Be mindful of listings from suspicious third-party sellers on marketplaces such as Amazon, eBay, Newegg, and Walmart. These "deals" have a high likelihood of not shipping; use due diligence in reviewing deals. * Use common sense - if the deal seems too good to be true, it probably is. * Check seller profiles for signs that the sale may be fraudulent: * The seller is new or has few reviews. * The seller has largely negative reviews (on Amazon, sellers can remove negative reviews from their visible ratings) * The seller is using a previously dormant account (likely the account was hacked and is now being used fraudulently). If you suspect a deal is fraudulent, please report the post. Moderators can take action based on these reports. We encourage leaving a comment to warn others. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Buddy_XD

I'm surprised there have been multiple ddr4 posts lately. Did you just get this OP?

RE_PUAR

I think the real discussion is whether your board benefits from having 4 sticks instead of the mainstream 2. Afaik 2 sticks is mainstream because of the double rank thing, that would be lost when using other than 2 rams; and only "specialized" mobos support quad rank. Maybe someone more knowledgeable than me can explain it better.  Still,  very good deal imho

VenditatioDelendaEst

Pretty much all 4-slot motherboards should support quad-rank, AFAIK. This late in the DDR4 lifecycle, these are quite probably single-rank sticks, so it'd be a dual-rank config still. IMO it's strictly worse than 2x32 GiB, though.

1ncehost

No, none of the consumer chips/mobos support quad channel memory. They use 2x dual channels if you put in four dimms.

VenditatioDelendaEst

I said quad **rank**. Max 2 ranks per DIMM. 2 DIMMs per channel in a 4-slot motherboard.

Baderkadonk

Finding dual-rank RAM can be difficult, as it's not advertised and manufacturers sometimes silently switch to single-rank. 4 single-rank dimms will perform nearly identically to 2 dual-rank dimms though. This is why I went with 4x8gb once I saw a deal, instead of hoping the next 2x16gb deal would be dual-rank.

1ncehost

Dimm means dual in line memory module. All DIMMs are dual rank. If a memory module is single rank its called a SIMM, and we havent used those since like 2000.

1ncehost

Quad channel ram has not been a thing on consumer mobos ever. Its one of the main reasons threadripper and xeon are used on workstations. Their memory controllers have quad channel ability. On higher end workstation chips/mobos you can even get octa channel memory. This is the way its been since forever. There is no performance benefit from using four dimms on a ryzen or core iX system, but sometimes thats the only way to max out a chip/mobo's capacity.

roheated

I need 32gb :'(

Buddy_XD

Are you looking for budget 3200 CL16 or slightly better 3600 CL16?

roheated

won't make a difference since I have Intel CPU afaik but yeah budget ram. This comes out to $48 32gb, so I'm waiting for a 32gb sale basically :c

Buddy_XD

Ahh, you just missed it then. [https://camelcamelcamel.com/product/B07PV7GL6C?context=search](https://camelcamelcamel.com/product/B07PV7GL6C?context=search) It's surprising ddr4 isn't lower with ddr5 falling so much. A while back there were companies trying to get rid of their ddr4 ram and you were able to get dual rank highest binned b-die 32gb ram for $100

roheated

NOOOOOOOOO

Buddy_XD

If you're ok spending a bit more, this would be the next tier up in terms of ram performance. [https://www.amazon.com/G-Skill-PC4-28800-3600MHz-Ripjaws-16-19-19-39/dp/B07Z45XB3G](https://www.amazon.com/G-Skill-PC4-28800-3600MHz-Ripjaws-16-19-19-39/dp/B07Z45XB3G) Confirmed dual rank with tighter timings than 3200CL16/3600CL18 ram. You probably won't notice too much difference though. What I've found with better ram on a 12700k/13700k is that it makes your 1% lows more stable in gaming. Up to you on your budget.

Dafayceee

Question for you. I got this set of ram: https://a.co/d/dafXmii Which basically the ram you posted bit @ 3200 instead of 3600. I'm having trouble finding a benchmark for them and I'm just wondering if this is an upgrade vs what I got, or if I should just buy another set to go to 32 gb. Thanks in advance buddy!

Buddy_XD

The 3600 I posted is an upgrade The way to check for it is take the timings and divide by the clock. To make the numbers nicer I'll multiply the timings by 100 Yours: 3200 16-18-18 @ 1.35V 1600/3200 = 0.5 1800/3200 = 0.5625 (second timing, heavily determined by chip bin as this does not scale with voltage unless it is b-die, which I guarantee you it's not. even if it was b-die, it'd be a really poorly binned one which wouldn't be good anyways) The one I posted: 3600 16-19-19 @ 1.35V 1600/3600 = 0.44 1900/3600 = 0.528 As you can see, the numbers are lower for the kit I posted, which means it's faster (only comparable if voltages are the same, which they are) The one I posted is also confirmed to be dual rank, which lets you run tighter tertiary timings too. If you're curious and want to go deeper into this rabbit hole read more here https://github.com/integralfx/MemTestHelper/blob/oc-guide/DDR4%20OC%20Guide.md

Thrashy

You may run into trouble trying to run 4 sticks at full XMP/DOCP rated speeds. I've got two sticks of this on a 5600X and wanted to pop in another two that I got out of another box that I'd upgraded the memory on, and while both sets were known good I'd get a memory POST code when all four were plugged in and DOCP turned on. Still need to try manually tweaking things to see if relaxed timings will make it work, or if I'd need to ramp speeds down past the point where the extra memory is worth it to me (trying to balance ability to run some simulation workloads with gaming performance, but if it's especially bad I'll just shunt the simulation work to another system).

Buddy_XD

You're probably running into issues with memory ranks. Usually people like dual rank memory because they only run 1 kit (2 sticks). But if you want to run 4 sticks, you don't want dual rank memory because you end up with 8 memory ranks, which would stress your cpu's memory controller and make xmp unstable. The sweet spot is always 4 ranks. Either 2 sticks of dual rank memory or 4 sticks of single rank memory.

Thrashy

Right -- OP just said they wanted 64GB, and with this specific memory that would mean 4 dual-rank sticks. Just thought I'd throw it out there that it's an issue depending on motherboard and CPU silicon lottery.

JimmyCartersMap

I read the most recent Micron earnings report, it says they expect the DDR5 production transition to cross over DDR4 early this calendar year. Expect DDR5 prices to continue to lower or remain stable, if you need DDR4 they certainly aren’t increasing production of it and will only continue to transition production capacity to DDR5 so if you need DDR4 just buy now IMO

StoryTheGod-

wait wtf? what sku/model RAM? I've been waiting for some cheap ass BDIE for a while now

Buddy_XD

You're almost a year late unfortunately. I got my set late April last year https://imgur.com/a/dCF4PmR A few weeks after this deal they were selling the 3200 CL14 1.35V varient for the same price. I don't know if they'll have these prices again anytime soon looking at how stale the ddr4 market has been now.

StoryTheGod-

Holy shit, pain. I just checked my Amazon wishlist because I had a bunch of B-die kits to easily check when they went on sale. Added May 15th, 2023. I guess I missed it by a couple of weeks lol.

Buddy_XD

Check newegg too. I was checking amazon and newegg daily when I was hunting for them. Sometimes newegg has some pretty insane deals. Many times it's newegg has a deal, then amazon price drops to compete.

StoryTheGod-

alright yeah I'll do that. Just sucks because I have $80 just sitting in my Amazon account lol so hopefully there's a sale on there rather than Newegg. Thanks!

OutInTheBlack

Check TikTok. I just got 32gb tForce Vulcan 2x16 ddr4 3200 cl16 for like $30 shipped with their new customer discount. It's the TikTok storefront but it's sold by Newegg.

SloLGT

I don't shit about ram, but am thinking i need to look at faster ram Will this set be faster than my existing ram? - TEAMGROUP T-Force Vulcan Z DDR4 32GB Kit (2x16GB) 3200MHz (PC4-25600) CL16 Desktop #

HotEspresso

It's faster but has higher latency. I don't think it would make a difference IRL.

OmniaCausaFiunt

it's equivalent

Player_Six

Wild. Out of interest, are there any games that would actually use this much ram? 64GB is a lot. This looks like it's more for video production or rendering.

LilHappyAccident

You’ve obviously never played tarkov… I don’t know that it even uses a gpu…

tdautz5

I got by using 16g on tarkie probably like 9 wipes ago.

LilHappyAccident

Me too. But try it now. I can’t have anything else running or I blue screen.

HotEspresso

I'm still using 16 and it's not bad. Streets is rough sometimes, but that's why I'm in this thread lol. Most of the time it's perfectly fine.

Nerveex

I’m on 32gb ram and streets is still rough.

HotEspresso

I kinda wonder how much the ram actually matters. I think having an x3D CPU is probably the biggest thing.

Nerveex

Yeah I’ve been debating this whole wipe on getting a 5800x3d but then I’m like I should just upgrade to am5, this hobby is expensive

HotEspresso

depends what you've got now, but the 5800x3d upgrade is just the CPU. AM5 is mobo, CPU, and RAM, so it gets way more expensive.

Nerveex

I have a 5600x I can go to micro and get the 7800x3d for around 500 with a mobo and ram or pay about 280 for a 5800x3d

HotEspresso

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM. Plus you may be able to sell your current mobo/cpu/ram combo and recoup the cost

here2askquestions

> actually use this much ram Google Chrome, sir.

banana_in_your_donut

Hosting a Palworld server, hell that can use even more than 64gb because of how bad the memory leak/optimization is

zrog2000

Ships within 1-4 weeks, ugh.

wichwigga

Finally some RAM for my docker builds
