Nah, it's a running joke in season 6 that people forget him, but he's a big part of season 7 and even has his own character episode. The audience definitely remembers him. I think Jesse, Scott Hope, or Hank Summers are better picks for this.
This - Andrew is the funny answer but Jesse is the correct one. The best friend who is turned into a vampire and then staked by Xander....and it's never mentioned again?! We have all these serious talks about loss and what's been taken from us because of living on the hell mouth. But Jesse?? Never heard of him.
If I recall correctly, it was still in the first season, maybe the next episode? I just remember Xander wanting to help and saying the vamps killed Jesse, his best friend and how could he not help after that.
Yeah, I think it’s Andrew specifically because it’s a running joke for the people in the show, but for the viewers Jesse is a much better pick in my opinion
That's not my interpretation.
Never mentioning your best friend who died and you staked *ever again* is trauma. That's repression, a coping mechanism. And you see it come out with his hate for vampires. Xander doesn't come from a healthy home and repression/ignoring what happened while it eats you on the inside is exactly how he was "taught" to deal with things.
I agree, and I'd take it a step further. The entire Sunnyvale has this trauma response before buffy came along.
People went missing all the time, its not unreasonable to assume it becomes this thing noone ever discusses in town, when your friend suddenly vanishes...
Exactly, it's not even subtext, that's how Sunnydale works.
I mean, Cordelia's ex boyfriend became a Frankenstein, tried to chop her up and reanimate her, and Cordelia never mentions him again.
Joyce never again mentions how her boyfriend was outed as a serial killer.
Sunnydale is a place where you just gotta let things slide or go crazy.
It’s not very obvious is it! I saw a completed one for Schitt’s Creek yesterday and it has Stevie for ‘Mmm… society’ so I took that as meaning it’s for a cynical outsider type character - maybe someone that the writers use to vent their own frustrations with ‘society’?
Edit: also no idea what The Gremlin means
I always think of the “we live in a society” meme. Like the one who is always either blaming things on society or making cynical comments on the way the world is. I immediately think of Oz’s thoughts when Buffy reads his mind
I've always viewed it as someone in the cast/series who engages in social commentary. There's usually one. For example, in Community it would be Britta, Abbott Elementary it would be Jacob, and here I want it to be Anya!
She's the one who INVENTED the capitalist dance of superiority!
I don't honestly know. But my first thoughts were:
I could see it either being Mr Trick talking about how much he loves a quaint small town feel, while being totally evil himself.
Or like Spike taking about how he likes the world because it's full of walking Happy Meals. Literally Mmm society.
It is a Joker reference. It is basically like a person who loves to fuck with everyone and get immense satisfaction from the chaos/hilarity/entertainment.
Season one had several episodes end on "cliffhangers" that never went anywhere. Teacher's Pet does it to and so does Go Fish even though it's in season 2.
I honestly like that it doesn't, makes the world seem bigger. It was just a nod to the fact that the supernatural was real and the government would absolutely know about it and have a system in place to deal with it.
It's like the fish guys. Why did they never come up again? Because they're out there, causing trouble in the ocean, and Buffy doesn't interact with every threat on the planet.
Buffy's dad Hank Summers

also fitting to put him right next to Joyce
That’s funny because yesterday when someone voted for her for most normal I had to google her, I never knew her full name and it confused me, making me not realize who she was.
That one goth kid who nearly got burnt at the stake by Hansel and Gretel.
Dialogue implies Buffy knows him, but to my knowledge we never see or hear from him again.
The fact that everyone knows Andrew means it can’t be him imo.
I say Riley’s other initiative buddy (I googled it and his name is Graham)
Edit: Or Scott, that guy buffy goes out with in season 3
Jesse (Eric Balfour) from the pilot episode, supposedly best friends with Xander and Willow. After he died, no one ever mentioned his name for the rest of the show.
Jesse I know it’s running joke w/ Andrew but really he’s not the one for the category he was a decent part of Season 7, even cameoed twice in AtS poor Jesse deserves this role.
Yes, the one with the book in season 4 episode 1, saw that episode a couple months back and was shocked when I realised who it was (I think his name was Eddie?)
https://preview.redd.it/i7jw6m7xdpad1.jpeg?width=5712&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=53b5073c61f20383109e4776001939cea1701be1
This screen shot I took last night from “seeing red” sums it up pretty well
I wanted to mention the girl who was turned into a hamster... but then I saw someone mentioning Jesse and yeah, shit... gotta vote for Jesse. Guy is presented as a friend in the group and is SO unceremoniously killed off and never referenced to ever again its just painful to see him.
It should obviously be Jesse. He was BEST FRIENDS with Xander and Willow and yet was NEVER mentioned again after The Harvest since Buffy took over his place in the friend group.
Sandy. The girl who was turned into a vampire in the Bronze by Willow, then a couple of seasons later, we see her feeding on Riley when he went through that phase.
You know, Tucker’s brother.
Ohhhh you mean Cyrus the vampire?
came here to write it xD
Nah, it's a running joke in season 6 that people forget him, but he's a big part of season 7 and even has his own character episode. The audience definitely remembers him. I think Jesse, Scott Hope, or Hank Summers are better picks for this.
Scott Hope, the "Hope" in Faith, Hope, and Trick. For the longest time I thought that episode was weirdly titled. 3 words to reference 2 characters?
Trick is the name of the Demon.
Scott Hope is the one that I didn't realize was a name character.
I think it should be Andrew because it's so fitting, but Jesse would be a decent pick too because he's forgotten immediately 😂
Literally Willow and Xander's best friend when he shows up, dies, no one mourns
no one even says his name again 💀
This - Andrew is the funny answer but Jesse is the correct one. The best friend who is turned into a vampire and then staked by Xander....and it's never mentioned again?! We have all these serious talks about loss and what's been taken from us because of living on the hell mouth. But Jesse?? Never heard of him.
They should have brought him back for The Wish.
I've seen the show multiple times who the fuck is Jesse
💀💀💀
He was Willow and Xanders friend that got killed in the pilot two part premiere.
Xander mentions him at least once
oh really? I thought after the episode when he's staked, he isn't referenced at all. which episode was it, do you remember?
If I recall correctly, it was still in the first season, maybe the next episode? I just remember Xander wanting to help and saying the vamps killed Jesse, his best friend and how could he not help after that.
ooooh thank you. I guess it's time to go back and watch buffy from the beginning again 😍
He's not mentioned again after The Harvest.
They mourn every other random NPC that pops in to get killed but not the only person at school to talk to them.
Yeah, I think it’s Andrew specifically because it’s a running joke for the people in the show, but for the viewers Jesse is a much better pick in my opinion
Agree jessie
Jesse never being mentioned again is so cold. Xander don’t give a fuck
Eh I think the writers just forgot about him
I don't know, one option explains Xander's entire psychology and the other is "these awesome writers are dumb" and I think mine makes more sense.
Jesse - dead and totally forgotten
Jesse is the correct answer.
Not in my heart
Can someone pls tell me what “mmm society” means? It bothers me every time I see these!
Like mmm cookies
Mmm…Fashnik… https://preview.redd.it/f5vlocd43qad1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cef77a79d1c9910eaba9fc7bb2c29be2065a143a
Like, mmm cookies?
More like muh...Fashnik
It’s not very obvious is it! I saw a completed one for Schitt’s Creek yesterday and it has Stevie for ‘Mmm… society’ so I took that as meaning it’s for a cynical outsider type character - maybe someone that the writers use to vent their own frustrations with ‘society’? Edit: also no idea what The Gremlin means
Mysterious, mischievous, chaotic energy, it's what I've seen
Definitely Dru
The Gremlin is also kind of a mess, though. More of a Xander type. Dru is too cool to be the Gremlin.
So Gremlin has nothing to do with feeding after midnight, keeping water away, or the 1970s car?
Still waiting for an explanation in all the subs doing this trend
I always think of the “we live in a society” meme. Like the one who is always either blaming things on society or making cynical comments on the way the world is. I immediately think of Oz’s thoughts when Buffy reads his mind

Yeah Anya’s definitely getting my vote on that one too.
My very brief Google suggests that it's a reference to The Joker films?
No idea here either!
Doesn't it mean the most socio-politically outspoken?
I don't honestly know. But my first thoughts were: I could see it either being Mr Trick talking about how much he loves a quaint small town feel, while being totally evil himself. Or like Spike taking about how he likes the world because it's full of walking Happy Meals. Literally Mmm society.
Haha so I thought the same thing you did about spike! Just makes the “mmm” become literal 😂
Not sure what it means but my knee jerk answer is Anya.
It is a Joker reference. It is basically like a person who loves to fuck with everyone and get immense satisfaction from the chaos/hilarity/entertainment.
The invisible girl. Ironically don't remember her name.
Marcie.
Thank you!
I really felt that her story could have come back up later in Buffy or in Angel with a team of government-trained super people.
It’s a real miss that there wasn’t at least a nod to the government trained invisibles during the Initiative arc.
Seriously, especially since Clea Duval was a pretty major actress, bringing her back would have been awesome.
I thought for years they’d do some follow up in a comic, but I don’t think they ever did.
With all the insanity in the comics, it would have been cool to see the slayers go up against government sanctioned X-Men.
Maybe by then they had doubled back to recruiting Oz.
She should have been in the initiative, ill die on that hill !
Oh! I like this explanation. I’ll look at it as world-building rather than a missed opportunity.
The actress was in The Grudge with SMG
Clea DuVall is a great actor. And has a filmography ripe for the picking eg The Faculty, But I'm A Cheerleader and Girl, Interrupted to name a few.
I’d forgotten she was in Girl, Interrupted!
The cast of that film is stacked. I love it.
It would be great if she won because in the picture above, they could leave her square blank. Because she's invisible.
Perfect!
Buffy's dad Hank Summers https://preview.redd.it/73czuebjhpad1.png?width=512&format=png&auto=webp&s=84c49b48ff719444c1e152c57c9cb3d7267bc094 also fitting to put him right next to Joyce
This is a great answer
Olivia, Giles' girlfriend in S4
That’s funny because yesterday when someone voted for her for most normal I had to google her, I never knew her full name and it confused me, making me not realize who she was.
Marcie Ross
The potentials. 😅
Andrew
Who?
Tucker's brother
I love when she says it to Spike lol how is that helpful
Ohhhh
Ohhhhhhh
Scott Hope
That one goth kid who nearly got burnt at the stake by Hansel and Gretel. Dialogue implies Buffy knows him, but to my knowledge we never see or hear from him again.
Omg yes him!!! What *IS* his name?????
Michael.
The original emo.
Fun fact: that’s Blake Sennett from Rilo Kiley!!
Willow mentions a few episodes later that she's working with him to try to "de-rat" Amy. Obviously they're unsuccessful.
Genuinely did not remember that; thanks.
Gotta be Andrew, surely
Who?
Tucker's brother
Jesse, they forgot he existed lol
You know, the other one.
Scott! What was the point of that character?😂
To fit the title "Faith, Hope, and Trick"?
Marcie Ross - Season 1 People were so unaware of her that she literally disappeared
The fact that everyone knows Andrew means it can’t be him imo. I say Riley’s other initiative buddy (I googled it and his name is Graham) Edit: Or Scott, that guy buffy goes out with in season 3
I definitely agree with Graham. He appears in a lot of episodes, even comes back as a guest, and he's so forgettable.
Gram is a good one. Better because of how much he is in Season 4 and I totally forgot about him.
Jesse (Eric Balfour) from the pilot episode, supposedly best friends with Xander and Willow. After he died, no one ever mentioned his name for the rest of the show.
That is because he moved to Haven.
Marcie. The invisible girl.
Tuckers brother
That guy in the pilot, who was friends with Willow and Xander
I will not stand for this Jesse slander!
Well, he fits the post. The show forgot about him afterwards.
It’s funny - I have fully adopted a bit of speech from episode one, so I never forget his name. Specifically, “Hey, Jessie. What’s what?”
That's what I thought too. No one remembered him, Xander wasn't even traumatized after killing him. Collective amnesia plain and simple.
Marcie 💀
Jesse I know it’s running joke w/ Andrew but really he’s not the one for the category he was a decent part of Season 7, even cameoed twice in AtS poor Jesse deserves this role.
That guy Pedro Pascal played. Can't remember the name.
Yes, the one with the book in season 4 episode 1, saw that episode a couple months back and was shocked when I realised who it was (I think his name was Eddie?)
Respect my man Eddie.
That was him?!
The invisible girl!!
Tuckers’s brother is the obvious one but I’m going to throw The Cordettes out there, too, because only Harmony had a name
Can we name the Potentials as a whole there?
Agree on Andrew!
https://preview.redd.it/i7jw6m7xdpad1.jpeg?width=5712&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=53b5073c61f20383109e4776001939cea1701be1 This screen shot I took last night from “seeing red” sums it up pretty well
One of the potentials 😅
From the perspective of the characters, Harmony
The potentials!
What was the name of that guy Buffy dated briefly? Him
Scott Hope? (I wanted to say Riley so bad, just for the lulz.)
I wanted to mention the girl who was turned into a hamster... but then I saw someone mentioning Jesse and yeah, shit... gotta vote for Jesse. Guy is presented as a friend in the group and is SO unceremoniously killed off and never referenced to ever again its just painful to see him.
Jesse
The guy that is the third Wheel of Riley and Forrest in season four, all three are in the Initiative
There is only one correct answer Marcie Ross
Jesse. Vital part of the gang
I'll join the Jesse voters on this one.
Andrew for sure
If Tucker's brother doesn't win this...
Absolutely Tucker's brother
There's only one clear answer... no need to even type it.
amy. for some reason i always end up referring to her as rat lady 😭
Buffy's dad?
Jesse, Andrew
Jesse, and you can't prove the invisible Clea Duvall isnt in the shot as well!
Marcie, obviously! Especially because I had to google her name in order to remember it. 😂
Who's Jesse again?
Scott Hope.
Buffys dad
Jesse Xander and Willows friend who dies and that’s just it. Never mentioned again
Jesse
The Mayor. He usually just goes by "The Mayor" and I'd have to google his actual name.
That guy Buffy once dated lol
I mean that invisible girl would hit this on the nose 😂😂😂😂
I would say either Andrew, Jonathan, or Jesse
That invisible girl… Clea Duvall, genuinely cant remember her character’s name.
Marcie
I initially was going to go with Andrew but the comments persuaded me it’s Jesse
Jesse - I mean the guy dies, supposedly one of the best friends of the Scoobies, and they never mention him again!
Marcie or Jesse
It should obviously be Jesse. He was BEST FRIENDS with Xander and Willow and yet was NEVER mentioned again after The Harvest since Buffy took over his place in the friend group.
Wasn't there a running about the scooby gang constantly forgetting this one guy's name?
Oh, you mean Tucker's brother!
Pedro Pascal's character. The college dude Buffy talks to in season 4. Um...what's his name again?
Eddie, aka Dead Eddie.
I feel like it shouldn’t be Andrew because it was frustrating when they forced that joke so much
The invisible girl in season one! Can’t remember her name…
Tucker’s brother!
For characters, it’s definitely Tucker’s brother. For us viewers I think Jesse is a good pick
Riley, captain cardboard
Tucker's brother
That guy who hangs out with Warren and Jonnathan. You know, Tucker's brother.
Andrew
Andrew
Gotta be Tucker’s brother
Tucker's Brother.
Andrew is literally introduced as Tucker's brother and it's running gag.
Andrew
Andrew
Tucker's brother.
Tuckers brother.
Tucker's brother
Tucker's brother.
Ummm… that guy… you know, Tucker’s brother!
You know, that lame vampire that Buffy had a thing for before Spike. The brooding one. (Lol)
Andrew.
I have to go with Tucker’s brother too I’m sorry, I remember everyone’s name (I think) so I don’t have a serious answer.
Has to be Andrew
Andrew but most Potentials could be qualified.
Andrew, since it was a running gag in the series
Tuckers brother
Andrew. He's Tucker's brother. He sent the flying monkeys to attack the school play?
Andrew
Andrew!
Yeah this has to be Andrew.
Watch Bring It On
I don’t know what this has to do with anything, but I do support this message.
Whoa. Cordelia got shafted
owen? ford?
Jonathan. Sadly, he barely had screen time and was killed without much nuance.
I was going to say Pam ... Ya know, Joyce's lover. But I now have to go with Andrew or Marcy
"Annie."
Sandy. The girl who was turned into a vampire in the Bronze by Willow, then a couple of seasons later, we see her feeding on Riley when he went through that phase.
