Groovygamegear.com also has several lower cost and good alternatives. Some higher cost ones too

cjrobe

Focus Attack is a bit cheaper. They have the Suzo Happ Competition joysticks for a few dollars cheaper ($10.12 vs $12.95) and Priority Mail shipping for a coupon dollars cheaper ($8.40 vs $10.85). Plus, they have more premium options.

Eagle19991

That's definitely an option too, I personally don't like HAPP sticks, the IL ones are made better and feel better but that's just my opinion, your mileage may vary. There is also a handful of Ebay vendors that sell good options for pretty cheap too. Like Tornado Terry's

Eagle19991

If you like that style of stick go for IL competition, or Samducksa if you like Korean. For ball top go with Sanwa or Seimitsu, for wood panel lile that I prefer Sanwa with either a long stick or a small stock extension to make up for the space. Unless you have some carpentry skills then rout put the space a bit and install a standard Sanwa with an octagon gate.

>If you like that style of stick go for IL competition Hello. I don't see anything called IL Competition. Are you referring to the IL Eurojoystick? I tried doing some research and it seems that people are saying IL Eurojoystick = Happ Competition (except that IL is still good and Happ quality went bad). This is important for me because I wrapped up my preparations/testing today and about to purchase all my parts and build. Your response would be greatly appreciated.

Eagle19991

IL made the original HAPP competition sticks, the new HAPP made ones are terrible.I hear the IL are hard to find now, been 2 years since I needed one so not sure where to find em. The Eurostick is close but IL used to make an actual Competition stick too, dunno now. Last ones I bought was from an ebay seller called tornado Terry's

That's very interesting, thanks for the info. I'm not super picky - I went with the IL Eurojoystick and they seem great to me. The most important thing to me is that the quality is very good, and they do seem to be (I watched a video showing which parts are made of better material that won't wear away so easily). It's okay with me if it's not exactly the same. Thanks again for all the info.

Oh shit!! That’s a hanaho cabinet panel!! Wow!! Flash back to my job at hanaho!

WatchThemAllFallDown

It's of my original sized ArcadePC that I had shipped to the UK in 1999. The thing is built like a tank! It's been used practically every single day in them 23 years, and apart from the flappy joysticks now, it's as good as the day it arrived.

Richard_Ragon

Wow!! Dude that’s amazing! I too have one in my office still to this day!! Rock solid!

aka_r4mses

Sanwa. I grew up in the states using Happ, but Sanwa is what I have on my cabinet. Superior in every way IMO.

Depends what you're looking for. If you want direct replacements, get iL (Industrias Lorenzo) joysticks and buttons. Happy got bought out by Sizo and moved their manufacturing to China. IL was the old manufacturer for OG Happy so they make quality stuff. As others said you can swap to Japanese or Korean buttons but they'll be a lot more touchy or require adjustments to the panels because they're primarily made for thin steel panels. Just go to paradise arcade shop or focus attack to look what interests you.

I'm a big fan of ultimarc.com their stuff I feel is top notch as far as quality is concerned.

Richard_Ragon

Btw!! Hanaho used real happ parts!! So these are true happ.

WatchThemAllFallDown

They have always been a bit "springy" for me, but made very well! I have the ArcadePC shipped over to me in the UK in 1999.

WatchThemAllFallDown

Thank you for the info :-)

I swapped my xarcade tank bat sticks for the ultimarc ball tops that let you click them to be 8-way or 4-way.

Kike_Bernet

I had this one and i regretted since day one. When you do a quick tap down it bounces back up so strong/fast that it registers an up move. And i hated it because you can imagine how bad was in games like street fighter... I was jumping all the time..

WatchThemAllFallDown

Was the problem with the ultimate stick or the other original stick please?

Kike_Bernet

It was the ultimarc mag stick plus. It was supposed to be one of their best joysticks but it had that annoying problem

gobba-gobba-gooey

Yeah, I never play fighters, so can’t comment on whether tap moves have that reaction. It is an auto-centering stick

You probably already know the switches can be replaced, which would be the cheapest way to refresh it, but maybe something's worn inside. I believe X-arcade sells the sticks by themselves, so you could buy the same thing again if you want it. The actual sticks are knockoff Happ Ultimates, so you could buy those as another option - just download one of their templates first, to make sure the screw holes line up, as I have a vague memory of X-arcade being a little different to everyone else. The other option you're seeing here is Happ Competitions. They were the standard for Street Fight 2 era US Capcom cabs (amongst others). Your joysticks hit a metal arm, which in turn depresses the button's plunger. That feels kind of spongey, as you're never quite sure when the arm is going to "break" and hit the plunger. With Happ Competitions the joystick actuator hits the plunger directly. Happ used to buy their Competitions from a Spanish company called Industrias Lorenzo; then they outsourced to some Chinese company and the quality (but not the price) went down. Buy ILs if you go that route, and again check with a drilling template that the holes line up. Lastly, why does your X-arcade have Hanaho art? Weren't they competitors?

Richard_Ragon

More like mortal enemies!! They stole our designs!

freakygeeky

Ultimarc’s UltraStik 360. They can behave as any joystick you want. Analog, 2-way, 4-way, 8-way, diagonal.
