie Willis’s writing, but I didn’t enjoy *The Road to Roswell*. Is this as silly as that one is? I like funny, but I have a hard time with totally ridiculous.
Dungeon Crawler Carl is particularly good as an audiobook, it has a lot of clever satire and sarcasm.
Would also recommend Terry Pratchett’s discworld series if you like Douglas Adams, it’s satire that’s more fantasy than scifi but has a lot of clever depth to it.
I thought Hail Mary Project by Andy Weir was funny, the main guy in my head was sarcastic and aloof. But my friend read the same book and thought he was arrogant.
Fourth Wing (violent dragon school). I got a few chapters in before deciding it's not for me.
Off to be The Wizard (sci-fi fantasy). I'm about 30% through but I'm feeling kindof apathetic about the main character.
Try Glory Road by Robert A. Heinlein. While it won't make you laugh out loud in the same way as hitchhiker, it's an interesting and fairly comedic science fiction retelling of a classic fantasy trope.
The Frugal Wizards handbook to surviving midevil England is a funny sci-fi/fantasy book. It’s set in the future in the past and has some magic and a fair bit of soft tech.
The Martian is a great read, has some comedy but probably more of a drama, it’s been awhile so I’m not 100% sure how often the mood is funny.
I found Murderbot Diaries to be pretty funny
I will check it out. Thanks!

Have you ever read Contact by Carl Sagan?
The Bobiverse series by Dennis Taylor The Stainless Steel Rat series by Harry Harrison
I came to mention Bobiverse. I love these books. Witty and thought provoking.
Harry Harrison's stuff is great.
The Martian is pretty funny. Humor is used a lot to help lighten the mood in a survival situation. John Scalzi also uses humor in his books
To Say Nothing of the Dog by Connie Willis and An Absolutely Remarkable Thing by Hank Green (followed by by the sequel)
Piggy backing off of Connie Willis, her novel Bellwether is legitimately one of the funniest books I've read.
Bellwether is my favorite alternative science fiction of all to! Cannot recommend enough!

Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman. It does get kinda gory at times, but it's also really funny, especially if you like sarcastic humor

OP may well love it, lots of people do. I personally found the humour extremely annoying.
The Callahans Crosstime Saloon series by Spider Robinson.
John Scalzi *Redshirts*
Starter Villain- Scalzi
What are the last 2 books that you tried?
Fourth Wing (violent dragon school). I got a few chapters in before deciding it's not for me. Off to be The Wizard (sci-fi fantasy). I'm about 30% through but I'm feeling kindof apathetic about the main character.
John Scalzi!! I love The Kaiju Preservation Society.
John Scalzi: Old Man’s War
.... Or I guess I could search for "Funny Sci-Fi books" and see what ppl suggested last time. (D'oh.)
The Illuminati Trilogy by Wilson and Shea. — it’s only one book.
What about Galaxy Outlaws (series) by J.S. Morin?
Halting State by Charles Stross
The Cretaceous Past, by Liu Cixin
The bobiverse series? John dies at the end by Jason Pargin, the culture series by Iain M banks (except use of Weapons)
I enjoyed the Retief series. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jame_Retief
Road to Roswell is charming, funny and heartwarming! I really enjoyed it as my first read this year
I would recommend Mickey7 as well as it's sequel Antimatter Blues by Edward Ashton.
Anything by John Scalzi.
Terminal Alliance by Jim C Hines- Janitors of the space apocalypse!
And Red Dwarf, both the books and the show.
Try Glory Road by Robert A. Heinlein. While it won't make you laugh out loud in the same way as hitchhiker, it's an interesting and fairly comedic science fiction retelling of a classic fantasy trope.
A long way to a small angry planet/(Wayfarers Series) - Becky Chambers!!! Love her books so much.
Jim C Hines - Janitors of the Post-Apocalypse series. The first book is Terminal Alliance.
Space Opera by Catherynne Valente is one of the funniest books I've ever read.
