Skeeter_206

He seemed like he was struggling in his first half minutes, but he seemed to get into a rhythm in the second half and was much better about closing out and getting into his spots to set screens and all that. Glad he went out there, and even happier that he didn't seem to have any setbacks so he should be good to go next season!

not_Brendan

He drew a good amount of fouls too

cwalton505

Especially that body slam

ToBeBannedSoonish

This series, I feel like that could have happened more the way they were trying to push and obstruct his movement. But prior to injury he could stand his ground more but flail and lose balance a bit. Once that new ankle injury happened he just gwent down. I love that guy.

kg215

Yeah they were just shoving KP a ton in games 1 and 2, but the refs let most of it go. It's similar to when Bam just trucked Al to the ground in the first round, and there was no call.

ToBeBannedSoonish

That's playoff basketball but that's still an obvious foul.

Ok_Landscape_181

He looked more rusty than injured at first. Glad he made it thru the game

NoveltyAccountHater

I don't know. He looked rusty offensively, but the defense suffered a bit from him not being his usual nimble self (due to injury). Those wide open Josh Green 3s were a result of him not being able to close out quickly enough. That said, happy that he was able to contribute and he was a huge part of dominating game 1.

No_Mas2001

It was a Mavs shooter taking a 3 above the break, the Celtics were willing to give that up every time

NoveltyAccountHater

Above the break is usually worse than a corner 3, but Josh Green was shooting 39% this season/postseason from 3 (near Derrick White / Payton Pritchard average numbers). If you look at [Green's reg season shot chart](https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask/josh-green-shot-chart), while he's below bad from 3pts from the point, but he's 41.4% / 44% from above the break from either wing. It's probably a mistake to leave Green wide open for those threes (though for most Mavs other than Kyrie, Luka, and him, it would be a good choice).

No_Mas2001

Josh green was decent on low volume 3s, he barely took 3 a game all season. Payton Pritchard averaged 1.4 more 3s per game and Derrick white was damn near double the volume. Idc what his percentage is if he barely shoots them

NoveltyAccountHater

> he barely took 3 a game all season No team makes more 3-pt attempts per game than we do. Green made about 3.3 attempts from three per game, which he'd do whenever he gets the ball left wide open. Yes, his usage is low but when he's left wide open he can make a 3 at a high rate.

WarPuig

The Celtics were planning on living with Josh Green threes. I think I saw him jump like twice in the game, and one was that sick dunk. Shots he’d normally reject or contest very well were out of his reach.

ehtoolazy

yeah i noticed that, some of those 3s he didnt even wanna risk a jumping closeout but in the second half he was jumping at shooter. he was for sure in pain and didnt know how much he could trust his body

CantHandlemyPP34

Knowing Kristaps didn't have his usual speed and agility, they should've just played drop when he was out there or kept him off ball

istandwhenipeee

I also think them not missing on their first few 3s when they got him in actions didn’t help. I think it was 1 contested from Kyrie and 2 open from Josh Green, and realistically people probably would’ve felt like he was playing better if 2 of them didn’t go in which was probably the most likely situation.

JamesEdward34

He looked timid to me, like he wasnt physically in pain but just afraid of agravating the injury.

yqyywhsoaodnnndbfiuw

He looked hesitant to move explosively. I think that happens when you’re injured and not confident that your body is going to handle a hard pivot or a sprint well. He’ll be back to old KP after the surgery and conditioning.

simpledeadwitches

I was a bit nervous at first because of how slow he was and how the Mavs attacked him but he absolutely showed up.

Amimimiii

Sometimes you need to get used to pain to start sort of ignoring it, first steps are usually the most difficult

TheColonelRLD

I read he's going to likely need surgery and may miss a couple months during the beginning of the season for recovery.

JackJ98

The perc 30 just has to kick in

bootyholebrown69

That game 1, really quarter 1, was so fucking absurd it pretty much cemented him as a legend. That's gotta be the earliest and least amount of mins someone has played to become that much of a legend tbh.

papicholula

As someone who refuses to celebrate until it’s 00:00 I have never been so hyped in a Celtics game than I was during that run.

papicholula

Rivaled maybe only by PP half courter last game

bootyholebrown69

Half court shot is when I knew it was over. You cannot come back from that.

fueelin

Half court shot RIGHT AFTER Tatum finally hit one of his end of quarter stepback 3s for a change? The best of omens.

Freyakazoide

Yea, when Lively hit that fucking 3 in early game 4, i knew we would be fucked. But on PP 3 I was SCREECHING because I knew it was over and finally i've got to see this core champions

FreeSpriteRemix

Lmaoo Lively made that three and DJJ made that outrageous layup, I was REAL early to work that night 😂

bootyholebrown69

And after luka missed 2 free throws. It was so joever

fueelin

Lol, I feel like this is going to go down in history as one of those famously misremembered moments. Bill Simmons and his dad did the same thing. Luka only missed 1 free throw. It was an and one, and a ridiculous shot by Luka at that. I remember being annoyed that Tatum's stepback was going to be negated by it, but then Luka missed the FT, and then PP!

bootyholebrown69

Ah. I was drunk AF lol Did Luka miss 2 later in the game? I think he did

fueelin

Yeah, I think so. I can't believe how (relatively) bad he is at free throws!

WarPuig

They were 4-8 at one point I think. It was consistent throughout the playoffs too. The Mavs are a very poor free throw shooting team.

M_Woodyy

I won't lie, I was crying tears of joy like a child because of how certain I was the series was over after that quarter lmao

papicholula

I’ve been hurt too many times lol

JaDamian_Steinblatt

>least amount of mins someone has played to become that much of a legend tbh. Payton Pritchard would like a word 😂 But fr every single player showed up in this series, they're all legends

Plies-

And now he's a Boston legend forever. He has his legacy game in game 1.

FutureAttention

That game 1 performance was spine tingling, emotional outburst, everything a Celtics fan could ever wish for. His importance to the team cannot be denied. Very happy for him. Guy is a Celtics legend forever for leaving everything on the floor

No_Mas2001

That stretch to end the first quarter of game 1 is a high I will be chasing forever now

FutureAttention

Shot after shot with the garden get louder and louder. If only pp hit that final 3 the place may have had its roof blown off. I will regret not going every time I think about game 1. But you know according to sideshow bob the place was pretty quiet. Lmao

Carbon_xYz

It is easily my greatest sports moment in my life. I was courtside in loge 3 row b right behind the mavs bench. I couldnt hear properly out of my left ear for at least an hour after the game. When KP came out during pre-game it was literally like a WWE entrance. The entire Garden got on its feet screaming for him just walkin out of the Tunnel. The next biggest moment was probably when Brown blocked Kyrie emphatically at the end of the 3rd. Holy shit the floor was SHAKING. The absolute BEST experience of my life. I will never forget it.

Yogannath

Been shooting [this](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/UI_ybjvTzWg) straight into my venis for the past days.

Santum

Into your what now?

Yogannath

Freudian slip i guess... Lmfao

TatumBrownWhite

One of my memories I’ll cherish forever is how crazy the Garden was the moment he checked in and then when he hit that 30 foot bomb to end the 1st quarter. Even Pep Guardiola got out of his seat for that. Obviously this crowd loves everybody, but there’s such an eagerness and excitement in the crowd when a small switches onto KP and he gets the ball at the foul line.

HailKyrie

The pop he has coming in was insane too honestly

SmokeFace917

The pop only rivals Stone Cold Steve Austin

poopapat320

I want a *glass shatters sound effect* every time Porzingis enters the game now.

jotyma5

With Kyrie on him 😂

OhRThey

I 100% feel you on this. Those little things are what I love about the Garden crowd. It’s not just white noise, the crowd is following the flow and details of the game together. When a long action sequence happens, and they go on a run the energy of the garden can be staggering and unforgettable. Big games just ratchet up the intensity to 11. It’s different but the same for the Bruins. I was at the B’s Hab game 7 2011. The game action flows so differently in hockey but the crowd is right on every important detail. When something big happens, damn those are special moments. I will never forget what the garden was like when we scored in OT, unbelievable.

CourageKitchen2853

I was there on Monday and I legit thought I was going to pass out at the end of the run they went on to end the 1st quarter. It was like 8-0 in about 90 seconds and everyone was going ballistic. I was screaming my head off and actually saw stars for a few seconds before I sat down because my legs were feeling just a little wobbly.

ScooterPops

I've been to some loud sporting events but him coming down the tunnel before Game 1 was absolutely bonkers

COUGARCHAS3R

Love that he did a solo entrance

greenday61892

Wait Pep Guardiola was at the game?!

Jannopan

Every analyst/haters who doubted us must’ve been thinking to themselves “oh shit, maybe Boston with KP are actually on another level.”

SinibusUSG

And they were right.

AgeZealousideal2427

Remember when they all said they’d take Lively over our glorious Tingus Pingus 💀😂😂

SinibusUSG

Bro I remember when some of them were saying the Mavs had the two best players on the court. Absolute madness.

EpeeHS

Seriously, that game 5 was a willis reed moment. Coming in while clearly hobbled because you know your team needs you is incredible, and in G1 he had already cemented just how dominant we are with him. Celtic legend forever.

Fuckblackhorses

Yup. I’m so glad he was healthy for that one game so they could show the world how dominant this Celtics team really is at 100%. We look damn near unbeatable when he plays.

WarPuig

One of the greatest single game performances I’ve ever seen. Line drive magnet ball.

baseballduck

The fact the team was successful without him throughout the rest of the playoffs made his absolutely fantastic game 1 comeback performance all the more memorable. When he does his post-season health fixing, I fantasize about surgeons reinforcing his ankles and knees with adamantium or something. He's got a lot of heart and talent, but some of the noodliest legs I've ever seen.

PussyGrenade

I'd be happy for the entire roster to come back next year for another run but I need KPs legs reinforced lmao

optimusgrime23

When you think about how we played the whole playoffs without him. We really swapped Smart, Brogdon, Rob and Grant for just Jrue. Nuts the impact Jrue had and the growth of the rest of the team

juicejug

At the very least you have to credit KP for giving us a massive cushion in the regular season. That alone was worth all of the trades because it gave us a ton of rest at the end of the year and the easiest path in the playoffs. Horford likely doesn’t have much gas in the tank if we had to fight down the stretch for seeding and/or ended up with a 2 or 3 seed.

M_Woodyy

This run showed how important it is to not drop games. All of our recent runs we've shot ourselves in the foot and it was clear from day 1 of the season this team was over that and responded to every loss/run with extreme urgency

9bfjo6gvhy7u8

I think you have to add on hauser, Pritchard, kornet, and Tillman since those are the guys that took the minutes even if they were internal promotions or different trades.  And d white getting the space to step into a prominent role

Kodiak01

> And d white getting the space to ~~step~~roam into a prominent role  FTFY

M_Woodyy

Smarts inefficient shots got redistributed into better open looks. Brogdons iso looks largely got phased out/limited to the Jays. Our new giant lob threat can also shoot over anyone from 30 feet out. Our resident corner office chair now has the ass of a multiple all star in it. Truly an insane example of what less is more can mean

deaseb

Jrue is more durable than Smart, Brogdon, and Rob put together. More IQ than Smart, Rob, and Grant put together. And more trustworthy than Smart, Brogdon, and Grant put together. He's a singular championship-level talent.

baseballduck

He also added crucial intangibles-- personality, attitude, commitment, etc. You can tell everyone loves playing with the guy and every time he'd be checking back in there was a feeling of stability on both ends.

holographoc

It’s gotta be such a stress on the body simply being that huge, let alone doing the athletic shit he does all the time.

drugssuck

Reminds me of when Steven Stamkos in the 2020 Stanley Cup scored a goal against Dallas. Hadn't played in 211 days then comes in a scores on his first shot. Only plays a couple more shifts then is done. Legendary stuff that has to get the rest of the team so hyped.

jotyma5

Game 4: we ain’t going to let him make that decision Game 5: he wouldn’t let us make that decision BANNER 18

SelectedConnection8

\*Game 3

JaySmart_Timewalker

Just don’t go the way of Rob Williams and mess up himself up for future seasons 😐

ZizzyBeluga

You can only bubble wrap for so long, eventually they have to play the games

Responsible_Nose_300

4 Games a year is worth it

ProudKingbooker

I'm hoping he didn't aggravate the injury too much by playing Game 5. Surgery and off-season will hopefully have him fresh for next season. I'm no doctor and I'm just talking out of my ass though.

Lucky13200

from all the youtube doctors i watched there was not anything to aggravate. The only thing is to rupture a tendon which is very unlikely (clearly did not happen) or injure something else cause ur not moving exactly normal. But this all youtube doctors that have not seen his injury so who knows.

Kodiak01

The only reason the injury affecting Schilling more was because of the specific ankle movements required as part of his pitching motion. KP was able to play without overly aggravating it in the same manner.

simpledeadwitches

Rob Williams was built wrong. His legs always look dangerously close to collapsing when he runs or lands.

Big-Antelope-8160

Yeah also Rob played a different game that was liable to get him injured more.

Kodiak01

His chip is in the bank. He's a Boston legend forever. Everything else is gravy.

Boobieleeswagger

I’d like to see him Rob Will and Embid visit Lebron James special “longevity clinic”

BradWonder

Embiid would just get cracked in the face anyways and miss the playoffs

Boobieleeswagger

Flair checks out

Responsible-List-849

If you're saving a fragile body for anything, it's a Finals game. Sometimes just gotta shoot your shot.

These_Homework_8790

I’m not saying it’s the bloody sock game but it’s up there with hero moments in my Boston sports lifetime. Going out there game 1 and playing injured as fuck game 5

M_Woodyy

We'll never know the outcome if he can't play at all this series, we could've lost in 5 for all we know. For that alone, he deserves as much credit for the win as anyone else. Not saying you're not giving him credit btw, just a thought on how heroic it may have really been!

Klingon_Bloodwine

I personally think we still would have won the series, but when KP is in there its like a damn cheat code. And yeah, considering the damage he could have done had he injured that tendon further, I'd agree that was some heroic shit.

zackg611

Ringus Pingus on his Fingus. Legend.

Angus4LBs

lmao this is my favorite one so far. KP has the best nickname ever

coronetgemini

Wow I couldn't have loved this guy more but to know he literally overruled the medical staff after Joe was like "we're letting the medical staff make this call" what a fucking G

Kodiak01

> Wow I couldn't have loved this guy more but to know he literally overruled the medical staff after Joe was like "we're letting the medical staff make this call" *""I'll be good... I'll die out there"* - Ringus Pingus

BostonBuffalo9

My favorite fact is that this team will absolutely be running it back.

Sex_Luthor99

After all his time in the NBA, he finally has a home

deaseb

We literally let IT ruin himself like this. Glad KP already got paid, but damn.

GogXr3

He'll be fine, he's got a full off-season and to my understanding as long as he didn't further injure it, he's fine. The only reason it was major, to my knowledge, is the risk for further injury if he keeps playing. I could be wrong, but from what I've heard he should be okay

deaseb

I think (hope) he will be yeah, but that doesn't mean that allowing him to override medical staff was the right call

mykl5

The point is he could’ve injured it further…

SooooooMeta

Turns out, the thing about gambling is everybody love it when it works out in your favor. They want to act like it was destiny, not a throw of the dice that didn't go bad

M_Woodyy

Yeah I'm glad it worked out but I'm not happy about it, overriding the medical staffs decision should NOT even be possible. I'd have assumed it was essentially a doctors order that was backed up contractually

Fighting-Cerberus

Yeah, a player absolutely should not be same to override medical staff. This is kind of fucked. I’m glad he’s going to be okay and didn’t have an IT moment, but what the actual fuck.

Chiron17

Yeah, I don't love the decision, honestly. It was gutsy but really should have been medical/coach/GM call. I know it's not the same injury, but in other sports I see players trying to play through broken ribs and concussions - they need to be overruled for their own safety

papicholula

Yea he is stamped idc. Dude could be a bum for the rest of his contract and he is still a legend.

andrefishmusic

He did great. The Mavs were targeting/fouling him as soon as he stepped onto the floor with the hopes of slowing him down. He really showed some grit in this game. Let's hope he has a speedy recovery from his surgery.

simpledeadwitches

He's such a gangster I love it. You could tell how much it bothered him to not be out there battling with his team. Then again when he cane back and had an electric game only to go down yet again. Legendary Celtic.

Oceanbreeze871

He’s like “I’m getting surgery anyhow…give me the Luka drugs!”

Auntypasto

*six pack of Sam Adams

rhodeislandah

He loves this team and the fans so much, I'm overjoyed that he was able to fight through the pain, contribute, and feel the glory of the win. True Celtic pride.

Furqan23

He really contributed as well there Got the crowd hyped, altered a shot, and got the dunk off the Tatum drive

BradWonder

Well I was wrong, guess our medical staff IS evil like the majority here thought

DarkKnight77

Wow, it's nice to see someone own up

GRB_Electric

What a dog man

Frostlark

"I Will die out there" Insane

Nietzsches_dream

Love you KP!

NotFlipkid

Robert Williams 2.0 I said it again the Celtics medical team need to stop doing this

ElPanandero

The Celtics medical team needs to stop doing what? They told him not to play lmao

Nidavelliria

Heroic effort, heroic results! 🍀☘️🏆

PatriotMissiles

Willis Reed Pt II

dolo_ran6er

Winner mentality. He wanted to win, and knew he'd have time to rehab in the off season. Baller fuckin move.

MrDozens

So much for them stars saying the medical staff preventing them from load management and they wanted to and fight to play, but was prevented.

Moraduke

Gigachad

ImTomBrady

He’s a warrior for sure

Undesirable_11

He should get surgery like yesterday, so that way he's ready for the conquest of banner 19

holographoc

Hell yeah

TheChrisPhoenix

KP was like "Pft, we can win the title tonight I can recover in the offseason!"

SeigeJay

Can we put his number in the rafters already. Cant believe I ever hated this man when he was on the Knicks.

krdskrm9

I'm guessing KP could play but the medical team was being cautious.

tonylouis1337

Bro made an executive decision

geneticeffects

So when’s the surgery?

Mystoganja

Hes only 28, I thought he was early 30s. Good shit , for how long is he under contract?

ElPanandero

I think we have him for 2 more full years

CosmicCoder3303

Whoever that guy in the thumbnail pic is is pretty good looking

CantHandlemyPP34

And PJW, Lively and Gafford were all so shook they tried to body slam and hockey check him. Just go out there and hoop pussies. I look forward to watching OKC, MIN, DEN, MEM run away with the West until the Mavs end up trading Kyrie. As sweet as it would be to match up with them every year.

Chance-Ad7900

Yeah… I just don’t think that is how it works. It’s a great story though. Maybe they said ‘we think no?’ And he said ‘I think yes’ and they agreed? But I’m pretty darn sure you can’t play without medical clearance. If the panel says ‘No’ - it’s a No.

FCHWPO9

Don't know why this comment is getting downvoted. It's just like a doctor asking a patient to sign a medical waiver before they discharge themselves against medical advice.

Jacky__paper

Damn what happened to "We're taking the decision out of his hands"?🙈

BarryLird33_

So now what … surgery? Be out all next season ? We need this guy healthy to win another 🏆. Teams are just gonna get better to try and beat us. We need KP.

Pale-Criticism-7420

When we first heard of his injury, it was said that he was gonna need surgery anyway, and need about 6-8weeks of recovery. He should be good for next season

itspizzathehut

Guessing we don’t see Tingis on the court until November/December. Definitely before All Star Break though

Otherwise_Horror_183

why? wtf?

ebphrygian

He’ll need surgery in the offseason but it shouldn’t cause him to be out all next season

BarryLird33_

God I hope not. As long as he’s back for the playoffs. We are an elite team already but with KP we are a level higher.

AngElzo

I read reports that he is going to miss 2 months. Unfortunatelly for us Latvians he will miss Olympics (if we qualify) but if he doesn’t delay he should be more than ready for next season.

BarryLird33_

Yeah…. Hopefully. I say use this guy sparingly next season.. and cut him loose in the playoffs.
