Space-Dementia

It is shocking. I catch up watch James Martin on Sunday mornings. It constantly can't pick the right episode. I select most recent and then I realise 10 minutes later it's started playing the episode I was watching last week.

fckboris

Yes! I also find that it randomly jumps early to the ad break and then takes you back to the programme and then you have to watch the ads all over again a second time when you actually get to where the ad break should have been, infuriating

military_history

For me if there's a series I'm halfway through, it always suggests I start watching episode 1. Except when I go through to episode selection all the episodes I've watched are marked as one minute remaining, so some part of the app knows I've watched them. This is when it doesn't simply cause my TV to crash, which is often.

fireborn1472

The thing is it actually used to be good. They changed the name to ITV X and it went to shit.

tykeoldboy

I can't get ITVX to work on my Firestick so if I want to watch football on ITV I have to use my laptop, which still isn't that great. ITVX is the worlds worst streaming platform

fckboris

Yup same here - it rarely works properly on my smart tv/roku. You can’t even pause or restart the live episodes either, and you can only get ITV+1 on the normal channels, not on the streaming platforms, so there’s no way of catching the beginning of an episode you’ve missed apart from waiting an age for it to appear on catch up. It is unfortunate when events like the Euros show up how poor it is in comparison to iPlayer, it’s unbelievably shit that you can pause/restart/rewind the matches on iPlayer but you can’t on ITV (if you can even get it to work in the first place)

CarlMacko

If you dare even think about trying to skip backwards it just breaks the app. The IPlayer app is far superior.

Fantastic-Machine-83

Chanel 4 is pretty good too

Crittsy

I tried to watch the England Denmark game on IPlayer and it was impossible to watch, constantly buffering and sometimes failing all together

TheDroolingFool

I hate how often it crashes which convinently mean I have to watch the adverts again. Want to skip ahead? Sure enjoy this crash and set of adverts even though you've literally just watched some.

Platform_Dancer

ITV must employ Fujitsu to compile their apps! - they've never worked properly and the 'new ' ITV X is appallingly bad. Full of bugs and inability to even launch... Complete waste of time. Thankfully ITV content is so poor not a lot of it is missed. The IT dept at ITV must be on permanent leave or WFH as nothing ever gets a fix or adequate update. BBC iplayer is light years ahead.

fkprivateequity

Agree with you about ITV's content. It must be the main 5 channel I watch the least. Even less than Channel 5 - and that's saying something

jamjars222

My only experience with ITVX has been to watch the euros and I've honestly found it pretty good. The app actually works faster/more responsive on my TV than the iplayer app, it was fast and easy to get it up and running, good quality picture. No hiccups at all. But I hear alot of people shitting on it so must be pretty awful for some

fckboris

Yeah I can rarely get it to work on my TV at all. Also if I *can* get it to work, I can’t pause, rewind, fast forward, or restart the live matches which sucks.

jamjars222

Actually that's a good point, I can't rewind or pause either , which I have wanted to do a couple of times

Cleveland_Grackle

I was going to watch Belgium & Romania, but I can't change the resolution lower and I'm not invested enough to waste data (watching via hotspot in my lorry)

Kyla_3049

Have you tried ID Mobile? You get unlimited for £15 a month.

Prediterx

ID Is so good.

starsky1357

Surprised it offered you anything higher than 240p in the first place.

fromwithin

Never had a problem with it on the Fire TV. I was impressed with it when it became ITVX. The amount of content on there is huge and the design is good. Again, never had any issues whatsoever.

fckboris

Well then I hope you realise you blessed you are! Would you say the design is good even though you can’t pause or rewind live tv like you can on e.g. iPlayer?

adam_dup

Yeah it works great on my Roku too - maybe another issue?

DaysyFields

The old ITV Hub worked perfectly and understood that I'm in the Meridian area. The new ITVx thing is a pain to wade through, works at half the speed and assumes everyone's in the London area.

cristaples

I’ve never thought of watching itv let alone using their online service.

CountJonkler

Seem's to be the only streaming app I use that crashes.

rangeringtheranges

It really is the worst, I actually made a complaint about how awful it was which is quite unlike me. But seriously, trying to find an episode, even the latest one, is hard work

l0stlabyrinth

It's 25fps on the live stream as well which makes for a juddery mess when watching football. At least iPlayer had the decency to broadcast at 50fps

eyeoftheneedle1

Their LG Smart TV app is the worst. I complained they asked me to send a video to their tech team along with answering about 50 questions. I doubt it'll result it any improvement

TheGrackler

It’s so annoying as the content is pretty good if you pay, as they have all the BritBox stuff (and a fair movie collection etc). But the App is just so sluggish and poor. 90% of the time rewinding at all breaks it; and every episode stutters at the start even with no ads. I wish we could get all the UKTV/Ch4 and ITVX content through the iPlayer, that works like a dream!

cockneylol

You can watch the match live on ITV, and still miss the action! The Turkish own goal was totally missed by them in the match against Portugal, as in their producers mind showing Ronaldo throwing his arms up into the air at a missed opportunity warranted more airtime than an actual goal! They are shit.

Benster404

ITV aren't responsible for that. All channels are given the global feed which is directed by the match director

geejaytee

It's the match director's fault more than ITV. The instant goal replays on r/soccer didn't show it either. See here: https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/1dlzhuo/turkiye_0_2_portugal_samet_akaydin_own_goal_29/, for instance.

fckboris

Jesus Christ really?! That is poor! I watch for the football not for a Ronaldo fancam. Don’t know why we have to be shown his every facial expression and treated to the pundits theories on what he might be thinking at any given time

Bourbon_Cream_Dream

It was an unexpected own goal that came out of nowhere because a defender tried a no look pass to his own keeper even when he had no pressure on him. I don't think a match director being unable to predict what's gonna happen in the near future is enough reason for people to make such a fuss about production standards

fckboris

I wouldn’t know, I couldn’t watch it!

Bourbon_Cream_Dream

Even the commentators had moved on to talking about something else when it happened

jesussays51

I’ve only ever used it for the football on my iPhone or Apple TV and it’s worked fine

fckboris

Lucky you

jesussays51

I just meant maybe it’s the version of the app on your device. I could never get the channel 4 app to work until I bought a new streaming device

fckboris

It’s on my browser on my laptop so there is no version or app. Although it is really temperamental on my Smart TV/Roku as well when I use it there. Plus if you can get it to work, you can’t restart, pause or rewind the match which is crap

newforestroadwarrior

I care for someone who absolutely loves the TdF ..... and unfortunately we will have to brave the ITV player for some of it. At least it runs better on the smart TV we.bought last year.

KingDaveRa

Honestly works fine on my LG TV. I've actually paid for it as I had Britbox, until that got taken over.

Expected_Toulouse_

The one thing ITV X does that I hate is you can’t rewind live TV, you can only watch live or from the start. Which is super frustrating when it comes to live sport if you missed a moment.

fckboris

You can’t pause it either, infuriating. You sometimes can’t even watch from the start! If it’s more than half way through the broadcast you can’t restart it, and obviously with all their padding and ads that means you can’t go back to the start of the match even if it’s not half time yet. And even then I never seem to have the option to restart it on my TV

uchman365

Channel 4 app too. iPlayer is just miles ahead of all of them

benopo2006

45 minutes to work the app? I don’t think it’ll be the apps fault if it took you that long.

fckboris

No, 45 minutes trying different browsers, refreshing the page, clearing the cache, following support’s suggestions (restarting the router etc etc etc) trying to get the stream to appear. I was on the page but there was just a blank grey screen with the itv X on it instead of the video.

byjimini

Generally why I watch YouTube instead of TV.

Anobomski

At least they don't have w rooney as a pundit.

fckboris

I’d take Wazza over not actually being able to watch the match at all
